We stayed there for a wedding during Valentine's day weekend and loved it! The breakfast was excellent, the staff was super friendly, and the amenities and location were great! It was only a few minutes walk to downtown Summit, and it's also really close to the NJT Summit train stop (though we did not use the train this trip. I would definitely stay here again!

The location was perfect, but that was about it. The inn was dated, one of the employees was a smoker who smoked outside, but the smell lingered when he was in the common area, my room was either arctic cold or sub tropics hot and the radiator sounded like it was about to burst so that kept me up all night with clanging and swishing water noises. If you are solely concerned with the location, this is your place, but I wouldn't expect much more or you'll be disappointed.

I lived in Summit for 40 years and only stayed here after moving away. This is a charming converted multi-story home, very old-school in its bones, but updated for wifi, chargers, etc. Nicely appointed, two quiet blocks from downtown Summit. Real staff on site--not a tie-line to some national headquarters. Staff goes home at 6 but is close by and available by phone if needed. Spacious sitting room and breakfast area with nice spread of breakfast fare. Short walk to the train (NJ transit to NYC and elsewhere). Summit has restaurants ranging from a NYC quality steak house (Roots) to The Summit Diner, a 1920s-era DDD where my children and I spent every Saturday morning eating short-stacks and eggs & corn beef hash. The DeBary is my new go-to place for when I'm visiting. If you really need a gleaming Ritz Carlton, well there's one a couple of miles away (charging $500/night more), but you'll be disappointed.

We spent 5 nights at the Inn, and the first 4 were in a sub-par room, which I booked online, evidently a mistake. It was right off the kitchen, dark, with a very uncomfortable, small bed (said “queen” but more like a “double” and horrible pillows - one as flat as a pancake and the other a bolster as hard as a log!) We couldn’t sleep the first 2 nights due to repetitive loud clanging and banging of plumbing in the walls. When we mentioned it, we were given earplugs! So I guess they knew it was an issue. We should have requested a better room. The last night (we added a night) we spent in another room, as ours was already booked. It was upstairs and was lovely and quiet, with a comfy king-sized bed and soft cozy pillows. So much better! The Inn itself, once a beautiful and gracious private home right in-town, is great, with a daily breakfast in the dining room, and friendly, pleasant staff. But beware, don’t stay in Room #4!

We were in town to visit family. I was there with my mother. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. The room we stayed in had two beds, 2 closets and a large bathroom. It was clean and comfortable. A little outdated. The location was perfect for everything we had planned during our stay.

The DeBary Inn is beautiful as far as properties go but that's all. The home needs extra TLC and a deep clean. My husband and I stayed in room 4. The room had a musty smell, needs new mattress and deep clean. We had an uncomfortable stay but were only there for 2 nights so tried to make the best of it. The floors creak very loudly, whoever was staying in the room above us we heard every step all night long, felt like the ceiling was going to come down on us. We had a hard time falling asleep because of this and the uncomfortable bed. The Inn had breakfast available for guest but definitely not what an Inn breakfast should have. No home made treats, store bought muffins, cold eggo waffles etc.
The only great thing was the location in Summit, NJ. I would not stay there again.

It's a charming inn. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The wrap around porch is a great place to sit and have your morning coffee. The free (cold) breakfast was delicious. My room, #2, was somewhat of a downer. The full sized bed was just OK and a few times I thought it was going to collapse. The TV was maybe 40\", which is small but it had lots of cable channels. No Netflix, YouTube, etc. More pluses than minuses. Oh I noticed an EV charger in the parking area. The Inn deserves a lot of credit for installing an EV charger. I debated staying at the Short Hills Hilton. I am glad that I chose the DeBarry.

Lovely stay with a sense of nostalgia.

I love the look and the feel of early American on the East Coast. For the one night in Summit, New Jersey, I stayed at this old colonial house that was built in the late 1800’s. The house was simply but thoughtfully furnished, and the wraparound porch was especially charming. The nostalgic decorations and all the traces of the past were particularly appealing to me.😍

Property had issues with fire alarm going off which led to evacuation because the alarm was just unbearably loud. We did eventually get settled and hotel is historic and comfortable. Some of the rooms are extremely small but we got an upgrade with the alarm issue.

Great place to stay outside of NYC

Great place to stay. We chose to get out of NYC and were glad we stayed at the Inn. Very comfortable, cozy and safe experience. The only deduction of a star was the smell of marijuana that was coming from the hallways from someone apparently choosing to be rude and smoke in their room, all rooms were to be non-smoking. I don’t suppose you can fault the Innkeeper for that but it was a downside. Still would come and stay again.

The convenience and price made our stay worth it. We had a concert in the city and were easily able to park and walk to the train. This is a bed and breakfast and how ever charming it appears, not much sleep was had. The walls and floorboards are thin so creaking and water running kept me up all night.

We like everything about it from the tear caretaker who watches the grounds. He is extremely friendly and and the lady in the office I forgot their names but they have been awesome and I definitely want to come back the room the food just the area itself. The property while beautiful is in need of some TLC. Room 9 is located on the 2nd floor and there is no lift, so be prepared to carry your luggage up the stairs. The bed itself is small and tired. The sheets and pillow cases were dirty so I had to call to have them changed. The bedding is ill-fitting, and the valance was either the wrong size or the elastic was broken. The bath drain was full of old hair ( yuk) and the spout was held on with caulking rather than being repaired. Additionally the water was warm only, dont expect a hot shower. Breakfast was very basic. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

A Hidden Gem in Summit

I had the best sleep in the most comfortable bed ever. The Inn was so quaint, clean, and cozy. The staff were so pleasant and helpful. I definately would recommend this inn to anyone. It is right in the heart of Summit and a 10 minute walk to downtown. I cannot wait to stay there again.

I enjoyed the quaintness of the hotel. My room was cozy, clean and tidy. While the furnishings were not \"antiques\" they were old enough to add to the bygone era atmosphere of the facility. The breakfast was sufficient and served in a well lighted dining room which overlooked a small garden ; it could also be taken to the porch tables. The neighborhood is lovely and within walking distance to the train to NYC. The staff were very nice and accommodating.

We arrived there at about 7 pm. I had called the day before and spoke with Rachel. I told her that I was having surgery and that I wanted everything on the bed changed because I did not want to get an infection. We spoke and agreed that I had booked the queen size bed through Hotels.com. It was room number 5. When we got there we were assigned to room number 9, which had a double bed. Robert helped us out a lot. He called Rachel and she said that she did not make any changes, but to compensate us with $40 cash. That’s nice, but I didn’t want to sleep on a small bed after having surgery. So Robert suggested that we maybe could move to room number 1 the day after my procedure. In the morning before we headed out, we spoke with Rachel, who didn’t seem to care about the issue.I didn’t want to have to change my room either, but guess what, that’s not what we booked.She was kinda condescending to us really. BAD customer service for sure. My husband forgot to grab my pocket book from the room, so when we got back from the surgery, he went to ask for it. The cleaning crew had found it on room 9 and put the name of the person who was supposed to stay in room 9 that evening. Well guess what. It wasn’t our name, so we knew that Rachel did in fact change the rooms. Why would they have a different name if not?
The place was clean, but needs updating for sure. Robert made our stay very pleasant.
He truly is a gem. Hard working and kind to everyone. Thanks to him I felt at ease about stayin

Great weekend at teh DeBary Inn

The DeBary in is a beautiful old house converted to an inn. There are many common spaces to use that are beautiful. The staff is very helpful. We were in Room 17 which is large with a sitting room with pull out sofa and a nice bathroom. It was great for us with our 7 and 9 year olds. The place is not very modern, but it is very beautiful.
