The Peace Lodge is a tranquil escape. There are not very many rooms, so the grounds are quiet. You get the opportunity to walk through the animal sanctuary on the grounds. The resort dog Rusty was very friendly and a welcome sight. The menus were on the expensive side and some more affordable options would be welcome, but the quality of the food was excellent.

This is a very clean and nice property. The level of service and amenities does not match the price. We have stayed at places in Costa Rica that are nicer and better attention to detail but for much less money. You would think that breakfast should be included at the very minimum. Bring your own water to drink they charge $4.50 for a 20 ounce bottle. We would recommend the La Paz Waterfall Gardens as a day trip but find other lodging nearby if you are price conscious. Also, there are lots of steps no matter what part of the property you are going to. If you are not able to do up and down stairways very well then do not stay here. Good experience overall. Too pricey.

This place is just beautiful. It’s like everything Costa Rica has to offer in one place. The staff and hotel manager are top notch. Highly recommend you bring your hiking shoes and enjoy the entire property. You will not be disappointed. This is a must see hotel.

We stayed here for only two nights for my birthday, as we wanted to splurge a bit. This is a gorgeous, very well manicured 5-star resort.
Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a higher level room for my birthday, so that front desk staff knew how to make an impression. The room was crazy amazing fabulous. Look at their website pics as they are very accurate.
Expedia includes two tours when booking, so we got a fabulous night frog tour, and a half-day personalized tour of their wildlife sanctuary - Guide MICHAEL WAS AWESOME. We also participated in the butterfly release, which we will remember forever!
The downside was the dinner restaurant (only one). The menu was super Americanized, and they were out of the one local fish! The first night took forever to get served, and they brought our appetizer, salad, and main dish all at once. The second night was my birthday, and although the server offered me a free dessert for my birthday, when they brought it, there was no candle, no offer to sing, no extra decoration on the plate, and no wishing me a happy birthday. I'm a little surprised by this as it was contrary to the front desk staff. Hey, Lee Banks, please train your restaurant staff to make a bigger deal of of birthdays. Also, put some more Costa Rican items on the menu!

If you don't mind the price, don't miss this beautiful property, and ask for Michael as your guide!

Expedia includes two tours when booking, so we got a fabulous night frog tour, and a half-day personalized tour of their wildlife sanctuary - Guide MICHAEL WAS AWESOME. We also participated in the butterfly release, which we will remember forever!
The downside was the dinner restaurant (only one). The menu was super Americanized, and they were out of the one local fish! The first night took forever to get served, and they brought our appetizer, salad, and main dish all at once. The second night was my birthday, and although the server offered me a free dessert for my birthday, when they brought it, there was no candle, no offer to sing, no extra decoration on the plate, and no wishing me a happy birthday. I'm a little surprised by this as it was contrary to the front desk staff. Hey, Lee Banks, please train your restaurant staff to make a bigger deal of of birthdays. Also, put some more Costa Rican items on the menu!
The food was VERY good for both breakfast (not included) and dinner, and beautifully plated.
If you don't mind the price, don't miss this beautiful property, and ask for Michael as your guide!

I’m not sure it would work for everyone. We got in late after the restaurant was closed, so they had sandwiches and fruit prepared in our room without us even asking. The service was so personal it felt like we were part of their family. We were greeted by friendly staff who immediately took our bags while we checked in. We received private tours to the volcano and waterfalls which are amazing. We got to see and feed some amazing animals. The guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The views from the room are breathtaking. The lodge is pricey but worth every bit of it. The food the atmosphere all the activities that they offer make this lodge a one of a kind. We spent two weeks and traveled from the Caribbean to the pacific and this was our most favorite place. Would definitely come back

This was our second time at the Peace Lodge and we loved it just as much as the first time. The lodge is beautiful and the rooms are incredible. Hot tub on the balcony? Yes please! Each and every staff member went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Special thanks to Pablo, Michael, Daniel and Jose who went above and beyond to make us happy. We could not have had a better experience. The area is breathtaking and the weather, while unpredictable, was a nice break from the heat of Florida. We brought our two kids (10 and 13) and they enjoyed the animal sanctuary many times. We visited the animals every day, hiked to the waterfalls, and even arranged to visit the Poas volcano with a private tour guide. The food was amazing and beautifully plated each time. If you can, catch a trout in the pond and they will cook it for you right there and then! Please take advantage of the animal tours, the restaurants and even the gift shop. We can't wait to come back and see our \"friends.\"

This property was amazing! We were met at reception with a tropical welcome drink. The views were incredible from their deck. The staff was incredibly accommodating. Our room's bathroom was as large as the actual sleeping area. It included a huge shower PLUS a normal sized shower, a two-person jetted tub/jacuzzi, and our own personal indoor waterfall. Unlike some places in CR, you are able to flush toilet paper here. Our balcony had another two-person hot tub, a table, and a hammock in addition to our own well-visited hummingbird feeder. The views from the balcony were breathtaking. Our two children stayed with us, and the staff set up two separate roll-away beds that felt like part of the room. Our room also had a personal fireplace. The animal sanctuary on site was one of the best experiences we had for the duration of our CR vacation. That was partly thanks to the exceptional service of John, one of the staff members. He is the one who picked us up from the airport and drove us to the property (additional fee) and gave us private tours on the property. We signed up for both the nighttime frog tour (so cool! and John showed us all the frogs up close, including teaching us how to croak at one of the toads so it would respond) and the early-morning animal feeding. John guided us in feeding the toucans, the sloth, and the hummingbirds. At every step, he offered to take pictures and suggested the best ways to pose for memorable shots. Book at least two nights. 10/10

The Peace Lodge is an incredible property. The rooms are like nothing you’ve ever seen - the design and thought put into the construction is beyond compare. It’s like something designed by Gaudi. Overall, the property is very well maintained except for the Falls Trail. All the other trails are well marked and provide excellent views of the forest and waterfalls. The staff are exceptional and assure that that all your needs are met. We were traveling with our 90-year old mother & they provided a golf club to transport her up & down the hill when we needed it. Food was excellent and the servers were very attentive . We loved our room and really enjoyed the views, the hot hot tub on the deck as well as the in room amenities. A very beautiful property! We woke each morning to the beautiful sounds of the birds and all the various animals waking to the morning. All of the staff were so personable and shared more than the beautiful things at the resort but about the area close to the Peace Lodge. If you are looking for a romantic spot it is wonderful but you may want to ask for a room to be away from the pool as the children get very excited when visiting that area. Mixed feelings about our stay
On the one hand, the property location is a paradise. Access is super easy to the well maintained, constructed, designed trails for any person able to walk and wanting to peacefully and safely enjoy the beauties of the La Paz waterfalls and the rainforest. I would recommend doing all the trails, all are delightful.
The property also features nice general areas that are great to enjoy such as the trout pools, the jacuzzi and pools by the restaurants.
On the other hand, the property is presented as an ultra-luxury one, which I would argue against. For example, we had a bit of a sewer odor in the bathroom, cheap coffee maker, plastic plants in the bathroom, cheap hair dryer and ultra-marked-up items in the minibar, including regular brands water being sold for $4.50. No water was provided as part of the service. There is such an excessive nickel & diming that made me feel so skeptical that I didn't buy anything else from the hotel. Furthermore, the room feels pretty outdated. Yes, we had a terrific view from a large balcony, a cozy fireplace, a comfortable jacuzzi, nice hammock, and very comfortable bed and sheets, but the details in the room don't really make one feel in an ultra-luxury hotel.
I didn't feel taken care of, and that is the essence of a hotel on this price range.
I would stay here again if I find a very good deal, knowing that I would still eat in the area restaurants, so with a car rental.

It was so peaceful. We got the upgrade with tub in room and balcony. I told them it was our anniversary and they gave us complementary chocolate strawberries, and wine. It was so sweet. The staff was friendly and nice. We really enjoyed our stay. It’s little steps to get to room and stuff but nice lol. You can’t beat the view. It’s about a 50 min drive to city but a nice scene of driving there. I would definitely stay there again. Loved it.

I absolutely love this place! This is my second time staying here. This time I brought my family. And although the room was not as grand as the room I had the first time two years ago, my family was still very wowed by it. The bed is the most comfortable bed I think I have ever been in. The pest control is amazing to not have any bugs in our room in spite of being out in the middle of nature. The walking trail to the waterfalls is amazing. The waterfalls are breathtaking. The property is awesome with so much to see and do. I highly recommend this property and plan to come back again with my other nephew within the year.

Feeding the animals, this is a must to get a close look at Sloth, hummingbirds, and Tucans. The outside hot tubs were very unique and in Very Beautiful spots! The only part that I didnt care the most for personally, was the dinner. Going to different countries, I love to have the local cuisines, the dinner was an expensive meal, it was good, but i just like local foods. I would still give what they had a 5 star rating, the waiters were attentive, and the food was out in a Very timely manner!

First off, the property is beautiful. Absolutely stunning. The service is great and all the staff are very kind and helpful. The animal park on site and the walking trails to the waterfalls are well-kept and enjoyable. I only have two complaints. First off, the bed was extremely uncomfortable. It was rockhard which was disappointing for the rest of the quality of the room which was amazing. I’ve stayed in lots of hotels, and it was probably in the top five worst beds I have ever slept in. My other complaint is how over-the-top the resort is with some things. They’re trying really hard to be a Disneyland type experience for their guest. And that probably works for most people, but for us it was a bit too whitewashed and left a lot of the local culture to be desired. The food was overpriced and not very good, so we mostly drove into the local village to eat and had good experiences there. If you want somewhere safe and “polished” then this is definitely the place for you. But if you want to experience any actual Costa Rican culture, I would encourage you to venture outside of the resort

My only gripe was that the restaurant food was nothing special for expensive it was, I think for the price dinner and breakfast should have been less bland. However, you do always have the option to leave the resort to eat elsewhere!

Great hotel with extraordinarily spacious and unique rooms but there were a couple issues you would not expect in this price range. The staff and service was excellent! The parking lot was not very secure. It was along a highway with a circle drive that allowed for cars and trucks to enter at high speeds. Our rental was damaged while unoccupied and parked in the lot which resulted in an unexpected expensive problem. Also, there was no A/C in the room which was a surprise. There was a dehumidifier which helped, but you would expect A/C in this price point.

We really enjoyed our stay. At first we felt a little wave of disappointment when we walked into our room, as you could see right away that the bed mattress was dented into the shapes from many past sleepers, and the rugs looked old and ready for replacement or professional cleaning. But the bathroom was amazing and the staff was very kind and attentive. We did feel for the price, which did not include breakfast or any meals (and they were a bit pricey), that shuttle to/from the airport should have been provided as part of the price, or at least not as expensive as it was. All in all we are very happy that we visited.

The upper rooms are fantastic. You almost don't want to leave. The grounds are beautiful with many plants and birds. Areas with birds, frogs, butterflies, snakes and cats let you see species that would be hard to find in the wild. Food great. Wonderful staff. Only drawback was some noise from the road.
