The hotel was great, very clean. The staff super attentive and friendly from from the lady who cleaned our room Olga to everyone at the reception and the dinning/breakfast personal. The shows where entertaining and very professional. The entertainment staff brilliant both with the young ones and not so young.

Stayed here for the second time and loved every minute of it. This time I picked the half board that included both breakfast and dinner buffets and would highly recommend this option. The buffet food changed every day and was better than most restaurants outside. Staff treated us amazing.

60 th birthday celebration

I was with a party of 25 people. We did enjoy our stay . The staff The property the area everything was great. But it would have been nicer if we had more entertainment at night in the hotel. Overall it was a pleasure to stay in the Sol Barbacán.

The bungalows were spacious inside and well equipped. The pools, other amenities and activities offered were beyond what I expected. I did not get to have dinner here but the breakfast buffet was extraordinary and offered many options.

The only thing I did not like about this hotel is having to take stairs down to cross the lobby and then back up to the bungalows and all the ground level areas. I find this a design flaw and difficult to walk in and out of the hotel, specially for senior guests. The only ground-level option was to go through the restaurant and the in-out walkthrough seemed unpleasant.

Solid choice

Good solid choice 5 mins walk from the Yumbo centre, with friendly helpful staff, clean & modern rooms, a very nice pool (heated) and lovely views. If you’re not averse to strong sun, I’d suggest asking for a high floor (quieter) on the south or west facing side of the building, as the other side gets little direct sunlight.

Only downsides are the 20 min walk to the dunes and a crazy bathroom design which makes it almost impossible not to flood the floor after every shower.

Lovely place for family break

we had a lovely holiday at Sol Barbacan. Food was great, rooms are clean and have all facilities. The staff are very personable, friendly and efficient. My daughter was impressed by the chef Juanma (apologies for the misspelling) and Ada from the animation team. Everyone was super cool and we had amazing time.
The hotel isnt located directly on the beach but a few minutes walk. There are lots of shops and small cafes around. Return private transfer to the airport was about £40.

We had half-board and drinks are not included in the evening board but the prices are really reasonable, in all F&B outlets

Good clean, confortable bungalow with private sun bathing roof and terrace. Good 25 metre swimming pool and additional 2 pools, one adult only. Gymnasium a bit basic but better than none. Food in restaurant of good standard. Close to jumbo centre and bars but 20 minute walk to beach. Good relaxing stay.

Beautiful hotel!

Sol Barbacan is lovely! The food is amazing with lots of choice and it’s within close walking distance to the Yumbo shopping centre, where you can find shops and lots of bars! The drag shows at funny boys are a must!! The receptionist was very helpful giving us information for excursions and booking us taxis. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with 5 ladies, this was perfect for a group of friends wanting to explore the island. A little dated inside the apartment but very well equipped with a huge balcony terrace! The hotel room was cleaned daily and the general grounds of the hotel were always spotless!

Immaculate accommodation.

Stunning apartments, close enough to the beach. Staff were mostly approachable and we had no real issues at all during our stay - which is strange as I like to moan. The apartment was spotless (with the option of daily room service if you wanted it). The pools were lovely and also very clean. Prices at the bar/s were quite steep. Local buses only run to the zoo etc until mid-day (which we wish someone would have told us!) however, taxis aren't very expensive and once you get a few miles out, the rocky mountain views are really something. Don't settled for the first shops you see if you're looking to stock up your kitchen. There are a few streets and a mall of shops for locals about a mile away (head towards the lidl and it's up a side-street before that), these didn't come up as suggestions on google, so be aware she lies! The local shops toward the lidl have more options for clothes and hats, socks, household things and food like fresh steak or veg. Gutted we didn't investigate this area until we were leaving! The Yumba center etc are OK for a wander but the stuff is over-priced and they see you coming if you look pale and a bit disorientated (Scottish). The whole area is very LGBT friendly, so we highly recommend this hotel and the general area for LGBT couples and families, looking for a friendly place without comments or stares. There's a classic amusement arcade about a mile or so away (a nice walk) rides, lots of pool tables, a pub cafes etc.

Spacious apartment with great view

We had the top floor 2 beds apartment with great view just like the picture shown.
Staff are friendly and very helpful. Only one thing we were not happy was the mattress. Too hard not comfy. We told the staff and they added an extra layer on top immediately. Overall, good and would like to go back again.

Lovely family bungalows

We have just come back from our stay at Sol Barbican and I can’t really say too much against it! We stayed in one of the family bungalows which were very clean and spacious. My only negative about the bungalows was that the kitchen was very basic and lacked serving bowls when cooking for a family of four and the sofas were not very comfy either however apart from that, the maids cleaned every day (if you wish); towels were provided for the pool which is another bonus and generally a great hotel which I would definitely stay at again. The location to the beach was good; a 20 min walk where lots of other restaurants were too. The weather was great too! A great holiday!

Enjoyable winter break.

As a family with two kids on a winter break, the heated pools at this hotel made the stay very enjoyable. Staff was helpful and courteous. Breakfast was good but dinner wasn’t to our taste, so we regretted signing up to dinner for the stay.
The apartment was comfortable and not noisy at all, considering that it is next to a busy intersection. Cleaned daily and in pretty good but not perfect condition.
Evening entertainment was mostly song performances and mini disco for kids. Enjoyable, but we have seen much better in other Gran Canaria hotels.
Their animation team was friendly and kids loved them(specially In Billy overalls).
It is a short drive to the beach or sand dunes and plenty on restaurants/ cafes in the area.
Overall, it was a happy holiday for us!

Shabby hotel

This hotel has seen better days. Our room was in desperate need of a facelift. We faced the street side with constant noisy traffic and music from the hotel bar blaring into the night. Our balcony got no sun during the day and we were not able to upgrade to a quieter or sunnier room. Check it other options in the city if want an enjoyable stay.

Beach is a 15/20 min walk away down a hill but good for a little bit of exercise on the way back!

Nice hotel close to the Yumbo Centre

Easy check in process despite arriving early. Hotel grounds very well maintained. Nice, quiet pool near the bungalows. Friendly staff.

A couple of criticisms relating to noise. We stayed in room 478, this sits directly above the resturant which has various entertainment acts on, the acts were very loud at times we were trying to nap. Also, the good morning song at around 10:30 each day was irritating given our late nights.

However, there are areas of the hotel/bungalows where this noise can be avoided

A welcoming, clean hotel close to all amenities

The staff at the hotel were very friendly and efficient the room was a good size and clean. The bed was uncomfortable and took a bit of getting used to, very hard.
The restaurant food was a good standard and the staff very obliging. The pool area was clean and well looked after, there did seem to be some random times when a DJ come on and the music was ramped up for 2 or 3 minutes then back to normal. Not sure what that signified.
There were plenty of bars and restaurants near by spoilt for choice really. Whilst the hotel was on a main road the noise level was fine. All in all a goiod stay and we would recommend

Well equipped appartments in great location!

Located just one street ( 200 yards ) from The Yumbo centre which offers shopping , restaurants and nightlife an a grand scale. Although all the bars and clubs within the centre are Gay owned and ran they cater for families and you see a very mixed crowd.
Sol Barbacan has a big family following and the staff ( animation team ) are bursting with enthusiasm to entertain adults and children alike. but equally leave you alone if you are just there to chill out.
We utilised the kitchen in the appartment with toaster, hotplate , kettle and fridge being very welcome.
Large appartments with seperate bedroom, bathroom and very large lounge space. Also extra large balcony / terrace makes for nice evenings sat out. although we were a couple in a room with friends in the next room each appartment catered for 4 people with 4 chairs on terrace 4 of all utensils which was as nice touch.
Staff at reception especially Guillermo was very helpful and went out of his way to arrange excursions for us etc.
Wonderful stay. The Bungalows on site looked amazing in the lawned grounds and if we returned would try and book a bungalow.
Only negative is that the main pool was very busy with sunbeds in many rows and frantic with children and noise. Given the size of the plot and volume of guests it could do with more areas to sit in the sun by a pool in quieter surroundings. A second small pool does exist which if it was enforced as adult only this may assist.

Hotel was spacious and adequate but showing signs of aging in areas. Wasn't cleaned properly when we arrived at midnight but by no means unacceptable. Large balcony, living room and kitchen a plus, especially for a family holiday. Hotel staff were excellent and helpful throughout. Wifi non-existent outside of the lobby. The hotel was 20mins walk from the beach, and the location accessible to main roads to other towns. Parking is provided for free but a constant lack of space meant we had to park outside. The public street parking was free upto 10am, with €1 for every two hours parking or so. This would be annoying if you had to wake up to shift the car into the hotel parking lot in the morning when spaces free up. Overall, no complaints, but not memorable by any stretch of the imagination, albeit the island itself being nothing short of a must visit.

This hotel was lovely,nice location, very clean, good air con, lots of facilities and most of the staff were very accomadating. Only down sides were: double bed is two singles pushed together (they did inform me of this before the stay) but it would be super if they had some rooms with double beds, and secondly one barman was rude, didn't listen when taking orders and spoke down to the other barstaff (who were much better than him at their job!) with all that said I would return but would avoid the bar when said barman was working

OK Place - nowhere is perfect

Directions to the hotel from the airport on hotels.com and the hotel websites are inadequate. Only negative points were that we ought to have been given the choice of a room with early sun or not. There was no sun on our balcony until nearly 3 pm bearing in mind our stay was in late March. Also the lighting in the bathroom could have been brighter.The animation staff were inane low level intelligence treating everyone as if they were at their level - ugh! Apart from that its a good place with entertainment each night and reasonable food. Bar prices were pleasently cheap too.

Great apartment in great location

We got a two bedroom apartment (only asked for one bed) which was on second floor and had everything we needed. Lovely big balcony with table/chairs &sunloungers which was a bonus as well as the beach towels. We were on room only basis as like to go out and eat but had a snack lunch and tried the buffet one night. Both were good but glad we were not half board. The only downside in the room was the sofa was not the most comfortable.

Our room was just near the lounge bar which often had live entertainment which sometimes went on until 11.30pm which was only annoying on our last night when had to be up at 3am for our flight, plus no hot water at that time of morning either!

We went down to maspalomas faro lighthouse area a couple of times as lovely promenade along the sea/beach front. Faro has a range of nice restaurants to try out. Was never more than 5 euros in taxi from hotel to faro lighthouse.

Playa del Ingles beach 20 min walk, lovely beach and start of the maspolomas dunes which are great to see.

Great Irish bar just down the road with live music.

All in all great holiday, location perfect.

fantastic room facilities

We had a fantastic time at the sol barbacan hotel and only wish we had booked for longer! The apartment was great and cleaned to a high standard daily. The hotel staff were all extremely helpful with any questions we had and always happy to help. We have already recommended the hotel and will continue to do so. The only minor critisism we do have is that the communal areas are in need of a lick of paint! Overall we are more than impressed with the hotel and the local area and will definitely be returning! Excellent hotel , fantastic stay!

Without a doubt this is grand Hotel throughout - facilities, staff, location and lastly but foremost the room - which is more than spacious - with seperate living room and bedroom, big balcony and decent bathroom with bath tub and large mirror. Breakfast was always fresh and selection was vast with very efficient staff. The only gripe I have is internet that simply did not work and pool staff that takes no action what so ever when families and groups were reserving sun beds early in the morning by placing towel on it which is clearly against hotels policy.

Spacious apartment & great location

Enjoyed a week's stay here with my sister and niece. Chose hotel due to convenient location and the availability of apartments & bungalows - all of which have bedrooms, living room area, kitchenette & good shower! Most other hotels will just be standard one room unless paying more for a suite - having a living room was fantastic! Staff also really friendly & helpful. Would highly recommend staying here - had an amazing time!
Tip - I chose to stay here partly as more convenient location for day trips e.g. we went on a camel ride, jeep safari, trip to Palmitos national park, dolphin search boat trip (amazing!) etc. If you don't mind not having a central location then consider also staying in Melonaras (Maspalomas) instead of Playa Del Ingles as is really beautiful there (5min cab ride) to Playa Del Ingles. But I really enjoyed staying in Playa Del Ingles & would stay here again:)

Relax! Relax! Relax!

This hotel was extremely comfortable, while the rooms maybe considered dated, they provided everything you needed to enjoy your stay and were clean. The food was nice and had a good range. The facilities where great and you did not feel swamped by people. It is good for those with families, but also for couples, you could get involved as much or as little as you wanted to. Easy walk around Playa del Inglés and the beach and a quick drive down to Maspalomas. On our return we stayed in a 5 star resort, and we would have preferred to have returned to the Sol, it had a much nicer atmosphere. The only issues we really had was two twin beds and slow internet (although this seemed to be standard at all of the places we stayed in the Canary Islands).

The ala carte restaurant at the hotel is a must and should not be overlooked. Other good local restaurants of note are, The Greek Villiage, La Toja and La Taberna El Picoteo at Bellavista (best Tapas on the island)

Great for a getaway with friends

Stayed in the Sol Barbican in May 2013 over the Gay Pride Week and I have to say this is one of the best hotel/apartments i have stayed in in Playa Del Ingles. The room was cleaned daily, it was spacious and brilliantly located for what we required. My only slight bug-bare was that additional room extras were all chargeable i.e. iron, ironing board, wifi internet (which wasnt the best!), safe etc etc - basics which could have been rolled up into the price. Apart from that we throughly enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend it to other groups or families.

I had a two bedroom bungalow in the garden with its own rooftop sunbathing area, kitchen and patio. A bit dated but all clean tidy and functional. Wifi worked well throughout hotel for 6 euros a day, free parking. The buffet was a bit ordinary.

a good place to begin exploring Gran Canaria

I was very happy with my stay at the Sol Barbacan and the staff were exellent. I was fortunate to have a room facing the pool area,right in the centre,so we had the sun almost all day.The activities group do a very good job for the children and I believe the hotel caters to familes very well. however the new bar isvery good for adults although they only put enertainment on twice a week i think they should put on a show every night and i am sure the adult bar would soon fill up. the yumbo centre is very good if you want to eat out and the steaks at windsors are second to none,and you can.t beat the maharaja palace for a curry. we visited the play del ingles which is only a short walk awayand we found a stall offering camel excursions where we had a lovely day out with a meal and sangria thrown in and although the hotel also offer this,we found it about sixty euros cheaper and every bit as good.I would recomend the sol Barbacan to anyone who wants to explore Gran Canaria for the first time,especialy couples with children and the slightly older person I am In my sixties.

Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. The only problem was the location. A good 20-25 mins brisk walk from the beach. Was a bit of an inconvenience. Also road noise until the early hours. The resort doesn't have much of a focus either. Otherwise, hotel was excellent with attentive staff.

Pure relaxation

Myself and my boyfriend spent a week at the Sol Barbacan apartments and we were bowled over by the lobby - it was marble and absolutely gorgeous.Our aparmtent was extremely spacious with a balcony that had both a table and chairs and two sun loungers so we could watch the sun go down in the evenings.Staff by the pool were very interactive with activites each morning and afternoon for both children and adults. We didn't partake in any as we preferred to lounge by the pool.There was never any need to rush for sunbeds as they were plentiful.Overall we had an amazing stay here and would most certainly return.

Good Quiet Hotel in center of Playa Ingles!

Good quiet hotel within 5 minute walk to center of Yumbo or 45 min. walk to the beach thru the sand dunes. We reccomend you expeirence the walk thru the sand dunes but better off taking the bus to \"Faro\" and walking on the beach...... much pleasant! The hotel is very family oriented..... if you dont have kids ..... request the 4th or 5th floor apartments to avoid the kiddy sounds from the pool and the wake up call by \"Bill\" the squirel daily at 10am. The aprtments are great...... nicely furnished with simple furniture and complete kitchen. The exchange rate for dollars at the hotel is absurd...... suggest exchanging at a bank and by all means bring Euros with you from a cambio in Madrid Airport as there are no cambios or banks at the airport in Grand Canaria as the US Dollar is an obsene word to most merchants. Most buses service the area of the hotel and you can go by bus to most areas in Gran Canaria. We didnt eat the hotel at anytime....... the pizza looked good though. large, spacious rooms

huge apartment rooms with spacious balconies. downside is hotel doesn't face the ocean. front desk wasn't too knowledgable when we asked questions but we were able to figure everything out. Amenities were great!

Nice clean place

Booked a one bedroom bungalow for a week. Actually ended up with a 2 bedroom. This place was very spacious and very clean.
Location was great for restaurants and shopping. A little way to walk to the beach but there was always the taxi option. They are very cheap. Less than 3 euro anywhere in town. I was very pleased with my stay here and certainly would return. Also I work for an airline and stay in hotels 3 nights a week. Would certainly have no problem recommending this place.

Great Hotel/Great Location

The hotel was about 20mins drive from the Las Palmas airport, taxis readily available. We had a very nice room on the 4th floor overlooking the pool which was perfect for afternoon sun tanning. Although only 2 blocks from Yumbo it was close enough for the action and far enough away from the noise. Numerous grocery stores and restaurants within walking distance. You are located about 20 minutes walk straight up from the start of the Dunes and then another 15mins thru the Dunes to the beach. Only twin bed accommodation but they are together for those wanting a queen/king configuration. A nice bathroom with seperate water closet which is always a bonus. WiFi was available for an affordable weekly rate, as was the hotel room safe. A nice flat screen TV however only BBC and CNN in English, no big problem as we were not there to watch TV. Would not hesitate to stay here again!

Beatiful complex...quiet but near everything

This was actually my second time in the Sol Barbacan..was fortunuate to be upgraded to a lovely bungalow in the grounds. I could not fault the service ..or quality of the accommodation. The buffet breakfast is fantastic with a truly amazing choice. The complex is quiet yet close to all the attractions of Playa del Ingles.
Keep up the good work Sol Barbacan!

Quiet - Non-Party Hotel

Sol Barbacan Apartamentos is a super family oriented hotel. You won't find the party goers here! The room had a super kitchenette, living room, bedroom, small bathroom with a shower and a large terrace with lounge chairs and a table. Everything was clean. We loved staying here.

The hotel staff is top. We had a small clog in the shower - reported it to the front desk and within a hour or so the maintenance guy was there to fix it (along with a security guy). Need to know something? - ask the front desk and he will help you. The clerk at the in-hotel store was super nice as well.

The food - excellent. The buffet area was well organized, clean and full. The waiters were quick, responsive and super polite.

Negatives - the whirl pool is not warm enough. A few idiots still reserve lounge chairs by the pool - even though it is forbidden!

Huone ei ollut neljän tähden tasoinen. Tilaa oli reilusti ja huone oli puhdas mutta yleisilme oli kulahtanut ja nuhjuinen. Vuodesohvalle ei onneksi ollut käyttöä mutta se oli niin huono istua, että en kyllä kerron laittaisi siihen nukkumaan.
Henkilökunta ja erityisesti siivoojat olivat todella ystävällisiä. Palvelut oli suunnattu perheille, mutta en niitä kaivannutkaan. Enemmän olisin kaivannut rauhaa ja yksityisyyttä mitä ei ollut. Seinän takana oli ravintolan keittiö ja kaikki äänet kuuluivat läpi.

Det var noe rotete frokost, mye folk og litt for lite område for frokost. Mye påtrengende folk og dårlig køkultur. Forlot frokosten 2 ganger uten å spise, det endte med at vi handlet på supermarked og tok frokosten på rommet i stedet.

Zimmer in Ordnung. Unser Zimmer war in der Nähe vom Hotel-Restaurant. Jeden Tag gab es Musik, Band, Schreien (sing too loud), alles möglich, (nur einmal die Sänger war gut) bis 1Uhr schlimmsten Fall.. Die Leute sind nett. Bett making und Zimmer Putzen jeden Tag.
Bei Frühstück ab und zu sehr schlechte Qualität Obst und Gemüse. Parkplatz vorhanden aber sehr eng, einmal jemand hat unseres Auto gekratzt... Einkaufen, Restaurants are in der Nähe.. Schwimmbäder sind gut. Aqua gym auch gut.

Be aware of the noise level at night

The apartment itself is nicely furnished and has a decent layout. But it all comes down to the location you get within the complex. My front door was just above the Restaurant El Portalon which made my apartment super noisy. Even being on the third floor didn't help as they have live music every night. During the live music show you can't really use the apartment - it's just way too LOUD! Having a chat with your friends is already a challenge, making a phone call or watching TV is literally impossible. The music they play after the live show is also pretty loud and at some nights they didn't turn it down before 2 am.
I wouldn't book at this hotel again unless I'm sure I'll be out having dinner & drinks every night of my stay. Although the apartment itself is really nice, the chances of getting a room on the wrong side of the building are just too much of a risk.

Absolutt å anbefale. Har bodd på hotellet i to perioder. Fantastisk trivelig betjening over alt. Store leiligheter med stue, kjøkken, bad/wc og stort soverom. Aircondition felles for soverom og stue. Utgang til veranda fra begge. Verandaen har bord og 4 stoler, to solsenger og tørkestativ.

Alles was uitstekend geregeld. Net appartement schoon en alles wat je nodig hebt is aanwezig! Nederlands sprekend personeel. 1 nacht in de luxe appartement gezetten terwijl we gewoon appartement besproken hadden! (Goede nette oplossing ivm dat we die nacht niet in een gewoon appartement konden.) Dag later verhuist en een bon voor eten gekregen ivm de overlast! Gewoon appartement is ook uitstekend ten opzichte van de luxe! Top verblijf!!

Veldig bra leilighetshotell med kort vei til restauranter og lignende. Dessverre ligger ca halvparten av leilighetene på skyggesiden, solen kommer på balkongen der ca kl 1400. Vi fikk flyttet til solsiden, og var veldig fornøyd med den leiligheten. Vi var på hotellet i 3 uker.
