Hotel is obsessed with charging for everything and in many cases things that ought to be complimentary. Dish washing liquid and cloth €4.5; one coffee pod €1.90; bottle of water €4, etc. The fridge was full of more drink than the usual mini fridge.

First time in GC and first time in a gay hotel and I think Axel was a great choice. Staff have been very friendly and helpful, good amount of amenities and clean areas. What was really impressive was how spacious the rooms are, you have a separate living room area and large bathrooms. I think the most important piece of advice I can give to someone is that the sun is facing the opposite way in late afternoon so you can’t sunbathe at the pool after a certain time. There are lounges in other areas but it’s not the same sadly.

No, the room was great and the maid staff was excellent.

I am mad because the 1 day I ate breakfast in the restaurant, I paid cash eur for my meal, they charged my room also. Additionally, they charged me for 2 bottled waters that I bought outside the room. I left the 2 empty bottles in the room.

Excellent housekeeping staff , SOME good reception staff some quite hostile and not so welcoming emailed to extend booking however was ignored. They fill the mini bar however bare in mind nothing in the room is free... Including the coffee expresso pods unlike any other hotel in the world the coffee in the room is £2 each.. Even the washing up liquid and cloth is £4 and the harribos left on the table to look free are in fact also £4 ... you can ask ahead of time for them to clear the mini fridge but be aware of the 4 items they place to trick you into being charged for these items. The hotel rooms lack the price point standards the pictures of the pool are eluding of the dated rooms some are refurbished by mostly dated and having stayed in over 10 hotels this is by fare the tattiest and lowest standards your simply paying a premium for being gay and will probably fall for the aspect side of it unfortunately... like I did ... however that being said you can also get some good deals... The places certainly overcharges for what it is. The staff are friendly enough but the place is kind of a dump. Air conditioners that smell like mould (they probably all need to be thoroughly serviced). But I did like that the rooms all have a fridge and table etc.

There was a massive sewage issue during my stay and the bottom floors reeked with faeces and it eminated throughout the entire hotel. Not even a sorry, yet alone an alcoholic beverage for the issue and my risk of inhaling potential pathogens. Given their blasé nature about this leads me to believe this happens often at this hotel.

If I was to return to Maspalomas I’d probably stay somewhere else.

Staff very friendly. Pool area is nice. Gym needs new equipment, but luckily there is a nearby gym. Room was okay. Kitchen had no electrical outlets, no bowls, and the fridge is packed with a mini bar, so there is almost no room if you want to purchase something for later. The bed was two twin beds pushed together. The shower was great. It is close to the bars and nightlife.

When we checked into our room, the air conditioning was broken and the room was hot and smelly. The hotel was not able to send anyone to fix it, and said they didn’t have any other rooms available to move us to (which doesn’t make sense because we could see availability at the hotel for that same night when we searched online).
The conditions were really uncomfortable so we could not stay there. We requested a refund from the hotel but they refused as we had already ‘checked in’. So we ended up booking another hotel nearby and paying out of pocket since Axel wouldn’t refund us for that first night. The hotel was not very helpful or responsive. I’m sure they could’ve easily refunded us or switched to another room but didn’t. Horrible experience and we will never make the mistake of booking there again!

Conveniently located about 7 min walk to Yumbro. The room had nice touches with complimentary toiletries and coffee machine and some water n snacks which can be purchased and charged on check-out. The rooms are very dark with wall lights, maybe intentionally. There is Aircon in the living area, not the bedroom, which was annoying as i stayed during a hot period. The shower can be scalding hot - so set your temperature with care. My main issue was the flies in my room which were annoying, but probably just seasonal issue. Overall good, but at economy/budget end of the nark.

Overrated hotel!

Overpriced, and badly managed. Steam room stinks of mold, food is inedible, air con barely works, and there are never enough sunbeds. Staff are slow, unhelpful, and ignore complaints. Gym has no water, towels, or cleaning supplies. On 10-08-25 they even threw a private pool party for straight outsiders, forcing paying guests out — totally unacceptable for a gay hotel. Everything is an extra charge, not even a free coffee. The only good thing? The cleaning staff. Do yourself a favour and stay anywhere else.

The hotel is pretty old and expensive for what you get. The pool closes at 7 pm even during summer when weather is pretty hot. You are charged for everything even cofee at your room. No ambiance or activities during evenings.

A great hotel in general cannot fault the cleaners. They was fast at cleans and to a massively high standard changing anything without question that was remotely used in any way.

Overall a pleasant experience but they try to add so many extra charges that seem unnecessary.

Water is 4 euros per bottle and using the safe in the room is 3 euros per night. I’ve stayed in many hotels and I have never been to a hotel that charges for these.

Everything else is great. Very nice atmosphere and beautiful pool/terrace. Location is great, near Yumbo centre.

This was the second time that I have stayed at this property. It has a wonderful location; 5-8 minute walk to the Yumbo Centre. The pool is fantastic. Housekeeping let me sleep in every day, and were very helpful when I needed extra amenities. The front desk staff was always friendly and able to help answer any questions. Great hotel, mainly catering to LGBTQ+ travellers, but as they say, they are hetero friendly too. Breakfast is always excellent. A good sized pool with a jacuzzi on the side. Slightly let down by the hotel bar shutting at 18:00, but I guess it made sense with Yumbo just round the corner where all the nice bars are in Playa del Inglés. Would love to stay again.

On arrival, pool was a construction site with no prior notification from the hotel. The \"beach cabins\" shown in the photo were taped off. Construction workers were using hazardous chemicals that stank out the entire pool area.

I do remember Carmelo from breakfast, very kind and helpful.
I don't remember the name of the receptionist, but the service was beyond expected, with the issue we had with the swimming pool closed for maintenance.,we have received alternative options to make our stay smooth and memorable.

Great gay hotel complex

This is primarily a gay hotel but all are welcome. That said, the large mural showing a line of buffed and handsome men in swimming trunks was not quite what we saw lying around the pool, but perhaps they come in the summer.

The room we had was a nice size, with a lounge with kitchenette if you want to rustle up some food. The breakfast was great, the staff really friendly and helpful, it's located a few hundred metres from the Yumbo Centre, and it's a short walk from the various bus stops for trips to Maspalomas and other towns around the island.

The bar - at least in January - closed by 6 but there's a well-stocked minibar if you get desperate.

Get a room pool-side as the main road on the street side is very noisy in the daytime. If you book directly you might have a better chance of getting one.

The only criticism is that the rooms are a little scruffy in places, clean but clearly a bit dated.

We'd go there again.

The hot water wasn’t working - whilst they tried to fix it and I tried to give them the opportunity to resolve the situation they didn’t reply. It was fixed one night then the following day it broke again so one cold shower one evening and one morning.

AC making an impossible noise, impossible to use. As we arrived late we slept with AC off. Following day they tried to fix the AC and did not work. They changed room and AC was working OK but with bad smell. As I'm an DIY person I removed the filter and it was completly dirty, I washed in the shower. Property is OK, but it is not a real Axel, I would not come back as the price is higher as others in the area but it is not that good.

Pleasant stay at Axel again as the price was decent this time. Rooms are spacious but fairly standard and a bit too dark. Shower head upgrade is welcomed! Nice big bed.
Staff are always lovely and friendly. When the pool is busy there’s not enough staff for the bar so service is slow. Not the staff fault but managers need to improve that esp when people are paying extra for the luxury bed.
We stayed road side this time and actually was ok not as noisy as I thought.

My only issue was the noise of the traffic outside which made sitting on the balcony not great (I knew I had booked this side of the building due to the cheaper price but was not expecting the traffic noise to be as bad as it was).

For example in room 124 the paint was peeling off of the bathroom ceiling and the towel hanger was unusable and hanging off the wall. The rooms are basic and functional with a 90’s/2000’s vibe. My first time staying at an Axel hotel, and I had a great week. It was a good sized apartment, including air conditioning, dining and seating space. The bathroom had a powerful shower and hairdryer, and an iron was available on request. The pool and jacuzzi were great and all the staff were very welcoming (reception, bar staff and cleaners), and the other guests were friendly without being full on. There was a supermarket nearby, and a 10-15 minute walk to the beach, with the Yumbo also very close. My only downside is I found the bed mattress to be too hard, so the option of a softer mattress topper would be helpful. But I’d definitely stay again.

Easy and convenient stay close to Yumbo Centrum, with many choices nearby for shopping and dining. Staff and service was excellent, especially Alfonso and Kevin. Pool parties on Saturdays and Wednesdays were so fun with DJ Lucky and the Balinese beds are worth reserving with either a drink or food package. Great atmosphere and location!

Could use a makeover

The hotel has good bones and although the photos are realistic they were taken years ago and don’t account for the wear and tear over time. The entire property could use a makeover. Nevertheless, it was a good location, quiet for the most part but this could be because the hotel wasn’t full. The cleaning was done daily however it was substandard. There’s a coffee maker which brews cold coffee and no kettle to heat up water. The bed was relatively comfortable but the sofa was not. It’s cheap material that sticks to your body. The pool was great but jacuzzi is cold. It’s a “gay” hotel that is heterofriendly so do expect some straight couples amongst the men. I wouldn’t book this hotel again but I also wouldn’t return to Maspalomas as it’s pretty dead and mostly inhabited by people over 60. We barely saw any young people, it was quite depressing. Most shops and restaurants are closed or empty and the food quality is lacking and bland.

As a regularly visitor to Maspalomas I’ve stayed in many hotels in the area and now come back consistently to AxelBeach as it provides the best combination of friendly staff, size of hotel room and an amazing location.

From Kevin and Carmen on the front desk, to the bar, kitchen and cleaning staff, everyone is always incredibly friendly (and efficient). The rooms are incredibly clean with a daily cleaning service available This is an older hotel that was updated a couple of years ago to provide a modern environment. The rooms are like mini-apartments, with a separate bedroom, bathroom and living space incorporating a small kitchenette. I would recommend paying the extra to be on the pool/garden side of the hotel, though all the rooms are around the same size. The food service (breakfast and lunch) has improved considerably over the last couple of years and is now very enjoyable and sensibly priced.

The hotel is a comfortable 5 mins walk to the Yumbo centre, with many restaurants and shops in close proximity. The beach is also walking distance from the hotel. The hotel has one of the largest pools in the area, though as with most on Gran Canaria it’s not heated.

The guests have a wide range of ages which makes it more interesting. During festivals etc the hotel is very busy, outside of these has a more relaxed vibe. Regardless of age, I’ve always found the majority of guests here very friendly and nice.

The hotel is very modern, clean and comfortable. The room we had was spacious and as there were three of us we certainly had enough room. The room was well stocked too if you wanted to cook for yourself. It has a great pool too, and even on the pool party day we still had space to move about. The staff were amazing, they took their time with us and made sure we had all we needed and were really attentive. A special nod to Rayco, Kevin, Cristian, Diana and Carmen for helping us out.

Really enjoyed staying here. It was as cruisy as you want it to be, and as quiet. The staff are all great and helpful, the terrace and pool are beautiful and the beaches all near enough to walk to. I would recommend and will definitely come back!

From the moment we arrived the one thing that stuck out was the staff. They all make you feel welcome. They are all so proud to work there and its like a family. Ive never been anywhere where the staff have been like this.
The room was great. Seperate bedroom area
If you need iron and board simply ask at reception

Nice pool area quiet in the week but bbq with pool dj on saturday.
Most flights tend to be late but checkout was good. Somewhere safe to store baggage and use of all poolside including indoor shower to prepare for journey home
I can't recommend this hotel more highly

The only thing that wasnt to our taste was the breakfast. Well the cooked sude of it. The bacon was plasticy and the potatoe hash brown inedible as were like cardboard
The rest of the breakfast however was great and good choice of fresh fruit cold meats cheese and much more

It’s a decent property. Recently renovated but a pity they didn’t install power outlets in more convenient locations. They also need to provide more toiletries in the rooms. The staff make up for most of the shortcomings. They’re awesome.

Basic hotel. This is the second time I stayed here and chose a room facing the pool. This was more expensive. The room seemed smaller than the cheaper room facing the street. Bathroom dated and needs work doing. Balcony was great and spacious. I would say you get what you pay for but this room was more expensive than it should be. I wouldn’t choose this hotel again.

It wasn’t very clear on the website that this is a LGTBQ Hotel. that is their target market and should’ve probably been much clearer. I’m a heterosexual man and was decidedly uncomfortable with the flagrant posters and decals plastered around the hotel. When naked men enter the hot tub that was far beyond my comfort level and my expectations.

The hotel is far past its best before date, it’s just tacky and dated. The hot tub was not hot. The shower was lukewarm. It was a bit cool at this time of year and I was looking forward to a hot shower at the very least. Overall pretty disappointing stay, I am moved to another hotel for my remaining two nights.
