I booked a two bedroom room on my way over the mountains. I showed up and found the room I rented was not available apparently. I was assigned a different room. Walking up to the office, there was so much cigarette smoke, it was gross. I got a room key and walked to my room past the broken looking ice machine. When I unlocked the room, I was super disappointed. I’m not sure how this place got a 8+ score. The ac/heat unit under the window is covered if you close the curtains, there were bugs on the ceiling in the bathroom, dead bugs in lamp, bug on bed, bathroom light broken, shampoo, body soap and conditioner containers broken in shower, the room was not what was in the pictures and if so, they were old photos. My son and I had been on the road all day and just wanted to sleep….unfortunately the RV park across the lake had other plans. The music was so loud until almost 1am. I think the people who appear to be living at this place must have given the ratings. Definitely not worth the price paid.

Room was dirty. Gray hair and possible dog hair everywhere even in the bed, moldy dirty shower, towel had red gunk on it, stained pillow cases, room blinds don’t work, I could even see outside through the gaps in the sides of the air conditioner. The walls are very thin here and if you stay on the road side of the motel, be prepared for an extremely dark room with very dim room lights. Could barely see a darned thing inside..

I stayed at Blue Lakes Lodge for 3 nights. The staff member was helpful upon check-in. The lake was beautiful and scenic. The room was relatively clean; however, the beds were not the most comfortable and bedding had some noticeable stains. Additionally, the shower and sink in the bathroom were slow to drain.

That was the worst place that I’ve ever stayed. They charged too much for the rooms that were not even nice. You have no water access. You also have to pay for your stuff like your kayaks and stuff. If you bring your own, they do not accommodate you at all and I will not be staying there ever again. The floor was buckled the toilet when it flush it ran all night. The door didn’t lock. They didn’t tell us that you had to use your key to walk it again. The place was not clean outside was a mess. I will never be staying there ever again. It was the worst experience in my life. I didn’t even stay the second night. I lost our on $200.

Our family including our dog were headed north and decided to stay at the lodge because our 6 year old loves fishing. It was safe, clean, accommodating, pet friendly and the fishing dock is located directly in front of the hotel room so my son could fish with his dad while I relaxed on the porch with coffee. It was a perfect choice.

First of all, we did not stay at this property because the room had issues. There was water on the floor from a leaky refrigerator, when the desk manager was informed and he gave us towels to clean up the water. We have been trying to recoup our monies from expedia and have been given the run around. The place is a dump and I wouldn't advise anyone to stay there for any reason. I WANT A REFUND!!!

Beautiful view of tranquil lake but noisy highway

The lakeside rooms have a beautiful view of Upper Blue Lakes. There are porches with wooden chairs and a few tables to sit outside. It would have been perfect if not for the highway noise from Ca 20. No food is provided, but there are microwave, coffeemaker and coffee, Fridge. Its 6 miles to the nearest restaurant.

This place was recommended for so long by a friend , and finally we made it , we had a high expectation about it because the place looked so good , it all started with a phone call 3 days earlier before check in requested an early check in , it took a while for tue rude guy to pick up , and surprisingly he’s the only guy running the whole hotel , I mean it , check in , boat rental , janitor , valley , butler , bbq guy , …… wth , name it , so rude and note flexible , made a booking through Expedia they made a mistake and gave us wrong room , no help , no upgrade options , we come with family and kids and they actually he didn’t seems to care about my crying baby or my 8 months pregnant wife , zero zero hospitality, anyways we used Expedia for our booking and never again , already deleted Expedia. App never ,this place has potential but no TLC at all , what a waste

False advertising. I paid $168/night and there was no pool and no beach. I was willing to pay the price because the photos and description called it a “Lodge”. This place was a roadside motel. We were next to the road so loud we couldn’t sleep. Although we paid for 2 nights we left in 18 hours. It showed a dining room that was not there. The beach access was sand about 3ft wide in the middle of reeds. Couldn’t even swim. I want a refund or at least a credit from expedia

Although the hotel is not fancy, the rooms are prepared nicely with coffee pots, microwaves, and refrigerators. They have AC.

The beach area is rather disappointing; it's very minimal and can quickly be overcrowded. I wonder if some landscaping might provide more access to the lake.

I booked this from hotels.com using the reserved now pay later option. I reserved using my personal card but plan on using my business card when I checked in. When I checked in, I tried to put my business card down to pay and cover any incidentals but was told I couldn’t do that and they took payment from the card on file already. This is inconvenient because I have to wait days to get reimbursed. The room was clean but the mattress was hard as rock and whatever scent they use is over powering and made my eyes water the air conditioning unit was at bed level so it was blowing in my face or my back. My business meeting ended early I decided return home and asked if I could get refunded for the night I wasn’t going to stay but they said no which is fine just thought I’d ask. When I received my itemized receipt i noticed that room rate was different than the one I booked in Hotels.com. I asked the manager via phone since they were not on site why couldn’t changed the card on file when I checked in and she stated it was because they processed the payment 7 days in advance. I checked my bank statement and they did not charge me until I checked in on 7/27 and even my itemized receipt says charged on 7/27 so that reason was not true. I also inquired about the room rate difference and she told me I needed to take it up with hotels.com. This has been escalated with hotels.com but just a heads up if you book through a 3rd party you might be surprised at the end.

We have been going to LBL for almost 20 years now. This is the first year I’ve been disappointed in almost everything. It used to be that LBL was a resort and now it’s almost a glorified motel 6 on the water. First the price is the same as before- pricy but doable. We even added a night because we love to fish and they were on fire this week. The process of adding a night was easy from Expedia was fast, but I went to the office and asked if we could get a deal on another night. I was given a huge “Sigh”, and it will be $full price+tax. Plus the kitchenette rooms are not really set up for complete usage. The beds are the worst! Even our bathroom needed plunging on the first night. The office was closed and we had to wait till the next morning to get handed a crappy plunger.
Also come to find out when it’s check out time you have to leave. You’re not able to stay the day without paying $$ for day use. WTH we stayed all week over $fifteen hundred and we couldn’t swim on checkout day.
Btw during check in I stated I was paying cash and they had cards on file from previous visits that they tried running EVERY card on file for full price. SHADY!!!
I’m so disappointed and deflated over our yearly family vacation that I will spend my hard earned money with another lodging on Blue Lakes for next year.

The property is dated and in need of some maintenance, website shows a pool and it looks like it hasn’t been operational for some years. Staffing hours are incorrect and too many inconsistent answers, no one can give you a straight answer other than the person doing the housekeeping or the guy working the boat rental who is working very hard.

There’s something “off” about this property & feels like there’s no real oversight or understanding of what hospitality means in this business. It’s billed as a lakefront resort- but there are extra charges to use the bbq grills that are on the property, use of floaties, etc. There’s no beach although the lawn is nice. Staffing seems to be another issue with various people traipsing back & forth, a leaf blower going for over 5 hours one day- we finally begged him to stop. Started again the next day at least for a shorter time. The manager is doing the best she can but this place needs dedicated full time hands on attention.

Avoid This Place! Rude Staff, Terrible Service!

Rude Staff, and Run-Down Property

We live 25 minutes away and stay on Blue Lakes every summer. Everything else was booked, so we gave this place a shot. Big mistake.

We reserved two rooms, one for my husband, baby, and me, and one for my adult son and his girlfriend. We arrived at 1pm (check-in is 3). In the past, they let us use the lake early or charged a small fee. But the new owners were rude from the start. The office was locked, and once I found someone, she said it would be $30 per person or $50 per room just to sit by the lake until our room was done.

I asked them to call when our room was ready and I'd pay for early check-in ($50). They never did. 2 hours with a baby... At 3pm, check-in was slow and chaotic. Other guests were upset too. We were finally given one room, but the second wasn’t ready for another hour. When I expressed how inconsiderate it was to leave us sitting in the heat with a baby, the woman got defensive and rude, then made a snide remark about “one-day stays.” as if we weren’t welcome.

When the second room was finally ready, she told my husband, “This isn’t a 5-star hotel or a resort.” No kidding, but basic courtesy still matters.

The rooms were outdated and poorly maintained. Soap dispensers were broken, no recycling, and everything felt cheap. We weren’t expecting luxury, just kindness and competence.

Instead, we paid $579 for a truly unpleasant experience. I feel bad for anyone else who ends up here.

Safety hazards ,horrible management and literally charge you extra for everything...wanna use 1 of the bbq grills? They charge you..wanna use the fire pit? Yup they charge you..eanna use tge pool? Closed and watch where you walk and dont expect a railing to hold you up lol i wont even get started on the management when they dont like you they charge your cc then tell you before you even get to your room that they can kick you out and keep your money!! Used to be a great place but since new owners,management 2 years ago i guess this is whats left of a great spot :( $430 for a room i so expected more...hopefully they get inspected soon so nobody gets hurr on that deck or electrocuted with exposed wires

The on site manager was very rude and disrespectful. We were hoping to enjoy a family weekend including our daughter and grandchildren. The rooms in general were not clean and the furnishings were broken and dirty, as well. The swimming pool was empty and unusable. We reserved a boat for usage on the lake but due to the high winds the manager deemed it unsafe and refused to refund our $699.07 rental fee. She offered to allow us usage of a gazebo and gas bbq and a “gift certificate” instead. When we refused her offer she became enraged and began insulting us. Needless to say we will never return to or refer anyone to this property. Please beware!

Grounds were not kept. Not sure if it’s under new ownership because we went about 12 years ago and it was amazing. Shower is very very slippery and we were missing the shower curtain. Pool was empty and looked terrible! In order to use the bbq or fire pit you have to pay for it! Not worth the 249 a night that we paid.

Had a nice stay with my family (including 2 teen daughters and our dog). We originally booked a standard room with 2 queen beds. It was a bit cramped for so many of us and the beds were comfortable but noisy. Eric, the lodge innkeeper, kindly, upgraded us to an available suite the next day which was very comfortable and spacious. We had a lovely time for the remainder of our stay. Thank you!

Little gem of a motel in Lake county

Our stay was interesting. We recently had a huge rain storm, so the blue lake was more of a brown lake. It was too cold to enjoy the water. We look forward to going back in better weather.
The good:
The staff was incredible. Eric was a pleasure to work with. Ryan the handyman was very polite also. Eric's puppy Ranger is a cutie pie.
The room was nice and clean. There were some wear issues, it is not a new facility. Overall the room and grounds were very well kept. We got a room with a spa tub, and fireplace. Our room had front and rear access. We could go to the back, with a lovely lake view just outside our door. There was a nice patio set just outside our door. The dual showerheads in the shower were very nice, my partner and I could take our showers together and had plenty of room. The spa tub, fireplace, fridge, microwave, TV and coffee pot were all in good working order. There was ample parking, I'm sure during the warmer months this place is packed full.
The bad:
The bed was a bit firm for our tastes. There was a strong chemical smell from cleaning products, but that went away quickly. The heater unit didn't work. (Since we had the fireplace it wasn't needed) Eric offered to exchange our room, we declined the offer, it was appreciated. The towel rack in the bathroom was loose, Ryan replaced it when we went to go run some errands. There is some road noise, it is along hwy 20. The pool was closed (winter season).
We look forward to returning in the spring or summer.

A nice motel on the shores of the lake, with excellent staff. Our room was the executive suite, and it suited our needs perfectly. Dog friendly, lots of space, and Eric the manager was an excellent host. The room was warm and cozy when we arrived, and Eric was friendly, attentive and helpful. The location was great for our needs, and the price represented a real value.
We were here in the off-season, so some of the small details may have to do with our timing. Our room was clean and comfortable, but a little dated. The Jacuzzi tub was not functional (not a problem for us) and some of the blinds weren’t working well. The coffee maker probably needs to be replaced. The grounds could benefit from a spruce-up, and some guests need to be better and picking up after their dogs. Overall, we were happy with our accommodations and appreciated Eric and his help.

We were very disappointed. When we arrived at 3:00 we had hoped to sit by a peaceful, serene lake before the sun set behind the mountain. Instead, we got an hour of loud leaf-blowing......They should have that kind of work finished before the check-in time.....The hotel is written up as an all-remodeled hotel, but in the end, it is still just an old-style highway motel. The manager was very friendly.

Property is on busy highway so there is road noise. It is also on a lake so great for water sports. The property offers many water sport equipment for rent - such as kayaks, paddle boards etc. It is a motel with a big parking lot in the front and a small lawn in the back with view of the lake. Not much privacy from other guests. But the staff is really great, extremely helpful and friendly. Room itself is basic and relatively clean. Bed is comfortable. We were there for a wedding nearby so did not take advantage of the lake.

I use to work there and the last owners were difficult to work with but they kept that place clean and nice. Its a shame that our small community lost this paradise to someone who only cares about taking your money.

When I checked in, it was just after the check in time and there were so many people there who had apparently bought day passes that there was nowhere for a paying guest to park. At all. It was over 100° and I had dogs in the car and I had to park out by the road. The person who checked me in was not very nice to me, although he was plenty nice to the woman that he checked on before me. The room was good as far as air conditioning and tile floors. The floors were wet and sticky feeling. The bathroom could have used a deep cleaning as well. a couple hours after I checked in there was a public safety power shut off and the staff did not offer any kind of assistance to anyone. Luckily, it came back on after an hour. And perhaps the most disappointing, there is a photo of a pool on the website. The poo looks like it has been out of commission for at least a year. It has been drained and has a couple of feet of disgusting nasty water in the bottom. The entire enclosure is rundown in a state of disrepair with multiple broken pieces of furniture. it looks awful

This property's website lists it as a lodge. The photos are real but well-edited to give an appearance that doesn't match expectations.
We arrived to find a crowded property with extremely loud music playing. As we later learned, these people were just visiting for the day and paid to access the property. Once the day visitors left the crowd diminished and it felt more tranquil. The pool is closed and in disrepair.

Our room was clean, but dated and dingy. The staff was very polite and helpful.

The staff here are very friendly, the lake is beautiful and the water feels cool and refreshing. We rented kayaks for a couple of hours in mid morning and enjoyed every bit of it. They have tubes to rent, a small beach area and plenty of deck space that overlooks the lake to sit and relax. The room was clean and cozy but our a/c unit was clearly on it's last leg. Upper Lake's conviences are only a 6min drive and Lakeport a little over 20min. There is a small store here next to the lodge. We didn't fish here but saw one jump completely out of the water to catch an insect while kayaking. We would definitely stay here again.

Weekend Retreat in your own Back Yard

I traveled by the lodge several time a year on my way to my Soul Buddy's farm. Every time I pass it by I tell myself I want to stay there. I am so glad I had the opportunity to stay there with my Mom. Beautiful, and relaxing visit. The staff was over the top ~ I highly recommend you pay a visit and when you do - tell 'em Cookie sent you!

Excellent Weekend Stay!

The Lodge at Blue Lakes was an amazing stay. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The Lodge is right off the road however, the lake was extremely clear, clean, peaceful, and calm. This was an excellent stay where you can stand up board, rent a boat, and play in the sand. We did it all!

There was a point when an amenity went down, Charlie was more than happy to find a way to make it right without skipping a beat. Totally recommend this lodge especially, if you are looking for a weekend trip or to break up a long drive… and we will be coming back very soon!

Sweet little older resort. Rooms have been updated and were clean. Our room overlooked the lake. Very beautiful. Management was great, friendly, professional and promptly answered pre check in emails. Do not come here expecting a five star hotel. It is a small country older lodge, with the charm and ambiance of such. A wonderful place to \"chill\". We will be back.

This property is situated at the beautiful upper lake. It has a small beach access to the lake and plenty of water ladders into the water. The freshest of the lake water is remarkable. I enjoy swimming in the lake a lot and we come every year for a short staycation. The facility is well kept, consider its age, and we notice that there are always some small improvements every year we come. The lawn and the flowers are well manicured. One can see how much care the operators are putting into making the environment pleasing and relaxing. A small convenient store right next to the property is reopened this year (it hadn't been opened during covid years), and this adds to the charm of the place!

It’s really nice to have a place like this available, to stay in Lake County! Unfortunately, for the insanely high price, I wouldn’t stay here again. Our room was tiny and it was missing things that we needed. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and was the best part of our stay! I wouldn’t pay more than $200 for a room here, and the price to rent kayaks and boats is double what you would pay pretty much anywhere else. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but won’t return. If they’re going to charge this much, they should back it up with higher quality.
