The hotel was lovely, the staff in the restaurant were lovely. New restaurant opened with obvious teething Problems but it’s beautiful and the Food was lovely.

Unfortunately the room was far too hot, unbearable. Asked for the radiator in the bathroom to be turned off the receptionist said someone will go to the room to sort it out but it wasn’t, asked for some info about the hotel such as spa details times for meals, the normal stuff you get in a room, the receptionist just kept saying I don’t know, I’m not sure etc and I’ll find out but never got back to us. Both things were disappointing that no one got back to us.

lovely stay the staff on entrance absolutely lovely and helpful.. the only downside was the younger staff in the restaurant (which was in the conservatory) were clumsy and loud dropping and smashing crockery. not all of them but it was very noisy in there .

We went for a Mini Moon. The staff were nothing short of fantastic. They were super accommodating. The hotel is beautiful. Amazing views of the sea from room and their restaurant.

The only down side we can say that the vegan options in the hotel were there but in some of the restaurants is limited but the food we had was delicious.

The staff were the best thing about this hotel - super friendly and helpful, where hotel policy allowed.

Good view on the coast and some nice features, including comfortable sofas in ballroom.

We got the Ocean View room - supposedly best available, but totally not worth the £440 per night rate we were charged. The rooms were small and very ordinary, especially bathroom with shower in bath and no mixer taps. Nothing particularly wrong with them - clean etc - and would have been reasonably happy if cost was half that rate.

Not sure what the point of the ‘golf’ was. Pitch and putt with barely any evidence of maintenance. Mostly losing ball in scrubland. No point taking clubs and equipment lent out is inadequate even for a bit of fun.

Spa has been done nicely. Careful thought in design, attention to detail and execution.

Other than water in rooms in glass bottles, no evidence of sustainable or climate conscious practises. Must be huge waste from buffet breakfast. Disposable plastic glasses in spa. No info on how spa is powered - must be huge energy demand to heat outdoor pools, run jets, clean towels etc.

We had a wonderful stay recently at the Headland with our 1 year old baby. We’d received an email regarding staff issues across Cornwall and contract tracing causing some issue with staffing, this helped us actually feel reassured before we arrived and safe and we appreciated the notification for some extra patience. The staff were brilliant throughout our stay, we visited the Terrace & Samphire which were brilliant, the food was delicious and the staff were so accommodating and engaging with our daughter after a year without seeing many people this was a joy to see. We also visited the adults only spa & aqua club during our stay. They are both wonderful and perfect for different uses. The aqua club was a wonderful place to spend time and swim inside and out with our daughter included. We will be back soon 😊

Our only slight criticism, is when we arrived we were told we owed a balance - and we had to get a little stern to comment it was paid via hotels.com (also a bit embarrassing to have this happen in a busy hotel lobby) and this was referred to manager who promptly resolved the issue and we were able to check into our room.

We had a fantastic stay, the staff were helpful, friendly and very professional. The food was excellent, until the continental breakfast on the last morning, portions were tight to say the least, no tea and coffee, despite ordering it, no cutlery, it took three visits back downstairs to sort it, when we eventually ate it, it was mediocre. Only Other sticky point was the extra bed in our family suite for our adult son was a fold out frame 5 inches off the floor which kept collapsing, he ended up sleeping on a thin, single mattress on the floor, he’s 6’ 2 and big built. For this we had to pay an extra £80. All of that being said we would definitely be going back.

Very dated, seemingly only a choice of a tiny box room or a large suite style room. Neither worth the cost. Definitely over priced and the food was terrible. Although they’ve catered for vegan and gluten free food well the “fresh” food was clearly frozen, the fried food was refried so go early otherwise the sausages are tough burnt and oil soaked. Restaurant food was terrible although they did take it off the bill when we highlighted it didn’t match the description.

The staff tried hard and location was good.

Gym facilities were good however crowded at times as non hotel guests use the gym so avoid peak times.
We were first put in a very small room which could just about walk around the bed.

Stayed 2 nights for a friends wedding. The scenery is spectacular overlooking the sea. The Hotel is extremely dog friendly and the rooms are comfortable. Staff very welcoming and friendly would definetley stay again. The wedding food was excellent but didn't try the main restaurant itself. Breakfast was very good choice.

We had a lovely post Christmas spa break at the Headland.
Rooms were great, staff were very friendly while still being professional, the spa was super, food was lovely.
This is a great family hotel and it is lovely to have kids and dogs around.
My only comment would be that with the kids around, the pool in the spa gets a bit busy and noisy but this will soon be resolved when the new pool complex is completed in 2020.
We will certainly be going back.

The Hotel was lovely and we really enjoyed our stay. We hoped it to be special and the hotel itself was.
What was a huge disappointment was the spa. They seem to usurp off the hotels reputation, we were not used to children being given more spa time than adults, very disappointed that treatment prices weren't made clear on booking. Most treatments cost around £2 a minute. We were told this was because the Hotel was high-end, but having been to NIRVANA SPA in Berkshire, We know what is high end spa, and this is not it! we were informed children will not be permitted after the new pool complex is built. We booked for the views but also for the spa and the latter was a horrendous experience. We felt cheated.

On both our meals, extras were added on to my bill. On one occasion an extra course was added on. Then again for dinner the following night, another side was added on and 3 coffees and a tea, for one adult! In total, on two meals, I got the wrong items on my bill three times. This is a 5 star property. Disappointing. The room super small, the beds tiny, the TV screen tiny and no facility to dry your clothes or swimwear from spa. The room felt stuffy from the old carpet.

We loved the Headland and would definitely come back. It was a gorgeous hotel and the beds were very comfortable. It was our anniversary (and my bday) and they had our rose petals on the bed and made swans from towels on the bed. Very sweet little touches.

There are two resturants in the hotel, we had lunch at the Terrace. It’s a cute seaside casual reasturant with beautiful views. The eclairs are amazing! My only complaint was I told the server of my allergy and I was still served something I was allergic too. I had medicine with me and I was ok, but it did make the first couple hours of our anniversary uncomfortable.

Breakfast in the morning was incredible. They have a full buffet of literally everything you could ever want for breakfast. All hot, fresh and tasty

The only downside to our stay was the noise level, you could hear every footstep of the floor above us and people talking. And then the pool area was very loud and full of screaming splashing in your face children ( this is not the hotels fault, but parents should be more considerate).

There’s cute bars and shops right on Fistral beach, literally a stones through from the hotel. And in town we found an incredible reasturant with literally the best food and ambience, I totally recommend checking out Captain Jacks. Pirate themed and full of yummy rum cocktails... and the lobster was to die for.

Perfect hotel in a beautiful part of Cornwall.

Amazing traditional hotel with wonderful service and a supermodern spa. When I woke up from jetlag looking for coffee before the dining room opened(not wanting to wake my husband) the front desk brought me a coffee service on a tray at a window overlooking the sea. Great service! The modern spa was a treat and I expecially enjoyed the Cornish Salt steam room.Wonderful walks to the sea and cliffs from the hotel.

The hotel was very drab. Quite old fashioned and the rooms very small and dated for the price. You are paying for the location. But it is quite a depressing gloomy old building. I am glad I didn't opt for the more expensive restaurant and ventured out. On returning I popped my head in and it was clearly lacking and atmosphere. Glad I didn't go on my own tab! It needs an update and must detatch itself from the past. It has all the trappings of a faded victorian sea side resort an rested on its past well beyond its sell by date. I understand nobody want's to get rid of lovely wood paneling etc but the hotel has to modernise and get some vibe into it to compete at those prices. Won't be going back.

A really grand and beautiful hotel set in a perfect location! We brought our dog and it was the most dog-friendly place ever!! The spa is the best I’ve ever been to as the facilities were superb, the views were incredible and the place was so relaxing. I can highly recommend the Highland if you’re after something special. It’s a short walk to the beach, the staff are lovely and the food was delicious. Best buffet breakfast I’ve ever been to and they’ll cook anything you want fresh too! I was genuinely upset to leave yesterday and would have stayed longer if husband wasn’t back at work.

I loved the position : so picturesque! And also the food very fresh! I did not like at all the bed matterasses: too soft matterass should be orthopaedic so that your back don't hurt and firm!
I didn't like the carpet at all and the colours of the rooms should be more lighter: instead of the carpets you should put parquet in solid wood.

The size and standard of the room does not reflect the price. The SPA is congested and the pool is very small. Wifi was flaky at best. Staff and Hotel in general very nice. Described with a sea view however there is a building site in the way of the view so take care when booking!

Didn't make a reservation for the evening meal in the restaurant and despite tables being vacant restaurant manager refused entry. If guests want to eat in the hotel restaurants reservations are advised to avoid being turned away

The Witches film hotel :-), fabulous classic building. Wonderful location with stunning views of Fistral Beach. I cannot easily criticise anything at The Headland. The beds were a little less than vg., we had trouble with WiFi over busy period. But that is not picking. Great holiday break.

The headland hotel exceeded our expectations. The location was fantastic, the food brilliant, and the staff professional, kind and helpful! The hotel, with its decor, sweeping staircases and log fires was remonlscent of Downton Abbey and as such really romantic. We had a brilliant few days celebrating my lovely husbands birthday. We could not fault it!

I hoped for more staff good

Bed far too short. I booked and unpacked. Got an iron and board and decreased my shirts etc. Then told an error I was in the Wong room. I did not make the error issue resolved I stayed in the original room given me. The hotel is good and I assume on route to upgrade to 5* but my room did not justify £118/night and that was a special offer. I will return only because there is nothing better and it’s only a 15 minute walk to my meeting.

Good Location and good Hotel, but not so if you are disabled. Hotel room not as requested, manager involved and tried to increase room charges, He drew attention to the small print on booking form about room not guaranteed to be available, never had this response before.
After 1 hour a room was found and extra charges waivered.
Be prepared for your room to have a bath and no walk in shower, even then the showers seen had no grab handles or non slip floor. Plus all toilets seen were too low without any help in getting up. If we had not taken our own toilet raiser along with us we would have been stuffed
Shame, good hotel but not up to todays disabilities.

Lovely hotel, very friendly our second stay visited 3 years ago , great views from bedroom and breakfast first class , it's like staying at a country hotel, little disappointed that no milk or coffee were left in the room one day , we pointed this out to reception however no action was taken ie no replacements sent to the room , hence service 4 star not 5 star

Super hotel in brilliant location

Very smart but relaxed and comfortable feeling in the hotel. We loved the surfers being able to come and go from the hotel in comfort. The location is perfect. Our only negatives would be the cooked breakfasts were never hot & barely warm under the hot plates. We had to ask for our pots of tea to be made with boiling water otherwise the tea was never hot. We loved our stay and will definitely return.

Our room was horrible. A tiny tv which didn’t work properly. The room was tight and it was hot with the thermostat not working. The bathroom had a fan that was noisy and we could not control. I have stayed at the hotel before and I am so disappointed nothing has changed!

The staff are lovely (every single one) however the hotel is tired and does not justify the room rate.

I stayed for effectively my honeymoon and although the hotel were aware and said they would make our stay special the best they could do was a room looking over the car park and the smoking shed. They did try with some towel oragamy and plastic rose petals

Not the hotels fault but there was a rowdy wedding party in and they made all of the communal areas unpleasant unless you wanted to join them in f’ing and geoffing every other word.

On the whole I would not recommend this hotel for the price. It has so much potential but actually let us down.

Location is amazing and staff are lovely BUT

As i said above the location is amazing right by the beach and the staff are lovely in the main. But for the price, the rooms were small, old fashioned and had no a/c. Thankfully the weekend wasn't that warm, as we had the windows wide open and just managed. The WIFI was crap and I turned it off in the end and gave up and used 4G. Whilst we had dogs with us and we had to eat in the area outside the main dining area along with others, the quality of service was again poor.

Hotel is in a stunning location. Didn’t go into Newquay but used the hotel as a base and travelled around Cornwall. Beautiful scenes!
The hotel looks very grand and the rooms are of a good size. Unfortunately there is no air conditioning in the rooms so they were very hot at night. We couldn’t sleep with the windows open because the fans on the roof produced so much sound. Unfortunately it wasn’t a good nights sleep! Breakfast was very good and enjoyed it in our room instead of heading down to the breakfast room.

Golden wedding celebratiom

The room was very small and very dated. The coffee/tea facilities in a cupboard was very inconvenient. Nowhere to put our own things in the bathroom and hotel toiletries not replenished. The celebratory meal in the restaurant was very average and nowhere near as good as the Fifteen restaurant we visited the next day. In all we found everything overpriced for both quality and quantity.The location was perfect and parking excellent.

Nice hotel perfect location

Hotel was lovely, rooms a little dated and bed and pillows very uncomfortable (too soft for us). But we had a great time visiting the spa and samphire restaurant also. Would highly recommend

Amazing hotel.

The hotel was amazing as was the staff. They couldn't do enough for you. I don't think i've had a better full English breakfast in any hotel before, there was so much choice. The only slight quibble I have is the room we stayed in, 011, had no view at all apart from the wall opposite so we had to go outside to see what the weather was doing but that was only a minor inconvenience. I would recommend this hotel to everyone but just check what sort of view you have first. We will definitely be going back.

The level of service from arrival to checkout was excellent. All staff were very warm, friendly and helpful, especially Tim from Concierge. We received an upgrade to a partial sea view upon check-in which was unexpected and welcome. As it was a rather wet and dreary day the indoor, heated swimming pool, steam room and sauna were great features - and they were in excellent and clean condition. Dinner at The Terrace was priced inline with our expectations and the view was outstanding over Fistral Beach as was the sunset over the Atlantic. The only slight criticism was that breakfast was rather busy and we waited a while for our coffee. Overall, a lovely experience and we hope to go back one day in the future.

Super recommended!

We had a great time at Headland, it was my first time in Cornwall and we loved it. We stay in the internal room, It is small but comfortable and very clean. If I should fault something would be the coffee pods, the taste was awful, as a coffee lover I got excited when I saw the coffee machine... but hey! The breakfast was pretty good, the staff super friendly, the service room quick, the location fantastic. We also used the spa facilities and I certainly recommend. Headland is now in our favourites and we are already planning to go back soon:)

Fantastic!

From the moment we arrived to the time that we left, the hotel staff couldn't do enough for us. It did not matter that we had not paid 'top dollar' for our room, we were treated with the utmost respect and courtesy befitting guests. A special thank you to Jamie on reception for arranging an emergency dental appointment when toothache struck and to Ruby for organising a 'soft' evening meal when the anaesthetic wore off. We would wholeheartedly recommend anyone to visit the Headland Hotel and enjoy the hospitality so lacking in many other establishments. Thank you to all the staff. We look forward to returning soon.
