The main hotel is nice, staff very helpful. Comfortable bed. Rooms and bathrooms are dated. There’s shampoo, conditioner and body wash-nothing more. My room (404) was incredibly hot, there’s no AC which surprised me, and i couldnt leave the windows open as area outside my bathroom is where pigeons perched and make a racket.. so I didnt have a good nights sleep. I wouldn’t pay full price for this hotel.

Start off with the reception when we arrived, she wasn’t welcoming at all very rigid and unhelpful as she directed on two occasions to the wrong location (our room and the spa)

The room was very dated and the bed was too small for two adults and the pillows very uncomfortable.

As for the spa (we had booked a treatment) staff were also not welcoming, had to wait a long time to get seen . Could hear all noises from the outside during the treatment which wasn’t very pleasant.

Staff in general are very cold and withdrawn. Something you don’t expect when you come for weekend night away.

Will not be booking at the imperial again.

The Imperial, Torquay exceeded my high expectations! You could feel the grandeur and romance as you look out to a magnificent view! I could imagine Agatha Christie's characters here! The magnificent Manager, Nigel, made sure that my stay was most memorable! It is clear that his Commitment to Excellence is present in the Customer Service provided by Kelly at the Desk and Michael in Dining! Wonderful Breakfast and ideal location too!

Amazing characterful hotel. Chandeliers were a wonderful sight. Huge areas to sit and relax. Wonderful views across the bay. Sadly the service in the restaurant was extremely slow. A word of apology with an explanation would have helped. But we were just left sitting and waiting…… The restaurant was not that busy. Maybe that was the reason why!
Our starters arrived around 50 minutes after we ordered them. Plated up with very little imagination. The main course arrived within a short space of time, but again it looked very uninspiring. The Salmon could have had a wedge of lemon and a sprig of parsley to dress it up a bit! A big letdown when the hotel itself is so welcoming.

We stayed at the Imperial for one night and had a fantastic experience. There is so much interesting history in the hotel, we loved seeing all the antique furniture and old architectural style. The entire hotel was very clean, there was lovely views out over the sea from the bar and breakfast area. We would definitely stay again.

We could not stay at This property . It was poor condition and the room we booked was not provided. It was hot , no ac and not even a fan was provided . The bed was shocking , The outdoor pool was closed and overgrown and mouldy . My wife has poor knees and could not have used the shower over bath. This hotel is a 2-3 star . We had staff revving motorcycles under our window and talked loudly.

My recent stay at the Imperial Hotel in Torquay was exceptional from start to finish. The professionalism, kindness, and genuine warmth shown by every member of staff made the visit truly memorable.

Kelly and Ndey on reception were outstanding — welcoming, attentive, and effortlessly helpful as always.Housekeeping were equally impressive, keeping everything spotless with a friendly smile. The bar staff added to the experience with their charm and excellent service.

A special mention must go to the incredible,breathtaking views across the bay.

I highly recommend the Imperial Hotel. It’s a place where you feel genuinely cared for, and where every detail is handled with warmth and professionalism.

We booked a room with a balcony with a view across the bay it was it was exactly what was described, but yet far better than our expectations. My husband has to use a crutch at the moment to get around ,from the time we parked the car there was a young man enthusiastically wanting to help him with luggage extremely polite, that continued during our stay, The staff at breakfast were equally considerate ensuring the our table was in a convenient spot, There was a wonderful section of fruits, pastries ,juices , cheese, ham the list is endless, the cooked breakfast had a equally good selection all cooked and presented to a great standard, (which can be challenged)
We would have no hesitation on recommend the hotel it far exceeded our expectations.
( both my husband and l have both had excellent careers in the hospitality industry which the hotel was unaware of)

The location was excellent and the staff are very helpful, the room was nice and large but not very clean it looked old and tired, that said the whole place was showing it's age. On the plus side the food was excellent along with how quiet the hotel is, this ideal if you want to relax. We would go back again even though it had it's small faults.

The hotel has fantastic views over Torbay. We stayed in a standed side sea view room, which was quite nice but unfortunately the balcony door was locked so unable to use which was a shame.
There was some noise from other guests at night which was sorted at by hotel staff.

This hotel highlights the fact they have an outdoor pool but it is always closed for maintenance. I believe they have no intention of ever reopening it. They should remove any mention of outdoor pool. They simply say it is closed for maintenance in the email they send you a few days before your stay. Hotels.com must remove outdoor pool from your website because YOU are complicit with this untruth.

Disappointed the outdoor pool was closed this was not made aware to us at the time of booking,sent 3 messages to the hotel via chat service never recieved a reply.

On arrival I discussed this with the lady on reception who did not seem bothered just said it's on the website that the pool is closed,

Nice oldy worldy hotel rooms nice size and comfortable.

Understaffed at breakfast the poor lady greeting us was lovely but rushed off her feet.

Not the top class hotel it used to be , we have stayed a couple of times there now .

Extremely dated in bad need of an upgrade. Furniture in room was extremely out of date and old. Radiator in the room rusty. All communal stair carpets need cleaning of dust on the edges. Outdoor pool closed and area run down. Furniture on the terrace old and in bad need of renovation or replacement. Terrace was uninspiring and barriers needing updating. Breakfast was ok, but the hot food was burnt and dried out by the time we got down there at 9.15 am, so we went down earlier the following day.

We booked a delux double room one double bed bay view( balcony or terrace)
Dont know where delux came in. The room was dingy,had no fridge, no table on balcony,one bath towel and one hand towel.
This particular room was advertised as having a walkin shower,this was why we chose this particular room owing to my disability , shower was in the bath.
Also advertised as having an outdoor and indoor swiming pools.
Website pics.looked amazing ,another reason for booking this hotel. On arrival found the outdoor pool was covered up and looked as if had been in this state for some time, very unkempt area.
On complaining to reception was a waste of time. Totally uninterested .

Me and my husband spent a night in this lovely hotel. Sea view from our room, rooms are clean, variety of tea and coffee selections in the room. Stuff is going the extra mile for their customers.Breakfast was delicious , hot food and continental breakfast paying attention for guests who has allergies. Variety of lacto free products. The hotel is probably dated from outside but inside it is lovely , clean and beautiful . We can’t wait to go back thank you 😊

Fantastic welcoming staff who went out of their way to help. Sea view balcony was well worth the extra as it was the hottest day of the year and early morning tea at 6am there with the fantastic view and slight breeze started the day beautifully. The indoor pool was great (12 metres) and quite soon after opening (7am) so 100 lengths were done in no time without having to weave around more sedentary swimmers. Breakfast buffet and evening meal both good with fantastic views. Only downside was checking in. We arrived at 4 with a long slow moving queue and 3 separate couples returning to the desk while we were in the queue as their given rooms were already occupied! No one tried to get into our room but it was a bit disconcerting.

Taunting by tall Irish boy bar waiter when I arrived and loud yelling near my room and stalking at night!! My room had leaking shower and dripping toilet noises and doors shook and windows too. No still water for two weeks! No salt and pepper on dining table in bar lounge. No air conditioning and not allowed to open terrace doors or windows! Interrupted my shower trying to make me check out an hour early!! The manicure was poorly made and not finished properly and my massage did nothing for my back pain !! No porter service for my luggage and had to beg for help and I have injured hands!! My taxi was 30 minutes late and almost missed my train!! No answer to my phone calls to front desk waiting for 10 minutes for an answer!!! The furniture upholstery is peeling off and cobwebs in the ceiling of bar lounge!! This wreaks of discrimination against American citizens and disabled women!!! I will never ever stay there again even though my cousin’s mother worked there in the early 1900s!!!

We stayed at this hotel on Saturday and unfortunately were quite disappointed with the experience. The hotel itself felt very dated and cleanliness standards were not what we expected. The swimming pool area was disappointing as the steam room was not working during our stay.
There also didn’t seem to be enough staff on duty. We waited a very long time to be served at the bar, and when we finally received the wine we ordered, it tasted awful, almost as if it was out of date and we couldn’t drink it.
Breakfast was okay-ish, but overall the stay did not feel worth the price and the hotel really needs updating and better management, was definitely overpriced as well.

I booked and paid extra for a seafront room. The view was wonderful. Unfortunately the room was not:
1) The bed was disgracefully bad - the springs on both sides of the bed are worn out, causing a person to roll off the bed unless they stay in the absolute centre of the bed.
2) Both of the armchairs are absolutely shot - the springs in both are now non-existent - they are so old and worn out.
I like to take about 4 two-night breaks a year. I chose The Imperial because it is four star hotel and I had hoped to go there 4 times this year. I would never want to encounter such an uncomfortable room as 322 again though.

Beautiful building, hopefully will be preserved for future generations. The paint and carpets need redoing, they shouldn't advertise the outdoor pool if not operational. The gardens have a lot of potential. The services provided 24/7 were amazing. The spa and breakfast food were excellent. Didn't see that we had to pay for parking prior to booking but as it was such a great deal I didn't mind. Staff were very professional and welcoming. Highly recommend.

Lovely period building sadly lacking the modern amenities. Rooms were comfortable but no mini fridge.
The bar was very limited to choice and over priced for what they did offer.
Service was sadly lacking too. Staff were pre-occupied with other tasks to even offer a glass for a bottle of alcohol free lager. When asked about the choice the the result was. Beer is beer….😳
Breakfast was good but again when request for gluten free was made this was not received in a timely manner.
Most of the food itself was very nice and a large selection of breakfast foods are available.

We had a sea view room. Nice big walk in wardrobe . The bathroom was good although the shower was Luke warm. Big bed and nice to have extra seating looking out over the balcony for two people as well as a chair at the dressing table. A small table on the balcony would be beneficial but may not have been there as we visited in April and was lucky with the weather to be sunny enough to sit on the balcony. Staff all friendly, very efficient in the restaurant and for breakfast. The decor of the room and hotel is a bit outdated but this was what we expected from a hotel of this size and age. We enjoyed our stay and would visit again.

We had a lovely stay at the Imperial. Although on arrival we thought the exterior looked tired and was worried about what the interior would be like. Nevertheless we needed not to be concerned as it is in a very good condition internally. Our room was a nice size and probably one of the most comfortable beds I have ever had at a hotel.
The breakfast was of a good standard. One tiny complaint is they I had to.pay for the car park.
Overall it’s a lovely hotel, nice staff and a very pleasant stay in Torquay.

Loved the very diverse breakfast. Absolutely lots of choices . Continental English and food was special. The building has character the location great. Bus stop outside parking for disabled and other . Views outstanding. Room service daily and good. My only gripe was that the window in the cosy bedroom was out of reach but my husband climbed to open it as there was no air flow. I knew there was no balcony however there was but closed off as needed repair. It was locked and I was able to open it just and inch. Still not enough for fresh air. The window was consequently very dirty . But I could see the sea through it. Overall we lived the stay though. Communal areas lively toilets clean and pool a delight .

Bit of a mix up.at checkin as I was sure my booking included breakfast but I was told it didn’t as I'd upgraded to a seaview.. I'd booked in a hurry so we didn't query. We did get a discount by ordering and paying there and then, but it was an expense I hadn't budgeted for
It was a lovely room in the gardrn area with outside furniture and a great view. Breakfast is buffet and plenty of choice, although the blackpudding was overcooked. Dissappointed to see young children being a nuisance at the table next to us. I wonder if maybe a polite notice asking guests to not let children run around and banging on the table. Also advise adults not to take phone calls at the table. Its just rude.

Helped with luggage to room.
Deluxe king with sea view. Very dated ,balconcy ,paint flaking off handrail ,chairs no table ,patio doors needed a good clean. Not enough sockets,no bathrobes or slippers as advertised. Food at breakfast ok,but Lounge Bar food very pricey and poor.Not enough staff.Charge for towel rail in bathroomto be put on.Heating worked only in evening.Asked for a mini fridge before arrival ,which was in room for us but should be standard nowadays.Menu in Lounge and Restaurant needs changing ,the same thing everyday.Extra charges for this and that.No room service menu in rooms.No menus in room.Only real on info everywhere was about spa treatments. Which cost more on Friday,Saturday. Outdoor pool out of action,which has been like that looking at reviews for over a year.Needs money sent on rooms and outside.Photos shown on website are 6 to 9 years old.Stayed in better hotels in Turkey ,Spain with less stars

The outside of the hotel is looking a bit drab and in need of a good clean/paint. The reception area was very pretty and reception staff were pleasant. Check in was quick and efficient. Our room was large although could do with a refurbishment as some furniture was scruffy and ripped and the carpet was dirty, well worn and had an iron burn on it. There was plenty of storage. Tea and coffee making facilties also available. The bathroom was ok although there was signs of mould and the shower screen didnt stop the water going over the floor, however there was plenty of hot water and the shower was very powerful. Breakfast was v good with lots of choice. Staff efficient and smart. We enjoyed our stay but it could have been much smarter for a 4 * hotel so a little disappointing. Parking was £10 per night, or £20 for undercover spaces.

Rooms were clean and very large. The hotels communal areas are grand and beautifully decorated but the corridors and rooms could do with refurbishment. The car park is a joke. Very expensive and not at all managed by the hotel depsite them owning and charging for it. People were parking over 2 bays and the hotels wouldnt do anything about it even though they had every guests number plate on check in. This created a bit if a bunfight for parking spaces and not the relaxing start to the trip we would like. The view was stunning and the drinks were reasonably priced. Silly things like not having any mayonaise let them down. Overall though we had a wonderful stay and i think the hotel is good value for what we paid.

Sleeping was very difficult due to
Paper-thin walls!
The maid often left things about the room, crumbs on the floor so the floors weren’t vacuumed. I had to repeatedly, every day ask for the same items i.e. coffee, brown sugar, washcloths,etc. However, the staff are 5-star!!! Breakfast was good. It takes forever to get drinks at the bar, or through to the bar for room service food! Cleanliness could be better. Fantastic views!

The staff were excellent could not do enough for us. The property is beginning to look shabby in places, needs T.L.C. We had a lovely suite looking over the bay with a balcony, but I was very very disappointed that all the balcony doors were locked off so no one could open them. A sticker on the door says that it is waiting for maintenance. On enquiry the maintenance has not done for a very long time. I am a keen photographer which made the stay very disappointing.

Very friendly and helpful staff, clean room apart from uncomfortable mattress. Lovely view from room. Food very good standard. Enjoyed use of swimming pool, hot tub and steam room. Would stay again.

A grand hotel with lovely views however whilst the public areas are rather splendid, some areas do look a little tired and in need of updating. This didn't detract from our stay though. Plentiful and varied breakfast and a great location

This was our 2nd time staying at the hotel as we really enjoyed the last visit. The room this time was 150, very small, very dated the balcony door was closed for safety reasons. Towel heaters in the bathroom didn’t work so was cold in there. This compared to the spacious room we had last time was like chalk and cheese. Probably won’t return again as when you add on parking and breakfast there are much better rated hotels available.

Excellent staff, room was good enough, bed very soft and could do with an uplift, some bits looked dirty because they were old and dated, rips in furnishings, limescale all over towel rail. Coloured bath mat. We didnt use spa facilities or pool but went looking for it and it was a nightmare to find within the hotel, bit if a rabbit hole with neverending corridors.

Wonderful staff. Our deluxe sea view rooms on 4th floor had beautiful views. We requested rooms where pets were not allowed due to my uni student teenage daughter's allergies. She arrived with red, itchy face and her face improved significantly during our 4 day stay, so they clearly obliged. Furthermore we were put in interconnected rooms and this really made our stay - connected via corridor. All staff were very friendly from the young chap on reception to the breakfast and spa staff. The pool water was amazingly warm, which meant we were happy to enjoy it everyday as well as the jacuzzi. We loved the breakfast and views - lovely atmosphere. Yes the hotel rooms could do with refurbishment, but we knew that prior to arrival and it did not bother us, as everything in the room worked well and room was well stocked with water (still and sparkling), tea, coffee and nice toiletries. Toiletries bottles were large and good quality, which I appreciated as after using the pool many times I needed cream to hydrate. Normally in hotels I only use my own toiletries. Rooms were very spacious and comfy. Lovely warm room temperature - one could hardly believe how cold it was outside. The only thing was little low water pressure in the shower, but we sometimes experience that in our own house. Hotel is very quick walk from town the centre and very convenient to eat out/shop. The lobby entrance is lovely. Big thanks for unexpectedly wonderful stay.

Sadly, we left feeing a little disappointed. The communal areas (entrance floor) are all as per photos - beautiful and immaculately kept. The rooms are tired. Very tired and dated, generally cleanliness ok however I wouldn’t class The Imperial as the same as 90pc of the four star hotels I’ve visited. The “spa” has a reasonable pool ok hot tub and good saunas with nice staff but again the photos are overtly generous. We visited in February the occupancy was particularly low and some consideration for the parking rate and free room upgrades would go some way to improving the customer experience for such a dated property. We try and preference independents over the chain hotels in the UK but if we were to visit the area again I would be booking one and earning loyalty points in preference.
