I had reserved a pet-friendly room for 2 nights, and upon entering the property I had several concerns. The adjoining room had people in there with multiple dogs that kept barking, causing my dog severe distress. They were also blasting music, and with the paper-thin walls, it was just not going to work out. We also noticed wet caulk in the doorway to the bathroom, spread onto the floor. The people outside were very sketchy and it became a concern for our safety. We simply could not stay there. I have tried several times to get a refund, but they simply do not respond to any message.

Once i finally git checked into the room the accommodations and location were perfect. The virtual check-in process was frustrating. Once i finally got a live human on the phone i was checked in and could get into my room after sitting in the parking lot for 45 minutes.

So be aware that you were getting what you pay for in this hotel it has been somewhat remodeled to an art deco style and the staff was helpful, but check-in and out was very awkward. Somewhat pleased with the price but definitely got what I paid for that price it was average on cleanliness

Extremely Disappointed — Poor Cleanliness and Unsafe Conditions

I rarely leave reviews, but my recent stay at this hotel was unacceptable. The comforter on my bed was burnt, which is both unsanitary and unprofessional. I was shocked that something so visibly damaged was still placed in a guest room.

In addition, the stairwells and common areas were dirty, and trash was overflowing throughout the property. It gave the entire place a neglected and poorly managed feel.

This is not the experience I expected or paid for. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the cleanliness and quality control issues immediately. I will not be returning and don’t recommend this hotel.

Terrible communication with virtual check in

I booked this hotel because it is next door to where my cousin was staying and I wanted to be there for her wedding. I never even stayed in this place one night. They have a total virtual check in.I was never made aware of any check in process when i spoke to someone on the phone earlier in the day to let them know I would be arriving late. I got an email saying I will need a physical key and I would get information on retrieving it. They did not tell me how I would receive this information. I never received the information when arriving at 12 am in the morning there is no clerk no way to communicate and we had to find another place to stay.Upon our late arrival we spoke with a guest that also had issues with check in. I called and spoke with someone the following day and they put the blame on me and would not refund although I had all emails and texts they sent and none of it had any information that I needed to check in. They sent me the information a day later. I disputed the credit card charges and did receive my refund. I am glad now that we did not stay here. Being next door at my cousins place and seeing this place from above it did not look like a comfortable or well kept place to stay. The pool was very dirty looking. Definitely would not recommend this place. If they do not keep any clerks or anyone available who would you go to for any issues or anything you would need during a stay there? This hotels operations are inefficient and lack proper oversight.

Cheap and run down hotel; good location

Location is great; right on beach! Rooms were clean and we didn't see any bugs. Beds were comfortable. However, there was no deadbolt on the door. Room had no hangers at all and stairs up to room looked like they were about to rust through! There was no cleaning service at all during the stay. Shower was terrible! Pool was green and murky. I asked for a late check out and was told we could have one if I left a 5 star review on Google and sent them a screen shot. I declined since that is unethical. Overall, not a good experience.

Online check in was not so good. The room’s electronic keypad had dead batteries so I had to message check in group and get more instructions on how to enter the room. Once inside room was ok, A/C worked great! The pool at the property was in poor condition and was very dirty when we went to swim. We decided against it and waited for pool cleaning people to clean things up. There was no shade poolside and no umbrellas for tables. There were also broken pool chairs lying around on the pool deck area.

Pros: great location and easy access to beach. Hotel has warning that parking is limited, but we were able to park right at our room for both nights we stayed. Beds were decently comfortable. Appliances in room had cute retro vibe. Had DVR and good quality tv in room which was nice for the kids.

Cons: Not as clean as I was hoping for, but you get what you pay for. Found a few dead roaches around the room, but no signs of bedbugs or live bugs. No front desk so there are no workers on site, which lead to people being rowdy and partying at night. Never felt unsafe while I was there, but it was hard to sleep at night due to the noise. Pool was very dirty which was disappointing as I had kids excited to swim in it. The floor and sides of pool were slimy and green. No elevator access, so if you’re assigned to the 2nd or 3rd floor you have to climb at least 2 sets of stairs but they warn about that.

Overall, it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either. If I didn’t have the extra money to spend on something nicer next time we’re visiting then I could stay there again, but I’d prefer better.

Room was big and sparsely decorated but clean which was awesome; however, if you want to get some sleep, you’re better off to stay somewhere else. First it was the occupants around and above us slamming doors, arguing, and playing loud music. Next were the fireworks until the fire department arrived. Not to mention the barking dogs, and the next door neighbors TV blasting at full volume. Then finally, about 5am, it quieted down. There’s no staff at the hotel as it’s all virtual so if anything goes down, it’s the guest’s responsibility to contact authorities and try to get a hold of an employee. I’ve stayed here before when the front desk was staffed and the experience was great which is why I booked again. Unfortunately, this isn’t my jam and we won’t be back.

Swimming pool was the dirtiest hotel pool I've ever seen. NO maid service the entire time we were there (NO new towels, NO trash removal). Such a great location yet a miserable overall experience.

I am a frequent guest at this property, and I have always had a pleasant experience with the staff. However, my most recent stay was quite the opposite. I was next to a room with four dogs that barked almost throughout my stay, creating the atmosphere of a dog kennel. I contacted the property to express my concern, but they said there was nothing they could do for me—not even offer to change my room. To support my complaint, I included three audio recordings as evidence, so there was no question that my concerns were valid. Their only suggestion was to call law enforcement.

I believe there were numerous ways they could have addressed the situation, but they completely disregarded my issue. Although I do not expect to be treated differently from other guests, I do expect to be treated with respect, especially as a frequent visitor. I now question whether I will return to the property.

Don't ask for extra towels because you will not get them. Don't ask for anything after hours for no one is on the property to assist you with anything. I had to help several other customers find the janitors closet to get the keys to their rooms because their codes didn't work. Those are not listed properly. Just luckily I was outside the room at midnight and they approached me. NO ONE that works there SPEAKS ENGLISH if you call they hang up because they say don't understand. I complained about BUG activity and they reassured me there wasn't any.

The staff was extremely accommodating and communicated well. Our room had an awesome view, was clean, and looked nice. The only downs were the pool was not exceptionally clean(but could be from storms that week) and the fridge didn’t get super cold. Pros: Amazing location, nice prices. Room was nicely decorated, clean and simple. Loved being right next to the beach and the pool was a nice touch as well.

Cons: Had to reach out for my registration code an hour past check in time because I never received it, though the front desk was fast to respond to my message so it’s no biggie. There was no TV remote in the room and the volume was set super high, so we couldn’t use the TV. There’s also a big gap under the room door and sound comes right in, super easy to wake you up. Also no deadbolt on the door.

I loved how close to the ocean this was! The parking was fine. You can tell it’s an old motel that the owners have spit shined and done a great job. Some of the things were weird, the bathroom door had white tape all over like it was kicked in almost, the toilet paper roll was empty sitting in the holder, etc. but those are just small things that didn’t super impact the stay. The beds were super comfortable and the room was clean, that’s the biggest thing for me! I’m a stickler for that! The contactless check in was awesome, too! But the fact it was just a nice little place in the middle of all the chaos of the huge resorts is what sold it for us! Will stay here again when we make it back to Myrtle!

I requested earlier check in, but couldn’t check in until 4pm After waiting around for check in, the keypad on my unit’s door did not work at all. This resulted in me having to contact the property and go find a hard key. There’s no staff on site, and everything is remote which added to the inconvenience. The room was mid, and the bed squeaked with every movement. You get what you pay for I guess.

The motel was basic with no frills but very clean and suited me perfectly. I traveled with my 2 dogs and our accommodations were very good. The location was perfect - right off the beach with excellent areas to walk my pups. Check in was different than I’ve had at other motels/hotels. It was done via text. Love that it’s just steps away from the beach, and there’s a nice park right next door. The room appliances, furniture, TV and bathroom counter are all new. However, the AC smelled like mold, the tub had missing caulking, and the blackout curtains left so much light in we slept pretty poorly. However, we would totally stay again and just bring our travel Sleepout blackout curtains.

Upon arrival the door code provided by text msg didn't work so they changed it to their general code. The room was warm (it was 100 degrees out). There is no light switch until you fully enter the room. The drapes do not close fully and this was first floor a couple rooms from the outdoor pool. There were no hangers for the clothes rack. The furnishings are newer. However, as discovered after putting my food in the warm refrigerator (I turned it up)...the refrigerator didn't work (lost all the food I brought), the air conditioner ran continuously but did not cool (it was warm and stagnant). There is no front desk, all communications are via text. After a couple days, they brought the refrigerator from the room next door and installed a new air conditioner. They reset the door lock pad. I discovered later that the door now doesn't lock at all. Anyone walking by and noticing a green light on the lock will know it's not locked. I told them to bring something to close the curtains and they gave me 2 binder clips (I was going to go to a store to buy these). I was scheduled to be there until Saturday and I left on Thursday....2 more nights paid for but couldn't safely stay there. No refund was offered...in fact, they asked if I'd like to extend my stay! This is all unacceptable.

Mermaid Inn is definitely a great choice for that price. The location is great. Unfortunately you cannot see the ocean from level 1, not sure about the other levels but it is oceanfront. The rooms are very simple. They are older and a little rough around the edges but have been updated some. I would recommend it and would stay here again. We did have an issue with some flies but it was a short stay so we just dealt with it.

This place was awful. We didn’t even stay because of the conditions and they offered zero care or refund. There was a 1.5 inch gap on the bottom of the front door! Bugs and mice could get in zero problems. There was mice pee and poop behind the beds, stains on one of the beds comforter, disgusting vents and a broken front window. It is a health hazard do not stay. My daughter was with me and due to the sanitation and feeling unsafe we made other arrangements and are out the $320 they charged for us not staying. The communications the first day was horrific and rude. And they offered zero accountability on their part. Do not book this place. Oh and the pool was so cloudy it looked disgusting.

The only upside of this place is the location. Thats literally it. The rooms weren’t even attempted to be cleaned. Floors were filthy, white bed comforters were not clean, beds full of hair, and I’m almost positive this place has bed bugs. My daughter woke up with lines and clusters of bug bites down her legs. The shower was so nasty that we would only get in with flip flops on in order to rinse sand off. Nobody showered here. I had to use my own personal blanket and pillow then threw them away because I didn’t want to bring home bed bugs. The dang tv wasn’t even plugged in. My husband had to find the cord to it and put it both in the back of the tv and the wall. Pool was also disgusting. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone ever.

We had a hard time getting towels (we had 6 in the room). We ran out of TP had find someone to get it for us. No one cleaned our room in the 3 day we were there. The bathroom sink was clogged. The door to the bedroom wouldn’t close. They offered late check out for free if I gave them 5 stars but can’t lie. Use this hotel as a last resort.

2/10. We looked at the property online and the pics are nicer than the actual facility. Upon arriving it was raining, so we decided we'd watch some TV. Well the remote provided was not the correct remote for the tv. We messaged the email provided and called the number provided, no answer to either. The phone rang and rang and rang with no voicemail to leave a message. The linens on the bed were gross and snagged, torn up, and a bit dirty. Pillows provided were so uncomfortable. The next morning I drove and purchased all new blankets and pillows so my family could sleep comfortably, bc this property stated in the booking it was NON refundable, so no chance of cancelling and Booking somewhere else. . No one ever over the 3 night booking responded to a message. Night 2. Still no answer on a remote control. We didnt get to watch TV during our 3 night stay bc the TV wouldn't work without a remote. Clean towels were not replenished and we had to go buy some for our 3rd night (two adults and two children), as they took the dirty ones we left out asking for more and they just took the dirty ones. So we were left with zero towels. Very unpleasant experience to say the least.

We enjoyed our stay, however one thing that drove me crazy is they only had one mirror in the bathroom. Getting ready with several girls was hard for us, having to share the mirror and you couldnt step back and check our your outfit when done. The maintenance man was very nice and gave us extra towels and helped us get into the room. Great location and short walk to beach. The swimming pool could definitely use a upgrade and we had trouble with the tv/wifi all weekend but overall it wasnt a bad place. Extra points for being pet friendly and accommodating my ESA. Big room for the budget would stay here again if in the area.

Cute Location and Convenience

Enjoyed the comfort of our room and the location. The staff was good. The refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker was retro and looked adorable in the room I had. The only thing, is add a weather strip under the door, as the space between the floor and door was a little big. Also an extra security lock on the inside of the door. Otherwise check in was flawless and I would definitely stay again!

The location is very nice, but the parking situation was unclear and nobody from the virtual front desk answered the phone when I called several times. Beware, the door does not automatically lock as most do.

DONT STAY HERE!

Cockroach is in my room, won’t refund me. Tub was gross, ask for a plugger would give me one til morning. I check in 6pm and by 11pm I left because I wasn’t staying at this place.

Perfect beach getaway

This updated retro hotel was perfect for ourbeach visit with our dog. It was steps to the beach with a beachside pool. There is a sweet little park beachside with picnic tables, rocking chairs, benches. Flowers everywhere. The facilities to wash feet or shower were perfect. Just the perfect location. Lots of places were walking distance. Highly recommend.

I like the access convenience to the beach. Its a very quiet area which i look for that. I go to bed and rise early, thus a quiet area is a must. I am on the fence about the check in, as their is little to no staff. Its all done online which is a very smooth transaction, it's just strange to not see anyone in the office.

Disappointed Dog Days

The location couldn’t be beat. We chose this location because it allowed our dogs. We were the only ones in the building. We had the king bed with a couch which provided tons of room for beach chairs and other overpacked items.
The room smelled clean and had plenty of toiletries. There was only one washcloth, hand towel, and towel per person.
We tried to call to pay our pet fee at check in because there is no office personnel on site, just a number to call. No one answered.
On two different occasions, someone came into our room. There is no door latch, so if you don’t turn the lock (like the one on your bedroom door at home), your door doesn’t automatically lock. The cleaning people unlocked our door the second time.
The pool water wasn’t clean so we didn’t use it.
If pets weren’t part of your stay, I would choose a different place to stay.

Go for it!

Hidden gem. Perfect for a retiree on a budget. Quiet neighborhood across from a lovely park and direct beach access. Free parking. No resort fees. It checked all the boxes for me.
