Meeting up with lots of my relatives was great. Yes, the room was clean, but the kettle was not working for my early morning cup of tea (I didn't use it the previous evening)! The staff were efficient, sympathetic and friendly, but were unable to get a replacement kettle to me. Also, when I booked, I did say that I needed a gluten-free diet but the biscuits in the room were not gluten-free!
I consider that the cost for one night's stay was expensive, being the full price for two people in a double room. I was by myself and I feel that there should have been some reduction for single usage. (I should have asked for a second breakfast to take home with me!) If there is another family get-together in the future, in view of all the above, I will not book into The Playden Oasts Inn, unless, of course, it is at a much fairer price and/or I receive some compensation for my loss. Thank you.

Very old building, we stayed in the round room.
Spacious, comfy bed and lovely and cool if you have the door and window open (we were in a heatwave!! ) fan provided too.
Shower was a real let down, took forever to run through, had no umph whatsover.
The whole bathroom was quite \"tired\" and could do with a bit of work done to it.
The restaurant food was ok, but i can recommend the fish cafe in Rye, very nice!
Mixed reviews on breakfast, the cooked breakfast i had was a little on the crispy side, my husband ordered scrambled eggs and mushrooms and was told as it was brought out that there was no mushrooms. No offer of a replacement!
Also good to note that it is at the top of a long steep hill, that goes into rye. Ok if youre driving, but if you have mobility issues, definatley going to be an issue.

Worth a stay

Everything about our stay could not be faulted. Friendly reception on arrival. Told all we needed to know straight away and made to feel very welcome. Separate restaurants as we had our dogs with us and we were the only ones in ours but still were treated very attentively. Good varied menu with several specials on offer. Prices are reasonable and on par with others offering a similar service. Breakfast was a limited offering but still very good.
The character of the hotel is everything. It is an ultimately an old farm building after all and it is everything you would hope for. Modern where it needs to be but still retaining its heritage.

It’s different!

The main building of the hotel is made up of 2 Oast houses so on first impressions it’s easy to get excited. Unfortunately that’s where the positives really end. The bar and restaurant are located in the Oast houses and are tired and in need of modernisation.

The accommodation block looks as if it was built in the sixties and very little has changed or been done since then. The room was basic yet clean and comfortable although it’s difficult to understand the shower in a cupboard.

The food on offer was very much pub food and I would question how much was freshly produced on site. However the little restaurant was busy.

It’s very difficult to fault the Playden Oasts, it’s just all in need of being modernised and the silk flowers and other accoutrements removed.

The hotel was awful. Everything was old dusty and tatty. Was like some out of the 70’s. I was charged a lot for the room and given the amount this is the worst hotel experience I have had. Mouldy smell, barely there shower. Just terrible. Avoid.

Really lovely stay in this quiet little Oast House. We stayed in a round room, beautifully decorated with ensuite shower room. Tea and coffee and biscuits, TV in room. Plenty of drawers and cupboard space for clothes. Room clean and tidy.
Breakfast was lovely, and everyone was so friendly. We also had an excellent roast dinner on the Sunday. Just a short walk into Rye, which was a bonus. Would totally recommend it, and we hope to stay there again.

All the staff were friendly, helpful and clearly keen to ensure we enjoyed our stay.

We thought the cooked breakfast was very good (non-greasy) and ample for our needs, We also ate in the Restaurant on the three evenings of our stay and again enjoyed the choice of dinner selected from both the standard and specials menus available - steak pie and liver & bacon recommended!

We stayed in Room 4, one of the round Oust House rooms, which was delightfully quirky with a matching round bed. It was clean with rustic furnishings in keeping with the accommodation. The shower was not high pressure but perfectly adequate for our needs. Due to staff illness our room was not serviced on day 3 but fresh towels were supplied by Andy so not really a major issue.

Given the time of year occupancy levels were extremely low so understandably the room heating was only turned on when we arrived. But, given the nature of the building, the room felt a little damp and subsequently suffered from high levels of condensation throughout our stay. Doubt if this would be a problem in other rooms not forming part of the Oust towers or during warmer times.

This is a small Hotel and never the less well worth a visit,

Quirky , in a good way.

We stayed at The Playden Oast in for one night during our road trip to Kent.
We payed a little extra and stayed in one of the Oast Towers.
As expected the room way round, the bed matched the room.
All facilities where very clean and the free standing bath was an unexpected bonus.
Car parking and wi-fi where good and we enjoyed a good meal in the evening.
Recommended if you are looking for something different.

We enjoyed our stay at Playden Oasts Inn. The room was clean and had everything we needed. Breakfasts were good. An added bonus is the hotel is dog friendly and we had a room with a little private garden and there was a separate restaurant that was dog friendly for us to have breakfast and an evening meal. Would recommend.

A restless rest

We stayed for 2 nights. The first night we had to endure the neighbourhood karaoke party (no fault of the hotel) the second night was a windy one & it was difficult to sleep from the incessant rumblings from the loft which I assume were the old cowl workings. Our room was quirky but the free standing bath/shower was uncomfortable to use, bathing became a chore. The worst aspect was the stingy breakfast, one egg one rasher of bacon one slice of toast.
all in all a disappointing experience.

Turned up and checked in only to be moved due to having a dog when specifically searched for pet friendly, instantly made to feel we might have to go home then we effectivley got downgraded. Room wasnt as nice, chocolate wrapper(poisonous to dogs) left in room. Was very small for the price we paid for the night. Who paints tiles especially in a shower? Here. Tiny. extractor not working so humidity would be high if it wasnt for the worst shower ever. Walls so thin you can hear the neighbours. Breakfast and dinner was a nightmare, get seperated due to dog again but nothings ever setup, they would know we are at least doing breakfast. If you like gritty susages and hard fried eggs youll love it here, if not, not so much. So much poteential sadly missed. It was a quiet area and a public footpath with mapped route just down the road

But unfortunately the room was stark , not very clean, very old worn furniture ( which should have been thrown out ):.
Bed very worn and extremely uncomfortable, bathroom m door doesn’t shut properly or lock
Extension lead use'd for lamp by side of bed (not very safe)
Plug sockets on wall so dirty I didn’t want to put my charger in it , strong smell of mould coming from empty store room next door
Breakfast was ok.
Such a shame as this could be an amazing hotel with just a little imagination and finishing touches
Wouldn’t go again especially as I paid for the expensive room and certainly wasn’t worth it at all

Very nice property that is a converted oast house so you have the circular rooms that are the restaruant areas. Old creaky stairs etc make this hotel have a pleasant atmosphere. Well worth a try for somewhere different. Good rooms and facilities. Very helpful friendly staff.

Having read prevous reviews we arrived with open minds. Many of the critical comments made in the last couple of years seem to have been addressed. E.g. the car park, the gardens and the decor. We arrived an hour before the advertised check in time which was not even mentioned as we shown to our roundel room. The room was very clean and the decoration fresh. The bed was large and comfortable and smelt fresh.
We enjoyed our evening meal but found the drinks a little expensive, maybe that's the going rate for this area.
Breakfast was plentiful and our cooked breakfast hot. Although we were confused that several people requested scrambled egg and were told they couldn't do them as they were short on milk and awaiting a delivery. As we didn't have cereal we donated ours!
The only thing we feel worth mentioning is that the roundel really could do with some nets at the windows as there was no privacy unless we closed the slightly too small blind and the curtains.

Took my partner to stay for her birthday as part of a couple of days in Rye.

The rooms were a decent size and the bed was much softer than I'm used to but really comfortable, there was a small but very modern bathroom with an decent sized bath which my partner appreciated. I imagine Oast Houses are listed, so while there was a worry about it getting too hot at night due to no air con, the room was airy and comfortable, the even supply a large fan should you need it.

The building itself is magnificent, one of the few Oast Houses open to the public, was great to see part of the Kent/Sussex heritage close up.

The food for both dinner and breakfast was great, good options for vegi/pescatarians, the service at dinner was great given it was the manager and the kitchen staff only, and it has an open to the public bar, and she was also checking in guests, and the food was delicious. Likewise the breakfast was high quality and quick service, very pleased with it. The bar is small but has plenty of options including local ales and there's a great little garden to sit in and watch the house martins dashing about in the evening sun.

It's located a mile out of central Rye, so it's very handy for town (up a hill all the way from the centre, it's paved though) and the hotel supply a load of taxi companies in case you don't want to tackle the hills or are going further afield.

Overall, a place unique to the region and having a cozy, welcoming feel to it with good food. Recommended.

The staff where all very friendly, the owner is a little to vocal infront of customers though, some things should be said in private. Easy parking. Can eat there too although we didnt apart from breakfast that was included. Great location for getting into town.

We stayed in the roundel room which was very good, unfortunately it was the hottest day of the year and no air conditioning but we were provided with a fan.
The only downside I would say was the small size of the shower cubicle, because it was a struggle to shower without moving/altering the temperature/flow controls and for a larger person it would be impossible (maybe they could be moved to a less obtrusive place?)
Food was reasonable , but drinks from the bar were a bit expensive.

We needed rooms for one night and needed to bring our dog. This was fairly priced for the area and they provided downstairs rooms that allowed us to bring our dog. This looks pretty outside and it provided what we required for an overnight stay. However, interiors are dated and the breakfast menu could be revamped for an improved impression.

stayed in the annexe which was very disappointing. Decor was basic, condition of facilities not very good, basin was in the bedroom not in the shower room. Directly overlooked by the main house so could not open the curtains until dressed in the morning. Breakfast and dinner were good on both days, although not much fresh fruit at breakfast. Staff were friendly. Location was ok but just a little too far to walk into Rye and back on a winter's evening.

A visit to Rye

A very warm welcome. The location is just outside of Rye, you could walk in but it’s just a 5 minute drive. The oasts have a long history and are distinctive. The bar is open most days and serve food at lunch and at dinner. Breakfasts are good, served to order with quality produce.

Historical grade 2 listed building with bags of character. Tastefully restored and in a great location for surrounding areas. Excellent hosts and food with some great local beers.
Slight negative on local evening public transport (very limited) and some external lighting at night which found its way in through insufficient curtaining.
Would still recommend for the other reasons mentioned.

We booked in for two nights and paid 100 pounds per night the room was little more than a prefab . The carpet smelt of dogs and the tiny shower was a cupboard . I know this was only a standard room but we decided to leave and lose 200 pounds than to stay there . This was the worse room we ever almost stayed in .

Ideal base to explore area, Rye is very close and lots of visitor attractions within the area, such as Battle, Hastings, Tenterden, Kent & East Sussex Railway, Bodiam Castle etc.

Well located on the edge of Rye, with good accommodation and excellent food and drink and a friendly staff , which all made for a relaxing few days stay.

Comfortable and well located

We booked a single night for a mini break to the area. Hotel is easy to find, plenty of parking. 5 minutes drive into Rye, 10 minutes to the Camber Sands beaches. Rood comfortable with Juliet balcony overlooking the garden, double bed, tea making kit, biscuits and bottles of water a nice touch. Large modern TV. Restaurant is a strong point - menu is relatively simple but well executed and tasty we had lamb shanks / steak & kidney pudding / baked plaice / prawn tempura / Eton Mess. Would definitely come back again for a longer stay.

Pleasant hotel about a mile away from Rye.

Enjoyed our 3 night stay. Staff friendly and our room was comfortable.
