Ideal single room for the solo traveller. Comfy bed, clean room and bathroom. The bathroom was small and the shower is snug which may not be ideal for a larger guest but well stocked wirh shampoo, shower gel etc. Some noise can be heard from outside and downstairs etc but no more than any other place I have stayed in really. On both this and my previous stay I have been in rooms on the road side so it would be nice to see what it is like on the other side away from the road as you can hear the cars going by. Toilet flush is noisy as it is a macerator system but i knew this from my last stay and it didnt seem as bad as the twin room I stayed in before. Nicely decorated character building with friendly staff and good food. I preferred this single room than the twin room my partner and I stayed in before.

Nice pub/hotel. The food was acceptable but I was not happy with the liver and bacon dish I ordered - the liver had the texture of 'vulcanised rubber' and the cook added far too much salt as was done on my breakfast dish.

Accomodation was comfortable in a traditional old pub building with narrow steep stairs. Room had a good bed and both bedroom and bathroom were modern and clean.
Breakfast was excellent.
Pub meals in the evening , again, were excellent with large portions, a wide menu variety and were very nice.

Excellent Inn. I stayed on my way over to Calais. I had the Single room. Very need and tidy. Recently updated room I’d say. Excellent bed and neat bathroom. I really liked the old charm of the building, nice little doors to the rooms. Very nice bar downstairs with lots of nice places to sit inside and outside. Pleasant atmosphere all round. The breakfast is fantastic and likewise the staff are wonderful.

Great hotel in new romney perfect base to get around my room was perfect comfortable bed tea and coffee and a bottle of water waiting for me in my room lovely and warm specially with it being cold outside shower was great and the tv reception was amazing with everything you would want to watch tne pub was great also with a friendly atmosphere the breakfast was brilliant all cooked perfectly by pete the manager i will definitely be staying again so if anyone is looking to stay in the area then stay here its the perfect place to visit this area of Kent

I always stay here when I visit family. I think it's under new management and there has been some upgrading in the rooms, I noticed new bed, kettle and toilet amongst others. The staff are always friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

Very basic room. Bathroom didn’t seem to have been cleaned before my arrival. There was a ‘nugget’ in the toilet when I arrived. In fairness to the last person who stayed there, the flush was awful as it is an old building. However, I expect someone to come in and check the room and clean the bathroom before my arrival. I avoided using the shower due to this.

The tv remote was absolutely filthy and when I did turn the tv on (after wiping the remote with anti-bac) it was last on an adult channel.

The window had a big gap in the top of it and unfortunately the room was right outside a bus stop, so it was very noisy. I also woke up in the middle of the night to youths shouting and swearing in the street.

I didn’t stay for breakfast but the pub downstairs did seem nice.

Personally, I would not recommend.

The ship Hotel has the warmest friendliest staff that we have had the pleasure of meeting for a long time even the dinosaur we came across at breakfast gave us a roar .
The breakfast was great a good selection and steak Friday was a goody deal Sunday dinners 2 courses for £17 excellent.

Nice place to stay in the middle of New Romney. Stayed last year and pleased to see the owners have updated many of the rooms. On the day of arrival the WiFi was poor, but with a newly fitted system overnight the new set up was excellent. Breakfast was really good and will definitely stay again.

We had a 3 night stay for a short break. We had Room 4 which was small and on the A259 so there was traffic noise. If we stayed again, we would ask for a rear bedroom. Also we felt a good mirror above the hand basin in the small en suite was needed.

The bed was comfortable, the staff were helpful and friendly and the food was good. The bar area was nice with a few separate areas to sit plus a courtyard area. The hotel was also nicely located if you wanted to take a stroll and eat out.

Our main gripe was the hoovering and floor washing while we were having breakfast on the first morning. The second morning was fine but on the last day it seemed a bit unprofessional with staff chatting, playing with a member of staff's toddler and dog just outside the dining area.

It was a lovely hotel. The staff were very attentive and helpful, particularly the gentleman who served breakfast. He made sure we were given what we asked for. The building is very old, with narrow stairs, so might not suit someone with more limited mobility. Also, I don't think there was free wi-fi, contrary to what it said on the booking. However, I would definitely stay there again.

The room was tiny. 1/6th of floor space taken up with an enormous built in wardrobe. Because of the slope of the roof, I couldn’t stand up to go to the toilet, for the same reason the shower was impossible to use and it wasn’t possible to sit up in the bed. The bedroom overlooks a busy road. I guess the room price reflects some of this.

I was asked when i wanted breakfast so I asked for 7am as i had business in Croydon to attend to first thing.
I went down for 7am but the restaurant was closed!! And was not manned till 7:20.

the person manning breakfast had a list and the first breakfast was 7:30

This was good value in comparison to prices elsewhere and included breakfast. I took a single room and bed was comfortable and linen etc very clean. Staff very friendly. I have to go back to the area and would definitely stay there again. The menu was good as was the food .Very reasonable deal! Traffic a bit noisy in the morning as on a main road .

Bedroom outdated, Wardrobe Doors stuck. Bathroom Shower hardly worked at all, water luke warm, except Sink where the hot water was scalding, very dangerous.
Evening Meal... 3 dishes off the Menu, plus Cheesboard Biscuits were stale, so that was off the Menu as well.
At Breakfast, a leak from a Bedroom Shower was dripping onto a Breakfast Dining Table. over all would not stay there again.

Disappointing Hotel Stay

We recently stayed at the Ship Hotel for a two night stay and stayed in Room 1 which was a twin room and small. The en-suite was very small and the shower was broken and water pressure was abysmal. The immersion water tank in the room kicked in very noisily every two hours throughout the night. Moved to Room 8 the next morning which was larger bed the double bed wasn’t comfortable and the shower water pressure was absolutely ridiculous. The stay was not enjoyable and very disappointing so unable to recommend

Rooms a bit tired

Booked twin room. End of bed very tight against bathroom door. Decor tired - peeling paint on window frames and sills. No fresh toilet paper left. Lock on door faulty - we were locked in for a while and initial reaction of staff was poor. When Lucy got involved she dealt with our issues quickly and professionally, and we were upgraded to a king bedroom as the lock couldn't be repaired. This was much better, although the decor still tired and windows need repairing.
Breakfast on first morning took forever to arrive - tasty when it did come - and having been offered choice of white or brown toast and chosen white for me and brown for my wife, eventually 2 slices of brown arrived. After 5 mins I asked where my toast was and was told we'd already had it. When I pointed out that we'd only received 2 slices of brown the waitress shrugged and said they didn't have any white! Not impressed. Breakfast on the Sat morning much better organised and again very tasty.
Overall the stay was ok, but I wouldn't rush back

This is a lovely 15th century inn. The dinner and breakfast we had there was very good, the room was fine, although quite small. However it was disappointing to be asked to leave the bar area and go to ours rooms at 11pm. The slightly spoilt our stay with friends. We could hear the staff taking negatively about us, which didn’t help. The ‘hotel’ has no communal area except the bar. This should be very clear in the information on their web site and also Hotels. Com site.

Check-in fine. Room small but bed comfortable and plenty of high-pressure hot water in shower (once I had fixed the shower head). However room was not very clean (see photos). Dinner not bad, though inexperienced waiter took my place away without asking if I’d finished. Had to ask twice for dessert menu. Room was accessed along a corridor which had a height restriction: I managed to get through this 5 times without mishap, but the 6th time, when I was distracted by a text message, I cracked my head against the lintel, causing (thankfully mild) whiplash. Corridor should have warnings, and ideally some padding on the lintel to prevent a repetition of this. All these negatives balanced by excellent service at breakfast where the staff member was extremely helpful in getting me some food before the advertised meal starting time (I had to leave early!)

Had to ask for for bread/toast and for another cup of coffee. Didn't like the fact we weren't offered and had to keep asking.

Being right on top of the road, and near traffic lights, it was extremely noisy. On a hot day the very small room became uncomfortably hot, especially with the tiny window closed. Too hot &/or too noisy meant sleep was difficult.
The very low door in the passage outside needs a clear warning notice on both sides - and some padding. I was almost knocked out. It is a health & safety hazard!
