The hotel staff are friendly, cheerful and helpful. The rooms are clean and well equipped. Breakfast was very good with a large choice to suit all tastes.
The nearby nightlife goes on well into the early hours and can be very disturbing if you don’t want to be part of it!

The location is great, a few minutes walk to the beach, restaurants and bars. However it is loud at night. I used ear plugs and white noise and was able to sleep, however during on peak months I can imagine it is very loud, but perfect hotel if you do want to go out and enjoy the night life

Never used the Spa and it was still a bit chilly in February to go swimming, although the pool looked great. Room was lovely with safe, coffee machine & balcony. There was a hairdryer, steam iron, slippers & dressing gown in the room too. Reception staff were fantastic and the issue with the sink plug was promptly dealt with. They also helped arrange a tour for us, contacted our shuttle service & even provided us with take-away breakfast as we had an early flight.

Lovely clean hotel, close to the beach and centre of old town. Yara Costa and other staff at the hotel were wonderful and so pleasant. Only thing I would say is that if you’re a light sleeper then this isn’t a hotel for you, the bars are quite loud and until early hours of the morning. But the hotel can not be faulted, very clean and a comfortable.

On arrival we asked to upgrade our room. The staff went above and beyond to arrange this swiftly, even though the hotel was really busy We changed rooms the following day. The staff are very welcoming and accommodating. Its a lively area so its not for people that want quiet nights. My partner and i absolutely loved it and plan to come back next year

Absolutely fantastic hotel location is absolutely perfect in middle of eveything. Rooms was beautiful and clean breakfasts was more continental but beautiful and filled you for the day. All staff members so friendly and helpful. Pool freezing cold but again nice to cool of in for a few seconds. Over all fantastic location, food, staff and for it being right on the strip always felt secure with the key cards to use lifts and enter door. Cant not wait to return x

Definitely will not be returning! There was a huge roach in my room! The bathroom shower was horribly built! Water all over once you take a shower!

They only give 1 bathroom floor mat and it'll be soaking wet until they change the next day!

Service was terrible, needed a fork and was told I had to take 2 elevators to ask the restaurant to borrow one!

Lovely Room but if you’re unfortunate enough to be on the bar side of the street it’s truly too loud to sleep. Music from the bars went until 4:00 am. Unless you have a guaranteed room on the d castle side I would not recommend this location

The hotel was ok. I went on my honeymoon here and unfortunately back to back days found large roaches in our room. To say the least, we didn’t fully enjoy the stay. Thankfully we stayed elsewhere for the majority of our honeymoon. We stayed at other hotels in the area and they didn’t seem to have this problem. Other than that the staff was so friendly and location was great. Definitely get a room facing the pool to avoid the noise. Best part was the pool and pool service. Overall it was okay.

First look was all good reception lady was very nice i had paid extra for balcony and pool view well on entering the room all looked good very clean very small room then i opened my curtains to find frosted doors no view ! and you need all the lights on as it was so dark also a tiny half length hanging cupboard no shelves as the safe was on it so had to live out of my case for a week i did go to reception the next day as i had booked two rooms next to each other that was the same the balconys was directly on to the pool you cauldnt use them for two kids running in and out of them and people sitting on your wall to your balcony round the pool. When i complained and asked to move i was told quite sharply that i had got what i paid for and no other rooms left ? So i asked if i can have a hanging rail but it never appeared!!! Also the pool was dirty it got worse over the week so i didnt use it shame it looked nice at the start ? But i must say the breakfast staff was great big shout out for them ! At reception i was told that they would try and get some money off for me but didnt hear a word after that day so if you get rooms on the 6 floor beware the rooms are dark no view and no hanging space for two in room 601 ,602 had a bit more but they are very dark and dont use the pool if it looks murky !!!!!!

The hotel is lovely and recently renovated. The staff were nice and accommodating. It is very important to understand that this hotel is located directly on the Main Street of old town. It is extremely noisy. Also, our room was a bit weird, as there was no door to the shower.

We stayed here for 4 nights and our stay was great. The staff on reception were so friendly and helpful and greeted us every time with a smile and hello as we were on the same floor.
The staff at breakfast and at the bar were also friendly and welcoming.
Our room was great with a balcony over looking the pool.
The spa treatments were great and value for money was amazing.
The only thing to comment on which wasn’t too big an issue was the ‘gym’. An outside area with machines which were weathered and not your usual expectation of a gym.
There were lots of reviews commenting about the noise but yeah it was noisy when our balcony door was open but not enough to interrupt our sleep or put us off our stay.

Great hotel for location and great facilities with great people that work there.

We did not expect that Albufeira would be such a party town. We booked this hotel on the location and modern look of the hotel. It has a very unusual layout. Built on the hill so they have two elevators” that connect over two floors. You will need to “find” the lower entrance to the hotel amongst the revellers.
You need earplugs that the hotel provides to sleep. It is in the middle of all the partying. Be prepared for shouting and loud speakers going on into mid early morning!!
Staff were very nice and helpful. Parking far away which the staff direct people to. Safe to park outside for us on the street but it was a walk. It’s a very hilly place however.
Nice property but location was not for us. Great if you want to party all night and stumble home.

Was a hidden gem in Albufeira. Was a great location, close to the beach. Conveniently, lower levels were connected to nightlife, while upper levels were well above the streets. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were cleaned thoroughly and daily. Were given a discount in the spa services. Overall would recommended for casual travelers exploring all of Algarve or want a beach getaway.

Awesome location! The Hotel is modern and very well kept. The staff is off the hook. Unbelievable dining options as well as shopping. If you noticed that I didn’t check quiet is because it is right in the heart of the Night Life. I’m sure that they have rooms on the back that might be quieter. We had an awesome room on the 8th floor that overlooked the pool and the bright beautiful lights of the Avenida.I will definitely be back next year!

Parking was extremely difficult, we had to drive a few circles to just get a chance to unload stuff as there’s no parking options and drivers behind just rudely harass us to drive on. We arrived 3am and almost couldn’t check in due to parking situation. Front desk person only allowed us to use the parking area in the front (at 3am) after we were so frustrated and decided to leave and not check into the hotel. Will not book this hotel again due to their location and inconvenient parking situation. Also there was no VIP room upgrade as I supposed to get according to the booking agency. The room we got was very inconveniently located, we had to take elevator from 8 to 6, then walk through a passage, take another elevator from 6 to 4, walk a long passage to reach a room that you can see a super dirty rooftop outside of the window. Overall this is the wordy hotel experience I’ve ever had after traveling to many countries many locations. Can’t be more disappointed.

This was our first time we stayed in the hotel and it certainly did not disappoint. From check in to check out, our experience was excellent. From funky rooms to the DJ playing by the pool in the afternoon, it really was brilliant. Although located in the centre of the old town and near the night life, the rooms are so well sound proofed we really didn’t hear much of the noise.
Nice spa but small.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and can’t wait to stay again

We fully enjoyed our stay here. The breakfast every morning was phenomenal, the staff all very friendly and accommodating. Location was so convenient, you can come right out onto the street and there’s a convenience store steps from the entrance! The gym is quite minimal, so we went to the Marina du Albufeira and got a week’s pass at the Luxury Fitness there. The pillows are a bit on the small/soft side, but I’m sure they would have given us extras had we asked (we were always just so tired when we got back to the room!) We also found the room quite soundproof, despite being so close to the busy street and pool.

An amazing hotel and location .. The hotel is literally in the middle of the busy strip.. but you can choose to or not have busy or chilled days and evenings. Hotel room was clean and up to date too, staff very friendly.
The pool area is amazing and the beds are so comfortable and it’s great that there is no bed reserving too. So it was easy to get a bed any time of the day really.
Portugal is amazing and the Portuguese are so friendly too. Well recommend :-)

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a week and it’s fair to say we both fell in love with the place and albufeira itself. The staff at the hotel were so friendly, polite and talkative, very informative when telling us about the hotel. The facilities were amazing, although we were slightly disappointed with the space in the toilet, not enough space to move and not much privacy either (might be because of the size room we had) but apart from that, we can’t fault the hotel at all. The pool area was our favourite part, very clean, staff were attentive, relaxing and quiet area, same with breakfast, lots of options for everybody, the staff at the bar were always checking on us and asking if we wanted more drinks etc. We sat on our balcony at night to listen to the night life so we didn’t get caught up in the business of old town and even that was a nice experience, being able to relax and listen to the music. Overall, Hotel Califórnia is in such a nice location, right next to Old Town and everything is pretty much in walking distance. We’ll definitely be returning next year

This property is the least bit cooperative in terms of accomadations to start. The rooms are a 4x4 cubical box - they say you can fit two people in a room but that doesn’t consider luggage space. In addition the rooms have the air conditioner above your head so when it’s turned on your freezing and when it’s off you’re burning hot really no in between. Only option is to freeze and get sick. I would only come back here if there was a so no other option.

door or meaningful separation existed between the bathroom, shower area and the rest of the room. Bed was a mattress on a veryn low platform. Very difficult to get in and out of. Bathroom was a complete joke. No where to place even a small toiletry bag because there were no counters near the very small bathroom sink. You will have to pay me to ever stay there again.

We were shocked when we arrived at this hotel. The hotel looks nothing like its photos. It’s dirty, smoky, and loud. It states that it’s not non-smoking, but the rooms have ashtrays and they smell of smoke.
The rooms sound like you’re in a boom box.
When we expressed our concerns and checked out, within an hour, Balram said we could have a refund. Then Hugo, the manager, decided to ghost us and Orbitz.
So, they grossly misrepresented their hotel and then provide zero customer service and made zero efforts to make the customers satisfied.
I would strongly discourage you from visiting this hotel.

The hotel was lovely in itself. Great pool, friendly bar staff.

Had a bad situation with check-in. We arrived at 15:00 and we were told the room wasn't ready.

The room wasn't available until 15:20. It appeared obvious why the room wasn't ready. After letting myself in, we saw it had a bucket of paint and a drill on the floor. I had to go back to reception and they put me and my girlfriend in a new room.

The situation was resolved, but from the hotels perspective it must be pretty embarrassing.

On our 2nd day we wanted to use the spa facilities. We were downstairs on Floor 2 for 15 minutes and no staff came to the desk. We left.

This aside, the pool was lovely and the bar staff were attentive and friendly.

I'd seen the reviews & knew it could be noisey but I didn't expect it to be so bad. Our room was fifth floor, above bar street & it was bouncing from 1700 til 0500. We slept fine though & didn't bother to ask for a move. The toilet and shower were actually within the room & the only privacy was behind a glass screen.We killed 4 cockroaches in the room during our last 2 nights. The bed was massive and very comfortable.

Wonderful modern hotel. Had a room facing the pool and a package that included breakfast. I recommend both. Great modern music at the pool. It is walking distance to many bars, restaurants, shops, and the beach. The bars are loud at night and the noise may impact you, but we were able to sleep through it by our second night.

Not bad…

Meh. Room was clean. Pool area has seen better days. Breakfast was good; staff friendly. Not bad for the price I guess.

Lovely but Noisy

Staff was fantastic. The raparigas were kind and helpful. I probably wouldn’t have booked this hotel if I had known how noisy it was. You will definitely need ear plugs. I wish hotels would disclose noise levels on hotels.com so use users can make a more informed decion. Loud vibrating, music goes on until 4 am. every night. They do provide earplugs though. A nice, fantastic hotel for those who don’t care about noise.

Loud Partying from nearby establishments into the early morning. No visibility to the beach.

Its enterance opens to most vibrant street and with its pool, this place is a winner. Highly recommended..

The hotel was in the middle of all the action. The rooms were small but cute and comfortable. The room had a mini refrigerator which was nice. The pool was like a resort. The drinks at the pool were priced like all the restaurants. Parking was the only issue. It was easy to find but 24 euros a day and cash only. We also found that a lot of the restaurants were cash only too.
