This bright apartment complex is situated on a hill in a central area of the tourist resort in Puerto del Carmen, one of the most important tourist areas of Lanzarote. The complex is separated from the beach only by a street.

Extremely near the resort is the shopping area with boutiques, bars and restaurants. The outdoor complex includes a fresh-water pool with children's area, which both are heated in winter.

Please be aware of one important fact at this hotel. On Expedia website it does not give clear pictures of the fact that you will likely be staying at an attached nearby hotel NOT the historic hotel which you think you are staying at when you book this hotel based on photos and advertising. Their pictures show main historic hotel while they put you in a high rise next door caller their \"tower\" rooms which we were not aware of because again no full advertising. The rooms in the \"tower\" are very mediocre and not worth the money you are paying for a higher end hotel pictured on Expedia (the main building). You can get a high rise hotel for a fraction of the price nearby so be aware that you are most likely staying in nearby addition. Also in the new addition there are no locks for the bathroom so if you care about your privacy then this is a concern. Also be aware there are doors in every room to room in tower that can be useful if you are booking 2 rooms and need to connect them...however if you don't then you will be stuck with someones next door who will be loud as these doors let in a lot of noise to the next room. You will feel like people are talking in your room which was very difficult to sleep during the night. We decided to leave to a nearby hotel for fraction of price ad advertising was for a wrong hotel but Expedia did not want to help much and stilk charged us for 1 nights stay.

The Moana is the best! You’ve got the best of all options: historic and charming building in the heart of Waikiki beach life! The banyan tree patio is perfect for unwinding, listening to local musicians and taking in the sunset. The veranda/beach house restaurant and bar also take in all the great views with excellent service and food. Our room was spotless, the service was prompt and attentive, and the amenities exceeded our expectations—especially the direct beach access. The hotel is one of the very few in Waikiki that offers such charm, character, and rich history.

We had a partial ocean view room & we could hear the bar down the street every single night until 2am. It was unbearable & while the staff was very nice, the manager did not accommodate or help change anything, even after speaking to staff about it multiple times. They told me if we wanted to change rooms, we have to pay a higher price for another room in a different location. That part was a major downfall, but otherwise other than the noise, everything was great!

We were so excited to experience the Moana. From walking past it several years ago, it appeared elegant and timeless - looks can be deceiving. We stayed in the historic section. The rooms were small and dark. Cheap small towels. The food choices were terrible. The pool was an after thought. The color palette for the hallways and lobby was dismal. Our room smelled like a creepy old historic church. The staff were friendly. Watersbf location nice. Definitely not feeling the love of details at this resort. Skip it. Not worth it.

From the very first time we pulled in the valet was right there waiting for us. They took care of our luggage. Check-in was very simple. We stayed in the older part of the hotel, which was small, but very cozy and very clean. The staff works tirelessly to keep the place in spotless condition when you walk down to the lobby you’re met with the beautiful Hawaiian breeze on the other side of the street and the ocean the restaurant is delicious. The bar food is absolutely out of this world. Everything about this place was magnificent and I would definitely recommend it for anybody. It’s very close to shopping as well so many things to do and see at this hotel alone.

The location is great, right on the beach, the hotel in general is very nice, rooms were nice, live music was great, food was average+ (decent, nothing special). A few notes;
1: Be careful about booking a 'partial' ocean view room - we asked to be moved because the first room was back towards the street and you couldn't see any ocean without putting yourself in the very corner of the lanai, where you could see a sliver of the water. Our second room was great, more towards the beach.
2: Unless you are in a high tier with Westin, basic beach item are not free (they wanted $25 a day for a beach chair that costs $50 at most retailers).

We would stay there again for sure.

Best hotel on Oahu. Love the hotels history and hope that Marriott looks out for preserving this wonderful magical place and not just about the bottom line. I felt that it was a bit overrun and that it was hard for the staff to keep up - especially the courtyard area out back. The staff was very friendly and did all they could to make our stay memorable.

The only warning I would make is that if you get a room on the city side, there were street “acts” every night across the street that drew and engaged a crowd with chants, cheers, etc so it sounded like a rave concert outside our window until quite late every night. Big drawback.

I am from Oahu and have been wanting to stay at the Surfrider since I was a little girl. I return for a visit once yearly, and this time decided to stay at the Surfrider and upgraded to a king with an ocean view in the historic wing. Staff was nice on check in, but we were given, I believe, the worst “ocean view” room in the historic wing. All of the rooms in the historic wing have big windows, but we were given a room with two tiny windows that did not open. You have to walk all the way up to the windows to even see outside, and barely have an ocean view. Since the windows do not open, you have to use a/c, and the unit was leaking, causing a big puddle in the middle of the room. I asked if we could be moved somewhere you could actually see the ocean/open the window for trade winds, and for a room that did not have a big puddle from the a/c leak. I was told that would be an upgrade/cost more, so I was *downgraded* to a partial ocean view *for the same cost.*

During my stay, I used valet twice, and the rest of the trip parked in the Sheraton garage (also a Marriott property and labeled to be for Surfrider guests) since it was halfway between our hotel and our friends hotel. On checkout, I was charged for valet every night. When I very nicely asked the incorrect charges be removed, I was challenged by front desk staff (in a very rude tone) and asked to prove that I parked somewhere else. This, even though I never signed a contract for daily valet.

The beach in front of the hotel is great for swimming. We were able to rent beach umbrellas and chairs from the beach services company right next to the hotel. We usually rented in the morning, they often sold out by the afternoon. Bring swim shoes for the beach, it had some rocks.

The breakfast buffet is excellent, it has an omelette station, and fresh made-to-order waffles and pancakes. The seating has a view of the beach.

We stayed over New Year’s Eve, the hotel threw a nice party with a DJ. We had a great view of the fireworks from the hotel property.

Every interaction with hotel staff was excellent. Overall a great vacation at a historic property.

The tower room was well designed, attractive, clean and spacious. The balcony had two comfortable chairs with a view of the sea and rooftops.

The staff on check in were helpful and friendly. That efficiency was marred by a clumsy notification process as I'd been told I would receive and email when the room was ready. I don't have international roamaing on my phone but hooking into the WIFI was easy. No email came. A rude person at the desk informed me they don't email and never do and that the room was ready. - at 3pm.
Overall the arhcitecture and history are impressive but after stayiing here 3 times over the same number of decades I have decided much of the charm is lost. There are too many people roaming around the hotel. In a 7 days stay, not once was I able to get a lounge by the pool and it was always filled with children. Far from the adult experience I imagined.
The food overall seems to be reheated and unhealthy. The catch of the day is served with vegetables and seemed to be the healthiest dish on the menu in the Beach Bar. The Surfrider poolside cafe was useful for some dishes to take back to the room like an Acai Bowl or a donut.

Overall the charm is still part of the buidlings DNA but modern day people seem clueless as to how maintain the standard of the past with dignity.

So my only real requirement when booking originally was that it was on the sand and water. I wanted to be able to walk from hotel right to the beach. This place offers that and so much more. Friendly staff and we stayed in the new renovated tower with ocean view. Our room was super clean and we sat on the water it was great.

The hotel itself offers a lot of history that we found out while staying there. Originally from 1901 so still had that old school feel when in the lobby and main part.

We will definitely stay here again next time in town.

We enjoyed the direct access to the beach. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Front desk staff very welcoming. We did the afternoon tea and would like to suggest to use a prettier tea kettle to make the experience feel more fancy. Little details I think really matters. Moana Surfrider: A Dreamlike Stay with a Few Budget Notes
Staying at the Moana Surfrider felt like stepping into a dream. The hotel is stunning—elegant, pristine, and peaceful. Every detail, from the professionalism of the staff to the serene atmosphere, exceeded my hopes. It’s the kind of place that wraps you in beauty and calm, and I truly can’t imagine staying anywhere else.

That said, for future guests: be aware of a couple of daily charges that aren’t always front and center. There’s a $45 daily hotel fee for amenities, and valet parking is $65 per day with no self-parking option. Valet is available 24/7, but plan for a 10–20 minute wait when retrieving your car.

These costs were within our budget and didn’t detract from the experience, but they could be surprising if you’re not expecting them. I share this not as a complaint, but as a heads-up—because this place is worth every moment, and I’d return in a heartbeat.

There were no king size beds available upon arrival so my partner and I had to sleep in separate beds. Which sucks for a romantic weekend. The pool and bar were over crowded. There were birds constantly by the pool area eating food from the ground. Means and food were extremely overpriced and charged a resort fee of $150 in addition to the $2k we already paid. Would not recommend. Will be my first and last time in Hawaii

Great location and good common areas but bedrooms are dated. Surface mounted metal conduit (going rusty). Tiny bathroom (if partner was in it you would hit them when opening the door). Concrete ceilings, beams and columns still with the shuttering marks just painted over. Not terrible but could do with modernising.
