The room was lovely and the pool area is gorgeous, but the service in the Yellowbird restaurant - particularly at breakfast - really lets the hotel down. Service is super-slow and some fairly basic items on the breakfast menu were unavailable on consecutive days.

Two days before our departure we booked a taxi via reception for 6am for our trip to the airport. We double-checked the night before that the cab had been booked, and were assured it had been. However, on the morning itself, we discovered that the cab hadn’t actually been booked and we had a stressful 45 minute wait for another cab to arrive.

One of our favourite stays in the world. Have returned three times now and will be keeping it in the rotation. Restaurant staff are always on Bahamian time, but the drivers (to Old Fort), Freddy at the pool bar, and the turn-down staff are extra kind, and we always appreciate them.

The Perfect Resort

I stayed at the Island House for my best friends birthday trip. It was about 17 of us and the property was perfect for all aspects. We enjoyed the pool, the onsite movie theater, the restaurants and the gym. The staff: Kera, Tamara, Jarvis, Roshado were all so accommodating and wonderful. I’ll be back!!

My room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff was friendly, pleasant helpful and welcoming. The hotel offered a variety of restaurants for dining; my favorite was Yellowbell.

I enjoyed my stay here because it provided a calm and laid back environment. I was able to rest and relax and have fun.

My only concern was the description of the room, The Marina View Room, which did not offer a view of the Marina. The Manager advised this was the actual name for the 2nd floor rooms and not rooms that allow you to see the Marina.They are working on changing that description on their website because it is very misleading.

However, overall I would say it is a very nice and inviting hotel where the staff is attentive to your needs. I would recommend it for your next vacation.

Convenient for the airport. Rooms were nice and facilities ( pool and gym).
However, the gym air con was not on high enough and therefore too hot, there was no water in the gym in the morning, there were no towels in the pool showers and generally the service to get drinks outside was slow.

We loved our stay here. The service is unmatched, the restaurants are incredible and the location couldn’t be more convenient - a quick 10 minute drive from the airport. The rooms are modern, spacious and clean and you get a boutique feel with all the amenities that a big resort has (dining options, spa, fitness, a movie theatre, etc). We will be back!

The Hotel is very quiet, which we appreciated enormously, beautiful pool and enough lounge chairs also.
The Italian restaurant has an interesting menu and is tasty, the bottle of wines are over priced, I know because we are wine consumers and connoisseurs.

Here’s a Honest review:

Pros
The STAFF amazing !!!! From the front desk staff to the wait staff.
Dining experience is also 5/5!
The pizza shop and Italian Restaurant amazing!
Property definitely has amazing food.
I’m a picky eater , very picky so if I say it was amazing it was very good.
Upscale crowd. Not many kids on site.
A lot of locals come in to use the facilities; which made me feel very comfortable.
Small resort, a peace of mind away from the busy tourist areas.
24 hour gym

Cons:
No wait staff by pool at all! Very annoying. No towels, you gotta flag down someone to get service outside.
Although wait staff was attentive when needed inside the Yellowbell ; very chatty in the corners ..you can tell it’s young staff. A little unprofessional.

Housekeeping! Ugh 😑 there was only one housekeeper that unfortunately cleaned my room to satisfaction. The others on duty barely cleaned the front of my suite , barely made my bed or replaced towels. It was annoying.
The one housekeep;young lady named Angel you could tell she was trained differently than the older staff and cared about hospitality. She would even leave jazz music playing on our tvs once she left. She was just amazing !
Room floors and carpet could be up Kept better. ( kinda raggedy for the price of the hotel)

Other than that again the stay was a nice one!
Will definitely return just for the staff and food alone!

This might be my favorite hotel in the world. We stay there frequently and each time I feel both at home and another world away.

Beyond the oversized rooms, treetop property and ritzy location of Lyford Cay; I appreciate the thoughtful design of open work spaces, fabulous decor and intimate, tropical garden. It’s a wonderful alternative to the area’s large resorts and casinos.

Dinner at Yellowbird, TERN Contemporary Art Gallery and the authentic Italian Market are lovely and the treetop views from both restaurants, make a sleepover worthwhile.

The Island House is a unique property on the island. Quiet and exclusive. The property and rooms are beautiful and the staff goes above and beyond to provide great service. While it’s a very small hotel, the dining options provide great variety. We weren’t sure what to expect with the beach access, but we were driven in a private car and picked up whenever we wanted. The private beach is beautiful and quiet, with a beachfront bar and food. There is not a lot to do around the property and you will need to take a 30 minute ride into town for most excursions.

Stayed here on a solo birthday trip after reading reviews by other patrons. I’m glad I chose this hotel as I felt like it was perfect for a female solo traveling looking for peace, quietness and tranquility. The grounds of this property were so beautiful and well kept. I felt there was enough entertainment on the property to keep me satisfied on the days that I did not leave the area. If you are planning to leave the area I would suggest renting a car because this location is far from downtown and the taxis can really add up. The airport is rly close however. The one downside was the shuttle for the beach as when I took the shuttle I didn’t not receive prompt service getting back to the property which felt rly uneasy being left. I would suggest a better shuttle schedule just for the beach. Besides that the staff were amazing and helpful at all times. Top notch customer service. I would absolutely stay again

When you hear Bahamas, this is what you should be dreaming about. Lush grounds, amazing food, warm lovely people. Everything is designed to perfection- the weight of the coffee cups at Yellowbell restaurant, the lounge chairs by the olympic sized pool, the quality of the towels, everything was chosen with beauty and function in mind. If you read a bad review about TIH, the reviewer is the issue, not the TIH.
Things to know: many restaurants on site, beach shuttle to a private beach club that also has amazing food. The place is quiet, calm and peaceful. If you want little Vegas, go to elsewhere. If you want perfection, come here and be cool.

I'm almost reluctant to give a review, in fear that too many people will find TIH, and its specialness will disappear. But to say anything bad would be an outright crime. TIH was EXACTLY what my tired mind, body, and spirit needed. The property is clean, the staff are professional, and the rooms are excellent. But what I found most valuable was how quiet and peaceful the property is. Calming but not boring light music in the background, calming and grounding modern color scheme, and generally quiet staff. If you are a traveler looking for a place where you can read by the pool, no social media dominated space, and no upselling, then I highly recommend TIH! I will definitely be back...and soon!

Our stay at The Island House was even better than what we expected. The hotel staff especially in the reception were very friendly. The rooms were exceptionally clean, spacious and comfortable. The hotel’s architecture and interior design are of very good taste.

The pool area is beautiful and was always tidy. The gym and yoga room are amazing as well. They have special classes going on every now and then in the movement studio. I got to attend a sound healing class in the movement yoga room during my stay.

The food in the restaurants was always very good (although somewhat pricey). I personally liked the hospitality, staff and menu in Yellowbell the most. Although there is no “room service” per se, there is a small gourmet market on the hotel property and a pizza place with a nice menu where you can pre-order, if you want to have lunch or dinner in your room. Make sure to ask where these are located.
Even though locals and members can visit the restaurants, our experience was generally pretty chill.

The hotel is just a 12 minute ride to the airport. And 5 minute ride to the beach. The beach area belongs to a private club and your daily membership is included when you stay. Even though we went in July and it is considered peak season, it was pretty chill and not packed at all which was great.

We've traveled to almost every island there is...but hadn't been to Bahamas for a very long time.

We chose The Island House because we don't like the high-rise elevator type resorts. We were not disappointed.

The Island House is a perfect boutique resort, ALL the staff are friendly and efficient, the grounds are immaculate and the rooms are awesome. All rooms are the same layout (which is huge and with amazing bathroom) they just have different locations on the property - but with 30 rooms none are far away from the gorgeous pool and common areas. No running down early to throw a book on a lounge chair, no fighting other guests for amenities.

We chose The Island House because the room price was extremely reasonable compared to some outrageous prices we saw at the 2 big resort locations (you know who they are). We were thrilled to death that we chose The Island House - it's super classy and we will definitely stay again. Their 2 main restaurants are excellent too. PS: on our last 2 days there, John Malkovich and his lady checked in for a few days...if it's good enough for someone who could stay anywhere - it should be good enough for you!

This visit was one of the best vacations we have been on. We appreciated the limited number of guest and the ease of accessing Old Fort Bay Beach. It was virtually empty and we could walk and enjoy it at our leisure. The staff was attentive and worked as a unit to insure our comfort. Finally, the ability to relax existed throughout the property with well placed loungers at the pool, in the reception area, the library, and outside of the dining area.

I booked a 5 day stay at the Island House for the first week of August. While there were no issues during my stay I would like to make future guests aware of dishonest business practices. I booked my stay through Expedia and paid extra for free booking cancellation/modification. For personal reasons I needed to amend my booking to arrive a day later than originally planned. I called Expedia within the free cancellation period and was given confirmation by the customer service agent that my booking would be amended with no fees. Upon arriving at Island House on the new arrival date, I was subsequently made aware by management that my cancellation request was denied and I would be charged for the night that I was not there. I was not given a valid reason why the amendment was not made, despite Expedia confirming it had been. Whether the blame is to be held with Expedia or Island House is of no significance. To be charged nearly C$1000 for a night that I was not at the hotel, and having made the amendment within the free cancellation period and accordance with their policy, is not only entirely unjust but is an instance of two companies acting dishonestly. This not what I would expect from businesses that each core competency is guest experience. I would not recommend using Expedia or Island House to future guests.

We had a wonderful stay at the island house. Spectacular food and drinks. The private beach was paradise (although service at the beach wasn’t as good as at the Island House). The staff were fantastic, very kind and attentive. The facilities were top notch- high end treadmills, pool was quiet and great for doing laps or relaxing. Never had to worry about getting a place to sit by the pool in the shade. Don’t miss the Market which has packaged food and drinks (on the property but hidden a bit!).

I was super excited to stay at The Island House with four of my friends, but when we got there we were told that all five of us weren’t allowed to stay in the double queen room that we booked due to “housekeeping” reasons and that we were required to purchase an additional room for a charge of $1700 on top of the $1800 we already paid for our room. After a bunch of back & forth we were told that a maximum of 4 people are allowed to a room due to safety reasons. It was disappointing that we could not be better accommodated because we were not aware, especially since I had spoken to Antonique, one of the employees a week prior to our arrival to set up transportation and she was aware that there were a total of five people under 1 reservation and one room. Had it been mentioned then we would have found somewhere else to stay. We were only staying 3 nights & pleaded with them for some type of accommodation since we came all this way and had nowhere else to go even if we could just stay for one night until we figured it out, but that wasn’t possible without being charged for the entire weekend. The bigger disappointment was the manager James who could care less that we were essentially stranded and said that we should’ve read the policy. He was very cold & rude. We wasted an entire day going back & forth. They pretended as if there was going to be some type of resolve but kept coming back with the same exact answer. Overall just a very bad experience.

Beautiful stay…the only issues we had were that there was no fridge in the room which is absolutely insane for what you pay, they don’t take cash which we had planned to use, we felt that staff members were talking about us behind the scene which made us very uncomfortable- also we were told things such as our room was ready and our taxi was here…just to find that our room was NOT ready and took another 30-45 mins after having waiting already an hour, and our taxi driver took off once already having arrived to go get gas so we had to wait even longer. Everything was extremely overpriced, would probably not return.

This is an amazing property for those who are looking for tranquility. It's the opposite of the other big resort hotels.
Only 30 rooms at this boutique hotel. Attentive and friendly staff. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are simply wonderful. The pool is very large and lots of lounge chairs. The hotel's dinner restaurant, Shima is an excellent option. Don't miss the shuttle to the private beach club. It is a small slice of heaven. Gym, spa, and fitness studio on site.

Had an amazing time. Property was beautiful. The private beach at club made the weird check in everytime arriving to beach worth it.

Staff were ver attentive and helpful. Maybe too enthusiastic with trying to enter room while having a matinee! The credits hadn't rolled yet and even when said no staff tried entering so we took to making sure door was bolted.

The best hotel experience I have ever had in my life! From the moment we arrived the staff were so friendly and competent, they accommodated all of our requests and often exceeded expectations quite often. I went to celebrate my partners 30th birthday (and secretly propose to her) and the staff excellently helped me curate a wonderful experience. I can't wait to come back again!

Limited food options and timing. Drinks being served until 1am with food ending at 10pm is a big miss for the hotel.

Also, please offer local fare as well.

This is a beautiful property, with the friendly and efficient staff. The rooms are large and quiet. The pool is very large and lots of lounges for everyone.
The breakfasts are delicious and the hotel's dinner restaurant, Shima is an excellent choice.
Excellent all around.
The shuttle to the beautiful private beach club is a must.

James the general manager has a great handle on how to run a fist rate hotel.

A lovely property. We had high expectations but it exceeded them. The private beach club they are connected to is stunning, the restaurants are great, and the pool is a lovely place to spend time. Staff were super friendly. Highly recommend.
