I was very disappointed with the housekeeping department. They did not clean my room for 3 days. Terribly BAD!
I went to verbalize my concerns to the front desk and asked if the hotel staff clean the guest room daily. They stated sometimes. Horrible service, a Motel 6 provide better service

When we first checked in we were put in a room that was not supposed to be given. It was filthy and was stripped down, no fitted sheet, no hairdryer, no coffee maker, iron, ironing board. The floor was filthy. We talked to the manager and she put us into a nicer room that was clean with everything it should have. We were moved to that room later in the second day of our stay. The property and staff were both very nice and accommodating.

The British Colonial was a great place to stay in Nassau. Small but pristine beach, good location for seeing the local attractions and downtown area. Pool area is beautiful. Their staff is wonderful, very accommodating and friendly! Only improvement the hotel could make is more comfortable beds and pillows.

There were issues with the toilet in the original room we checked into. It was made for a midget. The seat was so low to the floor that it was unusable. Management WAS helpful in locating another room for us, however, this room was not properly
stocked with toilet paper, wash cloths, hand towels or any type of cabinet in the bathroom to place toiletries on. THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE SAFE. It was taken care of however.

Astronomical prices for an average hotel. The bathroom wasn't super clean and it was super uncomfortable. What is worst that hidden fees were held from my account without my authorization or any logic behind it. We are talking about almost $400 held in between 2 days besides with no prior communication or explanation. The people at the front desk were dismissive. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here.

Staff was very nice. They have food options , i hate how expensive it was but that was for all of the food all over the island. Nice pool, and good view of the beach. The only thing i did not like was the traffic is busier during the day due to the cruise ships and them being able to buy day passes to use the beach …. but oh well. it was not horrible but more people when the cruise ships come in for sure. the housekeepers remember my name which was cool and when they saw me they said good morning miss taylor , which shows that they pay attention. the food in the hotel is also good food so it was worth the price in my opinion.

you do also have to pay for parking it is 35$ a day. mcdonald’s and dairy queen right across the street if you want faster cheaper food option. they do a 400$ hold on your card also for food and drinks. if you do not use it you’ll get it back. i think i had to pay extra for each day i had room service. not 100% sure on that. there is a lot of different categories on the receipt.

Overall we had a nice stay. Spacious room with large bathroom. Had signed up for an ocean view king with a balcony … which we had. But you had to be standing to see the water from both due to high windows in the bedroom and a wall around the deck. Oftentimes long waits at the front desk and mixed messages depending on who you spoke with. Our daughter, son-in-law, and 5 and 7 year olds visited the hotel from their cruise ship one day, which happened to a coincidence. A day ahead I asked the front desk what the charge would be, as we knew the hotel charges for non-registered guests to use their beach and pool. We were told that there would not be a charge for us because we were staying at the property and guest passes would be issued for them. The morning before their arrival, I went to the front desk to pick up these passes and was told by the associate on duty that this was an error and that I would be charged. I was then directed to the woman at the gift shop who would take care of these passes. She indicated that children under 12 years old would be free. She then proceeded to take me and three other people out to a small office by the beach to have the person there handle the billing for the passes. I understood, of course, that the hotel must control use of their beach facilities due to the number of cruise ships arriving daily at the nearby docks. I ended up paying for two adults and two children. A disappointing mess for certain. Food and service very good overall.

We had a standard room, queen bed. The room was quaint with a large bathroom. Very clean, unfortunately no balcony but the windows did open.

The hotel is absolutely stunning (and if you’re an OG 007 fan, you’ll notice a few filming spots) it has a decent size pool and a lovely beach. We stayed from Thursday to Saturday and didn’t have any trouble securing a shaded chair, until Saturday afternoon, when it got busier.

Short walk to explore downtown and to Junkanoo Beach, we ate at the Salty Crab and the cracked conch was amazing! The beach was very busy as it was Sat and a lot of people from the cruise ships spend their day there.

Staff at the Colonial were so friendly! A huge perk was that we were able to store our bags for the day and still had access to their beach!

The hotel itself is fine and the rooms are reasonably comfortable, but it’s really noisy and not relaxing to stay there. My room was near the elevator which pinged loudly all night. The breakfast buffet was ok (good fruit but the bread and pastries were not very nice) and certainly not worth $40 per head.

We’ve stayed in Nassau over 30 times and our first stay at British Colonial. Our check in experience was horrible with very poor customer service. Once we got to our room, we called for wine glasses to be sent up and they said they didn’t do that. We had to go to the bar. Other than that the rooms were great, the bar staff was excellent. Grounds are beautiful, beach and pools are great. Everything was very clean. Check out experience was quick and the different staff made all the difference. I believe it was just one bad apple, I wish I had gotten her name. We will stay here again and hopefully they’ll be more accommodating at the front desk.

The property clean and stunning. The first room was a garden view. It was so small I had to duck my head to not hit the tv to get to far side of bed. I spoke to manager who moved us to a city view larger room. It was roomier however no Dressor for clothing so living out of a suitcase and of course noisier. Not much night life at hotel or surrounding area. Most places close at 6:00 pm catering to cruise ships. The hotel restaurant was dark and stuffy, we waited 20 minutes without anyone taking a drink order so We walked to margarita ville to their restaurants and took a cab to Atlantis 22 cab ride. The fish fry is a safe 20 minute walk from BC. The best part of BC is the pool and beach area with poolside bar and great staff. We enjoyed our stay overall.

Check in process is terrible. Only one person checking people in with 10 people waiting to check in. Made it to the counter after 30 minutes waiting and they said my room wasn't ready. Check in time is 4 pm and it was after 4 pm! I waited an hour came back and room still not ready. They finally 'upgraded' me to a room that was ready. Zero out of ten would not recommned. Check out was just as bad. Hire more counter people!

Very nice historic lobby and bar with soaring ceilings.
Very welcoming front desk arrival. Valet parking service very good. Room was fresh and light. Generous towels and bathroom amenities.
TV via satellite, ample channels, satellite reception annoyingly kept failing.No ability to stream own device, whole set up needs updating. Wifi good on property. Disappointed not to have a business center & no ability to send a FedEx from the hotel. Was told I had to drive to the other side of the island and find the main FedEx facility,I attempted this but never found and wasted hours. Had to walk to another hotel to print an important document. For such a large hotel with meeting rooms it is not business friendly. Would have been nice if the lobby coffee bar and snack area had extended hours. But there is an extended hours commissary located around the corner at One Particular Harbour, which has a great selection.
Service at the bar was mixed. Be prepared to wait when approaching the bar. The friendly staff often seem occupied on everything else except customers, just need a little training. It’s a beautiful venue & varied entertainment most evenings.
Breakfast tip- if in a hurry, grab the buffet and pay the extra $$.Or grab from coffee shop. The ala carte menu service is slow and unorganized. Food just ok. Very nice employees though!
Hotel is central, busy & enjoyable. Just needs a bit more love and focus on what guests need. l would definitely return and try again.

We left a terrible experience at the Baha Mar to come to the British Colonial and it saved our vacation! It was the relaxing getaway that we needed. The hotel and beach were beautiful, we loved the lounging area before the pool where we quietly rested while our son napped. Exactly what we needed which is what we didn’t get at the Baha Mar, sun and serenity. The staff is INCREDIBLE and definitely contributed to a memorable experience, with the exception of an odd few. We dined at the buffet every morning and every single staff member there was a pleasure, especially Cindy. We also dined at the lunch/dinner restaurant a couple of times where we also had a great experience. The gentlemen on the beach crew were exceptional, especially Ken! Although I would say the beach bar/restaurant does not meet the excellence of the rest of the hotel. The service was definitely not as friendly, it was slow and seemed kind of careless. We avoided it after a couple of satisfactory experiences. The hotel is in a good location so we were able to grab food at other spots. I would also note that the rooms are small. We would have preferred queen beds over the double beds which is the usual standard, and our shower was tiny! But overall it was a good experience.

The British Colonial is a fantastic hotel - right on Downtown and Nassau Port. It’s spotlessly clean inside and out, and there’s always staff around to help. We made great use of the hotel bars (inside, and by the pool) which offered great food and drink. And the pools and private beach were fabulous. Our room (officially garden view, but with a clear view of the sea and port) was spacious, and cleaned daily. And as you’d expect with the Bahamas, everyone was super friendly. Can’t fault our experience!

Special notice to the Bar, which is lovely and elegant. The outdoor spaces are beautiful and the beach and pool areas are clean and large enough to accommodate plenty of guests. Lovely stay.

At no point were we ever able/allowed to use any of the things like the kayaks or the water bikes like Expedia said we would be able to. Everything is extremely expensive here and also the staff never let us swim in the ocean at any point because there was wood floating in it. Like what?? Also, the resort fee is a bit ridiculous. What resort? It is a hotel with an outdoor pool, seems pretty normal to me.

The staff were nice very welcoming, the property is beautiful very well maintained. the only thing that I wasn’t happy with was not being able to find a chair on the beach or pool area that was available and not broken, we got lucky 3 days out of 6 , we ended up going to another beach area and renting out some chairs , I’m not happy that there’s a resort fee being charged when this was a major problem not only for me but for other guest I wasn’t the only upset guest also want to mention the cruise ship people also making reservations to use the facilities and that’s makes it even a bigger problem. They really need to focus more on the guest before selling day passes they need to make guest a priority if they want people to leave satisfied. This was really frustrating and feel it’s unfair . There should be a resort fee !!!

The hotel makes a strong first impression. From the moment you arrive, the space is beautifully presented and the atmosphere is very welcoming. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful throughout my stay — from reception to the restaurant team — which I really appreciated.

That said, there were a few aspects that impacted my overall comfort. The layout made it quite difficult to find my room on arrival, which wasn’t ideal after travelling. When I entered the room, it was very cold and the floors were noticeably freezing, which took some time to adjust. The shower was also quite noisy, which detracted from what should have been a relaxing experience.

In addition, my room faced the main street and the noise levels were significant, particularly at night, which affected sleep.

Overall, while the service and presentation of the hotel are strong, some practical elements of the stay could be improved to enhance guest comfort.

Rooms were clean, staff were very friendly. Room cleaning wasn't consistent, had to make a few requests they forgot to restock towels and water.

There's only one restaurant, which was quite good. The drinks were good value for the price and well mixed. The other is a cafe, and a very small/limited sushi bar. However, many many food options within walking distance.

The beach and pools are very nice and maintained. Lits of sitting spaces in the sun or shade depending on your preference.

The later afternoon guava juice os the perfect refresher after a day of walking or a tour.

Nice hotel, service is not the greatest.. was in line at the coffee shop and the server was chatting with her friend while I was just waiting there till they finished their conversation.. same thing at the breakfast restaurant, had to ask for something twice, there were only 2 tables seated and like 10 staff walking around.. the staff always seems to be chatting. Nice location, but everything surrounding closes at 5pm so don’t expect to be shopping or walking around downtown at night, it’s deserted.

Otherwise, nice lobby and bar, good bartenders at the bar.

Food is good but service is very slow. Often things were completely forgot or just wrong. Staff seemed annoyed when we asked for water more than once after waiting for a long time or corrected them when they sent the wrong dish. One of the most beautiful hotels anywhere let down by some appalling staff and a Fawlty Towers style approach to processes with zero common sense. Constantly running out of stock of basic items, and a silly pricing policy that sees a burger at $22 and a simple steak frites at $75. Nothing to do around the hotel once the cruise ships leave. It’s such a shame, with some care this could be one of the best hotels anywhere. The Bahamas as a whole is sorely lacking in direction, and the price of basic items is eye watering. Food quality is average at best across the country, yet this hotel does have good food quality if a pretty poor selection. No options for children for example except for around the pool. Do they not eat at a night time then? Finance and billing is a mess and they cannot organise even the most basic of room charges. Adding 15% automatic gratuity and 10% VAT to every bill adds to the pain on pricing.

For a few days? Go - it’s a lovely property with a lot of history. Anything more than 5 days you will be bored stiff. Not to mention driven crazy by the stupidity of most of the staff.

Hotel sells day passes to cruise ships since it is the closest to ships, no beach or pool lounges left for hotel guests by late morning. Need to get lounge early in AM. After spending $3,000 for 5 nights, asked for 11:30 checkout, 30 minutes late, they wanted $50! Front desk employees seem inmature, didn’t even pull up my account

Our only complaint was housekeeping. Everything was clean, but it was a guessing game what would not be there every day. Only one day we had wash cloths, one day we had neither hand towels nor wash cloths (although we asked to get them), one day no coffee cups, then no supplies for the coffee machine. Definitely not reliable. The private beach was small but okay. We had enough chairs, but not umbrellas. The hotel is literally by the cruise ship port. It was interesting to watch. The food was good. Staff very friendly.

This facility is beautiful inside. The people were friendly and very helpful. The food was good at the main restaurant. A few things to note- there is typically just one place open at night. The sushi place was open only on Friday/sat night. There was no live music, no outdoor dining at night, fire pit was only lit one night we were there, most things within walking distance close early, the cruise boats are the driver for the tourism. The resort food was incredibly expensive and gratuity and taxes added. Be prepared to spend a lot of money just to eat. The coffee in the rooms was not drinkable and there is not free hotel ready made coffee like in the states.The coffee at the coffee bar was amazing and $10/day for one There was a mcD’s and Dunkin' close but the thousands of people coming off of tour boats was remarkable and made it hard to do anything during the day. The beach had a lot of Plastic debris and only was cleaned and raked one night in our 6 night there. I picked up straws and cups daily. Management was outside on site one day and things looked much better. The umbrella guys were great. The outdoor space and pool were very nice. Swimming with turtles right off the beach was amazing. It was a mixed bag. Again very nice first time to the island. I hope fo more nightlife, events in the resort, a cleaner beach, and more food variety.

I will start out with the good, location is amazing but only for during the day.
On our first day we tried breakfast at the restaurant and the food was dry/overcooked and they were out of ingredients. We stayed at a double room which had plenty of space but was lacking places to sit, There was one chair and the room was for 4 people. Beach location was good, however I was constantly picking up garbage that people left behind. There is really nothing to do past 6 pm in that area and it does not feel safe walking at night. The hotel closes their outside bar and has no entertainment, except for the one restaurant. The restaurant is under staff and food takes forever and the order always comes out wrong. People are very nice but was just expecting a little more from this hotel.

I am writing to formally express my profound disappointment and outrage regarding the utterly unacceptable experience my husband and I endured during our recent stay at the British Colonial Hotel in Nassau, Bahamas, from March 18th to March 23rd. What was intended to be a much-needed restorative and celebratory getaway turned into an absolute nightmare, profoundly impacting our health, well-being, and marital relationship. We had chosen this hotel with the expectation of a luxurious and serene retreat, particularly significant as we were celebrating a dear friend's 60th birthday and, more importantly, seeking a period of respite and recovery following my recent, terrifying diagnosis of a brain tumor. Our hopes were high, anticipating the beautiful resort and spacious, ocean-view accommodations advertised online. Upon our late arrival on March 18th, our initial assigned room was uninhabitable due to a pervasive and nauseating odor of rotten fish. We were asked to wait while the room was supposedly cleaned, only to be moved to a different room later. This room, however, presented a new set of distressing issues: it was devoid of basic amenities such as toilet paper, the floors were visibly dirty, and the overall impression was one of neglect.

Overall, the hotel experience was fantastic from check in to check out. The staff were helpful with local recommendations and always made us feel safe. There are local options near by for alternatives to hotel food for breakfast, lunches and dinner. (Including coffee).

The cleaning staff that make the rooms just ignored our room for a couple of days. When i asked them to make the bed and clean the room and refresh water bottles and towels, They just threw a blanket in my face and disappeared.

Room location 444 was not ideal. It’s next to the elevator and you hear it moving up and down ALL night and early in the morning. Around 3:00am repairs were being done that cause a loud banging against metal sound. It last an hour. I had an early flight that morning so needless to say it was not a comfortable restful night that I’m used to at this hotel.

The room was clean, fresh, and filled with natural light, though the shower and sink could use some repairs. The pool area was well maintained and cleaned daily, with comfortable seating. Beach towels were always clean and regularly restocked. It would be better if the private beach was limited to hotel guests instead of allowing cruise visitors. The hotel has a charming colonial feel overall. Food at the main restaurant and coffee shop is overpriced compared to better options in the city, but the small Asian restaurant stood out because the sushi was consistently well made.

The location is excellent. About a 10-minute walk to the Fish Fry market and just 3 minutes to the downtown area, with plenty of restaurants and shops. It’s also within walking distance of the quieter, less crowded historical center with a rum distillery, art galleries, and chocolate and cigar factories.

Clean and neat property with a small private beach that can get somewhat crowded from cruise day-passers.

Staff was mainly friendly, although often came across unhelpful members.

Hit with a “hotel fee” of $250 upon checking out that was not mentioned during check-in that meaningfully changed my opinion; otherwise, clean place with an OK location that did its job. Likely better spending marginally more to stay on Paradise Island with better beaches and more accommodating staff (and no hidden fees)

The pool side is quiet and well kept. The internet is great. The food choices are good too. There is a bit of noise from outside sometimes loud music etc, for some rooms.

Staff are friendly and helpful. The prices are the same as any 4 star hotel in the US.

The staff was great, however, the walls between rooms are very thin and we could hear conversations on both sides throughout our stay. We also had a hot water problem, and let the front desk know on day 2 and day 3 of our 4 day stay. Nothing was done about it and when asked for a one night room credit, they would not grant it. The only thing they refunded was a $50 resort fee. Not worth the $ for cold showers!

Staff were great…closet has an awful smell, we never used it…size of the pillows were small and uncomfortable. Outdoor pools were ok but used next door hotel’s infinity pool and jacuzzi. It’s fun to watch the cruise ships when they are leaving.
