What a beautiful hotel! The private beach was absolutely spotless and perfect for our 3 year old to safely explore and play all day. The rooms were clean and well maintained and apart from two nights where music blared somewhere until almost 5am, perfectly silent at night. The staff were amazing too. Special mention to Kentosh on the beach who was so kind to our little boy and made him feel so special. We also saw Randy every day who helped us with beach umbrellas and Christopher in the lobby. On the last day chatted with the manager Charles who clearly has great pride in this property and is very dedicated to keeping it a wonderful place to visit. As animal lovers we were pleased that the on site cats were vetted, neutered, fed, and had been named. The view from our room was amazing and every day we watched the cruise ships come in at dawn and leave at dusk. The water is so clear you could see to the bottom, there are a ton of tropical fish and turtles swimming just outside the enclosure. Would go back in a heartbeat. Loved our week in Nassau at British Colonial!

Enjoyed our stay. Clean property. Great pool and beach area. Professional and welcoming staff. A couple things to mention that are not known. At the end of the trip the hotel will charge you a $35 per day tourism fee that was not disclosed when you checked in or included in the Expedia price. They said there is nothing they can do because it’s government fee. In addition, you are charged 15% gratuity on everything you purchase on the property regardless is the service was good or not. And lastly the $42 beverage credit was not applied to our stay as outlined in the booking.

I usually never post a review, but this is nevessary. Upon arrival, the property was very clean and the staff was very courteous. The front desk check in was a bit hectic, however, very accommodating. The room appeared clean, but dated. Although the floor was mopped, it was very sticky, there were no wash cloths and only one hand/bath towel available for two guests, but It was quickly remedied upon request. Downside, we paid for a day bed by the pool but to our dismay the hotel double booked and we were unable to use it. When speaking to mngmt., we were first told, 'we do not handle the booking for pools', as if we made it up. We felt they should have been more accommodating, as we were paying guests. Eventually, after speaking with next level mngmt., we were promised a refund. The hotel caters more to the cruise line clientele, as they offer all of the amenities, as their paid guests cam enjoy, by purchasing a day pass so with that, paid guests have no first choice privilege and you are definitely overlooked. With the offered day pass, the paid guests miss out on what you look forward to enjoying. Over priced with extra hotel taxes, just not worth it.

If we ever come back to Bahamas, we will definitely stay at British Colonial again. The ground both inside and outside are immaculate. Staffs are overall friendly and professional. The location is the best, private beach and close to everything.

Overall it was good, but attention to detail could be better. We are a family of 4 in a double room city view and there were only 2 towels and not enough hangers. We had to ask for a hair dryer even though it was listed. There aren't enough towel bars,very little space to hang things and the shower isn't functional - using it floods the bathroom. Some staff were nice, but others were impatient and not very helpful when we asked for restaurant or sightseeing recommendations. Service room didn't work pretty well, more than 2 hours waiting for a muffin that never came.

The hotel and amenity areas were clean and well maintained. Check in and out was easy and welcoming. Great location in the heart of Nassau. Very walkable to shops and restaurants. Really enjoyed the beach and swimming area. Beautiful sand beach and easy water entry. A private beach which was nice. Housekeeping staff work very hard and do a great job. Hot water takes a long time to arrive in the shower but it does come eventually. Wasted a lot of water in order to get hot water. A common complaint that has not been fixed is the poor quality of the food in the bar. Expensive and not good. Do not order calamari for example. Came as a clump of soggy undercooked breading. Bar service was excellent. This space could be a real jem if there was more focus on food preparation quality. Overall we had an enjoyable week.

The British Colonial Hotel has a rich history and has been beautifully refurbished as of Dec of 2023. It’s lovely and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We didn’t have an ocean view but that isn’t important to us as we spend little time in the room. The 2 pools are perfect .. one for families of small children as you can walk in on a very soft padded floor. The ocean is right in front of the pools with a sugar sand beach with lots of loungers. There’s a great beach grill with a nice menu and just outside the property is another great restaurant along with a Senior Frog and shopping for the cruise ships that dock in that vicinity. We were in walking distance to everything including the Fish Fry which is a 8 minute walk to a string of bohemian restaurants.

The view from the room included the ocean as well as the cruise liner harbor which was pretty special. That said, overall I was disappointed with the size of the upgraded room and the bathroom was in need of some maintenance. The pool and beach area are average in comparison with other Caribbean resorts. I used the fitness center numerous days and found the temperature to be way to warm and the daily upkeep lacking.

I recently stayed at the British Colonial Nassau. The hotel is located right beside the cruise ship docks, and from the back of the property there is beach access — however, you’ll still see the cruise ships from there. Keep in mind that this area is very busy during the daytime because of the cruises (there were about four docking daily during our stay). At night, though, the area becomes very quiet and most places close early.
Breakfast at the hotel is $40 per person, which feels quite expensive. Thankfully, there’s a McDonald's directly across the street (go early because it gets very busy), and Olde Nassau Café nearby offers a great breakfast and coconut rum pound cake for local Bahamian breakfast there Bohemian cooking restaurant definitely a better choice and more authentic option.
For dinner, options are limited at night, but Ibichan Restaurant is open until 9:00 PM and offers decent food at reasonable prices.
If you book through Expedia or similar third-party websites, be aware of additional costs: there is a resort fee of about $49 USD per day, and parking costs around $35 USD per day.
The rooms were decent. The sheets were comfortable, though the mattress was a bit too soft for my liking but for a short stay, it was fine. They use feather pillows, so keep that in mind if you have allergies. The AC worked well, which is important in Nassau.
The staff were nice and friendly. Overall, it’s a pretty standard hotel, perfectly fine for a short stay of a few days.

I did not like that the room was not ready for us at 5pm for check in. If check in is at 4pm, I should not have waited to receive my room by 5pm, especially after a long flight. The room smelled like Clorox bc it had just been cleaned and so upon going into the room, the smell was not pleasant. There were no shower curtains in the shower! All the water splashed on the floor even when you were as careful as you can be. The best part of the hotel was the beach and the food. There’s definitely improvement that needs to be made.

It got resolved eventually after they expressed their extreme displeasure, but definitely not a place we would ever stay again.

What stood out most was the consistency of service, especially over an extremely busy holiday weekend. Every interaction reflected professionalism, warmth, and genuine care.

Thank you to Charles and his team for their support throughout the week. We would also like to recognize Crystal at The Red Pearle Grille for ensuring our family’s allergies were handled thoughtfully and safely. The Front Desk team and Concierge were attentive and responsive at every turn.

We also appreciated the private beach and the hotel’s ideal location, within walking distance of fantastic restaurants, the Queen's Staircase, and plenty of shops.

We would gladly return.

Room was clean with housekeeping daily. Free water, tea and coffee in the room but stocking those items daily was inconsistent. Sometimes no coffee, sometimes no cups for coffee. Room phone did not work so we usually had to find someone working down the hall for supplies.
Difficult getting a lounge or umbrella by the pool until we got there for 7:30am. Staff in all areas of the hotel are outstanding!
Prices in the hotel restaurants were super expensive, and local restaurants close around 4:00 when the cruise ships leave. McDonald’s is open late, also sushi. Smugglers is great for Breakfast and lunch and Oku sushi, both across the street. Beautiful weather, and restful around the pool and beach. Meals were the only real issue.

Room was clean. Breakfast was great. Service was excellent. Facilities looked wonderful but I had a late check in at around midnight. Also had to leave the next morning so my stay is probably not typical and not what they cater to. That said, still, after 10:30 no food service. No vending machines. No mini bar in the room just an empty fridge. I had coffee supplies but no coffee maker or kettle. Just no food or drink. And I was a female travelling alone so didn't want to head outside at midnight. Hotel looked nice otherwise.

We spent three nights at the British Colonial. The room was large, clean, quiet, and the bed was comfortable. The pool area in general is well maintained, the gym is well equipped, and the staff were consistently friendly.

However, a few things fell short. The shower had very low water pressure, and the beach and pool loungers are quite worn and uncomfortable. We also found the on site dining expensive for the quality.

We chose the hotel for its downtown location, but many nearby restaurants close early due to catering to cruise traffic, so we ended up taking taxis elsewhere most evenings.

Our “garden view” faced a courtyard and another building, which was disappointing. On our final morning, housekeeping entered shortly after knocking, well before checkout time.

Overall, a comfortable stay, but not quite the experience we expected for the price.

The staff was very helpful and courteous . There were some issues that they worked to resolve quickly but are notable: no safe in the room, broken phone, lukewarm shower. It is important to note that they do NOT rake the beach. There were piles of accumulated seaweed which was annoying considering how beautiful the beach could be. One day I spent a few minutes clearing the trash that washed up overnight.
Of note: the smashburgers at the tavern were AMAZING. Also, the staff told us that they don’t get the tips you charge but do get paid from the 15% automatic gratuity. The beach bar right off property has a great lunch. The cruiseships are right there and it’s both weird and cool to see them docking just off the hotel beach. Hotel is right next to cruise port and straw market area.

The most OKAY experience imaginable! Nothing was bad, nothing was great, just average across the board.
The staff didn't go above and beyond, but they all did what you'd expect. The food was great, but the prices were high = okay value.
Okay location, close enough to everything, but also near some sketchy parts.
The beds were comfortable, BUT loud street traffic, loud fans, too close to ice machine, and flashing lights in the room made for OKAY night sleeps.
I spoke with other guests who felt the same.
5 star rating requires exceeding expectations.
4 star rating requires a good experience.

The room was nice. The first night we got there the water was shut off and we couldn’t shower. They let us know in the am that they were working on the water. Day 2 the water didn’t get hot was told give it a few hours it never got had ended up taking a cold shower for 2 days asked to speak with manager no on was available. Next night we had French doors the wind was blowing extremely hard and it created a loud whistling noise in the room we couldn’t sleep maintenance came up the couldn’t fix it told us we would have to change rooms but no rooms were clean for us to go to. So the entire stay just wasn’t good at all and NO ONE addressed the issues after me calling everyday and goin to the front desk to ask for help.
