Exeter Hotel is a cool and contemporary four star design hotel by the old Reykjavík harbour that offers local experience with all the perks of a hotel stay. The hotel's main building is a restoration of a house originally built in 1904.

Now renovated and linked to new and modern buildings the hotel's exterior is a tribute both to contemporary architecture and times when fishing and trade where the area's main industry. Leading from the entrance to the back garden is an open floor plan that includes a restaurant, bar, lounge and reception area.

The ground floor's high ceiling, together with the open garden, create a loft like feeling that connects the upstairs garden view rooms to the flow from the bustling street in the front.

Breakfast was very solid. Skyr, good bread, real fuel before going out to freeze your face off. Rooms were clean, modern, efficient. Nothing excessive, just well done.

There’s a small but functional gym and a sauna, which honestly hits after a long day in Icelandic wind. You do not need a commercial gym. You need somewhere to move a little and then sweat.

And the real sleeper perk is Deig in the lobby. Elite bakery. It sells out for a reason. If you see something you want, commit early.

Would absolutely stay there again. Perfect basecamp for cold-weather adventures.

Honestly what an excellent hotel. Very friendly staff, welcoming and communicative. I couldn't really fault the hotel in any way, so unfortunately my feedback isn't that constructive! Just keep doing what you're doing because I loved it. The style, cleanliness and location are all perfect. The adjoined restaurant and bakery are beautiful, from the artwork to the food quality. Again the staff were all brilliant. If (when!) I come back to Iceland I will definitely be back to Exeter, Le Kock and Dieg. Keep an eye out for those two for the price of one doughnuts in the evening, which is rare as they usually sell out!

Room was clean but small. Breakfast just ok. Location a little far from center. I had to check out 1 night early due to massive snow storm in new york, the icelandair offered me to leave the day before to avoid getting stranded in iceland. However after explaining to front desk she said manager wasn't there but he will contact me. I haven't heard from anybody from the hotel, I wasn't expecting a refund but at least a credit. Customer service needs improvement.

Had a very pleasant stay. The room was very clean. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I was to switch rooms to the same floor as my friends. The hotel is perfectly located near attractions, the harbor and grocery stores about a 10 min walk. I would definitely stay here again!

Exeter staff are incredibly warm and helpful, rooms are clean and spacious enough for two, location is convenient to buses and tours, very walkable to the harbor area and its surroundings, and having Le Kock downstairs for breakfast buffet and its delicious burger menu and bar made for a fantastic stay. For a hotel in a semi-busy location with nightlife, no issues really with any noise outside the property. We stayed 2x at this hotel and would again if in Reyjkavik.

We stayed at the Harbour Suite for 6 nights. A wonderful spacious suite with spectacular Mountain View’s. The room was spotless and the staff couldn’t do enough to make our stay fabulous. Breakfast was excellent. The heart shaped biscuits were sooo moreish! The hotel was perfectly placed to visit the many highlights within the city.

The Exeter is in a perfect location for Reykjavik: close to everything you want to do but still quiet and cozy. They were having a Christmas Market in the garden with some great handmade items. The staff was incredibly helpful, including arranging for a taxi at 4:00 am for an early morning flight. The rooms are spare but very comfortable. The only thing I wish they had was more light.

The staff was pleasant, kind, friendly and welcoming, the hotel was clean and well-kept (as was the room), the restaurant was delicious, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my time at Exeter Hotel. I loved how walkable everything was from the hotel. Annamaria, Justina, and Nadir were particularly helpful at the front desk, always answering any questions we had with great detail and providing us great recommendations for some great food in Reykjavik.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling to Iceland!

The room smelled like pizza. I realize you can’t stop someone from eating pizza in the room. But do extra cleaning to get the smell out. We smelled pizza the whole time we were there thought someone hid a piece somewhere in the room. Not up to the standard we are usually met with at the Exeter. Left a little disappointed.

We had a good time. The welcome was simple and efficient.
The room and bathroom were clean, comfortable and well equipped.

A small downside: we were a bit cold the first night, so we turned on the radiator for the second night. Unfortunately, it made a noise and whistling sound all night, and we ended up turning it off towards the end of the night. We would have appreciated a small gesture at check-out.

Nevertheless we still think it was a good stay and a beautiful hotel.
The restaurant, bagels and beers were excellent!
And well located.

The hotel has a fabulous coffee shop in it. I had one of the best cups of cappuccino that i've ever had.

I liked the moody vibe to the hotel rooms. And was able to get a good night's sleep.

Everyone I spoke to at the front desk went out of their way to be helpful.

Frist night we we given room 104 (I think). It was not very clean and people were walking around at our level directly outside our window, smoking and talking and listening to music. Noisy trash barrel pick up at 5am. Then the worst... about 1am fish frying smell filled the room. Almost unbearable. We got another room on the 4th floor next day which was fine. BUT...YOU GAVE US NO DAILY CLEANING, TRASH CAN EMPTYING, BED MAKING...NOTHING....ABSOLUTELY NO HOUSEKEEPING FOR 5 DAYS! WE HAD TO GO GET COFFEE, CLEAN GLASSES, TP, TISSUES. VERY POOR HOUSEKEEPING ...ACTUALLY NONE!

Excellent modern hotel that was very clean. I had a 5th floor room which was very quiet. Staff was very friendly and helped me book bus transport to the airport. The restaurant and bakery were very good. It was very convenient....just a 5-10 minute walk to the main shopping district, and it was right across the street from Bus Stop 4, a pick up spot for the airport and tour buses. I would definitely stay here again.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel! My partner and I arrived really early after our flight, fully prepared to just drop our bags and head out. To our surprise, the staff went above and beyond and found a room for us right away so we could check in early.

​We also loved the cool bakery and burger restaurant inside the building.

We highly recommend this hotel!

We had such a wonderful experience with the Exeter. The staff was incredibly helpful, nice and gracious, before and during our trip. Excellent communication. They went above and beyond. One of the front desk staff members emailed me a hike & hot spring day trip which we did. It was amazing, albeit VERY difficult - not for the faint of heart. The breakfast was good & plentiful. The gym is small and limited but sufficed. Pretty warm down there.

Great moderately priced downtown hotel!

We had a great stay at the Exeter Hotel! The staff service was above and beyond every single day. We were always greeted with bright smiles and attempts to help or discuss your country. In some ways, they are at the front lines to \"sell\" Iceland.
We loved that the lounge always had coffee. We loved the bakery connected to the hotel. I have to say, I wish that every hotel had a cafe like that. Every morning regardless of breakfast, we had access to a quick meal, fresh donuts and lunch to go!
The one negative was the gym as the machine you have is, for the most part, unusable. However, there were weights and that worked just fine.
The room was comfy and provided everything we needed. We loved that you've set up a \"greenhouse\" in the lobby as it was a nice quiet place to read.
And, of course, the location of the hotel was fantastic!!

I’m a 36 year old American and have been to Reykjavik 6 times now. I have stayed at Exeter for the last 3 and I wouldn’t stay anywhere else. The staff is fantastic and very accommodating. The location is perfect and most rooms have a very nice view. Great bakery and restaurant in the lobby.

This hotel gives off a modern/industrial style as my family and I lean towards these types of places. It is very similar to Marriott's brand the Moxy. The location is great as its close to all the attactions, shopping, restaurants and bus stop 4 which you will use to meet for excursions and airport shuttle service. They have a restaurant nearby called La Kocke and serves great bar type food. There is also a breakfast place that has pastries and hot breakfast sandwiches that are out of this world. My only drawback or complaint would be that the rooms don't have air conditoning which would have been the perfect experience. Even though the temperatures are cooler, the rooms get rather humid as they are constructed of concrete. I did ask for a fan from the front desk which made our stay more tolerable but was hard to rest easy with the temperature of the room because the lack of A/C. I would highly recommend this place for short stays but for long term stays I would avoid only because of not having climate control temperature in the rooms.
