Very convenient location, clean and very helpful staff. Massage and spa very relaxing. The beds are on the hard side , we prefer softer mattress but not a show stopper. Would recommend this property for your stay in Iceland.

The check in staff was very helpful and friendly. Everything else was lackluster. The bed was the incredibly uncomfortable. Almost couldnt sleep. The bathroom was spacious but the rest of the room was not, the bed took up the whole room. We checked in on the later side so it was kind of a bummer we had to pay for the spa because at that point it wasnt worth it. Also there was ALOT of noise. The windows rattled every time the wind blew (which is alot in iceland) we heard knocking and doors slamming at all hours

We’re both quite tall so the room we were in was problematic- sloping roof above both sides of the bed to each side of room meant we both hit our bed and a lot of the space was difficult to access.

The room was clean and comfortable and stylish. The only bad things were that the ceiling was low in some parts and we would hit our heads on it. The bathroom door also didn't close all the way, which caused the shower curtain to get sucked into the shower while the water was on and it created and uncomfortable shower.

Our recent stay at Þingholt by Center Hotels was absolutely fantastic — and honestly, you can’t beat the location, location, location! Situated right in the heart of Reykjavík, the hotel is perfectly placed for shopping, dining, and exploring the city’s top sights. If you’re joining guided tours, Bus Stop #6 is only a three-minute walk away, which made everything incredibly convenient.

The staff were super friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, always happy to help. Our room was spotless and thoughtfully equipped with a minibar and small fridge, which was a nice touch after long days of sightseeing. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and we especially enjoyed the hotel’s happy hour at the bar.

There’s also a cozy spa and a small gym available for guests (exercise bikes and dumbbells). While the hotel doesn’t offer free parking, we found it very easy to park nearby. Free parking is available along the residential edges of the city center and at a free lot near the church, and with the Easy Park app, managing parking was simple. We had a car for the entire week and never had any issues.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend Þingholt by Center Hotels to anyone visiting Reykjavík. Comfortable, friendly, and perfectly located — it made our trip even more memorable.

Room was lovely and clean. Options of having it redone was a nice offer. Fridge was helpful as used milk from breakfast for my tea & coffee. The powder ‘creamer’ isn’t nice.
Only down side was the ambient lighting. A bit dark when locating clothes from drawers etc.
staff were warm and friendly. Always greeted with a smile at reception.
Location was perfect. Walking distance to everything.

The room was spacious and well laid out however, very dark. There was no main overhead light to turn on that illuminated the whole room. We had to go round and turn individual lamps on. Some of these were unplugged on arrival, so it took a while before we were even able to see the room properly. The safe was impractically small and impractically high up, so we weren't able to use it to secure a MacBook at all, despite having rang ahead to check the size - so unfortunately no use.

The room was clean.

The bathroom very inadequate - a tiny shower with a hanging plastic curtain, but a space so small that it became your best friend. Toiletries were provided, but very basic.

The bed was comfortable but we were cold in the room on the first night, and asked for additional duvets which were provided. It was a king-size bed but you were given two individual duvets. Maybe that's the Icelandic way?

Breakfast was good with a decent selection of choices. There is a very basic gym and spa.

Overall a nice clean hotel in a very central location, but lacking in some basic facilities.

The room was small but for the price and the location, I thought it was great. It is very close to multiple pick up locations for tours and the staff was very helpful. My only issue with this hotel was that with breakfast included, the breakfast was AWFUL. Actually inedible.

The spa was not open until 11 like the website states and was closed for maintenance when we arrived. We did not get a partial refund for paying for spa access despite not being able to use it at all due to tours not returning until 10. I requested early breakfast for one morning during checkin and was told to ask again ata later time. The room itself was fine except for temperature. The room and refrigerator were both hot. We had to open all the windows to sleep there. I won't stay here again when I return.

The staff seemed okay. The room was crowded and hard to move around for me. I banged my head on the tv multiple times as it stuck out from the wall at an odd angle. The most worrisome thing is that the bathtub had black mold around the edges. I was concerned about that. The room I had was a nice corner room with a good view but it was close to housekeeping so I heard noises early in the morning (and I am hard of hearing). I was surprised they didn't offer free water bottles to guest like other hotels often do. I was underwhelmed by the hotel.

Really great location and amazing staff. Rooms were clean and spacious although lacking a bit of detail (eg lights not working). Mattress and pillows were comfortable. No double quilt, strange.

Breakfast was limited but good, it would good if it included vegan sausages and bacon.

Spa is truly disappointing and we paid extra for it, was not worth it at all - just a warm shallow pool (aka hot tub) no bubbles, no depth, pretty pointless and a sauna room. That's it.

I stayed in Room 102 and it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The noise from the club directly below was unbearable – thumping music and shouting until the early hours. I was completely misled and mis‑sold this room. At no point was I warned that it sat above a nightclub.

When I complained to reception, I was told I should “consider myself lucky” the club didn’t go on until 5am, as apparently some nights it does. That is not acceptable customer service. Instead of acknowledging the problem, the hotel tried to brush it off and refused to take responsibility, despite me raising the issue both in person and through emails afterwards.

This company clearly mis‑sells rooms and then denies accountability when guests suffer the consequences. Be very careful before booking – if you value sleep, honesty, and basic respect, look elsewhere.

Þhingholt is a gem of a boutique hotel that offers the quality you’d expect from a Center Hotel. Fantastic location close to everything, set on a quaint side street (but warning: late-night weekend bar/club spillover noise). Photos online are true to the decor and atmosphere: loved the ambiance! Exceptional staff - especially the reception crew, who offered many helpful recommendations during our stay. Very clean rooms, a good breakfast, and a great spa. The welcome plate was lovely, and the ability to visit spas at other Center Hotels was an unexpected treat. I’ll definitely be back.

First off the staff:
I told them it was my wife's birthday and they went out of their way to make her welcome special and unique. Balloons, pastries, and a hand written card wishing her a happy birthday. They made me look like the husband of the year. Cannot thank them enough. Throughout our stay their kindness and good attitude never stopped. Helpful in every capacity.

Secondly, our room:
We reserved the suite with the downstairs living room area. Room was very clean. Smelled good. Decor was tasteful. Slippers and robes for 2 in the closet. Has a safe and a fridge. No microwave. But that was ok. The room was very comfy and welcoming. As was the rest of the hotel.

Third, Food:
Breakfast buffet did not disappoint. Some people say in their reviews the description is misleading about it. I don't know what their problem is but they were either blind or so dang picky they went looking for stuff to complain about. Great taste and all freshly made that morning.

Forth, Location:
We were literally in the heart of everything and anything you could want to do and enjoy for food, bars, and shops. Short walks to many of the best parts of the capital or a quick can ride if it was too cold or windy.

Overall:
5 stars! Hands down. A great place to stay and worth every cent. Much appreciation to the staff. Well done. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

PS: Best part was we were blessed to see the Northern light

The room was clean, but the twin beds were disappointing as they were basically cots with a thin mattress, not up to the quality standard of the rest of the hotel. The room was small, my Gold VIP room upgrade was denied (there were rooms available) and they did not accept American Express. Breakfast included with decent offerings and the staff itself was the reason for the 4 stars

Overall I would definitely stay here again

Pros:
I foound the breakfast quality was higher than a lot of the hotel breakfast buffets I've had, size/variety wasn't the biggest but decent and something for everyone (sausage/scrambled egg/hash browns/beans/bacon, fruit, pastries, bread, ham and cheese, porridge and a selection of toppings, herring, water, juice, tea & coffee and more that I don't remember) but same selection daily
Rooms were clean and comfortable
Staff were all friendly and helpful

Cons:
Shower layout gets half the bathroom floor wet for every shower

Very little privacy in room toilets, frosted glass walls with a foot or so of clear glass at top and bottom, so you can hear everything from the bed

My partner was less impressed with breakfast selection and quality. Fruit was a bit dried out, bananas pre-cut into thirds so had gone brown

Spa/lounge/breakfast room was closed for rennovation while I was there with zero notice until check-in and meant we had to book breakfast slots every day due to limited space, extra noise in the mornings and afternoons audible from the room and temp breakfast/lounge area, and no downstairs toilets, and nothing offered in return. Works were finished by the time we left.

Our flight to Reykjavík was canceled due to the snow storm in Keflavik, and Icelandair couldn’t reschedule us through Keflavik in our allotted time We never got to stay at our rooms though we paid for two nights. Of course we are disappointed, I’m sure the hotel is lovely and staff also. Weather and airline took the opportunity away.

What an amazing hotel and amazing staff. They made our honeymoon trip truly so special. The location right in downtown Reykjavík is so convenient, with so much to do within walking distance. The hotel is also very beautiful and clean. We booked the honeymoon package and they went all out, it was so awesome. All the staff was amazing but just to shout out a couple people in particular - Artur helped us out at the bar and he was so kind and great to chat with. Irene from the front desk was emailing with me ahead of time and she was so helpful and nice. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in visiting Iceland.

Breakfast had many options a d was fulfilling. I stayed in one of the apartments across the street and I absolutely loved it. Clean, spacious, kitchenette, just awesome. Comfortable bed. The only negative is that the streets are noisy at night due to it being close to the downtown. There is one busker on an accordion until 230am that needs to be banned... seriously, he's terrible. He moves around though to different corners. So it's not controllable. I would absolutely book this again. Everything is close walking distance.

The room faced a side street which had no traffic noise from cars but you could hear people yelling, talking loud and laughing at night on the main thoroughfare a block away. Our room was clean and comfortable with the bed and the pillows just to our liking. We still slept well. The hotel location was excellent and we could walk to many places in Reykjavik.
Parking was a learning curve for us. We choose to pick up our vehicle at Keflavík airport and drive to Reykjavik. I had previously downloaded an app for parking in Iceland. The first night we were able to park in front of the hotel which was designated a P1 (the most expensive space). The next day we found a parking lot at the cathedral, a P2. Not exactly close to our hotel - no going back if you left something in the car. After a couple of days of fumbling around, we got the hang of parking
in Reykjavik and using the parking app.
We enjoyed our 4 night stay at this hotel. Every morning we started our day with a hardy breakfast. Food was excellent. My husband could have his typical Midwest fare of eggs, bacon and toast. I preferred the Nordic yogurt, honey and muesli. All very good.!
We also took advantage of the spa and sauna. These were located downstairs and included two changing rooms and showers for men and women. The spa is worth seeing even if you don’t take a soak.

Definitely a wonderful second stay here. Our last day was 10 years ago! The staff all seemed excessively helpful and we're willing to answer all questions/manage any requests to their abilities. Missed out on using the hot tub but really appreciated the option. We will look to stay here again if our plans ever bring us back to iceland. It is a magical country with plenty to see and enjoy. We feel like this location is very convenient to downtown and quite affordable

The room was clean, small but comfortable. I have only one complaint about the room, the mirror in the bathroom was hung so high up. I’m quite petite but I never had this problem. I only saw the top of my head in the mirror.

The front desk staffs were very nice and helpful.

Breakfast was delicious.

There was a bar behind the hotel and the noise was so loud all night till 5 in the morning. We had to open the windows since there’s no air conditioning so I didn’t have a good night sleep.

Went for Pride week and our 3 year anniversary. Hotel was clean, the staff was so incredibly friendly, loved the free breakfast options and the jr suite. Loved the hotel and some of the workers there, especially the two gentlemen at the front desk. There were super attentive and would go out of their way to ensure we had what we needed. I was initially very concerned from all the bad reviews but feel like I got lucky. My double standard room had a big window facing the sunset, which made it feel airy and spacious. I paid for the spa use which was worth it and restorative. Breakfast was plentiful and quality, even for those with dietary restrictions. Staff was always friendly and accommodating. Generally a quiet and restful vibe here. Perfect location. Highly recommend.

Hotel is in a great location downtown, so easy to get around town. They secured our bags on arrival, so that we could visit the city. The room was ready early, so check in was great. Room was clean and quiet. Breakfast was included and very good. They also offer a free drink. We stayed there both pre and post cruise. I would stay there again, if I ever return.

The location is perfect for wonton walking, good breakfast, staff is helpful.
The hallways are very dimly lit, there’s no real way to make it cooler in the rooms and the bed was only 6 inches high off the ground making it very difficult to get in and out of bed.

Breakfast was quite good. Recommend asking for a room not facing the street as think that would be quieter, and there is no biew advantage to street side. Our room faced the street and there was some construction and party noise until quite late each day (construction until just after 9pm and then party noise until 10 or so).

Didn’t know it did not have air conditioning…my fault. Having to leave the windows open at night made the room noisy until fairly late. The exhaust from the fish and chip restaurant made the room smell like old fish fryer oil. The bed was very uncomfortable and very low to the ground. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

Convenient, but poor check in experience

Poor experience at check in. Arrived at a time when group came to check in and while the other front office staff was available, she never offered to check in other guests who were not part of the group. Once the group dispersed, she served other guests who had just walked in and not the ones who were already waiting.

Pretty Pingholt Hotel but not for older folks.

First of all let me say the staff at the Pingholt Hotel was fantastic, very friendly and accommodating. Especially, Hellena who was quite charming and helpful. Also the Breakfast Buffet was quite nice with a nice variety of dishes and all very fresh. Though it can be crowded at times.

We chose the Pingholt because of its location right in the Old Town District of Reykjavik, and because of all the pretty pictures we saw on their website and on Hotels.com. However Pictures can be deceiving. The hotel prides itself as a “Boutique” hotel, which we found out in their case means, very low beds (about 14 inches off the floor) making it very difficult for our mid to late 70’s bodies to get in and out of bed. The beds were comfortable though.

The bath had no counter space for meds, toiletries, cosmetics, etc. We ended up using the ledge of the bathtub as a counter. The shower curtain of the open shower does not extend to the floor, so needless to say water flows out onto the floor.

Though the lighting was better than many of the hotels we have been in lately, it was somewhat glary from some unusual fixtures on the ceiling and especially on the desk, it did no good at all on the desk. The safe is situated about 6 and a half feet off the ground makes it a challenge for those height impaired.

So if you are young and able and traveling light this is a very nice hotel. If you are older and prefer a bed about chair height the Pingholt has some disadvantages. Pingholt and Hot

The hotel was very convenient for exploring Reykjavik. The room was very small and the furnishings were a little old and worn. The breakfast buffet was pretty disappointing, especially compared to the other hotels we stayed at. The food was subpar and not a great variety.
