Very convenient to walking around. Check in was pretty strict on not starting till 2pm however I was able to leave my bags there so I could walk around before checkin. Process was very easy and staff is very friendly and helpful

Nothing fancy, very basic. Clean. But if you just need a place to sleep this worked great. It was short walk to BSI bus station and the main shopping and restaurants.
Website said breakfast was 7am, I was there in September and told they were on winter hours so breakfast was not until 7:30. That is not mentioned anywhere on the website. I had 7:30 bus to catch so that was bit frustrating. Accurate changing on hours should be posted at booking.

This guesthouse was suitable for one night in the city. While the guesthouse was clean, the bedroom was incredibly hot in early September and even with the window open it didn't cool down. I tried to contact the staff via phone calls and messages but no one was able to answer. Also, the bathrooms were really dated and didn't feel super clean.

I was told there would be a private bathroom, but it was 1 between 4 rooms. I had to wait over half an hour for someone to finish a shower, to go to the loo.
No breakfast before 7am which is too late when catching a bus for a trek or to the airport. More like a cheap hostel not a guesthouse

The listing on Expedia clearly says there is free parking at the property, but really there isn’t.
There is -maybe- some free parking at some road a few blocks away, or maybe some free parking at a church nearby - good luck finding those.
The room was cramped, tap water had sewage smell.
Breakfast was nice though.

We stayed here twice. It wasn't flash but was all we needed. Unfortunately both times we had to leave before breakfast was served so unable to comment on that.
It was a shared bathroom but we didn't have any issues with that - it was kept clean and was available when needed.
We had a wee visitor through the window which was fun.

I needed to make a last-minute reservation in Reykjavik and looked at Guesthouse Aurora primarily based on price and location. And it didn't disappoint. I had a clean room, clean shared bathroom and a good breakfast in a safe area very close to Hallgrímskirkja church. They also can do laundry for a cost and hold luggage.

Clean inviting and friendly guesthouse in the heart of Reykjavik. Right by bus stop 8, perfect for tour pick ups, and an easy walk to the Main Street with food. Community pool within walking distance as well. Felt safe and comfortable as a female solo traveler. I stayed in the second building, which was also an apartment building on the other side. I needed 3 keys to get into my room which made me feel extra safe and comfortable. Breakfast was fresh buffet style and perfect to grab before a long day of adventures

We had a great time at Guesthouse Aurora. It is located right next Hallgrimskirkja, shopping, dining, and old Reykjavík. It was a five minute walk to the BSI bus station where many of our day tours left from.We had a kitchenette and were able to cook for ourselves. Everyone was very nice and they allowed us to store our luggage on day one and our last day before and after check in and check out. Breakfast had many options. The price was price was great for all these amenities!

Lovley stay! Very accommodating, simple yet lovley breakfast options with freshly baked bread, the staff was very helpful in any queries. Great thing is that towels were available at any time if you needed more, as well as tea, coffee and water at the kitchen. Well equiped kitchen if you would like to reheat something yourself, theres a microwave and toaster. The surrounding area was fantastic, with the main large church literally 2 minutes down the road, along with the main rainbow walk and restaurants and shops a few minutes further. You could also turn up the heating at any moment in the room and a sink in the room, which was very convinient!
The only downside i can really think of is no air freshener in the bathroom, and there was quite a bit of condensation on the windows which then dripped down the window seal onto the floor, although we spent so little time in the room because we were doing tours that it wasnt really an inconvenience. Great value for money!!

With free parking around the corner and free breakfast in the morning, this place was ideal for a couple of budget travellers. Well stocked kitchen and plenty of EU adapters to borrow if you forgot yours, the building was a bit older but maintained with care. The tenant fridge is on the upstairs, and came in handy with the kitchen downstairs. Very nice fellow guests, lots of diversity and no problems with sharing bathrooms with fellow guests.

The single room I had was good. There is a fridge and sink in the hallway that can be used. Bathroom is modern and clean, shared with other guests. Everything was good; the breakfast buffet is very good, with lots of choices. (The only thing that was not that great was other guests arriving very late at night and being noisy.)

Lovely bed....check in was easy...code for the main reception door....pick up keys with name written and map of where the building was...No 45...very close to the beautiful church.....toilet outside bedroom door shared with other ,2 rooms.....forgot to pick up towel from reception but not a problem.....very warm considering the wind was howling outside....close to city centre and easy to find as you can see the church from everywhere... Definitely stay there again

Located right in the city center next to famous gorgeous Hallgrimskirkja. The check-in process was smooth. Took minutes for the stuff to show us to our room in the next door building which was 20 m walk from the reception.
Stuff was very friendly and helpful. We booked the room with private bathroom, it shared common entrance with 3 other rooms that had share bathroom (no bother for us at all) and we shared the same kitchenet area with coffee maker, electric kettle, medium fridge, sink, plenty of dishes, cups, utensils etc.
The room was spacious enough by European standards. Bathroom with the shower was a bit outdated but functioned well. The beds were comfortable.
The breakfast was served in the main building where reception was, the standard continental variety.
The parking was next-door and free (a big plus in the center of the city), but we were lucky to find nice spot right away, which could be tricky if we were arriving later in the day (we arrived around 4 pm).
Overall - good stay well worth the money paid.

Upon check-in, I was told we were being placed in the property's sister house across the street. We were given a set of keys along with our towels to bring across the street. There were 3 separate doors to get into the property and no explanation as to which keys were for which doors. While this wasn't a huge issue, I found the room itself to be semi-decent. The sheets seemed to be clean although there were a few stains - probably from previous guests. The room itself seemed to be clean otherwise. There was however, a horrible smell coming from the bathroom! The sink was filthy, there was barely any soap in the dispenser and the soap that did come out smelled absolutely horrible. One of the other guests left their menstrual blood on the toilet seat in the morning!!! That is not the guesthouses fault but they could do well by adding in air fresheners. If you do not mind the possible dirtiness from other guests and can do with the smell this was an okay accommodation for one night.

I arrived 15 minutes after the reception hours and was emailed by Aurora to say I’d find my key on the table in the entrance. There was no key as promised. Another guest was in the same predicament. I called and the employee said he was still downstairs (location of reception was not clearly marked.) I received my keys there, one for the building next door and one for my room. Room was clean and remodeled. There is no sink. Shower is in bathroom. Breakfast decent and reached by going downstairs. Basic stay within easy walking distance of the big church, but I would recommend other accommodations if you can get them. I liked Sunna Guesthouse better and it had a personal sink and is next door.

The room was very basic-I was not aware we would be sharing a bathroom; no soap, shampoo or conditioner was provided; the room was approximately 10’ x 10’ with a full size bed; there were many steps to move heavy suitcases; the bathroom did not adjoin the room, rather you had to walk in public space only to find the bathroom in use multiple times; there was an adjoining kitchenette that was to be shared by the occupants of another room; the staff was kind & helpful; the sheets and room were clean; breakfast had good coffee, juices& an assortment of European & American foods (no complaint about the food); we managed.

Nice guest house. They were remodeling and the common kitchen was unavailable, we luckily didn't need it and it smelled dusty because of the construction. The room was clean and the air inside was fresh. The breakfast was fairly good but the staff member was very unpleasant and said that the breakfast started at 7:30 despite the sign in the bedroom saying 7:00. We had to leave at 7:30 so that wasn't super convenient.

I didn't realise how close it is to THE landmark Hallsgrimkirkje or the BSI Bus Station (for airport transfers)! Reykjavik isn't big so most things are easily walkable (in decent weather) and being amidst residential properties, lots of electric scooters.

The room was basic with slightly awkward window mechanism but clean, warm & comfortable. The door on it's swinging hinge was a bit violent on closing but you can't lock yourself out.

Tip for the shower curtain in shared bathroom, it needs to be longer or install a bifold door so the floor remains drier.........
Stairs are also a bit narrow with luggage with reception in the basement. Breakfast is simple \"continental\" style but worthwhile before a long day or touring!!

Our stay was the most terrible stay we had. We have to pick up the key from one building then we have to walk in the cold to look for the building. There were no towels in the room. We went back again to get towels. Property is very dirty. Neighborhood is sketchy and very expensive for the terrible placw. Hotels.com should took this off from your list. They are misleading and lied. It says free self parking then it says ISK 1500 FOR PARKING , we found no free parking. We found parking at church nearby but we have to walk very far in the cold. There was pubic hair in the sink and the bathroom light will turn off itself.

These are simple and slightly small accommodations, but for the price it was well worth it. Clean and comfortable, with a good breakfast and laundry service for 15 euros. This is not a hotel, and the price reflects that. If you want a private bathroom and have their amenities like an elevator, look elsewhere. But if you want a clean and comfortable bed at a good price, this is a great place.

The service was excellent. Chris was amazing, he catered to my every need including helping me with booking excursions. The location of this place is excellent, right in the middle of town. I was able to walk most places and the bus stop is very close as well. What seperates this property from good to excellent was that the bed wasn't the most comfortable, it made my back ache. My room was right near the street so you could hear everything outside the window. In addition, I never seen anyone come clean or empty the trash in the shared bathroom during my stay. Overall decent experience and I would stay here again.

Guesthouse Aurora was the perfect property to stay at for a night out in Reykjavik. Extremely walkable location, we found parking right outside (though something to note is that it is paid parking right outside on weekdays). Decent breakfast, didn’t mind the shared bathroom and there was a sink in the room. Comfortable beds. So convenient, you don’t need much in a room when staying in the city especially given how central it is, everything in Reykjavik is a few min walk or few min drive. I would stay again!

This is really a know before you buy review. The location is great and the parking was easy to find and free, but.... the room was on ground floor and very loud. Walls were thin. Heard lots of snoring and babies crying all night from other rooms. One bathroom for 5 rooms. Waited half an hour for one person to finish using the bathroom in the morning and finally gave up and went to as bakery. The rooms are like a low budget college dorm room. And super hot with only one tiny window for ventilation. Pillows are soft and flat. Everything had an off smell as well. Can't speak to the free breakfast as I was more concerned with finding an open bathroom. Honestly, my absolute least favorite stay in all of Iceland.

This is a no-frills property. My expectations were set accordingly, including the shared bathrooms (there were 3 other rooms sharing the same bathroom). We arrived while breakfast was being served so it was easy to chat with the person that was tending to breakfast for check-in questions. But we also received good instructions for self-check-in beforehand. We stayed in the building across the street. The hand-out hotel map given to us was not easy to understand due to it not being to scale and because the door we needed to go in had a different street name on it (the entry foyer had nothing indicating Aurora displayed). We wandered up the road a bit based on the scale of the map. After about 10-15 minutes of that we asked the person tending breakfast to help and he courteously walked us to the door we needed to use. Yes, the hot water smells (as another reviewer pointed out), but this is universal in all buildings in Reykjavik due to the hot water coming direct from hot springs that have sulfur content. The rooms are along the street and you get a good amount of walking voice noise and car noise (bring ear plugs). Linens and facilities were clean. Parking is on street. We were unsure about it being free even though the hotel staff advised it was. But we had no issues finding a space right in front and did not get a ticket. Good proximity to city center. Check out was easy - just drop keys off. Breakfast was good and adequate with seating capacity a bit tight.

The rooms were large.
Yes the guesthouse has three houses - the main one, one next door and one across the street. Its not a big deal the receptionist literally shows you were it is and what it looks like on google maps.
Yes it can get noisy - its shared accommodation. Maybe I have a filtered lens from recently being in University accommodation - but just buy ear plugs. Its not inconvenient at all.

Everything went fine except we were told we could ask to get a to go breakfast since we left at 4 am. We were allowed access to peanut butter, jelly bread and cookies before we left.

Great location, street parking

The Guesthouse is right in the center, close to a lot of sight s. Walking to great Restaurants and shopping. Self checkout and in was great, room was clean, breakfast good. The only downside is that there was no dedicated parking space, there is free street parking, but we had to park two blocks away, because there were no spaces in front of the Guesthouse.

My friend and I booked a twin room on two separate nights at Guesthouse Aurora, at the start and the end of our short break around Iceland. We chose the guesthouse for its location, as it is just around the corner from Hallsgrimskirkja and a very easy walk to many cafes. bars and restaurants, with the harbour only around a 15 minute walk, and we had a great time exploring the city on foot. Parking at the guesthouse is free on-street parking and we were lucky to find a close spot on both days of arrival, but parking is not guaranteed so guests may need to park a few streets away to find a spot.

I was sent a key code shortly before arrival so we could let ourselves into the main building where reception and the breakfast room are located (allows for late self-check in), and the staff who checked us in were friendly and helpful.

The guesthouse is split across three neighbouring buildings, which is a little unusual, and we stayed in two different buildings on our two nights, which were firstly directly across the street from the main building, and secondly directly next door to the main building. Both rooms were clean, quiet and fairly comfortable, with basic furnishings and the use of a little kitchenette. Breakfast items (buffet) were topped up promptly even when very busy. I'd be happy to return to Guesthouse Aurora if visiting Reykjavik again as the location was ideal and it was priced well for the facilities on offer.
