The building itself is older which is fine but overall needs a makeover. The walls appeared dirty and the bathroom itself was hard to tell if the grout was just old or moldy.
The water in the shower smelled strange and in turn made the building smell strange if multiple showers were taken at once.
The bed was one of the most uncomfortable I have ever had.
The parking is misleading and on the street.
The hot tub was luke warm and didnt not appear clean.

Great place for overnight stay. Clean, comfortable, good location, good WiFi. Check in was little complicated. We didn’t receive any communication from the owner before arrival, so have no access code to the property and our room number. Had to call on the spot. It was resolved quickly though.

While the room was clean and check-in instructions were clear, nothing else was very good. The shared bathroom was out of toilet tissue the whole time I was there, I reached out to staff and received no response. The bathroom was also quite unclean, peoples clothes were strung about, and lots of personal items.

Not quite what we expected but very clean place. We ended up on the top floor and the shared washroom to ourselves. The ad mentions parking on site but it’s really street parking and we had to park two blocks away so that was frustrating in the rain. Never heard back from the host when trying to message them. Beds were comfortable!

It’s an older property, and therefore a little less soundproofed than well-built modern places, but that doesn’t detract from the comfort. It’s clean, the beds are incredibly comfortable, and we weren’t left wanting for anything. The centre of the eating and shopping area is a short and pleasant walk away.

We enjoyed this Guesthouse immensely! It was close to town, making the city walkable, near bus stops to catch Hop-on-and-off Bus, or walk to the Harbor. It was clean, easy to find, and very comfortable! Shared bathrooms, but very clean too. We will use again!

This was a lovely place in years past but has probably changed management. We did not get any check-in information in advance, just an email reminding us of check-out time, so we had to call someone and wait on the sidewalk in the rain for him to come let us inside. While checking in we overheard two couples who had reservations but were being told that the guesthouse had no rooms for them. We felt lucky that we at least got a room.

The room and bathrooms were clean but not supplied adequately: there were no hand towels in the common bathroom, and while there was a sink and towels in the room, there was no soap. The room was rather loud, both from outdoor noise and other guests coming and going in the middle of the night.

Considering everything in Iceland costs an arm and a leg this place was affordable and overall just okay. The room was spacious but there is nobody actually here so if you need help with anything good luck, in our case one of our windows lacked a blind curtain or anything. Normally this would not be a big deal however consider that the Sun set at 12 am and rose again at 3 am… Yeah so none of us slept well at all. I emailed about this issue with no response. Was looking forward to the hot tub but it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a month and after 5 min was no warmer than some bath water (plus no bubbles). Place was overall as I said okay I’m not a picky person but when the sun is steaming in my face at 3:30 am I get a little upset. See photo taken at 4:30 am for reference as too the brightness without a blind on the window.

Tried to communicate with them for 5 days before my trip to Iceland. I needed some info about getting in and storing my bags from my early morning/overnight flight while I went on a tour. Messaged them 3 times and didn’t get any response. I ended up booking somewhere else and ate my cost cause I couldn’t cancel. I finally received a message after my check in time (which was 8 hours after I arrived in Reykjavik. Poor communication. Would not recommend.

i stayed here with my brother and my friend. the room and property was quiet and we felt safe the whole time. a shared washroom was just outside our room, which was very convenient. parking is on the street and when we arrived, there were no spots left. so we had to drive around quite a bit before we found a spot! overall and excellent stay and did the job: a safe place to rest before we continued on our way.

This property is well located, and clean. If you are a young traveller who does not mind being up all night.
This is clearly a party house, hot tub was used till the very early morning.
There is a kettle in your room but no cups or spoons.
There was no key in the door when we arrived so we had to leave our stuff in an unlocked room or miss our excursions. When we reported this the staff they were reluctant to tell us when it would be resolved and we had to chase three more times to get and locate the key.
I have to say Iceland is so beautiful that this did not dampen our spirits but the other noisy thoughtless guests meant no sleep really for four nights.

In the end the room we ended up with was fine. Thought we were getting a shared bathroom accommodation but ended up with the entire 1st floor apartment. Though that wasn't clearly communicated right away. Biggest drawback is the proximity to the street. The windows are paper thin and we could hear everyone walk past them in the night.

This property made my dream come true. I was asked if I wanted to receive calls for northern lights, and the staff called every guest like me. Additionally, the breakfast was excellent, hot tub and sonar rooms etc were also great. It was definitely the top one hotel in my entire journey!!!

We booked a room for three people. The website said it is a room with 1 queen bad and 1 twin bed. We first received an email saying our room is #6 on the second floor, then we received another email later saying our room is #3 which is on the first floor. There is only one queen bed. We have to drag out a floor mat from a dirty stock room and let our son sleep on it. In addition, there is no napkins nor tissues provided in the room. Better bring your own if you choose to stay here.

I've stayed at Baldursbrá in the past, having visited Iceland 17 times now. It's a great solution if you just need a place to stay, perhaps in transit to the airport or as a base for exploring. It's a self-check-in guesthouse, so that's convenient, but of course, it lacks character and charm as a result. Great for sleeping, and perhaps you might try the hot tub in the garden too.

Older reviews talk about a host family, which appears to have changed now. During my stay it was an unstaffed property. That's common in Reykjavik, but it created a few problems.
Upon arrival you walk in the unlocked door and check for your name on a whiteboard. My name wasn't there, so I phoned the property number. They were efficient and offered me a better room by way of apology. I then had a phone call from the property at midnight, which woke me up. I missed it so phoned back, apparently it was a mistake. Next day I got an email, which was checkin instructions for another resident. I just ignored it.
The next day I had another call, double checking which room I was in. So all in all, organisation was pretty poor, although the people I spoke to were pleasant.
Otherwise this is excellently located, central and in a nice area, with free parking (rare).
My room was in the Garden House, which is a two floor structure on the building's side. Unlike the main building it is wooden framed with corrugated metal, which means it creeks terribly when people walk around. That meant I didn't get great sleep. The room however was nicely furnished and very clean.
Overall, the property was good value, but there is a need for things to become a bit better organised.

A very uncomfortable experience. Firstly a triple room was booked and paid for but I was allocated a double room. Things looked clean at first but under beds it was very dusty and there was other guests trash. The room in the Garden House shared a bathroom with four other rooms. The bathroom was a disaster, the shower flooded before I could use it and the large and heavy sink was dangerously unstable on its legs. The bathroom was unusable and the guesthouse management unreachable. I had to use a bathroom in the main house that was unclean. With such high number of people sharing bathrooms, a single daily cleaning is simply not enough. I requested a partial refund to compensate for this experience and Hotels.com reached out to the guesthouse management on my behalf - management refused to provide any compensation. Very disappointing since this place is so well reviewed - a gesture of acknowledgment of this negative experience would have changed everything - I understand things can go wrong but the way things were handled was not great.

We loved our stay here. We got a cabin in the back and it was more than we expected (a well stocked kitchenette - we expected some shared spaces) and beautiful. This place also included breakfast and was our most affordable stay in our entire trip (others charged more and did not include breakfast). We also got to see the northern lights while here and the surroundings are beautiful. We took a short 7 minute drive to the bridge to watch the lights dancing by the water and mountains. Both concierge members were friendly and willing to help! Highly recommend!

Great affordable gem at a brilliant location. It has self-check-in and I didn´t receive any instructions before arriving so it took me a few minutes to find the board with the instructions on the wall. Once I found that it was easy. It is a very homely guesthouse with everything you need. I´ll definitely use this guesthouse again.

It's a very cute and very homey place, we felt welcome here. We had a three person room on the the top floor under the roof, very cute. The room has a sink and three separate beds, two of the mattresses were very comfy. We all slept really good. There is one shared bathroom per floor, but on our floor was just one other room. Free breakfast in the morning was also good. There is plenty of free street parking nearby and you can easily walk everywhere in Reykjavik. I would come again.

\"Warm Reykjavik reception\" at 5 degrees!

We had a warm welcome by a young friendly lady LUCA (even that we came to the guesthouse early morning) She let us store our luggage and even our personal bags in the kitchen when check in was only at 2 pm.
We could enjoy our day without worrying about our luggage and when coming back later, Luca even had brought our \"heavy\" suitcases and personal bags up into our room! Wow what a service!
Early morning there was tea available, crackers and marmalade! Thank you!

Like staying with your favorite aunt!

We stayed in a number of guesthouses in Iceland and most were new and of a modern design. This guesthouse is like staying with your favorite aunt - older, a bit cluttered, but very homey and comfortable. Our room (#2) was upstairs on the corner and it was quite large with a sink, a queen bed and a twin bed. The bathroom was large with a good shower. Breakfast was terrific! Lots to choose from and really good coffee. The owner is very helpful and she has two sweet dogs. There are two spaces specifically for parking and the rest is free street parking. At times that might be a little challenging, so keep that in mind. We didn't move our car since it was easy walking distance to city center. Overall, we were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay. I would definitely stay here again!

Didn’t actually stay here. They bumped me to a different house about 10 minutes away with 1 day notice. I chose this place partly on the location and the new place was not as convenient. The new place had a broken toilet our entire stay which was pretty awful when you’re already sharing, now a staircase is involved. The room didn’t have sufficient place for clothing storage for 2 people. The blackout curtain was too short so when in bed you see the midnight sun all night long. It faced a traffic circle and was rather noisy. The breakfast was fine, the place was clean, the WiFi worked, the woman in charge was friendly even though she didn’t get the toilet fixed over the 3 days we were there.

This is the perfect mix between hostel and hotel. You get your own private room, but a shared bathroom with the three other rooms on your floor. You can spend time meeting the staff and other guests in more friendly terms, or you can just come and go. Felt much more like someone opened up their home to me and other travelers to do as we will. I enjoyed my time there.
