Room were filthy and dirty, bad smell coming from the toilet so bad we bought a toilet deodoriser to cover it. Poor lighting in the room. No microwave or anywhere to heat food or drinks. The shower head was broken and couldn’t stay up. Toilet so close to the sink my husband couldn't fit properly. Beds were a little shirt for a 5'10 person. Elevator so small 5 people barely fit and so slow we tried the stairs but regretted that because every level is held up with scaffolding.

Barely above a hostel

Front desk had no record of our reservation. I had to show my confirmation email in order to get a room. Instead of the 2 twin beds I requested, we were given a single queen bed. The mattress was uncomfortably firm, and the pillows were flat and hard. There was no bath mat in the bathroom to absorb water, and not even an extra towel (1 hand towel for 2 people). The walls are bare and the place looks like a dump.

Great location but room issues and poor security.

Great location, and reasonably priced compared to other hotels in Rome. The room was spacious, reasonably clean, but not very comfortable. The air conditioning did little to alleviate the heat. The refrigerator was like a cupboard as it had no affect of the temperature of drinks. Slats were missing from a double bed, and another popped our during our stay. The cupboard didn’t have doors and the front of one of the drawers came off every time we tried to open it. Our main concern was the door to the room. When locked it could be pushed open with a shove due to a loose strike plate in the doorframe. We mentioned it on two mornings but nothing was done about it. We didn’t feel safe leaving valuables in our room which was an inconvenience.

Pillows/bedding were absolutely terrible. Elevator was the slowest I’ve ever seen. AC wasn’t working, but opening the windows makes it impossible to sleep due to nearby roads and constant car honking. Overall not bad for the price, very convenient placement close to everything

I’ll start with the good. The hotel is in a great location, a short walk from the train station and then to the tourist attractions. The breakfast was ok, did the job in the morning. The hotel was run down. Almost everything in the room was broken. The fridge did not work and when asked the staff said it looked fine, drinking warm beer not a fan of.
I would say it was ok but for a few extra dollars I would recommend staying elsewhere if possible.

Clean comfortable safe and exceeded expectations

We had a comfortable stay for our Rome holiday. The hotel was in a great location only 3 minutes walk to Termini station. Plenty of shops and restaurants and takeaways nearby. We felt very safe during daytime and early evenings in and around the area. The hotel itself is slightly dated but I found it clean, comfortable and my mattress was especially good and firm so I settled in very well quickly.

Upon first arrival the room appeared to be clean however, on closer inspection, the walls were dirty, 2 pillows were mouldy and the top sheet was dusty. We had problems with the door as it appeared to be kicked in and hadn't been repaired even though we had asked them to fix it. The blankets were ripped in places and the shower head was broken and had to be carefully positioned in order to stay upright. Broken powerpoint and exposed wires. The fan blades were dusty.

DO NOT STAY HERE!

We booked this hotel because it looked okay from the pictures and the descriptions. The room we booked was totally different than the room gave us. Worst of all of the issues, the mattress was so incredibly uncomfortable and the beddings condition was gross with blood/urine stains on them. I booked this hotel because the price was reasonable but it wasn’t the cheapest hotel out there so I was expecting it to be average but no, it was the most unhygienic and uncomfortable and unpleasant hotel that I stayed in. Save yourself the struggle and DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS HOTEL.

This is an older, smaller hotel close to the train station. I choose this place mostly due to it's close proximity to the train station since we had a late arrival into Rome. We only stayed here for two nights and I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer. The staff was very friendly. The room we stayed in was small and outdated but clean- absolutely nothing fancy. It was fine for what we needed.

This is an older property and there were a few things that were less than ideal (mainly a few of our beds were a bit hard to sleep on and one of our power outlets was loose in the wall). Still, these inconveniences did not detract much from our overall stay. Hotel is two blocks away from the metro/bus station and all tour bus operators, has a decent selection of eateries around the area, a parking garage one block away, and friendly staff. Thank you!

This property is dated(old) and cramped, beds are hard, towels old, one actually ripped while using. If you don’t mind this, it’s a good value for the prime location.. however there are many other hotels near by.. A/C did not work.. it worked for us for only one night.. I suggest find another place if you’re staying longer…

The staff serving breakfast were pleasant.
Everything to do with this hotel was about saving money,
The linen and towels were changed every 3 days due to ecological reasons but you can pay €2 for each extra towel you need.
Breakfast was very limited to the extent that the staff handed it to you on a pre-prepared tray. 1 pastry 1 cup for a hot drink and 1 cup for a cold drink.
You not allowed anything else extra.
When i booked this hotel it stated on the hotel description it stated no pets. But we had barking from the room next to us and from a room 3 doors away.
Would not book this hotel again.

This was convenient to train station and plenty of activities near by and we felt safe. Unfortunately, we found some bugs on 2 of the 3 beds, followed by confirmation of baby to adult sized bedbugs coming from behind the wall mounted headboard and outlet plugs. The staff seemed very new and still learning (along with a language barrier) so we were not able to communicate the issue.

Great location and easy access for budget travel

This is a good budget alternative for the economy minded traveler. The hotel staff and location are excellent for easy train entry into the city from the airport or outside of Rome. I would recommend to the staff that they use a capful of bleach in the wash water used for cleaning the shower. This would reduce the mold common in humid climates like Rome.

The property from the outside looked disappointing. On entering my fears was confirmed. The reception was filled with boxes and looked very uninviting. The safe as stated in the room, was in fact in the reception with small boxes. Not safe for your valuables, and easy to get to if someone wanted to take your things.
The room was not like the picture, and was dirty and mouldy. It smelt musty and the towels showed spiders had made a nest. The air condition did not work, and there was no tea or coffee facilities. The window was overlooking a courtyard full of rubbish. The bathroom, was mouldy, dirty tiles, floor was dirty, toilet seat broken, and no way of filling the sink if you wished to wash. Very outdated room, not like any of the pictures. Didnt feel safe or comfortable. The door to the room, had been forced and the lock wouldnt keep anyone out if pushed. Classico style more like a room that the down and outs of the city would stay.

The only good thing I can mention about this hotel is the excellent location. On the other hand, the appearance of the bedrooms is not so beautiful. The mattress is so uncomfortable and hard. The sheets and quilt are very thin and you die of cold and doesn't sleeep.

The hotel has very nice staff. The young gentleman at the reception was very attentive and pleasant. Hotel itself was clean housekeeping came everyday and clean the room. Hotel location perfect for us we love walking so we went everywhere by foot also train station was 3 minutes away and that was absolutely perfect as we didn’t had walk with luggage far at all. For a 2 star hotel I have to say they do perfect if not exceptional. We definitely come back. My daughter and I loved it there.

The place was ok but definitely needs updating. After awhile it feels comfortable but it kind of scared me on how run down it looked like. The lobby, room and elevator area. I was just happy I got my own bathroom. There was not enough light in the room and I kind of did not like how I had to leave the key all the time with the desk every time I left the place. Other than that the staff was nice and helpful. The bathroom looks clean but I was still worried that it was not. For a short stay it was good but next time probably choose a different area of Rome to stay in. Price is good for what it was.

The hotel was a little bit tatty around the edges, i.e. décor, but it was clean and comfortable, the staff friendly. A budget hotel is its description. A little way out from the main attractions 20 min walk to Trevi Fountain, 35 min Walk to Vatican. However, it is only 5 min walk from Termini Station and the airport shuttle bus stop. The walking proved to be an advantage because you come across some great gems you might otherwise miss nearer the centre of town. Overall recommended for a great budget holiday.

Fabulous little 2 star Hotel. Everything was clean, secure, friendly staff, breakfast was great. A few fixtures in the room needed attention but other than that it was ideal for the price in the centre of Rome! 24hour checkin we arrived 15mins to midnight from the airport with no problems! The a/c was lacking. The walls had strange markings on it. There was hair on the floors. When I asked about the airport shuttle they advertise, the man at the front desk shrugged his shoulders and said taxi. If they don't offer the shuttle, they shouldn't advertise they do. Not the cleanest place and therefore feel they charge too much.

The best thing about this hotel is the position. It’s a few minutes walk from Termini train station and about 20 minutes walk to the Coliseum and Trevi Fountain.
Everything is mediocre about this hotel. The bathroom could’ve been cleaner. I don’t think the Cleaner has a vacuum cleaner.
The free WiFi is incredibly quick. 84mbps
Considering the price it’s worth it. But don’t expect luxury.

We arrived at the hotel to find that the worst reviews were all true, dilapidated and old was bad enough but there were random hairs in the showers (we rented two rooms), sinks and on the floors. The underneath of the bed were filthy with dust and I found an odd sock under one!

I’d strongly recommend you do not make the mistake we did and book this place, the building is awful, as was the breakfast we had there - or should I say left.

Upon leaving we were charged a couple of euros for holding our bags which I felt was reasonable, but while we were out in the city I realised I had left a reem of bus tickets and also 8 train tickets for our group. In essence after calling ahead to the hotel and checking when we got back I realised they had been stolen by the cleaning lady! The front desk were unhelpful and frankly didn’t care. I was shown up to the room by the cleaner to prove they weren’t there after the room had been ‘cleaned’.

Avoid this place I can’t stress it enough

Close to Termini, okay for the price

The hotel is very close to Termini Station which make it real easy to go to and from the station when needed, the hotel is clean overall, it has an tiny elevator which is a plus, however if you are big and tall, you will probably wont fit with two big suitcases, the first night I stayed they didn't give me the remote control for the AC unit, the front desk wanted to charge me 17 Euros per night I didn't agree to it, and the second night they did give me the remote without a charge.
The beds are not comfortable at all, which make it real hard to sleep at night, but if you are tired from walking you will just pass out but don't expect to get any rest.
The bathroom is something else, I don't even know how to describe it, the toilet is inside the shower area, you can literally sit in the toilet and take a shower (lol), I found it real funny but uncomfortable, the water pressure is poor.
Breakfast, just like any other Italian breakfast, not much, toast, sweet bread, coffee, juice, nothing to die for.
The personnel was kind and assisted me when required, besides the first night they wanted to charge me for the AC remote control.

Very convenient to Termini; has the street ambiance of Rome although it is definitely an older hotel. The walls in the halls show the age, but my room was immaculate. Breakfast was excellent, although it didn’t open until 7:30 am. For 2 Euros per item, they will hold baggage which is a great deal for people with late day flights to be able to get in more hassle free touring of Rome.

5 in a room for rugby visit 3 days. Beds rearranged on arrival & extra sheets new bed made up with no quibble approach. Pleasant staff , helpful Bella Donna serving breakfast. Central location helpful for train station & some sites. Hotel clean , and rooms made up daily. Yes a basic accommodation and good price given breakfast included. Simply nothing adverse to say which is an honest assessment & rating & summed up by would use again.

The hotel is very good for the price. The breakfast is typical Italian (sweet) and good enough. The staff is very kind and always on your disposal to help. There is a metro just 3 min away, which is very convenient. There are few “Osterias” very close to the hotel and in very good price. I have no complains, it is spacious and clean. And the wi fi is good.

the hotel is dull and gloomy and totally outdated on first impression in the reception, that impression didn't change and if anything got worse. Going up the hallway to my room it was freezing cold and there was dirty laundry lying in piles along the floor as well as a unit set right outside the lift. On entering my room 1st thing i noticed was the smell, it smelt of stale cigarette smoke.i turned on the light and my worst nightmare had come true...The paint was flaking off the walls the furniture was totally outdated and chunks taken out of it and the bathroom was not nice at all. above the shower there was mould growing on the wall,the shower head was broken and all mould also. Under the sink was was mould everywhere and it was disgusting.I had booked this at very short notice for 2 nights as my flights had been cancelled due to the snow but couldn't wait to leave. Next morning i went down to breakfast and there was one lady whom was ignorant and turned her back on me when i asked her for a cup. I looked around to see what the quality of the food was like but there was very little selection in fact i only seen 3 danish pastries and cereal. I decided not to eat anything checked out as quickly as i could. I asked for a refund as i wasn't going to be staying the 2nd night as 1 night from hell was enough but was told because i booked through Expedia i couldn't get a refund on my 2nd night...I didn't care tbh at that point i just wanted out of there. Never book this hotel!!!

Location was perfect for being close too Termini rail station, staff were very helpful and the room was ok for a budget stay. Colosseum, Trevi fountain and Spanish steps were within a 20 minute walk.

Location in Rome was good. Hotel was a disaster.

Had a 3-day stay. Room was only cleaned once. They didn't give us a time to be out of the room for them to clean and then said it was over time to clean. Trash cans were overflowing. Breakfast was good, but only two of us made it. The safe was in the lobby and you couldn't access it unless the staff was there with their safe key.

Will NOT recommended

Front desk staff were the most unfriendly people I have ever encountered. Charged for Air Conditioning plus bathroom not working at properly. Complaining didn't help. No WIFi available in rooms even though web page said there were. Once our family decided not to stay there, we were charged for a night extra for breaking a contract. Will NOT recommend anyone to ever book a room here.

The location is great, 250 metrem from Termini, 1,2km to Colosseo. The neighbourhood is safe. Nice restaurants nearby. Hotel staff was always very Nice and helpful. If you look for a nice hotel in a good price, you should definitely choose Altavilla :)

We loved the location of this hotel as it is extremely central. As a couple who love to walk and experinse the sites we could not ask for better. We will go back to stay at Altavilla for the kindness experienced from the staff.

Extremely good for the price

Excellent location for anyone travelling from Termini Station. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Bedroom and bathroom were cleaned every day.
