This is a truly lovely property and I would give it 5 stars but for one thing.

There is no trash or refuse bin in the room, there is only a tiny one in the bathroom, and it is attached to the wall under the counter. It's too narrow to fit anything of substance into it and very difficult to reach. And if someone in your party is using the bathroom, then you are just out of luck.

We tried asking the front desk for a bin for the room. It was a request they could not understand. After a great deal of explaining why we felt we needed another trash bin, she promised to bring up a bag for us to use. Ok, that would be fine.... but she did not keep her promise. We resorted to using the laundry bag from the armoire.

This may seem like a simple thing, but in a hotel that is otherwise classy and costly, this should be an easy ask. But it was not possible for them to provide anything other than the tiny bin that was very difficult to open and insert anything large in.

They don't provide hair conditioner, but I have learned by now not to expect this to be provided in Dutch hotels and bring my own.

Other than this, the lobby is beautiful (but I never saw anyone relaxing there because the bar is downstairs) and the breakfast very nice.

What a wonderful place to stay , ground floor rooms off entrance hallway doubles as an impressive art gallery . Staff are great ( i was having trouble switching on my tv , probably my fault, but reception staff solved the issue a after i raised it with them ).:Double room with patio was high quality and the breakfast was a splendid banquet. A fine supper was enjoyed at the restaurant and i also found good places to eat lunch and dinner within walking dustance of hotel, check out forest surrounding hotel; special with wild deers therein. This is a beautiful converted mansion built in in 1909, recently modernized. Great for relaxing get away or longer stay to explore the Netherlands. The gardens lead to a National Park. It is about 25 km outside Amsterdam but there is easy access to the city (25 mins every 30 min) as well as other locations by train from Sandpoort Nord station. Hotel will arrange taxis (however taxi to Amsterdam is €100 one way compared with €8 roundtrip on train. The staff are great with helpful suggestions on trips and restaurants. Hotel restaurant is excellent for dinner. Bar is open as an alternative. Breakfast (cooked or continental) is included, substantial and high quality. Lunch is on the patio (weather permitting). Boschbeek is local restaurant that provides traditional Dutch food, and is easily reached by bike (available at hotel). Bistro Bar Indonesia (https://www.bistrobarindonesia.nl/en/home/) in Haarlem is highly recommended (accessible by bike, taxi or train). Spa facilities are very good but only open at 3 PM on week days. Rooms with en suite bathrooms are reasonably spacious and well appointed (request room on 1st floor with view of the gardens and the park). Overall - highly recommended, would stay there again. For Formula One fans, hotel is close to the Dutch Grande Prix track - crew and some drivers stay at this hotel. Book early, room rates likely to be very expensive!

Amazing escape close to Amsterdam

The hotel is beautiful and you feel like you are in a different world, even though it is so close to Amsterdam. Staff was amazing and created an awesome experience, always positive and smiling. Definitely recommend to everyone who wants to escape a bit from a crowded city and relax close to nature.

It was rather different to the usual Hotel,it was made up of a historic setting, having originally a `castle hence it
existed on a number of quaint stair cases and corridors.The bedroom was large and spacious.It was well worth finding out about this Hotel set in lovely wood and green fields

Historic mansion with spa next to national park

The hotel is in a very nice location . Close to Amsterdam, Haarlem and Schiphol. It also borders a national park which is great for biking and hiking. The building looks like a small castle. There is ample parking. There is a spa which was included in our rate.
The bistro has good food , but for a really good meal, try the Michelin star restaurant ‘vrienden van jacob’.
The only drawback was that our room was on the other side of the building which involved elevators, stairs and walking through the bistro.

This is my third stay at the hotel and it is still a winner. We reserved tables at DenK and the food and service was truly amazing. I encourage everyone to try the market dinner.

This time our room was a Classic and I missed the extra space of the Patio room but the bed and bedding was wonderful and the separate toilet and shower rooms afforded privacy. The older room had more authenticity. The staff were friendly and professional If not warm.

Breakfast was great although the scrambled eggs were disappointing. The selections were broad and well chosen. Particularly liked the comb of honey.

We made sure we saved time in our schedule to tour the attached national park, which provides amazing walks and bike trails as well as horse trails, with nearby stables.

Parking was simple, easy, free and safe, not covered. Finding the hotel was fine in automobile with GPS. There is a train stop nearby, most reasonably fit people would be able to walk.

Overall, I hope to stay again and plan time for the wellness options as well!

A beautiful old mansion set on lovely grounds. Delicious but expensive (22 euro) breakfast. Room was clean and comfortable, although room styling was not my style (de gustibus non disourandum). The common areas were interesting and lovely. A weekend night rate was expensive (280 euro) but all in all a nice place.

beautiful chateau and surrounding land in a great location north of haarlem not so far from the beach and dunes. Nice spa center with sauna, steam and hot-tub. Good restaurant but not cheap. Although the hotel uses the photo of the beautiful old house, most of the rooms are in the modern wing which has an unusual maze-like system of corridors: not very good circulation: you have to go a long way and get lost to get somewhere close. So you are paying alot for a nice but modern habitation. Not good for young kids: more of a business person suited establishment and isolated far from any town amenities. Bicycles were extra: as much as my rental car a day. Breakfasts are great but expensive and extra. Why can't they include the bikes and include the breakfast?

Good venue for a wedding.

We stayed at this hotel for a wedding and it is set in an old manor house with some nice grounds to walk around. There are two sets of rooms in this hotel - some in the old manor house which are spacious and bright, and then there are some in a newer block which are smaller with less natural light. Unfortunately the room we were given were in the newer part of the hotel which I was a little disappointed with and if I was to return I would try to ensure I got one of the rooms in the manor house. The new section of the hotel is a little bit of a maze and finding your room can be a bit tricky, plus it does involve quite a walk to get from reception to those rooms which older relatives of the party found a struggle with heavy bags so it is worth asking for the staff to help with luggage if you have difficulty walking etc. In general the hotel is a nice place to stay with free parking and wifi. Breakfast comes at an extra cost, and whilst it is a nice breakfast, it a little on the expensive side. It terms of room comfort - the bed was comfy and the bathroom and shower were good. On the downside the rooms were obnoxiously warm which made getting to sleep quite hard.

This hotel was lovely from the park setting, alfresco dining and elegant architecture. The service was wonderful. The staff was friendly and helpful. We used this hotel as home base and traveled all over since everything we wanted to see was 20 minutes to an hour from Santpoort Nord including the Keukenhof Gardens.

Nice setting, excellent Bistro, staff not helpful and not interested in helping guests when they have other activities (wedding) to take care off!
The rooms were very well appointed and the food at the bistro was excellent.

Stunning!

Gorgeous grounds and hotel, staff very good and helpful. Glad I found this online. We took a cruise out of Ijmuiden which was only 15-20 minutes away by cab. From Amsterdam airport we took 2 trains and walked 5 minutes to get there. Best to travel with lighter luggage than we were carrying for 2 weeks unless you take a taxi to get there from the airport.

Quiet, great food, lovely surroundings, parking

We stayed 12 days. We were in the newer part of the hotel. Beds were VERY comfortable, breakfast a lovely buffet with eggs if you timed it right but otherwise delicious cold cuts, cheeses, breads, sweet rolls, yogurts, fruit. Fruit available all day.
We ate in the wonderful one star Michelin restaurant twice... Divine. We ate in the bistro several evenings, also very good. We walked in the dunes park immediately adjacent several times.
We always got good parking even when we returned late.
short drive to the train station, 20 -30 minutes drive to the beach but you could also bike or walk to the beach throught the dunes. Lovely old ruins nearby to visit.

Perfect hotel for a romantic evening

This was our third time staying at this brilliant hotel. We come every spring to see the tulip gardens at the Keukenhof. Every stay here has been wonderfully romantic. I suggest getting a room in the main house with a view of the gardens. In addition both restaurants are absolutely wonderful, serving deliciously made gourmet dishes. There is a cozy little lounge, and outside a lovely pond which always has a family of baby ducks in the spring.

I brought my mom here for a short trip and it was absolutely incredible. I was so impressed with the staff. We accidentally forgot something at the hotel and realised it was missing when we got to the train station. A member of staff actually drove to the station to come bring it to us. They also were very helpful with directing us and organising travel

Great hotel, but was unable to get a table in the brasserie restaurant, which was very dissapointing. However reception advised a local restaurant, and it was fantastic. We could have eaten in the michelin star restaurant in the hotel, but this would have been too expensive and not enough quatity of food for us fatties!

The accommodations were excellent. However, we were very disappointed with the availability of the bikes. Apparently, the folks who had reservations for a \"package deal\" have priority. This meant that we only had the bikes available if the package people were not using them. I understood from your website that the hotel had bikes and they would be available to the guests. This was simply not the case. This was very disappointing. I will be writing a letter to the hotel management as well.

Fantastic location, outstanding food, good rooms, shame some of the staff don't measure up to the standard of the hotel. Some of the reception staff had no idea what was going on in the area. We asked about horse riding as there were stables literally across the road from the hotel and were met with a blank stare! We asked at reception in the evening about a day trip to Amsterdam and were given information as to where to go, what to see. The next morning we asked for directions to the station but discovered when we arrived that the train service was suspended due to track maintenance. The reception staff informed us that parking in Amsterdam was expensive but didn't quantify this. Our all day car park was 30 euro, which is what I would expect to pay. Rather than say \"it's expensive\", which is their impression, give a rough estimate. What is expensive to them may not be the same for others - we live in London so this was not too bad. The remote control for the television did not operate as the batteries were flat.Unacceptable for this type of hotel! When I rang reception to arrange replacement the kindly came and collected the remote but didn't return it for over an hour, by which time I rang reception and told them not to bother as we were now going to sleep.

I absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. It is a beautiful estate definitely worth visiting. The staff were very helpful and we enjoyed the fact that we could rent bicycles to explore the surrounding area. Definitely gives you a taste of the Dutch country side.

The old building had lots of character, and is located in a wonderful park area. The front-desk and restaurant staff are very pleasant and helpful, and the restaurant food is very good. HOWEVER, we were placed in the new wing, and the room was extremely hot - particularly as the room staff (for reasons beyond comprehension) seem to enjoy cranking up the thermostat even when the room (which was not air-conditioned) was being heated by the sun through the window; this made for less than ideal sleeping conditions!

If traveling by car it is a unique place to stay in a quiet location. Easy drive to lots of attractions. My only complaint was when I booked I thought I would be staying in the old mansion, but they actually have a modern wing of rooms built off the back of this place. This is where the budget rooms are located. Also they have old style door keys on heavy key rings instead of card readers which I thought was strange. Overall the grounds were beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

While in a remote area the hotel has easy access to a train station and is less than an hour by car to any attraction in the greater Amsterdam area. The hotel itself is an old country mansion with exquisite grounds. It was cold while we were there so we didn't 'explore' too much. Don't expect to be put in the main rooms of the old home, most rooms are in a connected addition - as is the less formal dining area. A must stay if going to the Amsterdam area!

This hotel is off the beaten track and is a must. Fantastic value, close enough to Amsterdam to get there quickly, but far enough away to avoid the madness. This hotel will be my future base when I travel to the Netherlands.

My only complaint is the lack of wireless in the rooms.

Vi såg framemot att få bo i slottskänsla. Hotellet såg verkligen ut som ett slott. Men vårt rum låg två våningar ner i ett tillbyggt annnex. Det var vindlande korridorer så vi gick fel många gånger innan vi hittade. Dåligt skyltat till rummen. Men rummet var fantastiskt med en härlig säng. Frukosten var toppen med det mesta man kan önska sig. Saknade dock riktigt grovt fullkornsbröd.

Fantastisch mooie plek!
De wellness is een heerlijke extra (let op, wel badkleding meenemen!).
Restaurant viel ons erg tegen. Naderhand nog steeds honger en niet echt lekker gegeten.
De suite viel ons lichtelijk tegen. Had er iets meer van verwacht. Maar nog steeds het gebouw, de ambience en het personeel was super!

Mooi karakteristiek gebouw in een prachtige omgeving, waarvan je helaas in de kamers niets meer terugziet. Toch wat standaard allemaal, waarbij de prijs dat absoluut niet is! Kamer lag aan een soort binnenplaats, nogal saai.
Personeel erg vriendelijk. We waren er voor een huwelijk wat handig was, maar anders zou ik er niet snel weer naartoe gaan.

Prachtige omgeving om te wandelen, herten gespot. En personeel zeer vriendelijk, maar niet overdreven. Iets dat ik was vergeten werd gevonden en nagestuurd. Topservice!

Mooi hotel.. prachtige omgeving .. behoorlijke kamer.
Wat jammer is dat de voegen inde douche schimmel vorming heeft en de vorige bewoner iets had achtergelaten op een tafeltje wat niet was gezien door de schoonmaak dienst . gaat het dan net iets naar beneden qua mooi en schoon voor zo een hotel met die allure..

Wochenende in Amsterdam

Beeindruckendes Gebäude, sehr schön für Business- aber auch Privatreisen. Hat ein besonderes Flair. Zimmer im Neubau sind gut und attraktiv ausgestattet aber nicht so besonders, wie das Gebäude. Wellnessbereich schön, aber etwas klein für die Größe des Hotels. Abendessen fantastisch aber auch entsprechend teuer (nicht zu teuer für die Qualität).

Heerlijk verblijf gehad met een top ontbijt. Alles bij het ontbijt was vers, veel keus en heerlijk. Heel vriendelijk personeel, je voelde je heel erg welkom. Treinstation in de buurt (loopafstand) waar je ook gratis je auto kan parkeren. Perfecte verbinding met Haarlem voor een leuk dagje de stad verkennen. Ook het huren van (elektrische)fietsen bij het hotel is ideaal en maakte ons weekend weg helemaal af.

Goed verzorgd, fijn dat je op je kamer een kopje koffie of thee kon zetten.
Vriendelijk personeel.
Ik had een tuin kamer. Door de buiten deur was het gesprek van de buren Goed te horen, spraken luid, tot 0.45

Duin&Kruidberg, een fenomeen. Eigenaarswissel medio 2019. Inmiddels volledig in stijl gerestyled. Ziet er geweldig uit. Verbeterpunt is wat ons betreft de beleving van gastvrijheid door de uitvoerende medewerkers. Weinig geïnteresseerd, bij kleine problemen weten zijn van niets en reageren niet. Lossen ook niet op, totdat er een manager bij komt. Entourage is voortreffelijk, zou mooi zijn als de medewerkers (receptie en restaurant) congruent hieraan zijn. Hoge prijs.

Het gebouw is prachtig en de omgeving net zo. Je zit dichtbij het strand en je kunt fietsen huren om het natuurgebied te verkennen. Ook de dinerzalen zijn prachtig opgemaakt in tegenstelling tot de ontbijtruimte. Op zich prima, maar geen paleis allure.
Wat duidelijk is, is dat de meeste kosten opgaan in het onderhoud van het grote landhuis en dat vind je terug in de prijs.
De standaardkamers waarin wij verbleven (met bad) vielen wat tegen. Je hebt niet het gevoel dat je in een landhuis verblijft.
Bepaalde zaken zijn wat gedateerd zoals de schuifpui, airco en badkamer. Kan wel een update gebruiken naar deze tijd.
Let op dat een kamer met serre uitkomt op een gezamelijke binnenplaats, dus privacy is wat minder.

Goed hotel maar de omschrijving dat Patiokamers een balkon zouden hebben is misleidend; men kan niet buiten zitten omdat het in werkelijkheid Franse balkons zijn.
