This is my second stay here and everything was fine. However housekeeping did not clean our room so we returned to hotel on 2nd night with beds not made, towels not replaced etc.. we told the front desk in morning who said they would look into it but we were now checking out. Apart from themissed housekeeping, everything was fine.

Nice place to stay

Good hotel located about 10 minutes away by car from the centre of Haarlem. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very good air conditioning in the rooms which was a big bonus as I stayed during a very hot weekend. Nice breakfast which you can have on a terrace outside if you like.

Harlem's Finest

This hotel is always clean, rooms are comfortable and there’s enough desk space if your need to work. Staff are all approachable and friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
Whenever I come to Haarlem the Bastion is always my first choice.
Also the Hotel manager has a can do attitude and no problem is to big well done!

Upon requesting additional blankets fo our 82year old mother we were told you dont have extra bankets.

The hotel is no frills. The rooms are perfectly adequate. Very clean. Good Toilet & shower en suite . Comfortable beds. The Air con is a bonus. Proper coffee making facilities.
We ate in the hotel. The menu is small but the food is good and not expensive. Excellent breakfasts.
We use this hotel when going to Zandvoort racing circuit. The car park will accommodate a car an trailer without a problem.

I have no idea why I found it in chapter \"Hotels of Amsterdam\" if this city in half of hour away from the capital. Room were not so good but clean. Bathroom are not comfortable at all. Climate control in rooms automatically decreased temperature to 21 after 30 minutes so it was really cold (weather +8 outside and rain) and I get sick because of it. One more thing : we couldn't lock our door in room and it was possible just with opened window. Staff just says \"we can't do anything with this\". So room on the 1st floor stays with opened window all the time when we were out. I wanted to move from the hotel but it was impossible to get back money from the next day of reservation.

The property was conveniently located, the staff was friendly, and I was given an upgraded room. The bar/restraint area smelled like cigarette smoke and although my room was non smoking other guests were smoking in the hallways and rooms which caused my room to smell like smoke as well.. I would stay here again for sure because of the staff and convenience but would prefer not to have to deal with the smoke issues.

This is a fairly basic hotel. Good shower Comfortable beds. Never did make the air con to work properly. Good secure car parking. Friendly staff.
The rooms were clean but the hallways needed a hoover. It has a lift to all floors. Breakfast good. We used the restaurant once. Quite limited at the weekend but very acceptable. Has a couple of UK channels on the TV. It could do with black out curtains. Very convenient for Zandvoort race circuit. I would use again :)

Silly bathroom

The bathroom was tiny and badly designed. There was a mini sink with a shelf above it. You have to squeeze yourself into an uncomfortable position to brush your teeth or wash your face without hitting your head on the shelf.

Appreciated the large free car park and that fact that you could get breakfast at 6am, vital for our work and very unusual. Restaurant was good and after a long day we were pleased to be able to eat in the hotel. Also provided packed lunches and staff were friendly.

It was really hot at night even late sept and we couldn't crack a window to let fresh air in. The power in the room is only on with the use of your key card so AC was off while you were away and you couldn't charge a battery either. Breakfast was expensive and not anything fancy so we ended up just walking to the McD in the same parking lot. It did the job for a comfy bed and nice shower though.

Upon arrival the room had a heavy smoke smell - staff quickly arranged for a different room - that room was missing two light bulbs. There were smoke butts scattered about the entrance and loud squeaky doors. Staff were very helpful but somehow I expected more for the price - relative isolated location as well...

Location was good as close to the bus stop. Room was ok, toilet was not so good...very small especially the sink was awkward that water would splash everywhere. The staff were not welcoming during the check in. Was not interested in anything except taking our passports to finish the check in process. No \"hellos\" nor \"how are you\" nor \"have a good stay\". Just handed in the room key ant that's it. When my husband called from our room the next morning to ask for toilet roll as there was only about half left in the toilet, he was told to either go down and get it or wait for 9 o'clock am when they come and clean the room. Customer service in this hotel is very poor.

You get what you pay for - good and bad.

The staff were nice, but I gotta rant on the disproportionate cost of the hotel breakfast to the cost. I stay at a lot of hotels and I made the cardinal sin of joining the hotel breakfast without asking how much it cost. With the low quality of the buffet, I just assumed it couldn't cost over 7-8 euros. It was 14 euros each. Ugh. Way overpriced.

The hotel is located above a train station, so all the rooms on that side are noisy and inhabittable. It is a tourist traff - we were asked us to pay for upgrade in order to move to quietter rooms (in spite we pre-paid for our stay). The staff was agressive and the whole affair was very disappointing.

Bastion? should have been called the Bastille

Arrived at the hotel after a long boat trip across from the UK, both very tired.
Checked in to be told not to look at the mess in the corridors as the builders were in, but the room is all finished.
The corridor was a builders site. The room not much better, dirty cups and sinks.
then at 0730 the next morning the builders turned up for work and made a terrible row.
The floor should have been closed off until the building work was complete in my view.
Oh and the rooms where not very spacious either.

Friendly receptionist, but poor room condition

The receptionist was a super friendly and helpful lady, she upgraded us for free to a deluxe room. The room is nice and simple. However, I was much let down by the blocked drain in the bathroom. The same receptionist came to clear the water away, but it happened again on the next day. It was worst on the second day because the whole bathroom literally flooded. No one was able to help beside office hours. So my friend and I have to put up with a flooded bathroom when we go toilet at night.

Ideal base for a short stay

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of days whilst visiting old friends. Was a bit hesitant after reading some reviews, but we were very happy. Staff were very friendly on arrival, spoke very good English, and our room was perfect for our needs. Breakfast was normal continental, but perfectly adequate. Big plus was having free car parking at the hotel. Would happily use this hotel again.

On arrival the receptionist was quite abrupt and even though we paid our food bill the night before they tried charging us an extra two euros on departure for city tax, which we had paid on arrival! The room was very dusty and hadn't been cleaned properly so we had to buy dusters and clean it ourselves. The floor and all surfaces had dust and hair on. I saw the maid in the corridor and showed her two cushions with large stains on there and she brought us two more. I asked for extra coat hangers but she could not find any. The cushions should not have been in the room in that condition. The air conditioning was broken and only gave out hot air but they repaired it. It still was temperamental so we just opened the window which was not ideal on the hottest week of the year. There was an awful smell from the bathroom drains, so we bought air freshener. The maid one morning left our door open because the door wouldn't close properly unless it was pulled from the outside, thankfully nothing was stolen. We then left a note on the door to remind her to pull it closed on leaving. There were too many problems to complain about, we just won't stay here again.

Hotel with smoke issues

The hotel is/was at an central spot were we liked to be. Family was close by to visit. Negative was the smoke smell in the bath room (none smoking room). Previous guests smoked in the bathroom and the smell was not gone. We notified front desk and the next day it was some better, but still not gone (may be because central ventilation system is not really working hard). During one of the nights in the middle of the night, smoke alarm went off. They told us may be people were smoking in a room.
Outside hotel specially during weekend, people left a lot of garbage near front entrance, why can't they put a garbage bin close to entrance??
Next door is a Mc Donalds and the last night (in the middle of the night), a car was parked close to our window and turned on the radio with really loud music ( 2 am and again we woke up). Overall a hotel with some issues, I would stay again but at a different floor, not at the first.

Hotel chain should really consider sending their staff on Customer Relation courses. Hotel was quiet, so why did it take almost 25 mins to let myself and around 10 other guests in when they locked the main door at midnight! Also, too far too long to order drinks at the bar. Consider driving as taxi cab service appalling in the area (25-40 minute wait for cab to turn up) and expensive. Or, like the locals, get a bicycle!

This hotel has helpful staff. It is on a bus route into Haarlem station and hence into Amsterdam. One strange thing the reception area is at the end of the bar and right next to the restaurant. That was no problem. Also the room numbers bear no resemblance to the floor you are on. It is a perfectly good hotel.

Great Price for a nice hotel near Amsterdam

We found this hotel to be very nice and very well priced. My husband and I were in town for 1 evening and planned to do a little sight seeing in Amsterdam and Haarlem the next day. We found this hotel, near Haarlem, and decided to stay there because it was about 1/2 the price of hotels that were actually in Amsterdam. After sight seeing in Haarlem we drove about 15 minutes and were in downtown Amsterdam. I would stay here if I were in the area again because it was a great price and the room was clean and comfortable. The only thing I found strange was that all rooms seemed to have 2 single beds. Double beds did not seem to be an option. Also, the layout of the shower was rather strange. It almost seemed like it would have been a handicap accessible shower, but we were on the 7th floor, so I doubt that was the case though. It was not a problem, just a little strange.

Just for one night

its exactly waht you pay for is what you get..we stayed in Amsterdam and left for Paris and on our return felt to see Haarlem as we were leaving for Budapest the next day.. The closest thing was the McDonalds .. we avoided that and ended up at a Chinese restaurant (Chinees-Kant) as we could not locate any decent restaurants.. the food was excellent as compared with Chinese restaurants in Toronto and the portions were so large that we had to take home half of it ..the internet at the hotel is not so goodd as i could not even use google earth to plan my future activities..other wise ..you get what you pay for..

I loved my time at this hotel and was well looked after by Robyn, Marietta, Tatiana and Terri who wre very friendly staff with genuine smiles, not something you see THAT often in hotels. The food was excellent and the staff were more than helpful. Booked myself in here in error so had a one hours journey both ways for work but the hotel was worth it!!!

We booked this hotel since it had a reasonable price for same day booking compared to anything else in Amsterdam. Room was pretty fine had everything we needed. I gave less points for cleanliness because of the dust which was impregnated in the carpet. The cleaning personnel was doing a good job except vacuum cleaning the rooms. The hotel does not have double bed rooms only with twin beds which can be easiliy moved. Parking was free which was a nice bonus.

Easy to find just off N208, easy to access Schipol without full impact of Amsterdam prices. Staff knows local area well, able to answer questions about Keukenhof (one lives nearby there). Easy trip into Haarlem or other points of interest.

A Good Budget Hotel

This hotel has a smart modern bar/reception area, and a small gym. The staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms are on the small side but the beds are comfortable and the shower powerful. The breakfasts are very good but (if not included in the price) expensive.

The Hotel is quite a long way from the centre of Haarlem, but it has its own car park and busses run there every 10 minutes (2 euros each way).

For the price we found it a good budget hotel.

The only negative points are that its very far from the train station. In my research it seemed to be closer to the train station. The other negative is that the breakfast is very expensive. Since McDonalds is the only restaurant nearby we had to eat breakfast there two times.

Not Bad, but could be improved.

The hotel is claimed to be 3star. But it misses very basic stuff such as napkins, hair drier, iron, etc.
The room doors are like dungeon, very heavy, very tough to open and close. you can hear someone got mad at the door and tries to close it at midnight. The continuous voice of hitting it hard to get closed.
Moreover, you need to wait for minutes at the front desk for some one to show up, and I asked a basic question whether there is a direct train to Amsterdam airport from Haarlem station, and she said yes, which is no.

We paid for the de-luxe bedroom - very pleased with comfort and cleanliness, and free wifi worked very easily in the room. Enjoyed a good, well presented evening meal in the restaurant. Looks like our room had only just been refurbished.
Just one very minor complaint - the 'smoking room' is right near reception and restaurant - if users didn't keep sliding door firmly closed, fumes came into eating area.
We went to see Corrie Ten Boom's house in the centre of Haarlem - a very good guided tour, and a memorable experience - tours last for 1 hour (in English & Dutch on alternate half-hours).

recommended but beware adjacent building site

it is unfortunate that we chose to stay here during the building of their new, rather large, hotel extension. the only problem it caused was that we could not leave the windows open as the building work was immediately outside our room and unfortunately the air conditioning was not working in the room. we were not disturbed by the noise from the site. on the whole the hotel was very good with attentive staff, the breakfast buffet looked good although we decided not to take advantage of that, it was in a good location with easy access by bus into the town centre or the rail sation from which it was only 15 mins to Amsterdam - so no problems taking your car and finding parking. one further small niggle was that the hotel did not have a map to take away, normally provided free, despite a full leaflet display, or even one we could have a look at to get our bearings. Haarlem centre is well worth a visit and there is also a good drive over to Edam and Volendam, which are also well worth a visit, if you have a car with you.

Wir wollten nach Amsterdam und fanden mit diesem Hotel einen super Startpunkt. Parkplätze waren ausreichend vorhanden. Die Bushaltestelle ist 2 Minuten entfernt, somit kamen wir fix zum Bahnhof und mit dem Zug in die Stadt. Unser Zimmer war geräumig und sauber. Das Personal konnte uns bei der Reiseplanung helfen. Frühstück ist leider nur bis 9 Uhr. Wir werden gern wiederkommen.
