This Hotel failed to notify in \"Hotel Details\" on Expedia or emails that it was, at the time of my stay:

ripping up the hallway carpet on all 6 of 6 floors
grinding flooring
glueing on new carpet

Accordingly I was subjected to disrupted old carpet dust, concrete dust and black mould dust. This was from the lift exit all down the hall to my room door. I took photos to prove this. The concrete dust and mould was trampled into my hotel room carpet.

Whilst the hotel staff were lovely and tried to tick all boxes on customer care they could not change the irrefutable fact that the Hotel Owners saw fit to take customer money without informing them of the health risk to customers. This was a breach of Expedia's policies and, certainly in Australia Health & Safety laws to subject any person to this dust and black mould hazard. I have bad asthma and this was an extremely bad environment for me I would never have consented to.
I arrived at about 1030PM on Valentines Day and had no alternative to stay the night as no other hotels were available. On the second night the lovely staff moved me to the only floor (of 6) that had HALF a carpet PARTIALLY laid.
The Hotel Owner's greed was a massive breach of customer trust. Sadly a Manager made a staff member \"sweep\" the black mould and fine dust in a non-ventilated environment. Obvioulsy pointless, worsening the dust and a hazard for the staff member. I showed my Uber Driver the photos and he was so horrified.

The hotel itself was lovely. Restaurant was great. Our server was fantastic. Staff at the front desk were nice as well. My only complaint was after 2 days I asked for maid service for our bathroom and clean towels. When I came back to my room there was a bag of 2 towels and a washcloth hanging on the door knob. Called to complain and the girl from the desk came up and brought us clean cups, tea and coffee and took away or dirty towels. She said there was no one there from housekeeping.So..

4th time staying at Carlton Square, however it was not a good as previously.
Shower was leaking and smellt like a bin. We used towels to mop up the flooding.
Floor lamp broke with No electricity and the coffee machine was also broken.
Reported all of this to Duty manager but they FAILED to get it sorted.
Not acceptable Carlton Square.
Will consider not staying here again.
Poor service this time.

What a fabulous hotel. It was clean and tidy. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room had a small balcony, no room for a chair though. The mini bar was free and topped up every day. Great selection for breakfast. We had dinner there one night, fish and chips which was so tasy.
The bus stop is just round the corner with buses running regularly to Haarlem station, where you can easily get the train into Amsterdam. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would go back again.

This is a fabulous hotel from the friendly welcome at reception to the comfort of the room. Excellent snacks from the bar in the evening. Having a minibar was a bonus and worth the extra for the beautiful crystal glasses provided. Having a car pass for the garage was also a bonus. The beds are really comfortable with high quality bed linen.

The hotel is situated just outside the centre of Haarlem 5 minutes walk from the Frans Haals museum. It is very easy to get to be car and parking is very convenient. All you want to see is walkable. As well as restaurant in hotel there is an excellent bistro and a first class Italian within minutes of the hotel. Staff very friendly and most helpful.

We’ve stayed at The Carleton many times. It is convenient to Schiphol airport by car. Parking is available under ground. The location is ideal for accessing the pedestrian friendly main streets in Haarlem. Breakfast is plentiful, although I miss the raisin buns. However, the carpet needs changing, the rooms need a new coat of paint, lighting in the bedrooms is insufficient especially in the upcoming long winter days. Air conditioning is NON-existent unfortunately, despite advertising that claims it is available. A noisy fan does blow air, but it doesn’t cool the room at all! This is an on-going issue and should be addressed as the days, even in NL become hotter during the summer/late fall days. Opening a window isn’t always an option when it’s hot outside, wet outside and/or noisy outside. Sadly the hotel is looking tired. That said, we will return.

I had an unexpected overnight layover in AMS, and found this hotel online. Easy to get to by bus or by car service from the airport, next to a park in a quiet neighborhood, with a great breakfast. The only drawback is the lack of gym or fitness room, but a walk in the park is quite pleasant. museums and other restaurants nearby too.

Our family of four stayed here for 5 nights and loved it! Very comfortable beds and lots of bathroom counter space. Air conditioner worked very well. Hotel at the edge of the shopping area, so lots of dining options. Train station 25 minute walk, central bus station right around the corner - we took the bus to Amsterdam, then the train back. I stayed here at the end of a long trip, tired and feeling unwell. We had a beautiful room with a park view, an exceedingly comfortable bed, free mini bar and a good restaurant. The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. It was a great place for rest and recovery and Haarlem is a wonderful small city with lots to enjoy. A real haven after some hard travel.

The room was large and clean. The soaking tub was a great luxury. When we complained about the room being cold the staff quickly came up to show us the radiator controls and even brought up a space heater in case we need it. Needless to say we found the staff to be very attentive and gracious. The restaurant was informal but served excellent food that was well presented and prepared. The breakfast buffet is excellent. We will stay there again when we visit Haarlem.

The Carlton is in a delightful location close to a shopping area and walking distance to any attraction in Harlem. The staff is professional and the standards are high. Friendly and helpful staff. Quiet surroundings. Their restaurant Zocher offers beer that is custom-brewed for them and it's good. Both the IPA and the blonde. You can walk (or bike) safely to all of the main attractions in Haarlem.

Outside Amsterdam/easy access everywhere

Lovely hotel out of the noise and bustle of Amsterdam; easy access from this hotel to downtown Amsterdam. Location is central in Haarlem and transportation to/from the airport is easy.

Great stay in holland

Great location, just outside of centrum. Perfect for a car trip and schiphol..take the bus to the train. Restaurant has a great breakfast buffet, get the barista to make an americano..she is fantastic and so helpful! and restaurant is very good! Fish and chips were better than in london...

Truly enjoyed our stay. Comfortable, clean rooms. Staff very friendly and helpful. Close to main attractions and lots of dining options in the area. Had an incident at the hotel that was dealt with swiftly and professionally. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Misleading information

The hotel is very nice and in a good location. They charged me more than I had been quoted from your site because of currency exchange rates. They also did not give me the room that i booked. Noking beds.

3 night stay in Haarlem

Lovely helpful staff. Room was clean and quiet. Breakfast was good. 15 minute walk to the very pretty market square. 25 minutes walk to the station (frequent trains to Amsterdam less than 20 minutes by train). All in all a very enjoyable stay and we would stay in Haarlem over staying in Amsterdam as it is a more laid back place with good restaurants
