Fantastic Stay with Easy Access – Minor Bedding Is

This is a fantastic hotel overall.

The location is excellent for travelers: a convenient bus route connects directly to the airport and the Haarlem train station, which offers effortless, tap-and-go public transport access to Amsterdam Central. No tickets needed, it couldn't be easier!

The hotel itself is modern, immaculately clean, and highly presentable.

My only slight disappointment, and the reason for the four-star rating instead of five, was the room setup. We booked a double, but received a twin with the beds just pushed together. The resulting gap made it feel like a twin room anyway, which defeated the purpose.

Despite the bed issue, the stay was great. The restaurant food and drinks were excellent, and the facilities were superb. I especially appreciated the business area, which was stocked with on-tap hot and cold drinks, fruit, and snacks. The Wi-Fi was fast and very easy to connect to.

I would happily stay here again.

We were very pleased with our stay at the Van de Valk hotel. Well situated just out side of the centre. Lots of easy parking. Rooms were on the big side giving you lots of room.Tea and coffee facilities were separate on level 3 in a beautiful lounge and always available 247!! The breakfasts were amazing… quality/ choice and extremely good value for money. Rating at the time was 8.9 on hotels but should be… in my opinion at least 9.6!! Highly recommended 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Love love love it.

Fabulous room for our family in a fabulous property. The property was very recently renovated and was on par with very high end Marriott and Hilton resorts. We loved being in Haarlem. The gym and spa were excellent. We stayed in a two bedroom with our kids in bunk beds in the attached room. It was so clean and so safe. Bathroom and shower were huge. Great jumping off point for all of the Netherlands. Staff was exceptional.

We stayed at Van der Valk Hotel for our vacation in The Netherland.
The hotel is a kind of luxury and business hotel.
Check in was smooth and all employee and staff are helpful and polite.
The restaurant is also amazing for both breakfast and dinner. Their croissant is the best I have ever had :)
Our room is so spacious with nice bathtub :)
Parking is ample.
Very strategic location as well.

Weekend in Haarlem

The hotel is about a 15 minute walk to the shops which mainly open late mornings on Sunday and Mondays. The room and bed were very comfortable with a contemporary
feel and a mini fridge which was empty so we stocked with our own drinks. The room was quiet and the corridors softly lit with a relaxed atmosphere and we enjoyed a meal in the restaurant on the first night.
Overall we had a very pleasant stay in the hotel and the staff we very helpful.

Superb reception staff, but breakfast staff were a bit aloof and grumpy. Room service staff did not carry out two requests correctly.
Beds were poorly made up. No female sanitary bags were provided.
Breakfasts were well laid out and gave a lot of choice, but cooked items were not hot, and the plates were cold.
The hotel itself was a very pleasant place to stay.

We picked this hotel mainly because of its facilities and the convenient parking, it was everything that we had hoped for. The room was good the reception was excellent and the bar and restaurant had good staff. Overall the staff were young but very efficient.

Accommodating in trying circumstances

We did an emergency dash to see an elderly relative leaving on Christmas Day evening & driving through the night, to see them on Boxing Day morning, so we were very glad we were allowed to check in a little early after our visit, so we could get some sleep. We were also pleased that the chef prepared us a meal for dinner that we had in the bar, when the hotel was holding a Festive Buffet & a 5 course dinner for 100's of people due to it being Christmas.

Not all vdValks are the same & not what they were

We stay here a lot as we have elderly family in NL nearby, on our visit this time we thought we'd stop at the van der Valk we had our wedding night in 29yrs ago.

So in comparison: the rooms were similar, the other vdV hotel had a better & nicer looking selection of toiletries (now wishing I'd taken more photos) they had an information book on the desk about the hotel in both Dutch & English, & a note pad & pen, Haarlem has neither. I didn't pick up the free magazine at the other hotel as I thought I'd pick it up in Haarlem, except they have completely different magazines.

Now as we've stayed at this hotel many times over the last 5yrs, we've noticed many cut backs - you used to have a minibar fridge in the room that you could put food in that we may have bought, to keep it fresh but they have been turned off due to power costs.

You used to be able to to watch UK & USA tv channels, not any more, they have cut paying for those. Last year they told us the antenna was being fixed, obviously still waiting.

Now to breakfast, this is where Haarlem on balance just won out, they have a greater selection on offer, although I would note that it has gone down over the last few years, you used to Krenten bollen (fruit buns) not now, the jam was in jars, now its now pump action into small dish, there is no cream cheese to go with smoked salmon, juices have also suffered the squeeze of 'cost of living crisis' but still love that I can have a glass of prosecco at breakfast.

The Van der Valk hotel was a great hotel for our family of 5. We stayed in the family suite with 2 bunk beds and 1 King. Very large and very nice. The toilet was separate from the shower / tub abs sinks which was nice and the beds and pillows were very confortable. Probably the nicest beds and pillows we’ve had our entire Europe trip of 5 countries. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is great, but is outside of downtown Haarlem, which is the quaint and lovely part of town. Uber cost me around €10 per trip to get to there (or the main station).
It’s a great hotel, but if you’re in Haarlem on tourism, planning on traveling to Amsterdam on a daily basis, it’s not a good option.

The hotel was rated 4 star but it’s not to the quality of four stars hotels. I arrived in the evening at 9pm where they don’t have staff to help with my bags, no housekeeping available I need to go downstairs to pick up any amenities I need. The room was too hot the air condition is damaged. Next day they told me it’s under repair and unfortunately they did not fix it I had to spend my two nights with less sleep upon check out they said the AC system needed lots of work to be done. This was called miss management as it’s summer they should have had better maintenance and they should have inform their guests prior to arrival’s.

Comfortable hotel but pricy during tulip season

Apart from the price sticker shock - yes, it was a busy time dure to tulip season - the hotel is clean and comfortable. However, the more expensive the hotel, the more expensive it becomes... a 13 euro charge for delivering room service, for example (though the food was excellent). It's a 30 minute stroll from the beautiful center of Haarlem with all its history and lively street cafes - about a five-minute Uber trip - and buses are just around the corner (tap in and off with any debit card). Haarlem is a beautiful town!!!
Watch out for the low ridge of tiles at the door to the bathroom and loo (ouch, stubbed toe). There is no light switch for the loo - it's operated when you open the door (took me ages to figure it out searching for the switch) - which can be a bit blinding in the night if you are sensitive to light.

Check-in was fine, although I don't recall picking ground floor rooms, when I booked. In our room the desk lamp was loose & in our children's room the detail mirror was leaning against the main mirror & when our daughter touched it, it fell apart. I found the pillows too high & was advised they have no other options.

Was shocked when we arrived, as this was one of the cheaper hotels available in Haarlem. It was stunning, everything looked brand new and the rooms were very nice. The bar service wasn't brilliant - I think the person was new so we ended up double paying for drinks and getting mostly head in the beer. Otherwise a great stay!

The hotel it’s self is awesome. The front desk staff are extremely attentive and friendly. The restaurant is your only option without travelling some distance by taxi or public transportation to other restaurants. Be prepared to be treated as “take it or leave it”. The food was good HOWEVER the staff in the restaurant can be rude and very inattentive. One night the waiter took our orders, delivered our appetizers and disappeared for literally an hour. He went on break without serving the main course. No compensation was offered when we complained. Another night we waited at the entrance for the host to seat us at the sparsely occupied restaurant and were asked if we had reservations. We said no and the host went to the people behind us instead asking if they had reservations, which they did. He asked us to move to let them by and sat them in the nearly empty restaurant before returning to seat us. The orders were also inconsistent. There are few restaurant options in the area so you will most likely be forced to eat at the hotel more than once. The same orders on different nights are completely different. Sometimes with fries. Sometimes without. Sometimes with salad. Sometimes without. The breakfast buffet is excellent. You should include that in your reservation. Luckily, no service is required for that.
The bar is run in the same manner. Be prepared for long waits and inexperienced staff who seemingly could care less if customers are sitting at tables with no service.

We have stayed here before and the quality of the hotel and the staff is second to none.
This time it was as good, if not better and we will be staying here again on our next visit to Haarlem.
The rooms are very clean, well decorated and just a nice place to be, and the staff are extremely pleasant and helpful.
There is also a large carpark which is free as an added bonus for us.

I enjoy the room with a balcony. Only problem I really had was my room card did not work. I went to the front desk and 5 times. They try to change the battery on the door but I still had a problem getting into the room. It was annoying to go downstairs 5 times and change the room card then to come back and still couldn’t open the door.

Hotel is nice but customer service was lacking

The hotel has a nice interior. The rooms are generally comfortable however the customer service is lacking.

I arrived late as my flight was delayed, so this ended up being after midnight. On arrival I was told by the front desk that he was going on holiday so didn't care when I returned to tell him my room wasn't right. I had booked a twin room with what I thought (based on the pictures and advertising) was 2 double beds but there was only 1 double bed. This turned out to be 2 singles put together, but the server at the front refused to help get the room sorted or explain this was the standard room (falsely advertised imo).

When leaving my friend and I went to get water from the restaurant. Despite having paid 200euros+ by this stage in the room + breakfasts, we were told that \"breakfast had ended\" and we were told to get out as lunch was now starting. We just wanted water.

The hotel itself is nice but customer service could definitely be better.

Very disappointing during renovation

The good news is that the hotel is being renovated (July 2019). The very bad news is that they stuck us in the old section they were working on. We were very disappointed as they are literally tearing it apart. There was a large pile of debris outside our room on the roof area which we also couldn't access since our door (& emergency exit) was stuck shut. We did see a few guests in the new section which looked great so I don't understand the decision to continue to stick guests into the old, loud, run-down area. We weren't the only ones as we heard many slamming doors, since the closers don't work properly anymore. The showers also range from very hot to very cold. Van der Valks are usually very nice places but this one was a definite miss. The only saving grace is that it's near Haarlem. This was the only bad hotel in our 10 day trip.

Hotel is in the middle of building works to upgrade.

Stayed in the new part and the room was fine good bathroom, balcony and decent a/c..

Restaurant was a shambles. After 1.5 hours at dinner I had been served a beer and a bowl of soup. When I finally collared someone about the main course I was just brought the bill.

Apparently no one had managed to order the main course and no one would ever have told me. Somewhat unimpressed by the level of service.

Would stay there again as the rooms are fine but would go somewhere else to eat.

Van der Valk Hotels are generally good but this week I have had 2 annoying experiences in their hotels.
