We enjoyed our stay and could have stayed longer. This bed and breakfast is just what you need. Clean, comfortable and great service. This is our first time staying in Haarlem and will come back again!! Henk and Annmarie are great hosts and very helpful. Henk made many recommendations and both were so knowledgeable about the area and could answer any questions.

We had the best time! Jenn and Annmarie are so friendly and welcoming. They made us feel at home and gave us wonderful ideas to really explore Haarlem. The BnB is in the middle of town and easy to get to shops but somehow it’s still so quiet and cozy!

Great stay in Haarlem

We enjoyed our 2 nights at Hotel Malts! We were greeted at the door by Henke who helped with baggage and offered coffee and orientation for the city. Ann-Marie arranged for a taxi to the airport and served a tasty cappuccino in the AM. We were given a packed breakfast for our last morning since we departed before breakfast. We loved our patio which we enjoyed both days. Would stay here again!

Hotel Maltz is a lovely B&B hotel operated by Henk and Anna Marie. Their attention to guests is wonderful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The location is in the heart of Haarlem with easy walking to local food and shops. It is a smaller town with many extras.

Hotel Malts was an exceptional stay. Professionally run with sweet touches that made us feel welcome from the first moment. Answered all of our questions kindly and gave helpful information, gave us tea, coffee, fresh oj and pastries galore. The rooms are outstanding! Floor to ceiling windows, well appointed WC’s. Step out the door and you are basically on the main square. Because of this hotel, Haarlem was the favorite stop of our 3 week trip in Europe.

Hotel Malts and the proprietors are absolutely charming. I came to the area for work and found it easy to manage, beautiful and clean. We were able to walk easily for great food, shopping and sights. The rooms were clean, comfortable and modern. I would stay here again without hesitation and recommend to travelers of all types. Henk & Annemarie were the most amazing hosts to their quaint and cozy B&B.

I researched many different places to stay initially decided on a large hotel and was lucky enough to find this amazing place.

We rented the room with the large terrace which I highly recommend. It is room number three. Every day they had a homemade breakfast with fresh squeezed juice as well as other amenities.

We will definitely come back here as well as recommend it to our friends and family. You cannot go wrong with this place.

Great B&B, feels like home, in the center of town

I loved this B&B. I was greeted and given a very nice coffee and a comprehensive map of the town. The highlights of the map were reviewed in detail. I was unable to attain a reservation for dinner so Henk and Annemarie also helped me secure a reservation. Breakfast was divine. There was an honor bar. My room was very comfortable. There really is no place else to stay in Haarlem

I cannot say enough good things about the personal attention and friendliness of Henk and Annemarie (owners). Every morning we were met with warm smiles and immediate response to our slightest request. The facilities are immaculate and while spartan, more than adequate. The morning breakfast was excellent with lots of variety, always fresh, and well presented. They helped with luggage, travel arrangements, and info about the best sites to visit in Haarlem. This really is an amazing small hotel in the centre of Haarlem which is close to Amsterdam. The owners (and operators) of the hotel are very friendly and helpful. They seem to speak several languages quite fluently and serve breakfast every morning.
It is a perfect location to enjoy a typical Dutch town centre with museums and many restaurants close by.

Hosts Henk and Annemarie are wonderful, extremely helpful and take the time to make local sight and restaurant recommendations to enhance your stay. Some things never change - thankfully!

It is exactly 2 years since I last had the opportunity to stay at Malts and, thankfully, nothing has changed. Comfort, cleanliness, WiFi perfect. Breakfast thoughtfully presented. Far enough away from the Grote Markt for the racket of the church bells to not be a nuisance.The big difference between Malts & other locations is the welcome. On arrival, you are greeted by one of the owners or a staff member, given a coffee & chatted to about Haarlem & given advice on what is available during your stay. Wonderful place.
One thing has changed, the lovely Kate informed the beds had all been replaced this year - I would not have known, the old ones were comfortable & so are the new ones. Thoroughly recommended.

The owners, Hank and Annemarie, are great hosts. Always helpful and fun to be around. Room 8 was modern, comfortable, and clean. The daily breakfast was very nice and healthy. The hotel is close to the airport bus, the train station, good food, museums, the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park, and Amsterdam. The city of Haarlem is a very special place. Incredibly beautiful. You won't regret staying at the B&B Hotel Malts.

Very pleasant 2 day stay with excellent hosts.

We were able to check in a little bit early and were given a comprehensive summary of the local sights, restaurants, and activities in Haarlem. We received very useful maps and information and recommendations. The room was quite large by European standards with a 14 foot ceilings, but was modernized to keep out street noise (mostly successful) and nice upgrades to the bathroom.

Cosy B&B with a Heart

The stay at Hotel Malts was amazing. We were greeted by the owners and given a very personal introduction into Haarlem: what to see and do, where to eat and how to take advantage of the complementary coffee/tea in the breakfast area, as well as the honesty bar. The room was good sized, very clean and accompanied by a large, clean and functional bathroom. The next morning, we enjoyed the awesome breakfast at Malts: freshly made coffee on a espresso machine, freshly squeezed orange juice, yoghurt, bread/rolls, cheese, meat, jam, eggs, cereals... you name it -- they were offering it. We really enjoyed it. One could really feel that the owners were putting their soul into running this place.

Charming B+B in Haarlem

Loved Hotel Malts and especially the setting in Haarlem . No reason to go to Amsterdam Haarlem has it all, and Hotel Malts is the place to stay. Wonderful hosts at Hotel Malts

Haarlem was great.

Catalina and Henk are very friendly hosts. Lots to eat at breakfast. 5 min walk from Verwulft stop of Bus 300 from the airport (30 min ride). In a wonderful pedestrian zone in Haarlem. Lots of shopping, sights, and food. Try the Thrill Grill for a great hamburger. Leonidas chocolates shop only 2 blocks from hotel.

Lovely little hotel with a personal touch

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of October. The hotel is well located, in the center of a very walkable town, just a few minutes walk from the bus stop from Schiphol, and also a few minutes from the train station, with very frequent trains to Amsterdam Centraal. Our room was bright and of a good size, with good wifi, a very comfy bed, and a good shower. The breakfast served each morning is excellent, with very good coffee, freshly squeezed OJ, tasty yogurt with seasonal fruit, good breads and a number of choices. The best thing about the hotel, though, are the owners, Henk and Annemarie. They have obviously put much thought and effort into making their hotel a lovely and welcoming place, and their care shows. I hope to be able to stay with them again in the future.

Best Hotel

We just returned from a 2 week vacation in Europe and the Malts was the best hotel we stayed in on our trip. The room was beautiful and clean with amazingly comfortable beds. Henk and Annemarie, the owners, were fantastic, friendly and warm, along with their assistant Katalina. The included breakfast was delicious and abundant. We will definitely return to the Malts!!! And the city of Haarlem was convenient for Amsterdam as well as being beautiful on its own.

It was perfect in every way! Well, except we didn't stay long enough. So clean, airy, friendly and easy. Anne Marie & Henk are so helpful from the moment you step inside. Haarlem is beautiful & clean & safe.

We rented the hotel bikes and rode to the sea- through the natural Forrest. We saw wild horses, cattle, sheep, birds... And the sea was lovely! Highly recommend seeing the area on their bikes!

We look forward to returning!

Clean, quiet, convienient location

We arrived after check-in hours and found the self check-in to be very easy.
Breakfast buffet may look small but was excellent with a few kinds of bread, cheeses, ham, boiled eggs, yoghurt and some sweet spreads as well as freshly squeezed orange juice, hot drink choices like epresso, cappuccino and a good amount of teas.
This hotel is very clean and surprisingly quiet being so close to Grote Markt.

The city center has very few roads with car traffic ... Be aware of the bicyclists!
Beautiful city with charming narrow cobblestone streets and a city center surrounded by canals with interesting bridges. Some locals call Haarlem \"Little Amsterdam\". Here you can find great shopping and tons of restaurants.

Perfect small hotel in a charming town

The hotel owner/manager welcomed me warmly, offered coffee or tea, and provided a map and lots of information about what to do and see. She carried my suitcase up a long flight of stairs and arranged for a staff member to take it back down the evening before my early departure. Because I am vegan, she made a special effort to be sure I had food for breakfast and left a breakfast for me to take when I departed. The hotel itself exceeded my expectations in all ways! The town is charming--a smaller and quieter version of Amsterdam. The hotel is located right in the center, but very quiet, due to the addition of special windows. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

This hotel is a great introduction to Holland.

Very convenient to transportation and local sites.
Great breakfast and helpful staff
Very clean with recently renovated rooms. Keep in mind this is a historic building and does not have a lift; be prepared to climb steep stairs.
We would enjoy staying here again if we return to Haarlem in the future.

Definitely worth a try!

We enjoyed a great welcome from the two owners. They gave us a complimentary coffee while explaining a little about the hotel and their home town. Some super tips about where to go and what to see. The room was nice and the shower was good, with decent water pressure. Breakfast was nice and unhurried. All in all a fantastic stay.

Friendly comfortable hotel in great location

Such a warm welcome! This is a friendly, homely hotel where I felt very comfortable as a solo traveller. The owners could not have been more pleasant or helpful -- I will definitely stay here the next time I visit the Netherlands. The location is great too, close to the central marketplace, a short walk from the station, and on direct bus route (300) from Schipol airport. It is very reasonably priced and breakfast was very good, with freshly squeezed orange juice and good coffee.

Excellent hotel, excellent location

We stayed at the B&B Hotel Maltz for two nights at the beginning of October. It was a very pleasant stay. Upon our arrival, Henk greeted us outside and gave us a map to the parking garage. He then made us coffee while he reviewed a map of Haarlem and gave us recommendations. This personal touch was very much appreciated. Annemarie prepared the breakfast in the morning. Breakfast consisted of a hearty buffet and freshly squeezed orange juice. The owners recently renovated the property two years ago.

The room was clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. They have decorated it nicely and everything looks new. There are a lot of stairs, but the owners are happy to help with luggage. They also stored our luggage on our last day so we could sightsee. It is in a great location, just steps away from the historic main plaza. The owners are personable and accommodating. I would highly recommend this hotel.

make this your first choice !!!

Malts is a wonderful hotel. Perfect location near attractions and transportation (bus to and from the airport take the #300 bus @ 5euro and train station to Amsterdam and the sea). very nice continental breakfast with extras, the host and hostess and staff were all friendly, informative, helpful, and just charming, lovely people. The room and neighbourhood was very quiet and safe. The bed was super comfortable. The wi-fi was far superior to any other (including higher priced) hotels fast and stable. I was in the patio room which is well worth the added cost. The heater was fast and efficient. The stairs (no lift) were a bit daunting (typical to Dutch older buildings) to an older man but had rails on both sides making it safe and doable. The bathroom was modern with a great walk-in shower. If I have to come up with any down side it was the number of English speaking TV networks (but who goes on holiday to watch TV?). All in all it was an excellent place to stay and will certainly be my first choice when I next return to Haarlem. Highly recommended!!!

Hotel close to the main square

The rooms are very small. No elevator so had to go up steep narrow stairs. The girls packed our bags up the stairs. Nice breakfast. The girls were very helpful!

Great stay in Haarlem

Fabulous stay from the moment we arrived ( to a welcome cup of coffee and introduction to Haarlem by the owner) to check out after a delicious breakfast ( don't miss the yoghurt!). The Malts is ideally centrally located. We had a large double room which was extremely spacious and comfortable. Clearly freshly refurbished and with a large en suite. Highly recommended.

Before our river cruise we stayed in Haarlem at the B&B Malts. We choice of it was a great one. It was in a great location to explore the city for 2 days. The city was a quaint old city and much quieter than Amsterdam. The owners were very friendly and helpful in every way. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of local fare to enjoy. The room was exceptionally nice, especially the bathroom and shower. Bed was very comfortable. Room was not very big with the king sized bed but a good tradeoff for us! In all we were quite pleased with our visit to the area and staying there was a huge reason why. The only word of caution is there are some steps to use every time. They are narrower as it is an older building. The owner though is more than willing to carry your bags up and down. That is the only negative but not a problem for us. The rest is all good!!

Henk and Annemarie are fantastic hosts! They shared information about what to see and where to eat in Haarlem. They were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing, especially the yogurt parfaits. The stairs might be tricky for those with limited mobility. I would highly recommend this hotel b and b in Haarlem.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in.

Malts B&B was refurbished about 2 years ago. It looks like it was done yesterday. The facilities are immaculate and very up to date. The room could not have been cleaner.
The owners, Henk (Hank) and AnneMarie met us at the door. Henk sat down with us and explained the town of Harlaam. Where to go, where to eat and what to do. He spoke fluent english and was able to answer every question we had.
Breakfast consisted of homemade yogurt bowls and fruit. Wonderful coffee, tea and fresh squeezed orange juice. Great croissants, rolls, bread, fruit and cold cuts with cheese.
The breakfast room overlooks the street and is open all day.
The hotel is accessed from Schiphol Airport by one bus, no transfers. The bus stops at the airport and the stop for the Malts B&B is two blocks from the hotel.
I canceled another hotel reservation so that we could return to the Malts for our last night in Holland.
I would recommend this B&B and the town of Harlaam to anyone considering going to the Netherlands. It is a very short bus ride to Amsterdam and all other surrounding sights.

Great experience

We really enjoyed our stay here. It has a B&B feel, but you have as much privacy, as you want. If you want to sit in the kitchen and visit with other guests, you can do that too. We were traveling with our grown children, so the sitting area was great for us to hang out in after dinner. We appreciated the honor bar and the helpful and friendly owners. The rooms are perfectly clean, but not luxurious.

Great Haarlem Base

Really great choice. The Malts provides a stylish, comfortable, clean and well located base for exploring Haarlem. The bed was the best we had on our trip. We loved the heated bathroom floor, and the town view. The breakfast is not as varied as at bigger hotels, but they provide quality here. The fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee to order, and continental fare were perfect for us. The only caveat is that the rooms could be better sound proofed. We would happily come back here again.

Wonderful place to stay!

Hotel Malts is a very clean, quiet and comfortable place to stay -- it is modern, yet still has old village charm! Everything about this place is perfect and the owners are genuinely nice people who truly care about your well being. I have read previous posts about the stairs, but do not worry -- they will help you carry luggage and the reward of a GREAT room is worth the little effort it takes to there.

Loved this hotel

Was alarmed at first upon encountering long flight of stairs...but staff came down and carried our luggage up and down for us. Upstairs completely redone, nice quaint dining area, and very delightful people, Anne Marie and Hank, I believe....think they are the owners. Wonderful breakfast. We loved this hotel and the village of Haarlem.

Great hosts, great stay. Wish we'd use Malts as a base for 10 days in Amsterdam - as it was, we stayed there 2 nights and enjoyed it. The breakfasts were excellent, coffee light snacks available thru the day. We arrived an hour or so before official check-in and were allowed into the room, no problem leaving the bags for some more local sightseeing after check-out.

The Hotel that likes to say \"No\"

This hotel, admits it's not 3 star, It closes at 5 pm , there is no access to park to unload baggage, this has to be carried from the end of the road, where the car is left in a \"no waiting area\" there is then a l km. walk to the public car park. access to the rooms is via 2 flights of very steep stairs, with no handicapped access. If an emergency were to arise during the night no one to advise. The breakfast was \"poor\" , and don't accept Visa,only cash or Maestro In my opinion the worst Hotel in Europe
