Staff was aware we have a luggage and we were assigned a room on the 2nd floor. Walkway going up to the room is so narrow that you can barely pass through with luggage in tow. Never knew that there is such thing as shared bathroom so it was a shock when we got there. Building is so outdated.

Although outside of control of hotel road outside very noisy the two nights we stayed so would find it difficult to recommend to friends.

It was close to freezing and the window was open with the radiator turned off. This made the room very cold. The radiator itself was situated by the head of the bed (probably why the previous resident had turned off the radiator and opened the window).

I'll also mention that this hotel room didn't have an en suite bathroom. Not what I was looking for, frankly. I want to be clear I'm not down rating them for this: that's on me being in a hurry and missing this detail. But if anyone else reads this I'd want them to know in case they missed it.

My husband and I checked into this hotel for 2 nights. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by staff and assisted with anything we needed, they even offered adapters! The room was tiny and cozy, and they offer a 24 hour tea room with hot coffee as well. The hotel is located within walking distance of various public transportation options. We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely come back!

We enjoyed our stay. The property was easy walking distance to King’s Cross and other tube stations. It was also 25-30 minutes (including walk to station) to sites in any direction. Be aware that rooms are smaller and they offer shared bathrooms, but it was a safe, clean place for us to rest our wary bodies at the end of a full day of activities.

The hotel is old and it wasn’t what we expected. The rooms are small, the mattress on the bed is about 4 inches high, we were afraid to sit in the chair as it looked like it would fall apart, parts of the carpet was unraveled, the bathroom was not cleaned very well. There was mold around the soap dish, drain and sides of sink. The toilet is inside the shower, there is a step up of 6-8 inches to get into bathroom. They didn’t seem to like that we wanted clean towels each day and you can only have two (I like an extra for my hair) but when you take a shower you need to use your towel to wipe up the water so you can use the toilet, unless you like wet feet. You get a room key but have to ring a buzzer to be let into the hotel. They also don’t want you to take drinks in your room. You don’t have any way of controlling the temperature in your room, we requested and was able to get a fan. We chose this hotel as it had gotten good reviews and is close to the tube and Eurostar station. If I had it to do over I wouldn’t have chosen this hotel. It definitely is very dated and needs newer and better furniture and a deep clean in rooms and bathrooms.

Whenever I went to the washroom, it was clean and organized. The staff was nice. You can get there from the Heathrow Airport by only the Piccadilly Line. The hotel must have been full, but I heard nothing from other rooms as if there was by myself in the hotel. It was really quiet. They don't have AC, but the temperature was comfortable while my visit in the middle of October.

The location on Tavistock Place in Bloomsbury is convenient to the British Museum, Tottenham Court Road, Kings Cross Station, and the rest of the West End. There is no shortage of hotels in the area, at nearly any price imaginable. The ground floor room would not have been my choice, but for two nights in central London I can't complain too much, and the room was small but suitable. The tiny TV perched up in a corner, however, seemed more like a curious afterthought than an amenity.

Small hotel in funky neighborhood. Close to train. No front door key (buzz staff to be let in. Surly bloke in office seemed to resent having to answer and fling open the door with attitude - simple solution: give guests a key). Small basic room at top of steep narrow staircase, no lift. Older furniture, no A/C, fridge, luggage racks, milk, or water. Shower area and water stream barley large enough to be usable. Water temp idiosyncratic. Would I stay here again? No.

They try to keep the hotel clean but understand that it's a very old building. Very minimalistic plan for everything. Jail cells may have more space than these hotel rooms. There is not enough space for your luggages. Two person can not move inside the room at the same time in a 3 persons room. Probably alright if you just want a bed to sleep for a high price.

Hotel was in a good location and was clean but very dated.
2 nights stay as we were going to concert at Wembley.
The bed was like a rock. It was located next to the front door which was constantly banging. When people walked down the corridor to the front door, the bed creaked as the floorboards moved.
The curtains were falling off at one side.
As the room we had was right at the front on road level, you heard everyone walking by. There were roadworks outside that were very noisy (but obviously that’s not the hotels fault).
There was no tea & coffee making facilities, you had to go out and walk a few doors down to go back into main hotel to get a tea or coffee.
We did ask to be moved, but the hotel was full. We were given 2 duvets to put underneath the bottom sheet. These were thin summer duvets. One of them had 2 stains on!.
It made it slightly better for the second night, but would never stay there again.

The area was shockingly noisy. Not only were there people about at all hours, there was also construction on the road outside at 6 am and jack hammering that started at 8:45 PM. The stairs were very steep and narrow and there was no elevator; however staff couldn't really help much with luggage as they could not leave the front desk. It felt very dangerous to be taking suitcases up and down the stairs. Further, the shower took almost 10 min of running water to warm up. This wasted an extreme amount of water, much to my dismay. The beds were quite squeaky, the windows were single pane, and with no ability to control room temperature, we slept in our sweaters on top of our pj's.

One problem I have with this property is that it was not accessible. My daughter have to walk with a walk-in stick, and it was inconvenient for her. Also, the fact that we have no washroom in our room it was not very accessible for her and for me, but overall experience was good, the property is located in a excellent location.

Stayed here for a visit to theatre on strand and good walking distance to this and many other central locations including british museum and Euston station. Great place to eat about 100 yards down the street with amazing value and quality. Staff within hotel were helpful with filling water, advising where to go, assistance with check in, and we awere able to leave luggage before check in tome and afterncheck out to avoid taking around with us. Although some decor is a little dated as they make clear, room was spacious enough, warm and clean with fan provided in very hot period. Separate bathroom down stairs with no lift but if this isnt a problem then it is a decent size with generous shower, tea and coffee downstairs is good and on a quiet street

Best Option

We chose the hotel last minute, due to a bad experience with the previous one. But the reality is that it was the best choice, the place has a great location, the room is comfortable and quiet, the staff is 24 hours and very friendly. The lounge always has tea or coffee and is spacious. The only thing to consider is maybe a little that there is no elevator, but we had no problem with our small suitcases. The hotel provides recommendations which we used for breakfast and it was a good choice as well, it is close to bus stops, subway and main train station. It made our stay in London very enjoyable, we will definitely come back.

It’s an old building with no air conditioning. If I was staying here with just by myself or with my husband it’s fine. The room was very tiny with a double bed and a twin bunk bed. With 4 people in there (2 adults, 2 teens) it was so very hot. Can’t open a window more than 2”. Fan going but with one outlet near the door it never cooled the room down. Also a tiny tv up in the corner that my husband got working.
We booked thru Expedia and added on a night after with the hotel. The difference of that was £70. I asked for the Expedia rate that I got and was told the rates depend on the night. I paid so we could get into our room. I have asked for a refund of that as it’s ridiculous to pay that. Oh and our shower never drained so that was less pleasant as well. So with not one night good sleep and charged that extra amount was not great. The bedding and room was clean. Also being a family with luggage and no lift was tricky carrying suitcases up a flight of stairs. So we were thankful we were up only one floor. The only thing nice was the location is walkable to where you want to be in London. And we felt safe in the neighbourhood.

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience with St. Athans Hotel because our stay was truly disappointing.

The room was musty, uncomfortably hot, and had no air conditioning. We had to leave the window open, but there were no screens, which led to us getting bitten by gnats at night. They provided us with a fan, but it was broken. When I asked for a replacement, the front desk staff told me they didn’t have any more and that I’d have to wait until another guest checked out.

The sink in the room was tiny and clogged—after about three seconds of use, it would start to overflow. After five nights, I asked for fresh towels and toilet paper. The front desk attendant told me I’d have to wait until the towels were washed to get any clean ones. He said he’d bring up toilet paper, but never did, so I ended up buying some myself. The next morning, I asked another staff member for towels and was only given two, even though there were three of us in the room.

The only positive I can mention is the location—it’s convenient. Beyond that, the hotel is poorly managed and uncomfortable. I strongly advise against booking here. And if you do, avoid Room #14—it appeared to be a converted storage room with beds thrown in.

This is an old building, with excellent location close to British Museum, the Piccadilly line underground, and other attractions, reasonable price in relation to the city and season (July). I had a room with private bathroom, the bathroom very small and uncomfortable (it is a better option the shared bathroom, if you do not mind to share). They did not clean the room everyday, and some times bad odors came from toilette. I appreciate that there is always somebody at the reception.

Exceptional Budget Hotel for Travelers

Wonderful stay at this boutique budget hotel for backpackers and travelers of all sorts. We came to London to go to the Opera and the Hiroshige expo at the British Museum and both were in walking distance of the hotel. Euston Station is .5 miles away and the entire area has many shops, restaurants and green spaces to lie on the grass. The hotel has toilets and showers just off the staircase and this is nice so that you don't have to listen to your partner on the toilet in a small room. The toilets were always clean and showers had powerful, hot water. The windows opened so we had fresh air. The staff was friendly and has been run by the same family since 1964. If you're looking for a budget hotel in Bloomsbury, near the British Museum, the Royal Opera House, Soho and Euston, Saint Pancras and King's Cross stations, look no further. This is the place. I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Highly recommended.

This was exactly what we needed as a family of three. It was located within walking distance of Euston station, had many reasonably priced restaurants nearby, and a Tesco. The beds and washroom facilities were clean and comfortable. We felt safe with someone manning the door 24 hours. The only small downside was the outside noise (the room was on street level and we had to leave the window open for ventilation). The hotel itself was very quiet.

Property is in a very good location, very close to the tube and city center. However, that was the only nice thing about it. It was very hot and no A/C. Very difficult to get to the 4th floor with the suitcases and no elevator available. We had to share the bathroom with other rooms. We asked for a second fan because the room was extremely hot, but the staff said they didnt have a second fan. Then we asked again the next day and the staff found one and provided. Overall, our experience was not good and we would not recommend this hotel. Pay a little more and be comfortable in a nicer hotel. We made the mistake of trying to save money but it was not worth it.
