Room freezing cold even after getting an electric radiator it didn’t warm up much, bathroom cold with damaged electrical surface box which is a bathroom not ideal?
Cob webs in the walls, ceiling Holoway, very run down in the room and damp bedding.
We even didn’t use the swimming pool as it was so cold in the whole building including the bar area , we had to have our coats on!
Parking is available at the extra cost of £15 end not guaranteed if you go out even if you’ve paid for it!
Everything was very inconvenient for us.

The hotel unfortunately feels more like a 3 star than a 4 star. The breakfast is quite limited and the rooms weren’t as clean as we would expect. The staff were helpful and kind. The pool is quite small it’s a good size if you manage to get it to yourself but as soon as it gets busy it’s no good. The sauna takes a while to heat up and the steam room was out of order.

The room was unbearably cold. The pool experience was a disaster. The changing rooms were incredibly cramped, and the pool itself was small with debris floating in the water. Most frustratingly, the showers only had lukewarm water. Shivering in a cold locker room, we desperately needed a warm shower, but it was impossible.The shower in our room was completely blocked.The Wi-Fi signal was so weak and unstable that it was practically useless.

The main reason for filling in the survey was the food. The first night it took 50 minutes for the starter to arrive which was only pate. The second night the starter and main course arrived together. The actual food was quite nice

Overall, we were satisfied with the hotel. The English breakfast was very tasty — especially considering that I am a chef working in a five-star hotel in London. The sausages and bacon were exceptionally good.
I was slightly disappointed that still water was not available and only sparkling water was offered.
Overall, the hotel offers good value for money and we enjoyed our stay.

Very busy time of year Christmas party’s the hotel was a dated but comfortable we had our dog with us so choose this hotel as it was near beach .The lady on reception was very nice and booked us in promptly.The breakfast staff was a little unsure where to put us with a dog we eventually got sorted.Our room was nice had everything we needed

Poor basic room. Couldn’t use the bar because there were parties going on until 1 am. They warned you about the late Christmas parties, but only after you’ve paid, so there is nothing you can do about it. Used to go there in the old days not the same place, wouldn’t bother again.

The room was very clean, which is the most important thing. Bring some water with you: there is no bottled water left in the room and the tap water is undrinkable.

For the price of the room I can't complain, and was very close to the venue and the staff were all pleasant and friendly. However, the hotel is quite run down, the TV had no signal, the cup in the room was dirty, the key card didn't work all that well. Breakfast buffet was ok but not worth £11.

Great hotel, only 6 mints walk to the seafront. Rooms were a nice size. The building itself is a little tired and the spa facilities weren't great but the pool was nice. Staff were really friendly and made for a lovely stay.

It's a rare joy to find a hotel with in room controlled aircon. I'd rebook just for that! The hotel is a grand old place and parking is a nightmare. But it's well situated with a sea walk just yards from your door and a surprisingly quiet location close to town.

Booked this for my wife to stay for a couple of nights to investigate the area and meet up with family nearby.

The first night, single room was very small (like a cupboard) outdated and dirty. Also lots of noise from other rooms and corridors.

A free upgrade the next day to a double room was given after complaining but that room was not much bigger and also very dirty and dilapidated.

This is an old, tired and uncared for building and should probably be knocked down. Staff aren't enthusiastic and appear unhappy.

There are many more, much better hotels to be discovered nearby.

This may well be a four star hotel but reviews are definitely more reliable when choosing your hotel!

We would stay again, But our first visit on Monday 22nd 2025, there were a few things I could notice, carpet,stair carpet very fraid needs looking into, language issues at reception. Room 222 bathroom needs an update, bath needs looking at, sealant around bath and tiles definitely needs doing. 2nd visit Room 307 much better, again bathroom needs looking at sealant again. Slanting Roof above bed could lead to head injury issues maybe a warning sign saying mind your head may help. Man on reception 2nd visit was outstanding, couldn't do enough for us.Like All hotel rooms Never enough tea, coffee milk on offer in Room's

A very good stay.

The Durley Dean had a great location, just a few minutes walk from the promenade and beach. Check-in was easy and the staff were always friendly and helpful. My son and I loved the swimming pool which was a good temperature and a clean and safe environment. Our family room was quite spacious and had everything we could reasonably expect for the price we paid (thank you Tesco Clubcard!). A nice touch that they seemed to keep all the family rooms in the same zone. We all had a peaceful night's sleep. Breakfast was fulsome and delicious: all options available. Great that checkout wasn't till 11 , meaning that we could use the pool again that morning. We paid £15 for 24 hours in the hotel's car park which seemed good value as well as convenient and allowed us to go for a walk on the seafront before departing from Bournemouth, which was looking as beautiful as ever. Would recommend and return.

I am absolutely shocked and disgusted by our stay at the Durley Dean.
After a long day of traveling with our 8-month-old baby, we arrived exhausted but hopeful for a smooth check-in. Instead, we were met by the most unfriendly receptionist I have ever encountered. Lea, at the front desk, did not manage a single smile or welcoming word. She could not explain why I had to make three separate payments (for the room, for my dog, and for the car), and she even confirmed the wrong number of nights. Not once did she say anything along the lines of “enjoy your stay.” I honestly felt a robot could have done a better job.
Unfortunately, this was only the beginning. When we got to our room and moved the nightstand slightly (to secure the baby bed barrier we brought ourselves), we were horrified to find what looked like half a plate of leftover chips from a previous guest. On top of that, under and around the bed we discovered a rubber band and a large dog treat — both of which could have been a serious choking hazard for our crawling baby. I was shaken just thinking about what could have happened if my child had found them first.
When I called reception to report this, the same unfriendly Lea answered. She didn’t apologize, didn’t express any concern, and simply said “it’s okay.” Her complete lack of care made me furious. I asked for a manager, and thankfully Chelsea came to our room. She apologized, acknowledged the issue, and offered either housekeeping or a room move.

The ad promised luxury but it didn't deliver

Room: We stayed for two nights and had trouble with our room key all the time - so had to keep going up and down 2 floors to reception to get help with this - very time consuming and tiring. There were lots of other guests experiencing the same problem. Bed was way past its best and the furniture mismatched - which in a very small room made it feel cramped and cluttered. I really like the air con that was available and the TV was big, easily seen from the bed and worked well. The ensuite was very tired and mouldy, and the towel rail fell down when we tried to use it. The hotel was Victorian and I would've liked some info in the room about its history and heritage, and maybe some information about Bournemouth and what was happening in the area and things to do etc.
Food: We had a meal in the hotel on night two and it was delicious. I didn't like the UHT milk cartons we had in our room as part of our drinks/kettle area. Our towels were tiny, I was expecting bath sheets.
Spa Facilities: The keycard to the spa didn't work but another patron let us in. We tried to use the spa pool but it was busy and much smaller than the photos showed. The sauna was working but the steam room was out of order.
Parking: it was useful to have a carpark available.

The hotel was great very big and spacious, wonderful staff including the cleaning crew who did our room. Breakfast was buffet full english with cereals pastries and fruit options.

The only down side for our stay was the pool is smaller than the photos lead you to believe and the lift is always busy (but this isnt anything the gotel can do anything about) theres 4 floors and alot of guests.
Neither of this things stopped us enjoying our nreak away ..we were on the top floor in a family room and thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Theres a lovely walk to the beach and we could even see the sea from our window

The hotel staff were very friendly and nice. However the hotel could do with more updating especially in the bathrooms. The bedding eg pillows and duvets and mattresses are heavily stained under the sheets and should be replaced more often. There was no hot water on the last day and no offer of explanation or apology for the situation for guests. The spa facilities are much smaller than they appear in the photos and the pool water was filthy. Breakfast was very nice as a positive.

Quite a mixed clientele at the hotel. Our room was large and comfortable with sir conditioning. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Only downsides were parking at £15 per bay but if you moved your car after paying there was a strong possibility you didn’t have a space on return. Our room was quite noisy for a Tuesday night with what seemed to be a disco quite near( don’t think it was in the hotel).

I have stayed at this hotel previously and returned as we had such a wonderful experience before. However, this hotel has gone downhill in my opinion.

The building is very old and I feel that it could do with some renovations.

Our room was dirty, had stained carpets, a broken ironing board. I have a child who often would put his hands in places that people usually wouldnt, and his hands would be full of hair and dust.

My child has additional needs so requires a pushchair, in order to get to our family room we needed to go up and down several steps which i would not have been able to do if I was alone.

They allow too many people in the leisure facilities at a time. Which meant that we could not enjoy this fully.

I believe for the price it was not justifiable. I dont believe that it should be a 4* hotel.

The one good thing about this hotel is the location.

Hotel is in a great location and you can easily walk to the beach or a selection of restaurants. Room size etc was ok. Air con could have been better. The whole property was tired and looked like it was struggling to survive financially. Pool was good even if small. although changing facilities were not so great and showers were not always hot. Not sure about the reception staff’s blue ties and scarfs looked like that came from a joke shop. Parking system never showed enough info like when did I next need to pay etc.

Firstly, when we checked in with the night staff and paid for the stay. The next day we were out. I got a call from the hotel that I had an outstanding room charge. I said I already paid which they checked and said it was a mistake on their end. Well, they did not hesitate to cancel my room card before confirming with the guest!

- The room was way too small, as well as the bathrooms. Even though they offer different room types. We have a normal double room and the size of the room and bathroom is not acceptable.

- The room quality is not great; walls need fresh paint, the carpet is so outdated and old, the doors are dirty and cheap and to get in the room they card system is very outdated and it makes it hard to get in the room when swiping the card.

- The bathroom fan was not working and it was extremely small. It felt very suffocating.

- Their indoor pool did not look clean. Also, it looks good on the pictures on the website. But it is very misleading. The indoor pool is so small! There was barely any ventilation and the lighting was not great.

This made it difficult for guests to relax in the pool because it was full of children playing and shouting. While I don’t mind children in the pool playing. The indoor pool was just not big enough for both parties to enjoy the pool and there is not pool specifically for children as guests had to specifically sign a document to make sure they are being supervised.

There is much to improve in this hotel which is the bare minimum.

Beds were very comfortable, pillows were ok and the duvet was light, although the duvet cover was too big.
Room was spacious with a sofa. Good air con in the room.
The hotel was only 5 minutes walk to the beach.

The down side was the car park as charges are too high at £15 per night, with no guarantee that if you leave your space there will be one available when you return. This let the hotel down as others in the area were only charging £8.

I didn’t expect luxury for the price I paid, my priorities were a clean room, comfy bed and quiet.
My room was clean, there were hangers in the wardrobe and fresh towels. The furniture had seen better days. There was no hairdryer in the room and my kettle didn’t work but these were replaced by staff. The air conditioner/heater was easy to operate.
The bathroom was adequate and there was plenty of hot water, however, the bath was quite small and wouldn’t suit a larger person.
The lift is very slow and hadn’t been adequately cleaned. The corners hadn’t seen a hoover for years.

I would say there should be some upgrades made to the tv to be bigger, a more comfortable mattress, and if there was a way to make the floors less squeaky that’d be great.

But overall it was a great stay.

We stayed only one night. As hotel very old it self. We were very surprised how nice room was. It was refurbished and so comfy. I think it's very important room condition. Lovely swimming pool area. Small but nice. English breakfast fully loaded that was nice. I stayed with kids and they were surprised - no pancakes. So even I payed for breakfast they had nothing to eat only toast and honey. No pastry like a croissants or similar. Location actually is absolutely perfect. Close to the beach, close to the pier. Hard to get parking and quiet expensive just on the street.

Third floor room was very quiet and in a very good condition, albeit no view. A bit smallish for 2 people because of the eaves, reducing space. Air conditioning came handy in hot weather. Very friendly receptionist at check-in. Five minutes descend to the beach. Breakfast average, but watermelon and pineapple added value.

They have parking but it’s not guaranteed once you go out so unfortunately for us we did pay for the parking but unfortunately did not get to park there but there is free on street parking 2 minutes walk away. The room we stayed in was clean and bed comfort was okay, but the room has everything u need. The room was In need of redecorating. Breakfast was good.

We stopped from 7th July to 11th July this year 2025. We had a lovely break in the Durley Dean, its clean and tidy and the staff are first class, very friendly. Ok its dated but its Victorian. The bus stops are 200 yards away from the hotel entrance in the direction of Bournemouth and the buses are frequent to lots of local towns and resorts. We were out every day going to somewhere. Swanage, Poole, Westbourne and Christchurch. We would go again. Thank you Durley Dean

Great location, close to beach

The location is excellent, 5 minutes from the beach and close to the town centre. The hotel was comfortable and clean, the room was spacious and had air conditioning and the hotel had friendly staff who helped us get a taxi back to the train station after our trip.
Although on this trip we did not use many of the hotels amenities, we will be back to stay again.

Enjoyed my stay

The room I had was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Staff ver froendly and happy to help with any query. Breakfast was buffet style full English on offer, cereals, fruit, toast. Dinks tea coffee, and 4 fresh fruit juices.
