Absolutely loved my room, it was spacious and had a huge tub (my main reason for choosing it) and balcony! I also loved the eclectic interior design scheme. The staff were really lovely and welcoming. Furthermore, I loved how convenient the transport links were, especially as you can get a tram directly to the airport! It only gets 4 stars as the WiFi was only working for 1 out of the 3 days I stayed there and I couldn’t use my Roku, but the winter Olympics were on and I enjoyed watching that. I would stay here again and I would recommend!

Fantastic stay! Very close to the train station (8 min walk) but not so close it's noisy. Walking distance to capucin market (5 min walk) and city center (10-15 min walk). The room was already ready when I arrived early so they let me do an early check-in, which was great to freshen up before enjoying the city. The room was spacious, clean, well-decorated, and had all the needed amenities. Hotel staff was super friendly. I will definitely come back.

The rooms in the zoologie wing were massive as they were in the old historical building. It had bare brick walls, tall ceilings and large windows. The toilet had a quirky cistern and even though the shower room was a huge glass cubicle it didn't take up any unnecessary space. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful. The bar area was large due to being in the same wing as our bedroom. Lots of light flooded the room. It had comfy colourful furniture which we used whilst waiting for our room to be ready. The location was close to the train station but not too far to the sightseeing areas of Bordeaux.

Lovely hotel and staff but a little disappointed

Lovely hotel but wasn’t a fan of the location as didn’t feel particularly safe at night. One of the hotel restaurants wasn’t open so we had to eat at the expensive one instead! Breakfast was nice but again expensive for what is provided and surprised this wasn’t included in the price anyway. Generally a lovely hotel and staff were so friendly but not sure we’d stay again.

Fascinating and a little quirky, but in a good way. A former Natural History University building, remodelled with many references to its history. Well placed for the station and city transport and close to the Capucine Market - a must-see on your tour.

This is such a beautiful and unique property only a short tram ride from the centre of Bordeaux, but close to the train station and local shops (Spar and Boulangeries, etc).
The staff member on during the day at the front desk was amazing! Helpful, so welcoming, and made our stay.
The staff overall was so kind and we enjoyed our time in Bordeaux so much as a result.

This hotel offers a truly unique and memorable experience, housed within a beautifully renovated ancient Faculty of Science building. Its heritage is seamlessly reflected in the contemporary decor and even the hotel's name. Our room was a comfortable size – neither overly large nor small – featuring a clever and unique transparent bathroom wall in the shower area. My personal favorite was the giant tub, easily accommodating two people for a truly relaxing bath. We particularly appreciated that all toiletries were from L'Occitane, as their delightful scents enhanced our stay, and we welcomed the perfumed Epsom salts provided for our bath soak. The complimentary spa access (available mornings and evenings without reservation) is a standout feature. The staff is exceptionally friendly and provides invaluable, personalized tips about the city, covering everything from top sightseeing spots to dining recommendations and even great \"caves à vin\" for tasting experiences. Beyond the rooms, the terrace, bar, and restaurant areas are beautiful and pleasant. The reception's unique hanging lights create a magical ambiance that will delight Harry Potter fans, reminding them of the Great Hall's floating candles. The only minor drawback is the location. The only minor drawback is the location. While it's a convenient 7-minute walk from the train station, the immediate area isn't the most charming and it's a bit further from the city center.

The rooms and the property are all very new. Everything is furbished using the \"zoology\" motif. This makes the property and the rooms very nice. The quality of the decorations and aesthetics is very high. Our room has high ceilings, great beds, really big windows and the A/C was very responsive. Everything is very very modern.

Generally hotel rooms in France feel small, our room felt wonderfully spacious.

The breakfast buffet (paid extra) is very nice and the staff are very attentive and serve your well.

It is a 10-15 minutes Uber ride to the center of town or 30 minutes walking. Distance from Bordeaux St Jean station is 10 minutes walking.

I highly recommend this hotel travelers who value the above features.

If you feel that you need to be chock in the middle of the town then this is not a good option for you.

This property was misrepresented in the Expedia description. It was a 35 to 40 minute walk to get anywhere. We like to walk but the street we walked on left a little to be desired. Also with weather being what it was we wanted to take a cab to dinner but were quoted 50 euros just to get there. The restaurant is nice but the menu is very limited and there are not many places that I would recommend near there. Rooms were laid out funny with a bathtub and the shower, sink, etc, right in the middle of the room. Way too expensive for the quality of the hotel and particularly the location.

Such a unique hotel in the old Faculty of Sciences building for Zoology and Geology. We had a comfort room which had a gorgeous free-standing bath in the room itself and a powerful shower and separate basin area (this is glass screened and so you should be comfortable with your room buddy!) There's lovely little nods to its history with animals on the curtains and different flora / fauna on the tiling. Separate bathroom. The spa on the basement level has a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna which you can make use of between 8am and 11am and 8pm and 10pm without booking. Comfy robes and slippers were provided in the room. WiFI is good and work space in the room was handy for our day working. It's well-situated a short walk from the St Jean station and ~10 mins the other direction into the main town (really enjoyed nearby Marche des Capuchins for breakfast/lunch options). We didn't have the breakfast in the hotel itself as preferred to explore. Really friendly staff and we paid €40 for a 4pm check-out on our last day.

Cool, quirky hotel. The building and decor was great. Comfortable, good sized room. Breakfast was good. Didn’t eat there. We wanted to eat at the smaller bar/restaurant but it was closed. It is slightly out if the centre, about a 20 minute walk. Good team and bus connections and close to the station.

We had issues with the WiFi which really negatively impacted our stay, as I was working and had to go to a cooking space nearby to have reliable internet.

The hotel is overall nice - nice building and service. However, it is not disclosed during the booking that they charge extra €25 for using their SPA and you’ll have to book in advance. Also the showeroom in the room is transparent so if you’re travelling with you friend, it’s a bit embarrassing

Really stylish hotel, with a beautiful terrace restaurant, friendly staff, close to lots of good restaurants and an easy walk to the centre of Bordeaux. I think they may have taken the minimalist theme a bit far but this was fine for us for the few days we were there (nowhere to put toiletries in the bathroom, no door to the shower which made it quite cold, and the floors were very slippery)

Only problem is the shower area which has transparent glass around it, and so you can easily be seen by people looking into the room from outside.
Also not great when you have your daughter and son staying together in one room as we had.
A bit of a design flaw.

For a 4 star accommodation I expected so much more , help with the luggage upon entrance would be helpful and a thorough introduction of the services and amenities by the FO staff , I went in the room and didnt know how to find the room numbers til i looked down and saw on the floor , they didnt tell how to contact the FO for any questions, let alone a briefing on how to turn on the lights. Tired from a trip , i would have expected a 4 star to be easy to settle in . Location is also a bit unsafe for its price , staff at the restaurant was good and the food as well.

We were travelling by train hotel really close to station, About 30 minute walk to city centre, although not an issue for us as we like to walk and see the city and there is plenty to see whilst walking, if you don’t want to walk excellent tram service 2 streets over. We had a lovely stay here. The décor is brilliant being converted from a former university zoology building. Breakfast is buffet style with a great selection. We had one meal in the restaurant also which was extremely good. Our room did not have a balcony but there was a shared terrace just outside our door which we sat and ate breakfast on a couple of mornings. The staff speak good English and were happy to help with any questions we had. There is a fixed rate taxi service to the airport if booked through reception which was handy with a 7am flight back!

I loved my stay at the hotel. Super friendly staff, I felt really well taken care of and the property itself is unique. This might be one of the best places I have stayed. Some of the fasciitis’s were a new experience to me and it’s definitely worth trying it out.
Unfortunately I didn’t have the time to try out the spa but the ambiance of the hotel is so serene it almost feels like a spa :)

We absolutely loved the whole vibe of this hotel. The check in staff were so lovely and kind! Unfortunately, we had a little mouse visitor on our balcony when we first arrived and when we were moved to another room, that one was not clean (dirty boot prints in the shower, the robes and towels were in disarray, and a smell like someone recently used the toilet). The third room was perfect until we found that the robes and slippers we’d been told to use for the spa had large dark brown rust marks on them. Aside from the lengthy and difficult check in, the hotel was great! Not a terribly far walk from anything and again the ladies at the front desk in the day were excellent.

We only spent one night here (wish it could've been longer). We opted for a deluxe room and really enjoyed it. Lovely balcony, bath in the room, beautiful decor... what more could a person want? The service was excellent and the breakfast was delicious. If ever we return to Bordeaux, this will be the place we stay.

I required an urgent doctors appointment which was easily arranged. Lovely comfortable rooms!! Breakfast delicious, bar staff had such a brilliant knowledge of the beautiful local wines. This is a boutique hotel set up for people who like visiting the spa and tranquil music playing throughout the hotel. It is situated near a park and a local Bordeaux neighborhood. The food offered is French, being one is in France one should accommodate the custom not themselves. The food is lunch with vegetarian options from 12-2:30 and then dinner and you can get small plates in the bar. The bar is open and serves food and light snacks all day. Those on this review thread who said they could not get their “sandwiches” are better off staying at the Marriott. The music in the bar goes perfectly well with the high end boutique culture the hotel is opting for.

Hotel looks great and the rooms are comfortable as well as spacious. Sadly the aircon broke in the middle of the night sending the temperature up beyond tolerable so we had to change rooms at 2am. There was no one on reception when we complained for 20 minutes so the stay was very much marred by this. Otherwise the hotel would have been great.

Initial great impression. Friendly welcome and drink at bar while we waited for the room. Room impressive with quirky decor and decent shower. Had a hanging rail for shirts but nothing for dresses but I managed to improvise using a coat stand. Nice big comfortable bed. Room overlooked the garden area and it was quite noisy at times (music playing in the morning/afternoon) so we had to keep the window shut. We planned to sit in the garden but it seems this is the restaurant. Lunch was from a limited menu. We wanted something light like a baguette but this was not available and the options were expensive. Location is on the edge of the main town with longish walks to get anywhere. We thought staff were a bit mercurial. One night there clear tension with glasses being slammed around & felt a bit uncomfortable.

Overall conclusion, nice property, comfortable stay. We didn’t use the spa so may have missed out on the wow factor.

Enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Zoologie as the design, furnishings and garden spaces are excellent. The hotel is very well located close to the station, the surrounding area is vibrant but not within the main tourist area and some caution is advisable. Check in was excellent and room presented well. The negatives are there is no fridge in the room and during our stay water was not provided. The quality of the bar drinks are excellent but service can be slow and the price expensive for a 4 star offer. The spa is not free access and the information on this confusing. Overall though very good hotel and experience which with minor improvements to service standard could be easily improved.

I'm a frequent traveler and I have to say this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in around the world. The experience is carefully curated from the moment you arrive at the front desk. All of the staff is superb and highlight several points of service. The property is beautiful and well suited for a getaway. You'll actually find it difficult to leave because it is do comfortable and the food is excellent. I cannot wait to return in the future.

Arrived at reception but had to wait a while to check in because the receptionist was busy with his paperwork (not other customers). The air conditioning is controlled remotely by reception but failed multiple times and we had to call reception to reset it on numerous occasions. The safe was not secured to the wall, so when you pulled the door open to add valuables the whole safe fell on the floor just missing my foot. Had to wait a while because there was no one at reception to check out. Otherwise all staff were welcoming, cheerful and happy to help.

There were a few points which led us to rate the hotel lower. Some within management’s control and some not, but important for potential guests regardless.

1. Parking: the description says onsite parking available on request. In reality, that’s not the case. There is a car park across the street which cost around €90 for 5 days
2. Spa: the description notes a steam room and sauna. Actually these are only accessible if you pay the daily charge of €25. Think that should be clarified.
3. Location: the area is not good. Although relatively convenient, we walked out to multiple fights in the park across from the street. If walking to the historic district, you also had to walk through some pretty bad neighborhoods. Not suitable for families.
4. The room: the thermostats were unreliable in both of our rooms and would reset in the middle of the night

Lovely hotel, great location, helpful friendly staff. Bar area and outdoor seating area are very pleasant. There is a coffee machine but no cups to use with - when we did get them they were taken away by housekeeping so we had to contact reception again to get new ones. Tip - you can get the no. 1 bus from the airport to right outside the front door. Takes about 50 minutes but costs 1.70 euros!

We found the location very convenient to the train station and center of Bordeaux and the waterfront area all were within easy walking distance.
