The Hotel May is in a great location: less than a block from the subway, close to MANY restaurants, convenience stores, etc.
It’s stylish and comfortable. Includes a decent breakfast and the price is right! It is located on an alley and there’s no good views and little light but that’s not so bad considering all the positives.

The included breakfast was very simple and boring, served in the basement with no windows. The room was big with a big bathroom and shower. Water bottles and towels are available all day long at the front desk. Staff is very helpful and friendly. House keeping needs to clean more, especially the floors.

They know what questions will be asked and are equipped with explanatory documents with clear directions to get to the airport bus etc. it’s a great location for food, shopping, and glimpses into daily Seoul life. Very close to subway station. Breakfast is simple but all you need. Espresso machine at breakfast was a huge bonus.

The breakfast needs serious work. Boiled egg, cut up oranges and tomato with toast, cereal and mushroom soup with mini sausages. The place was clean, but needs some cut up potatos cooked and seasoned with scrambled eggs added to it. Have some butter, jelly and cream cheese out for the toast!

The room was perfect for a solo single traveler. I loved the location, in very close proximity to the train and bus routes. The room was modern and clean. Love the bathtub, fridge, and free bottled water! The front desk staff wasn’t very friendly but also were not mean- it might be a language barrier but a smile or two wouldn’t have hurt. It was very direct and transactional. All in all- good property and will stay again.

Overall a decent stay! The staff were really friendly and helpful throughout, and the location couldn’t be better — super convenient and close to everything. The room was clean and they were happy to tidy it up whenever requested, which was great.

There was a bit of street noise that carried in from the main road, but only noticeable if the window was open. One small downside was the plumbing situation — like many places in Seoul, you can’t flush toilet paper, though there is a bidet which helps.

The only slightly odd thing was the frosted glass bathroom doors… not exactly offering much privacy 😅. Otherwise, a comfortable and pleasant enough stay for the price.

The overall condition of the room was good. The breakfast was decent. Very lively location. But my main issue is with the room service. You're supposed to tell the front desk if you want your room to be clean or they won't do it. We asked them right after breakfast, 9 am, to clean our room we got back around 9 pm and the room was not clean. I understand some hotels do eco stay and won't clean the room everyday but they do leave some towels and such in the room. I have never stayed in a hotel that you have to asked for your room to be cleaned, especially a hotel that is not that large so it won't be that much of a hassle for them to clean every room every day. Overall it was a good stay.

We had a comfortable stay in The May Hotel.

Pros:

-enough space for us to open 2 of our carry on luggages.
-separate shower and toilet (very important for us when looking for hotel to book)
-relatively quiet.
-mattress, pillows, comforter are all super comfortable!! Even more comfortable than our home fr. The mattress was heaven for us (we like firm and my hubby doesn’t sink in it unlike our bed at home lol😂)
-so many local eateries nearby which we really
-quick bus ride to Myeong-dong, though you can walk it if you wanted to. We chose to take bus as we’re pacing ourselves with so much walking over the course of 2.5wks lol

This hotel is tucked away so it might be easily overlooked but I’m glad I gave it a try. The May is best for solo or independent travelers. I’ve found once you check in you are basically encouraged to explore the small but satisfying premises on your own. I requested a room on the higher floors because you will literally be facing a wall since the alleyway is packed with other boutique hotels. Don’t let that discourage you. The rooms are a great size, the bathtub is a nice addition and the included breakfast was satisfying. The area is very lively. Cool for a weekend getaway!

I enjoyed my stay as as solo traveler. The staff were polite and able to communicate with me in English. I enjoyed the mattress and had excellent sleep. The water was hot and the pressure in the shower was excellent . My only critique was the lack of counter space . The bathroom is very spacious but not much counter space which I thought was unique. Nevertheless for the price point I believe this is great value for money .

It’s a convenient place. I loved the location and the walkability to the many bars, restaurants, and shops. My room was surprisingly beautiful but I did have the best suite. I don’t know how the lesser rooms look like. But my room had a kitchen and massive bathroom with a tub and an isolated shower… However, it’s not for everyone. The location might bother some guests because it’s hidden in a dark corner street and the lobby looks like a front desk at an auto garage shop. Breakfast is included but it’s simple with sausage and eggs as an option. … But I personally loved it.

I really liked the area around the hotel. It is very vibrant but not too loud. You’re in the middle of the city and walking distance from a lot. Location is the best part. The room itself was also pretty nice. I would say the most awkward thing about it was the bathroom is in kind of the same open format as a walkin shower so you can hear everything. So maybe not the best for privacy but for the price and location I think it was pretty good.

The room was lovely. The bed comfortable and the room smart. The bathroom offered little privacy which might not be ideal for some people. The breakfast was free and in a basement. However we saw the guy serving go to the toilet (to which the door was open to the dining room) with his gloves on and not change his gloves after. Gloves are very unhygienic when combined with such behaviour. This was quite off putting! The room was noisy at times due to people shouting late at night and building work in a nearby building in early morning. But it wasn’t too bad. None of the tours would pick up from this hotel we had to travel to Myengdong

Great Location but Disappointing

Great location in central Seoul. So many sites within walking distance. A lot of cafés, restaurants, coffee houses in the area. Room was nice sized but needed a deep cleaning. Furnishings needed a good dusting. Very little wardrobe space with just 2 hangers, no drawers, no luggage rack. Breakfast was simple but ok. Front desk staff was most kind, helpful.

Sure close to places to eat and drink but this is inan area where people drink and go for night out in Seoul so I would not recommend for families or ladies travelling by themselves at night. I had a pleasant 12 days stay at the May Hotel. At first i was confused because it says “Hotel The May” on the Naver App and the entrance of the hotel. We were quite happy with the stay, the area has a lot of food options, and its near ikseong-dong hanok village. We were there for Christmas and the vibes were great. One thing was that the front desk told us there is a aircon option in the room but we called them because it was not working. They said that it was not working and asked us to open the window instead, i dont know how true it was but we were lucky it was winter so we could allow some cold air in. Other things that could be improved was that the housekeeper doesn’t replenish the body soap, i guess its because we brought our own shampoo but we used their body soap. They do provide laundry service for 10000won, im not sure if its the language barrier but we heard “maximum 5kg”, we weighed our laundry and it was only 4kg, but they said it was too much and charged us 30000won instead. There were no other laundry mats nearby too, so we just paid the price. Lastly, there were only 2 hangers available, definitely not sufficient.

Everything was great truly, only complaint I have would be cleaning service. I asked if they can change the bedding for clean fresh sheets and they did not do.. :/ also kept forgetting to restock body towels, had to go to the desk every time to ask for them, plenty of hand towels though. They might’ve just mistaken the towels because how they were rolled up and couldn’t tell but still.

Also Quite difficult to find so have a NAVER map link as google maps does not work.
Hotel staff are ok not helpful.
Go to closest 711 near station entrance it has a lotte atm so easy to get cash for international cards.
Also it is smack bang in a very busy eating area especially at night & on weekends it all goes off & is noisy. But it’s super Easy to walk around & subway. Also 5mins to insadong & all the cafes.
Perfect place to stay once I got my bearings & didn’t expect much of hotel staff.

What an amazing hotel. As I read the reviews I was nervous about the room size but I can say I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. I had room 802. My sister and I both Americans were very happy with our stay. The room was plenty big and we had 8 suitcases as we had went shopping on our 1 month trip. Air conditioner worked without issue. Nice bedding, nice bathroom, room had refrigerator. So many options for meals. The subway was maybe a 3 minute walk away, the front desk was very helpful with recommendations, taxis and even helped order a pizza for us. I can’t say one negative thing. I highly recommend.

My first time staying in South Korea and this is the hotel I came across! Didn’t know what to expect but our stay had just what we needed. Air conditioning worked great, water ran well in the bathrooms, hotel was clean, bottled water was refilled when we requested room service and room was cleaned nicely. We ubered everywhere and it was easily accessible for them to drop us off near the hotel. It’s a short walk to a lot of wonderful places as well! We enjoyed our stay! Very convenient area with lots of restaurants and convenience store, including an Olive Young, around the hotel. Less than 5 mins walk to Train and Bus stations. 1 bus ride away from Incheon Airport. Close to Tapgol Park and Jewelry shops around Jung-no area. Few blocks away from Myeongdong. Hotel room is well kept with free simple breakfast, daily water bottle refill. Just bring your own toothbrush. I’d definitely book this hotel again.

The hotel itself is rather shabby and dark. Our room had almost no natural light. The reception area is cramped and littered with boxes and storage. The rooms are very small and we were stepping over our luggage most of the time. The hotel is always humid for some reason. The staff were old men who were friendly but somewhat intimidating. The location is killer though. You could throw a rock and hit Jongno 3 station. Ikseongdong and Insadong are like 1 minute walk away. You cant beat the location.

My stay at the May Hotel was a good experience. Airport shuttle from Narita (6002) was both convenient and close to Hotel, a 5 minute walk. Close to transportation (buses and subway) but still away from street noise. There are many food choices especially at night. The only negative was the Hotel laundry service....terrible....clothes came back stained, unfolded and all white clothing was gray.

Pretty good overall, especially for the price! Looks a lot fancier in the pictures than it really is seeing it in person I think, but that's not to say it isn't nice or that here's anything wrong with it per se, just a bit tired in places. Fine for a reasonably nice room to sleep in for a few nights without being too expensive. Comfortable and nicely decorated. A/C was very good, strong and powerful, with full control over an individual unit unlike the placebo wall panels you some times get in larger/fancier hotels. Breakfast was very basic, very limited choice in some little basement room, but it was free so meh. Better than nothing and again value for money to be included for the price so can't complain too much

I chose the \"please empty bins and replace bottled water etc every day\" option on check in, rather than unnecessary changing sheets & towels every day for my 3 night stay and wasting energy/water, a nice eco idea. However, one day they didn't do this at all, so I had no fresh bottled water for the next day of sightseeing. No biggie (I'm ok with the tap water) but might bother some if you were relying on it. Again I'm kinda complaining about a free perk so perhaps a bit picky of me but it's a review after all!

To finish on a positive, the location of this hotel is absolutely fantastic. Smack bang in the middle of a busy eating/drinking area with lots of pub/bars, restaurants and street vendors. But tucked away in a side street so I never though it was noisy. Ace!

The hotel is tucked in a side lane and off a very busy street. This location is walkable distance from palaces. You walk through the art street which is quite cool. I would stay there again.

I stayed there for two nights. The area is conveniently located to various sightseeing areas. This hotel seems to be surrounded by socalled love hotel and may be one of them , too. The hotel is well updated. The floor is all marvel and the bed was exceptionally comfort, although the comforter I used may have not been washed after someone used it. Don't expect too much for the free breakfast unless you like instant ramen very much. The staff were kind but they didn't know where the airport shuttle stops.

It is a new building the interior is black and depressing. The room was small and no place to put suitcases we had four large ones. The bed was every soft. Location was hard to get to we had ten cab rides and not one was able to get to entrance. The area is very busy.

The hotel and room was a little bit of a challenge to find. But the location is very close to the subway station and there are several things to see and do all with in walking distance. Clean and quiet. We had a wonderful stay and felt very safe.

It’s good for short stay. Breakfast is really simple and no breakfast on Sunday.
