I was expecting somewhere historic and amazing from the reviews, but instead it was OK. The room was dark and although there was a view of the mountains, it was mostly concrete. There was no black tea for a Brit, but it was spacious. The pool and other buildings are under renovation. When theyre finished then Im sure it will be lovely. Food options if you dont want to drive. The Cafe mentioned on the website has become a diner with an uninspiring menu and slow service. The live band in the pub on site were good. Handy location for Big Basin Redwood National Park

The staff was pleasant and the location was lovely, but our room was dirty and the bathroom floor was wet due to a leaky toilet. When we reported the problem, we were handed a stack of towels. Since the bathroom floor and toilet were also dirty, my husband asked for disinfectant and cleaned it up himself. I emailed management about our experience and they never replied.

Exactly what i expected, look forward on returning again soon! The rooms where clean, beds were comfy and the staff were great! Enjoyed that the lodge has its own general store, saves you a trip from driving and also Enjoyed the live bands as well! Definitely Returning!

Cons: The outdoors heaters were out of service and firepits were all off on the outdoor area to lounge at, Would of been nice if they had them all functioning! Also Theyre famous creek dinning area is closed off.

What an absolute treat!! I booked this hotel because it was close to my friend’s house who I was coming to visit and it’s also advertised as pet friendly. Looking through the photos, I thought it looked nice and I was surprised that each guest room had a patio or balcony. When we arrived, the place was beautifully lit up and we could hear live music playing. Check in was very easy. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed every minute that we spent there. The 50’s diner was perfect for breakfast and the bar was perfect for a night cap. All the people that work there are very nice. We will return!!

Power went out for an hour before we checked in, but we hung around and glad we did. Once power was restored we were pleased with our room.
Bed was comfortable, room was clean and the cafe downstairs served a delicious meal. The lodge had great live music that night, but we didn’t stick around for the late night Techno party. If you’re a light sleeper bring ear plugs in case there’s an all night party in the lodge. It didn’t bother us at all. We plan on returning since we love the area and its an affordable stay when you’re just there to sleep after daytime adventures. Thanks Brookdale!

The room was actually pretty, nice but losing the power on our first night there quickly made the room like a refrigerator. This was not good for my wife. She caught a chill and got very sick. We were packing to leave when the power came back on. But the damage had been done. I spent our entire stay caring for my wife who was too weak to travel. Finally, on the evening of our last night, we packed and left, driving all night home. Management was very reluctant to offer us a full, or even partial refund. I would say that the staff gets a “barely passing” grade. At least they gave us extra blankets and towels, but otherwise they seemed nonchalant about our situation or even that the power was out. Since I couldn’t leave my wife, our only food option was the in-house diner. Mediocre food, expensive, but a very nice staff. I appreciate all they did during our stay. Overall, we will never come back. It was an expensive lesson learned and showed us how quickly vulnerable seniors like us can go from an enjoyable experience to a nightmare….

The room was really spacious and super clean, with heat that worked. Unfortunately, check-in didn't go so well. There was a sign on the door that the attendant would be back in 15 minutes. We had to sit in the car for half an hour waiting. The next morning, breakfast was not available. The cafe was not open, so we had to drive elsewhere to have breakfast.

Room was in fine condition, no exterior lighting on the second floor so walking to and from car was in the dark, there was an abandoned vehicle with broken out windows when we pulled in and driveway has loads of large potholes. I imagine this place had a lot of character at one point but, it appears severely neglected at this point. The diner was closed and the pool and area with creek running through it are closed.

The best part about this place was the diner. Amazing food. Super friendly service. Has a great variety and ooen until 10pm. Loved it and would return just for that. The front desk staff was hit or miss. Not overtly friendly or helpful. The adjacent bar had pool and games and was fun. I'd be interested to come back when they had events available, but it was the holiday season so it was slower. The rooms were fine enough. Just expect the basics. No frills. Mostly clean....I had a dead fly on my pillow and the sheets had a dirty spot.

Staff person at the desk on 11/8 in the evening was super attentive and welcoming, was doing it all last night. Checked us in quickly and with a friendly demeanor around 8pm, then we saw him later doing sound for the band playing in the bar hall a little later, then bar backing as well. Also had to get something for a room all in the middle of this. The five stars are really for him, and the fun atmosphere of the music. Regrettably I can’t remember his name. Room itself is roomy and quiet, comfortable but needs some paint patching for scuffs and marks on the wall, the shampoo bottle was leaking from the bottom, and the door jam needs either a deep cleaning or replacing, lots of black marks/dirt around bottom of entrance. A little more maiand this would be perfect. Love waking to the redwoods and quiet around property.

The staff at the Office, Restaurant and Bar were exceptionally friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant! This place is pet-friendly, but the out door pet spaces should be improved.
The breakfast in the restaurant was so delicious, but NOT free! The restaurant has high quality food and choices! The bar has a wide variety of drinks and music on the week ends.

The patio view was nice and bed was comfortable but the carpet was stained. Convenient location to the Felton Hall and the State Park. However, I didn't sleep very much as there was a person underneath me with the tv on loud, very loud till about 5 am, then I was able to sleet about 3 hours! There was no one at the office and the sign for emergencies was so small that I missed when I went downstairs at 2 am. The sign was pointed out to me the next morning when I went to check out and told them of the awful noise. I am an older disable woman, so it was a little difficult in the middle of the night. Otherwise, I would stay there again, hoping it was quieter and have the emergency number on hand. Thank you

My only issue with the room was the jet tub that didn't work. Not working was the smallest issue however. I'm a 61 yr old woman with spinal issues and had to have my husbands assistants in and out of shower because there are no grab bars and there are no slip resistance stickers in bottom of tub.

Zero sound proofing it would seem (between floors and between rooms), as it sounded like a herd of goats were clogging above me all hours of the night. The holes in window screens allowed some bugs in, and generally, despite recent renovations, it's already a tired property, that only has glimmers of its \"hey-day\" -- but the price was fair and there aren't many other better lodging offerings in this stretch of the Santa Cruz mountains. So, overall, a bearable stay, but could have lived without a drunk knocking on my room door by mistake at 11pm. Oh well.

The café at the Brookdale Lodge has new ownership and they catered an event at the lodge fireside lounge for me and my family. If you are looking to entertain at the lodge or nearby you really need to speak with Juan, Mario or Junior they are extraordinary. They did a beautiful brunch in the café as well on Sunday before leaving. They made the event. The lodge has a long way to go in terms of maintenance And a peep and I think they need to go through all the rooms and fix some real rough edges. Faucets were leaking in the sinks and in the bathtub and overall our room was extremely rough. The housekeeping staff was excellent sheets were clean beds were comfortable. I think they may want to bump up the price of teeny bit and spend the money room by room they don't need an overall renovation they just need to clean up the rough edges there were some dangerous spots even. Overall the catering by the café in both the café itself and the fireside lounge River run made up for everything

Chips in the paint on the walls, lack of pressure in the shower, sink in bathroom backed up immediately as did the shower/bath.The grounds are not well cared for: we saw discarded washcloths on the roof & rubbish in the bushes/landscaping. The cafe food was good- we ordered from menu to take-away to our room. Simple fare well done...nice to not have to leave the property. The entry/exit off of/on to hywy 9 seems dicey/dangerous- especially the exit on the south side of the property to pull out on to hywy9- no sightlines due to the huge bdl sign- can't be careful enough. We disobeyed the 'one way' signage to ensure safety by driving from back of property to the main parking lot to exit.

The bed and nightstand smelled strongly of vomit. The friendly, gentlemanly night clerk mentioned nothing about an after-hours phone number. By the time my girlfriend and I returned to the hotel, it was past 10 p.m.—after the clerk had said he would be gone. I ended up sleeping on the floor after unsuccessfully trying to clean the smell with a washcloth and hand soap. Disgusting.

The morning clerk was rude, doubtful, and unsympathetic. He suspiciously asked why I hadn’t called the after-hours number and offered no apology on behalf of the hotel. I even overheard him ask the maintenance manager to investigate “if there was a smell in the room?” There most definitely was a smell, and I had gone to great lengths to describe exactly where it was to the clerk.

I was eventually refunded 50% for the room, which felt insulting considering I didn’t sleep a wink in it.
Vomitus aroma aside—along with tiny, damp bath towels, a broken shampoo dispenser, an uncleaned carpet (which I became too familiar with), loose or broken exterior steps and utility closet doors—the hotel’s surrounding facilities were fun. The bar and restaurant had a great atmosphere, but this place has no business charging what it does for rooms, haunted or not.

It’s a one-star spooky hotel in a cool location with fun nearby services. What it really needs is a serious cash infusion and the surly morning clerk to be replaced.

The room was very clean and nice. Very consistent with pictures advertised.

Horrible stay. The entire hotel was booked with guests of a wedding party that took place right outside our room in the bar parking lot. An outdoor live band from 6-10pm. Then loud music, yelling, screaming, wild behavior and noise until 12mn. The hotel staff answered the phone at 10pm said they would talk with the bar staff. Nothing improved. I had to call the police. The hotel phone went to voicemail after 10pm. Luke warm water in the shower. Had to park in overflow parking and haul our suitcases to the room be at the wedding guests took all the parking. The balcony overlooked the bar and parking lot- no Mountain View. The pool was closed for reconstruction. We weren’t notified of any of this ahead. Do not stay here if you want a peaceful mountain retreat.
