We were accidentally double booked into a room in which we walked in a found peoples’s luggage and heard someone in the bathroom…we quickly backed out and told the front desk what happened. We we then given a different (unoccupied) room. The walls are a bit thin as we can hear neighbor’s conversation and having “fun time.” The hand soap dispenser was out and staff provided us with a new one. There was a large cobweb in the corner of the room, but overall cleanliness was satisfactory. On location there’s a small convenient store, a classic diner, and bar/pool room. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

We really liked how reasonable the rates were, easy to park, very spacious rooms, and super dog-friendly. We enjoyed checking out the small towns and liked how close the hotel was to hiking trails. Plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby.

Our room was large, clean, and comfortable. Loved having coffee machine, but wished they offered tea or hot chocolate instead of just coffee. Handy to have frig with freezer and microwave in room. We were "skipped" on room cleaning until a second request got action on day 6, but didn't refill tissues, cups, or washcloths. Parking was difficult with the parties on the weekends at the restaurant. Loud music stopped around 10:30, but we rather enjoyed it!

The room did not meet basic cleanliness expectations. There were visible long strands of hair (including what appeared to be blonde human hair and dog hair), which made the space feel poorly maintained.
Noise was also a significant issue. Other guests were inconsiderate late into the night, and there was no effective way to address it. I attempted to contact the front desk, but it appears it is not staffed 24 hours, and calls were redirected to voicemail, which left the situation unresolved.
Additionally, the staff seemed overwhelmed and, at times, came across as unpolite, which made interactions less pleasant than expected.
Overall, due to the cleanliness concerns, lack of support during the night, and overall experience, I would recommend considering alternative accommodations if possible.

Was debating between giving it a 2 star or a 3 star but had to give it a two. It wasn't all that clean. The tub was dirty, there was stuff on the shower curtain, hair all around in the floor and one long one in the towel, there was a big hole punched into the wall in the bathroom and there was no vent fan so every-time you take a shower the entire hotel room gets “moist.” The TV disconnected the last day we were there for some reason. Also, THERE IS NO MICROWAVE! Usually a deal breaker for me, but if you’re thinking to use the mini fridge and then warm something up some leftovers, you can’t. One of the beds was slanted which made sleeping a bit difficult. The rooms are totally not sound proof as we could hear our neighbors’ nighttime activities. I will say however that they have live music all weekend at the bar there and you can’t hear it from the room unless you open the window. They have a little “store” for basic goods, but the hours weren’t reliable. Went there after 9am on a Monday and the doors were locked and no one was in the office either though someone was seen walking around the side of the building, but not sure if this was a staff person or not.
All in all, I gave this a 2 star because it is historic and you can stay here without high expectations. I wouldn’t stay here again though. Might come by in the future to eat at the diner and check out the Brook Room if it, the pool, and the mermaid room ever finish getting renovated to check them out too.

The rooms were great inside…roomy, clean and with nice mango liquid soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Also had a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker which was nice. The balcony was spacious…view mostly of a building but could also see trees in the distance. The pavement needs to desperately be redone since huge potholes made it difficult to drive on. The guy who checked me in could have been a lot more friendly and welcoming since he was just so business like without a smile. Dogs next door barked a lot since owners were gone….i have dogs so didn’t bother me much. Also could hear walking and talking of others quite a bit. Nice, friendly cafe on premises. Didn’t visit the bar area but it looked interesting. Overall I would stay again if in the area…the price was very reasonable.

The walls were very thin you could hear everything happening. The carpet had duct tape on it to hold it down. The door to the balcony did not lock. Once people started showering in the mornings you could hear all the water. It is a very convenient area for the things we wanted to. That was about the only bonus.

I had some chicken wings and they were ok, the barmaid in the bar is really friendly but they closed early so we had one pint and then we were thrown out. The rooms are big but the corridors and the public areas really need a spruce up. Location is great, loads of car park space, apparently in peak season they are full. Our balcony overlooked the car park and freeway, nice !!!

The hotel is very lovely; it features restaurants and a bar—great spots for spending time with family. It also has a small shop where you can pick up anything you might have forgotten. The exterior is absolutely beautiful. However, the rooms have a very unpleasant musty odor; I could barely sleep because of the smell, and the humidity even made my nose feel congested. On the other hand, the staff were very friendly. I forgot my glasses, and they mailed them to my home—for a fee of $15.00, of course—but it was a great service.

I was expecting somewhere historic and amazing from the reviews, but instead it was OK. The room was dark and although there was a view of the mountains, it was mostly concrete. There was no black tea for a Brit, but it was spacious. The pool and other buildings are under renovation. When theyre finished then Im sure it will be lovely. Food options if you dont want to drive. The Cafe mentioned on the website has become a diner with an uninspiring menu and slow service. The live band in the pub on site were good. Handy location for Big Basin Redwood National Park

What an absolute treat!! I booked this hotel because it was close to my friend’s house who I was coming to visit and it’s also advertised as pet friendly. Looking through the photos, I thought it looked nice and I was surprised that each guest room had a patio or balcony. When we arrived, the place was beautifully lit up and we could hear live music playing. Check in was very easy. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed every minute that we spent there. The 50’s diner was perfect for breakfast and the bar was perfect for a night cap. All the people that work there are very nice. We will return!!

The room was actually pretty, nice but losing the power on our first night there quickly made the room like a refrigerator. This was not good for my wife. She caught a chill and got very sick. We were packing to leave when the power came back on. But the damage had been done. I spent our entire stay caring for my wife who was too weak to travel. Finally, on the evening of our last night, we packed and left, driving all night home. Management was very reluctant to offer us a full, or even partial refund. I would say that the staff gets a “barely passing” grade. At least they gave us extra blankets and towels, but otherwise they seemed nonchalant about our situation or even that the power was out. Since I couldn’t leave my wife, our only food option was the in-house diner. Mediocre food, expensive, but a very nice staff. I appreciate all they did during our stay. Overall, we will never come back. It was an expensive lesson learned and showed us how quickly vulnerable seniors like us can go from an enjoyable experience to a nightmare….

Room was freezing without heater on but warmed up after we left it on and left for a while. I’m glad WiFi was provided because we had no service. Rooms were spacious but not sure if they felt overall clean.

The room was really spacious and super clean, with heat that worked. Unfortunately, check-in didn't go so well. There was a sign on the door that the attendant would be back in 15 minutes. We had to sit in the car for half an hour waiting. The next morning, breakfast was not available. The cafe was not open, so we had to drive elsewhere to have breakfast.

Room was in fine condition, no exterior lighting on the second floor so walking to and from car was in the dark, there was an abandoned vehicle with broken out windows when we pulled in and driveway has loads of large potholes. I imagine this place had a lot of character at one point but, it appears severely neglected at this point. The diner was closed and the pool and area with creek running through it are closed.
