The people at the front desk were a little shady. Guests receive breakfast coupons the day before that can be used at a local restaurant. The first day we did not use ours. I went in later that day and asked if we could receive four instead for the following day. We were told no and they were adamant that we return the prior day coupons.

Nice outside common area for relaxing. Very clean. Rooms were quite cramped but the bed was comfortable. I also wonder if indirect reservations (e.g., through Expedia) get less desirable rooms. Our room was down a dark exterior hallway and our view was of the hallway wall. Just about every other room at the hotel had great views of the surrounding mountains. That was very disappointing given that we reserved it over a month in advance.

Overall it was a really enjoyable stay at the Matterhorn. It was quiet, the rooms were clean and well appointed, and there were plenty of great restaurants and shops within easy walking distance. The only thing I think prospective visitors need to know is that while it is a resort town, it looked like there was only one bar open past 10pm. All the other shops/restaurants close around 9pm or so. Other than that, the stay was amazing and the mountain views were absolutely stunning!

Ouray is a wonderful litttle mountain town and when we decided to stay an extra day, they gave us a fair price and made it an easy process. Cute motel. Up to date paint, flowers, hot tub, fire pit, etc. Cute communal gathering area outside. It is an updated motel, not hotel. No elevators. Luckily it's only a 2- story building. The included breakfast was 1 block away at a Mexican restaurant. You are given a certificate with a menu list of 5 items to choose from. You then walk over, be seated, and order breakfast. Coffee included. Would stay again.

The main level of the home boasts expansive views of the San Sophia ridgeline and two large outdoor decks, and its large open living space is comprised of a living room with a lovely wood burning fireplace, a functional kitchen, and a family dining table.
Above the kitchen and living room there is a nicely sized loft area accessed by a fixed ladder with two full sized futons, perfect for the kids or teenagers in your group. Down the hall you'll find the master suite with a King sized bed, a separate sitting room with a small sofa sleeper, and a private en suite bathroom.
The lower level of the home has a large rec room with a gas fireplace and a super comfortable overstuffed sofa that offers a wonderful getaway for the kids, or a cozy place to watch movies or the big game as a group. The ski room was truly designed for the ski enthusiast with direct access to the ski trail, ample ski racks, and boot dryers to ensure that your boots are always toasty and dry as you hit the slopes.
