I was afraid this hotel would be a scam because I didn’t read many reviews about it and all of them were very positive. However, it was in fact real and really good, it’s located in a central area of Amsterdam, easy to walk to the city center and about five minutes from Rijksmuseum walking. There are many restaurants near by and that was a really positive point as well.
Also, the staff would leave clean towels and toilet paper in front of my door everyday, which was really nice. The room was clean and comfortable, the only problem was that because my room was next to the main door and in the street side I could hear some noise but that’s not directly the hotel’s fault so it wasn’t a big issue for me. Overall l would really recommend it to whoever is planning a trip to Amsterdam.

★☆☆☆☆ Extremely Disappointing Stay

I really wish I had known this hotel was located directly above a nightclub that’s open until 5/6am. The noise alone would’ve been bad enough, but what happened on the first night made the stay unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.

At around 4 a.m., the fire alarm went off and blared for nearly an hour before anyone turned it off. Every guest had to stand outside in the rain while the hotel filled with smoke, and there was absolutely no communication or reassurance from staff. The “AI” check-in/assistance system was completely unhelpful during the emergency, and what worried me most was that the fire brigade never even showed up.

The room itself didn’t make up for any of this. It was small, dark, and the windows didn’t open, which made the space feel even more claustrophobic—especially unsettling after the smoke incident.

Overall, it was a stressful and uncomfortable experience, and I wouldn’t stay here again.

Just a heads up to anyone checking in late, we basically had to walk through a rave to get to the hotel. The door was inside a smokey bar. We got to our room and there was only 2 towels despite booking for 3 guests. No shampoo or conditioner. The room itself was fine but overpriced for what it was and the lack of amenities.

Very disappointed. The shower has mould, the heating wasn‘t working, the portable heater they got us only worked for 5mins. The reception was almost always unattended. It was VERY loud and since the windows aren’t good you could hear the noise from outside very well, and since there are bars, it was until 1/2am. The spare key cards for ALL rooms were left in the same lockbox (incl name and room number written on it), so any other hotel guest of the hotel could have entered our room or taken a card before check in. For 300.- a night I‘d expect a decent room. We should get a refund for this.

The room was very clean and well presented when we arrived, and cleaned every day after with new towels.

It is in a very convenient location to travel into the city centre, with lots of bars and food places nearby to try. The nearby area is very busy at night, but where we stayed on the top floor we could not hear any noise when trying to get to sleep.

The stairs are very tall and thin so accessibility may be an issue for some, but we saw them in the hotel pictures, so we expected this, and had no issues transporting our luggage. Less-abled visitors should keep this in mind

We would definitely stay here again when planning another break to Amsterdam.

Convenient South End Property

Typical of Amsterdam. No elevator and 4 flights of steps. I did expect this though-no surprises. I had to hand our luggage up to someone standing on the next level, there’s no way you’re carrying up- typical Amsterdam.
Although the hotel is in a very busy plaza, the rooms are on the back and we couldn’t hear any of the loud crowds- I was surprised.

The check-in was not great, rude lady over the phone told us not her problem about the stairwell and no one around to help with the check in, very narrow and steep staircase that is winding. Extremely tiny room, have to step over the bed to get around, no room for any luggage, small bathroom, very hot at night and noisy due to bars that turn into nightclubs all night directly down below. Although, the location is good though.

The woman who checked me in on Thursday afternoon for my three day stay was very nice. I never saw anyone at the desk again.
The room was fine (small European style room) and everything worked. It was clean and quiet on the back side of the building. The front side would have been noisier as the hotel is right on Rembrandtplein which has many pubs and restaurants. The location is quite convenient.
One thing to know is that the stairs are very steep and narrow and I wouldn’t recommend carrying more than one bag at a time up those stairs which are not very well lit.
Overall a very nice stay!

This is a good small hotel to spend the night. Centrally located to a lot of restaurants. Near public transportation. But is an old house converted to a hotel and is very noisy because bars stay open until very late at night. And there is no elevator and very small steep steps so hard to take big luggage to the 2nd and 3rd floor… but is no luggage and can go up the stairs with no issues. Good hotel. Great staff.

The bar below us stays open until 4:00 or 5:00am depending on the night. The dj keeps the music going with a loud bass. Probably 80 people outside the bar chatting, yelling, smoking. Did not sleep properly any night. The room itself was small. There was a fridge which was great. And the bed was decent. Shower spills out into rest of bathroom. Staff were very nice and helpful.

Was looking forward to staying here at the bolster being a frequent traveller in Amsterdam I have spent a lot of time in Rembrandtplein but not stayed before,
Prior to arrival I had good communication with the hotel to advise of my arrival (they asked) I agreed to arrive at stated booking time of 2pm

On arrival I was told check is 3pm and my room
Wouldn’t be ready till then, I loaded my booking and other booking providers information that all show booking is at 2pm as well messages from the hotel staff.

The staff member on duty blamed in her words errors by low capacity staff that they give second chances too and allow to work. Why on earth this was needed to be told to me.

Anyway my plans were ruined I had booked a private boat to celebrate a anniversary for 4pm and now had now where to get ready till 3pm.

On return at 3 I was offered 2 miniature soft drinks as an apology this was offensive as firstly they are tiny and what humane person drinks coke.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bolster. I would advise people that this is located in a very busy/touristy part of Amsterdam with outdoor restaurants and clubs. You can hear the noise slightly even 2 floors up. The staff were friendly and polite, they allowed us to enter our room early and to leave our luggage with them at check-out. Very comfy bed, with a tv and a/c.
Would recommend a stay if you are going to explore the city as its in a great location making everywhere easily walkable.

We had a great time at Bolster! Room was tiny but just what we needed. Area is great but definitely not quiet, so if you are looking for calm gateway then I would chose somewhere else. Plenty of food options and coffeeshops in the area. Also be prepared to climb some stairs! No elevator, but it had its European charm :)

The staff were very helpful as we needed to check in after they had left for the day, so we arranged to pick up the cards using the lock box. The room was nice, although if you have any mobility issues, you may find the typical Dutch steep staircases quite hard to navigate. The bathroom door didn't close properly but the staff explained how the old buildings in the area shift a lot and this was why. The AC was a little noisy and you heard footsteps on the stairs but other than that it was quite quiet (except a faint sound of music from nearby bars). For the price I am pleased with the accomodation and really liked the colour schemes and it was fantastic being so close to a town centre by Rembrantplein and plenty of places to go for food and drink nearby. It's also very close to tram links which is very handy.

The Bolster is in a great location just off Rembrandtplein and a short walk from the flower market. A boutique style hotel that offers room only. The property is in the older narrow typical dutch style so beware of the stairs as they're steep and narrow! The Bolster is clean and tidy, offers value for money and the staff are lovely!

Stayed in the nightlife experience room which was really pretty and cosy. Perfect location - a 10/15 min walk in any direction to the main sites. A lot bigger than expected and was a pleasant stay. On a weekend it can be quite loud from the bars/clubs around but that is to be expected in any hotel close to Amsterdam city centre

Bad hotel to stay. The gentleman was such a great help for my late check in and leave, excellent with great manner. But day time only from 10 to 5 there is 1 lady there and she is too busy with other things.. and my friend told me she has terrible manners. Staircase is unreasonably steep and small, lucky the staff gentleman helped me carry the luggage otherwise i am i m in deep trouble. Not possible for any woman with big luggage to go up. There is No lobby, no front door, i m there for vacation, not a jail time. Room is smallest i ever been. Things inside the hotel room such as kettle, coffee mugs... they are full of dust. Coffee mug still has stain inside... never been somewhere like this before..

Hotel was located above a bar/club which wasn’t mentioned anywhere? Extremely loud until 6 in the morning, staff were pleasant but no one was about to talk to about the issue or to book a cab for us. Stairs were extremely steep, had to go up 3 sets with a 20kg bag and no staff offered any help. NOT worth the 300 Euros we spent to stay there for 3 nights. No air con with a small room got very hot, ruined our experience completely.

Don't trust your bookings !

I had a terrible welcome. On arrival to the Bollster hotel, reception told me that she just cancelled my booking !

She cancelled my booking without informed me via email/ call !

I had no place to stay, no room to sleep......until I found another hotel which charged me 3 times as much !

A terrible experience ! They don't trust their clients ! ..........don't trust your bookings with certain hotels ! Be careful

The room I got is cute (the one next to the street in front of the hotel). Staff is nice and friendly, also, really helpful with the city information. By the way, the entrance stair is pretty tight and steep. It can be a problem for ladies with heavy luggage. But the hotel itself is brilliant.

THIS IS NOT A HOTEL

This is not a hotel. There is no staff, no lobby, no elevator (enjoy lugging your luggage up their tiny steep flights of stairs), no food options, etc. This is basically a glorified Airbnb- you call a number when you arrive and get your keys from a lockbox. If you need help (our keys had been taken by another guest) then you have to wait 20 minutes for someone to bicycle over. And the daily “housekeeping” is a joke- they hastily made the bed and nothing else (didn’t even touch the bathroom). We specifically paid $300/night to NOT have to stay in an Airbnb. Incredibly furious and disappointed.

Very well designed and generally comfortable. However, there were several issues. The bathroom cold water knob fell off in my hand. The coffee maker leaked and spilled water everywhere. The worst was the glass door that would get stuck blocking my room entry -- one day I actually walked into it and hit my head.

Exception location where you’re 15 minute walk from all areas of interest. They accommodated our early check in needs without us having to ask. Beautifully appointed rooms that are of course small but we had a lovely view and they provide everything you need including converters and Nespresso machine. The only draw back is the incredibly steep flight of stairs with no lift. I was able to get my huge bag up but I’m young and fit. If you’re older you would most likely not be able to make it up the steep incline. You can hear the music from the club below in your room but it wasn’t loud enough to where it kept me awake and I am a light sleeper. I look forward to staying at this hotel again!

Lovely hotel in perfect location only 3 tram stops on no 4 or 14 from centraal station. Lots of food options surrounding the establishment. The hotel is only part time supervision, so we were lucky when we arrived that there was somebody there to greet us. It is a typical Amsterdam hotel with several flights of tight stairs, so I would only recommend this hotel if you don’t have heavy bags. Apart from that the room was clean lovely well maintained the only negative’s were no phone in the bedroom to call reception and on departure we were told we can leave our bags with the guy at reception and that if he wasn’t there he would leave it behind the desk and when we returned we found our bags just sitting in the main foyer for anybody to pick up.

Well... let me just tell you that we had to book another hotel for a night during our stay at the Bolster as we couldn’t possibly sleep.

Staffs were very helpful and nice but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for those who are 30+ years old. We need a good night of sleep to enjoy the city, don’t we.

Well.... I was shocked.

Walking Intot he hotel I wasn’t happy as it wasn’t written on the info that we had to walk up tiny steps, it also did not say that where was a club underneath. As walking up the stairs it stunk of alcohol which made me feel sick both when entering and leaving the hotel. we could hear and feel the music from the clubs round the corner which wasn’t great as I’m a light sleeper. We wanted to keep the window open which obviously didn’t help be we had no choice if we wanted fresh air. Other than that, the room was lovely and clean which was nice. There was two duvet covers for the bed because 1 would of been too small. It was nice but I won’t be staying here again. I didn’t feel really safe at all, also my documents where scanned and the reception wasn’t corded off so anyone could look in the files which where left on the floor. Which is really bad.

The hotel location was fantastic! My sister and I were only in town for a 2 day stay, so the hotel was an okay choice and we had no real problems. I think for a quick stay, where you won't spend much time in the hotel, this hotel was a good choice. If you are staying for longer, I might suggest a different hotel. #1 The room service was only on-site for a limited time, so because we were still in our room at 10am, we missed the room service (unlike larger hotels where you might be able to ask them to come back later). #2 The rooms are VERY small. Almost too tight for two people, we could barely open our suitcases and have space to walk. #3 There is no elevator and the stairs are quite narrow and steep. We are two women in our 20s, so we made it work. But if you would have trouble carrying your suitcase up two to 4 flights of long, narrow stairs this could be a problem. The first level of rooms is still up at least 1 flight of steep stairs.

The staff was very friendly and helpful though and the rooms and bathroom were clean. I would still re-book here for a weekend or short stay. But would make sure I packed light and only planned on being there 2-3 days.

The bolster

You can’t fault the location it’s great the only issue is the narrow small stairs getting up and down. We didn’t see much of the staff just sort of wandered in and out the tv had 1 English Channel if you was lucky in our room we had a hole in the ceiling which I don’t think is very professional for the price you’re paying. Don’t know if it’s worth the price paid but was an okay stay

Would definitely stay again

Great location within walking distance of everything we planned to do - it can be a bit noisy due to the location but we fully expected that when we booked and the room itself was excellent.

This was in the heart of Amsterdam in a great location. It is right over a bar so on the nights the club/bar is open it is noisy. But the room was cool and had everything we needed!

Okay hotel but far too expensive

The hotel itself is in a great location and is very modern and stylish. The room itself was small and and didn't have space to hang clothes or coats or enough useful storage.

We stayed 4 nights which cost us 420 euros. For this i'd expect a fridge, an iron and much more room which this hotel did not have.

It was also extremely loud every night. We were prepared for this and bought ear phones but this should be advertised more as I only knew this from looking at reviews.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay but the price of the room for the quality of the room was not in line.

Had a wonderful 4 night stay over the New Years holiday. Great communication and worked with me when I had problems with this first overseas booking. Staff was extremely friendly. Location was great, just steps from the tram line, canals and coffee shops! We stayed in the nightlife experience room and can say we had no noise issues from the club below. Maybe it was sheer luck, but they were only opened during NYE and closed every other night. The stairs are steep, but nothing like other places in Amsterdam. The only complaint I have is the walls are paper thin and every conversation can be overheard, and the shower had a tendency to flood. Overall We has a great stay and would recommend.

P.S there is no fridge and the entrance to the hotel is to the left of the club. The button there isn’t an intercom, it’s a doorbell.

Don't stay if you want to sleep

The hotel describes itself as a boutique hotel, but I would say it is far from it, mainly due to the fact that it's above a nightclub and they seem to have forgotten to install any soundproofing.

The hotel sits right on top of a nightclub which booms out music until 5am on the weekends, and 1 am through the week. The music was stupidly loud, so much so I might as well have been having the party in my room. Even with the nightclub was closed you could hear the people in the next room going to the toilet, so far from a peaceful place.

The room itself was pleasant, very big comfy bed, shower, with a tv. Sadly no view from the hotel, just a small window that looked out onto the wall of the next building around 2 meters away. The hotel doesn't have any other facilities other than the 12 rooms, there isn't even a reception to speak of, just a small desk which is manned during the day.

The one plus point is that the people that checked us in were very nice.

Great location, beautiful room.

Great location, a bit noisy but very central and on the fourth floor it was less noisy. The room was beautiful, spacious and very clean. Take into account very steep stairs.

Super cozy room

Surprise trip for my boyfriend's birthday couldn't of picked a better hotel it was super cozy and was surrounded by pubs which is a bonus for us and everything was walking distance.

Directly Above Club - Blasts Music Until 5:30AM

If you are looking for a place to stumble back to drunk at 5:30AM when the clubs close then the Bolster might do fine. The Bolster is directly above The Bastille, a club for locals. The music is pounding dance music -- if you're on the first floor your room is literally shaking all night. On the third floor (my second night) it is better but still very loud but less vibrations. To get into the hotel in the evening you have to present your key to the 2 Bouncers who at first think you are a tourist wanting entry to the club for locals. I really didn't care but it is definitely not welcoming and I can see people having a big problem with this, feeling intimidated every time they want to get to their room. Overall I can't see many people willing to put up with this level of noise at such a late hour. I was there Friday and Saturday night so I imagine my experience was a \"worst case\" scenario and mid-week stays might not be subjected to the club underneath. I don't know this for sure but I assume the club closes earlier during the week.

I pre-booked 2 nights on Expedia and paid in full. I asked if I could check out and get a refund for the second night and \"the owner\" refused. They gave me a room on the 3rd floor that was better but still far too noisy for sleep. This was not an acceptable solution and not prudent. I NEVER write reviews but after this experience even I will take the time to expose the major shortcoming of this hotel. Expedia will be notified as well.

Poor service and noisy neighborhood

The hotel is in a very noisy neighborhood, the staff is never in the hotel, the towels and toiletries don't get changed after first night. The hotel is expensive for what it offers. It has no elevator and the stairs are very narrow.
Terrible place to stay.

Not a hotel

Simply rooms, with no lobby or elevator.
We had to go up 4 floors of stairs to get to our room.
Bathroom flooded.

Okay for 20 somethings...

This hotel is great if you want to be central to bars etc. If I was in my 20s I likely would have rated this place 10/10, but as someone in their 30s with a fair amount of travel experience - this hotel felt more like a fancy hostel. I should point out that our bed was incredibly confortable...

While the staff was certainly friendly, there was a lack of professionalism and attention to detail. Cleaning supplies, paper towels, etc where often in plain sight, the sign-in desk was unorganized, some of the carpet nailers on the stairs were broken (pretty important given how steep/narrow the stairs are), the shower/toilet was clean but the walls and trim were not.
