Great location only 5 minutes walk away from most places, right in the heart of Amsterdam. Room was very clean although a bit dated, we only spent time here to sleep to be fair and it was exactly what we needed!

Stay away from this hotel. If there's a negative star, I would give a negative star! This hotel is unbelievably UNLivable!!! Nasty, filthy, and extremely dirty! There's a reason why they have the \"nonrefundable\" policy, because if they allow refunds, everyone will cancel and no one will book this hotel. The bathroom is nasty and stinky with pee stain on the floor. The toilet water leaks on the floor. Molds everywhere. Ceiling has water leaks and stains. The room itself is scary and extremely dirty. Spider webs all over the curtains. They have no bath towels nor wash cloths. They give you a hand towel and expect to dry yourself with that. No toiletries. The public transportation is extremely far. They claimed that they have been voted for great location and that's a lie! Lastly, the total amount I'm supposed to pay per Expedia is almost 2x the amount they charge you. STAY AWAY! Book somewhere else or else you'll regret it!

Charged extra amount on arrival…. The owners were argumentative and unwelcoming at checkin! Charged us a €20 cleaning fee then an extra €20 for what is unknown!! Plus a €100 deposit!! Thought we had pod Expedia the full amount on booking.

Previous guests undergarments were found under the bed as well as a sticky substance on the valance sheet! Room was extremely un hygienic. No bath towels provided just hand towels.

Fire alarm went off in the middle of the night…. As if this wasn't enough the manager then came to wake us up again later for an update!!

Reception/bar has opening hours of 9am -12pm but we never saw it open…

Faulty towers!!

Perfect location but thats the only thing going for this place!!

My €100 still not returned to me…. My credit card company have filed a complaint

The staff were very friendly, check in nice & straightforward. Lovely traditional Dutch house with quirky staircase. Room clean & tidy, it did have the smallest bathroom I’ve ever seen but for a couple of days stay it wasn’t a problem. Great location.

The room was very unloved, really needs a coat of paint and varnish. Less mirrors on the ceiling and walls would be good. The bathroom was extremely tiny, in fact you could clean your teeth while you are using the toilet the sink was that close. We were unable to use the shower due to the state it was in.....black mould on the shower ceiling and ceiling paper coming away, shower head was thickly caked in limescale and the tiles were all loose around the bottom of the panel. On a lighter note, the staff were lovely and very helpful and the out of hours instructions on how to get your key were great.

Bedbugs! My daughter stayed on 12/6 to 12/7. Had reservation until 12/9 but left due to non sanitary conditions in the room. On 12/9 coming back home, started to feel the bites. It cab take days to feel them. Especially 1st time. I am calling authorities in Amsterdam and want full refund of the stay.

The staff and reception are the only reason I’m not giving one star. Unfortunately the rooms and the rest of the building are way past their best. Windows are cracked, floor tiles are broken, thick layer of dust on the bed frame and the bathroom is a mess of peeling sealant, carpets in the hall are threadbare and paintwork has worn off.
The bathroom of my room was tiny, you have to climb over the toilet to get in the shower and you can rest your head on the sink in front of you while sitting on the toilet.
For the price, I shouldn’t be surprised and wasn’t expecting five star, just a well put together basic room.

As we say in scotland..... What a f***ing dirty Sh**e hole.
You will find bedding that doesnt fit.
You will find the place dirty with dust and old dirt.
You will find the toilet seat hanging off.
You will find the shower fitting just sitting on itself, no where to hang it.
You will find the bathroom door, disintegrate, cause its soaked up so much water.
You will find that no televisions work,
You will find the bathroom ceiling and walls covered in black mould, not just the stuff you might see in caulk/silicone.
Was booked for 4 nights, left after the 1st.
And i have the pics to prove all points madr, and will be able to view via google maps
Save your money and stay elsewhere.
Cost myself an extra £437 to book another hotel, and still waiting on my room tax refund.

Although we didn’t have breakfast (didn’t start until way too late), I understand the choices were very limited. Rooms were very small, staircases were very narrow which made carrying our luggage up the stairs quite difficult. The front desk was very friendly. Location of hotel was great so if that is important then this is the hotel for you. If a little larger room with some amenities is important then I would look elsewhere.

Location was great but they need to note there is no elevator and there are 5 floors. We were on the 4th. Also the lobby & lobby bar were closed Sundays & Mondays so couldn’t even get a coffee in the mornings. They advertise the lobby bar that is beautiful but never open. Room was smal, tv didn’t work and the lighting in the bathroom was awful. Only met the staff on check-in and checkout.

I am used to small European hotels and I generally like them for being “unique”, as opposed to the big chain hotels. I didn’t mind the lack of elevator or the steep, narrow staircases. However, certain things could and should be better. For example there was not a single electrical outlet in the room. After looking around for half hour, I found behind the curtain a short extension cord connected to an outlet in the ceiling. The bathroom was incredibly small with the toilet bowl almost touching the sink. There was minimal lighting and the main light fixture was hanging from the ceiling. The reception was open only a few hours in the morning and in the afternoon. Closed from Friday afternoon to Monday morning. It would have been useful if some of these details were included in the description of the hotel. Nevertheless, I did enjoy my stay. I hope the other rooms are better than the one I had.

Be prepared for steep stairs! I knew there wasn't an elevator, but staying on the fourth (US fifth) floor was a pretty steep hike. The room and bed were comfortable, though the TV didn't have a signal. The bathroom was a bit cramped, but the shower had great water pressure and hot water. There wasn't daily housekeeping in the room, which was fine for me, but FYI for others. I loved the convenience of the location -- it was close to a lot and super convenient, but on a quiet canal and so was nicely peaceful at night. It was also a lot closer to Waterlooplein than it seemed on the map, so that was a nice surprise when arriving. The room would be tight for two people, but wasn't too cramped for just me.

Friendly staff called a taxi for us many times ( It poured and we couldn’t walk to our destination). towel bars in bathroom are needed to reuse towels. Remove the chairs and put in a luggage holder. The location was nice. But the hotel was terrible. Our bathroom didn’t have a shower attached to the wall. It was just laying on the ground. And there was mold all over the bathroom because the water from the shower just spilled all over the entire bathroom floor and never dried up. And the toilet seat was broken.

I knew from other reviews that there was no elevator. And the stairs were tight and steep, but that was expected and alright.

But I couldn’t get over the bathroom and the mold. It made the whole situation unbearable so we actually checked out early and had to pay double to then stay at another hotel.

Know What You Are Getting

In order to fairly review this hotel, i have to set the level of expectation of the perspective traveler(s).

First, Amsterdam is expensive during the high season, so keep that in mind. Of you have the money to stay in a nice place, by al means, do it. If you are a student traveler backing around Europe, this hotel will probably feel like a Four Seasons. If you are on a budget and want a mix of location and price, this hotel may work for you.

What to expect if you book this hotel. The staff was great. They were extremely friendly and accommodating. The helped us with all of our questions and stored our luggage after we checked out. The next thing to expect is that there isn’t an elevator and the stairs are very steep and narrow. This is not the hotel for you if you have strength or mobility issues. Many buildings in Amsterdam are constructed this way (for a reason) so only the big hotels are likely to have an elevator.
The rooms are small and the bathrooms are smaller. But, it was super convenient being able to brush my teeth and shave with a sink inside the shower!! The bed was comfortable but because the room didn’t have A/C, it was noisy because the windows were open.
If you are a traveler that goes to a city to explore and experience, and you just need a clean bed and hot shower after being out all day and night, this is a good option. It was in a great location for walking to all of the sites. If you need to be spoiled and pampered, look elsewhere.

Ok, this hotel had some horror stories on Google reviews (though not on Expedia for some reason). I'll address this by saying--I didn't see problems that would justify those reviews. No rats, no errant animal traps, no leaking plumbing. I wouldn't be surprised if the rat issues were seen outside the building or on ground floor and sorry to break the mystique of Amsterdam for people but there are A LOT of rats in the city. Saw more than a few while I was out at night. It would make sense to see one in a trap once in a while.

That being said, this place is a dive. It's an older UNESCO building (as much of the city centre is) and it shows inside. Decor is older, bad carpeting throughout, bathrooms are pretty rough with the worst shower I've ever seen (shower head poking out of ceiling), lights that don't work, rust stains setting in. Not surpised there may be a mold issue but my shower curtain seemed brand new.

The stairs are horrible. Thin, tall, winding staircase with unevenly sized steps and you may very well be on the 5th floor (I was the 4th) and there is NO ELEVATOR. I don't mind taking the stairs but these ones are hard enough to navigate without 25kl of luggage. I saw some older couples that were having a very hard time on the steps so I warn anyone over 50, get a different hotel.

The reason I gave 3 stars instead of 2 is the location. It is close to Centraal Station and every tourist site and the price is right.

The good: Historic property, Clean, location, felt secure, excellent and very comfortable bed. The NOT so good: Tiny bedroom, bath stall; hard to keep water confined to the shower pan, almost unable to open the window; as there is no AC and needed air circulation.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Rembrandtplein Hotel. It is a small European boutique hotel with 20 rooms overlooking a canal and well located in Central Amsterdam.

The owner, Tiko, and his wife, Elena, are very pleasant. One of the workers, Christina, is also a delight. She deserves a raise :). All of them were attentive, kind and went out of there way to be helpful. They all helped make our stay more enjoyable.

My friend and I stayed in separate rooms on the first floor, which is one narrow flight of stairs up. There is no lift (elevator). The walls are quite thin. My friend commented that she could hear everything I said while we were each in our own rooms and when I walked around my room.

My room with its double bed was relatively small with about 15 inches between the foot of the bed and the wall to pass through when crossing from one side of the room to the other side. So getting around the room was tight.

There is no luggage rack. I put the two sitting chairs front to front to hold my luggage.

The bed was very comfortable. The room was fairly clean and the bathroom, though small, was clean and modern. The towels were changed upon request. This is no soap or shampoo provided. Be sure to bring your own.

Overall, if you don't require much space or can adapt to a small room, I would recommend Rembrandtplein Hotel, primarily for its location and very kind staff.

Check in was great. The room was disappointing but the bed and pillows were good. The towels rolled up on the bed felt damp, the towels and comforter were stained. We got one fresh towl one day out of our trip and the bed wasn't made daily, i assume it would be. Paint was peeling or missing in sections off the wall, bathroom door and ceiling. The windows were pretty gross. I get it's an old building but the linens should be in better conditions. The area was great and quite. Short walk to Jumbo for daily groceries as the room has no fridge to keep some milk and friut for breakfast. The room on the floor above us was not quiet. Grew to enjoy hearing the church bells/songs.

Amazing location and comfortable stay. I was a bit skeptical booking after reading so many negative reviews, but the experience was great. Very clean room with no smell of old building. Clean towels and bed sheets. Very friendly and helpful staff. The location is the best - walking distance to main Amsterdam attractions. Bathroom would benefit from a little renovation, but still very clean. Hot water is not a problem. It was a little chilly in the room (we visited in February) but not too cold. Would be nice to have a coffee machine in the room for such early birds as us since bar downstairs opens only at 9 AM. Overall great experience for a very reasonable price. I definitely recommend.

My first reaction was small property but everything is the same around, and to be honest the room was spacious, bigger than expected. Even though I didnt find the heater, it was warm. The only problem I got was the mold on the shower door. It gave me an allergy reaction and fever. That door must be taken away.

Wonderful staff and perfect location, just such a shame about how dated and run down the rooms are. It was livable, but not particularly nice to be in.

The shower room is tiny and water pools inside, and our toilet had a cable tie for a flush, which staff were very apologetic for. Very odd room filled with lots of mirrors…

That said, bedding was clean, and the bed was comfy. The location couldn’t have been more perfect for where we needed to be, and at the price we paid, you don’t exactly expect luxury! 3 stars overall

You pretty much get a bed and bathroom, nothing more. No body wash or shampoo provided at the hotel. You can’t adjust the temperature in the room. It was cold during my stay, I just layered up when I sleep. Overall it’s a fair hotel.

Wonderful, friendly staff

The hotel is in a cool historic building right on a canal. Be prepared for the stairs, there isn’t an elevator. The room was really small, but the window opened and we had our own tiny bathroom. The staff and owner were absolutely wonderful. I can’t say enough nice things about them. There is also a nice lounge area in the lobby and a smoking lounge downstairs. If traveling on a budget, I would stay here again.

The outside of the property is beautiful and really well located. The staff are friendly and the hotel is secure.
Our room was a basic double, in the UK we expect a standard that this was below unfortunately, although the price was good, i'd rather have paid a bit more for a better standard of room. The ceiling had cracks, the bathroom looked dirty, although it wasn't, the marble tiles have gone yellow and the unit front was wearing aware. Due to this my husband refused to use the bathroom.
some things to be aware of, the towels supplied were 2 small towels each, there is nowhere to put anything in the bathroom - toothbrush etc, there are no tea making facilities and no food allowed in the room, no hairdryer or iron either.
I'm giving this honest feedback because i feel if the rooms were maintained and some customer consideration was taken this hotel could be amazing and would be able to charge alot more for the rooms.

The hotel was in a great location, easy to get to the museums and Dam square.
The bathroom was clean but smelly, the fan does not work.
The room was cold, no way to adjust the temperature.

Nice people, toilet seat was not secure. No elevators. There wasn’t any outlets by bed. Needed updated stuff. Good location.

Perfect location

Great location, very quiet room, good heating at night. I’m 6’2” and hit my head a lot walking around the room and hotel, but that’s normal in Europe, and bed was a little small for my height.
