This central hotel close to the Dam Square, is known for being home away from home for our many guests who return year after year. Hotel Damsquare offers a 24-hour reception and bicycle rental is available.

The location is great, the staff are friendly and the price compares with similar hotels in the area. But when we arrived after a long fight from the west coast of Canada, the first two floors were being thoroughly renovated in a way that was noisy and complicated climbing the stairs past that, the hot water wasn’t working, and the AC/ heater left the room either too cool or too hot. The washroom was too small to be comfortable. There was no breakfast. In the least, there should have been more warning about the conditions and a reduction in price in compensation. I cancelled our return trip through Amsterdam at this hotel and booked another hotel. Perhaps the hotel will be better when the renovations are finished, but there should be assistance with luggage up the steep stairs for seniors,

You are in the main area for alot of activities within good commuting distance.rooms are decent size with nice working AC/heating unit. All the staff were so lovely, very accommodating and made me feel at home during my stay. Definitely recommend coming here as it’s right in the central. It does get abit noisy at night due to location but earplugs are fine (you can buy some from the reception). Thanks again for a great stay :)

Adorable hotel, it does not have amenities, however it’s clean, safe, VERY convenient for food/shopping and the main train station. Staff was wonderful, rooms are small, but then the building is old/historical. There is no elevator, this is manageable. Didn’t experience any noise issues. I would definitely stay at the hotel again.

Upon arrival the area inside had a strong odor. When we opened the bottom door to go up to the unit, there were no lights on. Needed to use phone flashlight to make it up the stairs. The unit itself also had a sting odor. The lock is opened by an app - however the key hole is broken and you can see through the lock. We did not stay as we felt very unsafe here. Would not recommend this unit.

We stayed up several flights of steep stairs, room 54. If you are fat and out of shape or have mobility issues I would look elsewhere. It didn’t not bother my friend or I. Small rooms but close to a lot and due to our rooms position it was quiet.

I think i was somehow upgraded, because i paid for single room but ended up in a triple. Anyway, it was great - big, clean, right on the street with a cool view but not so noisy. Really good for the price and area. I'd love to stay in this room again.

I stayed in the second building wich is just footsteps from the main building where reception is (not an issue at all). Room 503 is awesome, sleeps three (single beds) with plenty of room. This room even has a balcony that makes the dam square experience even more fun!

The hotel is in a great area if you want to really absorb Amsterdam. Super close to nightlife, and not a bad walk to the museums (25 minutes). Two things to know ahead of time:

1. Uber is complicated in that area because the roads are so tiny. Uber will \"assign\" your pick-up spot, which can be difficult to find (a little stressful).

2. The stairs in the hotel are no joke, and there is no elevator. I was on the 4th floor and hated having to go back to the room. Try to get a room on the lower floors.

Perfect location for anyone who wants convenience, right in the middle of everything. 10/15 min walk from central station, tram stops very close. All other reviews are right about the stairs, quite steep, but not an issue for us. No lift available. Beds very comfy, if you have the windows open it can be quite loud. Would definitely stay again.

Pictures don’t justify the reality. No elevators. If you have a large suitcase climbing steep and narrow stairs to the 3rd level is a nightmare. Rooms are extra small and toilet/bathroom is the smallest one can ever imagine. Sitting on the toilet you will bang your knees on wall in from if you are 5’ 9” or taller ! Also , the street below has loud noise of party goers ALL NIGHT LONG. Couldn’t sleep at all. Worst property ever!

It is an old building so be prepared to carry your luggage up many narrow flights of stairs depending on which level your room is on. It is also in the touristy area and food options open late so you will hear the liveliness of the people on the street while falling asleep. I was tired from walking everyday exploring so it didn’t bother me. I fell asleep quickly. All that aside, the hotel staff are friendly, the hotel is very conveniently located and walkable to many things. I would consider staying here again next time I’m in Amsterdam. Love the city and the friendly people!

City center and great for walking. Sadly very crowded tourist area, which gets very noisy at night and weekends. Stairs extremely steep and lots of them for most of the rooms - not recommended for older or anyone with access issues. Noisy rooms and you can hear everything from neighbours, including parties. Rooms clean and functional - good value for the price. They smell like cigarette smoke, despite the hotel being non-smoking? Note, there is a local tax payable (12 euros per night per room) directly to the hotel on check-in.
The staff are excellent and responsive, probably the highlight, along with the location.

The location of this property is great. We stayed weds-sat. It got extremely noisy Friday evening. The walls are paper thin so we could hear next doors party and we requested extra towels just to stuff behind our door because any noise is the hallway was as if they were in our room. The beds are VERY soft and small. The bathrooms are tiny and everything gets soaked when you have a shower. Positives: the hair dryer was good. There's a safe. Our TV was logged in to Netflix and Disney . Location is super convenient.

This hotel is in a great location! The rooms are small but clean. Our room was on the fourth floor which was a little bit of a lung buster. The front desk worker was kind enough to carry the women in our group’s luggage up to the room. We had everything we needed for our stay and staff was very friendly. Location is perfect, thats it though. If you go here ask for a lower floor as we was on the 4th floor and the stairs are a killer ( no lift either) its boiling hot and no air con. Was awakon at 7am both mornings woth workmen stood right outside my window hammering on scaffolding. Saw a mouse on the 3rd floor, reported it to reception who said, \" this is amsterdam, they are everywhere\" just pay the extra and stay somewhere nicer

There's no air con so on a hot night with the window open it's very noisy. The single room I staying in was very small. There's no dining so it's just a room. So if you need somewhere to just crash out and shower then it's fine.

The location is fantastic but the hotel was meh. Our room was on the top floor and had no a/c. It was so incredibly hot and uncomfortable.

Hotel is in a great position being 2 mins from De Wallen and 15 mins from Anne Frank House . Many restaurants and bars directly outside hotel and excellent bakery next door but this does mean noise well into the night and early in morning as street cleaning done . Hotel itself is over 100 years old and is dated with no elevator and economy plus room was adequate size but don`t expect large room . TV channels were hit and miss with reception but overall a reasonably priced , very well situated hotel .

The room was very clean and comfortable. The location was amazing - close to good eats and lots of Amsterdam's sites. Only a 10 minute walk to the train station. The staff were also very helpful.

The only drawback was the stairs which were very steep. We were on the 4th floor and it was a bit of a challenge getting our luggage up to the room.

This property was under construction and the entire outside was under plastic with scaffolding. It was on top of a store that played very loud music until 11:00 pm at night which vibrated the floor of the room. It was a complete bait and switch from the reviews and pictures on the site to what it was in reality.

Excellent location, rooms were small but clean and comfortable, staff were helpful and friendly.
However, it is very noisy. I was awoken multiple times each night by people shouting in the streets, room doors banging very loudly, and people talking/walking up and down the stairs - all noises echo very badly and there’s no sound proofing to the rooms whatsoever which is unfortunate given it’s on a Main Street and obviously a very busy hotel. I wouldn’t stay again due to the sheer fact sleep was near impossible however everything else was good

Stayed in a triple room, amazing location didnt need a travel card because all the attractions were walking distance and we were right in the middle of shops, food is literally on your doorstep open until 2/3am. Nice staff and room/bathroom and good price. Only downstairs is there’s no lift so we had to lug suitcases up a very narrow spiralling flight of stairs.

A lovely hotel with ectremely comfy beds. Unforutnately the bathroom was a little impractical because of its size (may be to do with how the building has been built). My only quibble is that we had paid extra for breakfast and when we were arrived was told that breakfast wasnt available unless we walked over to the sister site. This isnr advertised anywhere on the booking and i dont think its an issue with the kitchen in our hotel, just that it doesnt have the space/facilities. We didnt end up going as we were up and about early and added the continental breakfast for convenience and to avoid walking aroind looking for somewhere to eat. Despite this, i would return... just not buy the breakfast!

The hotel is just a door on Dam Strasse and can be missed. Room was small. However, the hotel is in a great position, room clean and warm and staff very helpful. Enjoyed our stay.

Upon arrival, the receptionist greeted us with smile & charm. She was very friendly & helpful. We managed to get checked in & settled early because they got the room done. They are pretty efficient with getting the rooms cleaned as quickly as possible but still making it presentable. The room was a good size with plenty of space to move freely. The only issue we had was that the room had some damp patches
