The hotel is in a great location, however the hotel is very average at best.
We booked a superior deluxe room for 3 nights and there was nothing deluxe about it.
We checked in late of an evening so was tired and went straight to the room and bed. The room was on the 5th floor which was the atic with sloping roof trusses an very small. The following morning I went to reception to ask if I was in the correct room as it was clean but basic at best and they said I was. I asked if it was possible to upgrade to a better room and they said they were all the same apart from the rooms below being 4m2 bigger.
After this conversation I thought we were paying for the location and sometimes rooms in the cities can be on the small side.
Later that day my relatives checked into the hotel and both there rooms were over twice the side to our come with duel aspect windows and the type of room we were expecting.
At this stage now was annoyed as the staff told me and my wife a complete pack of lies and just couldn’t be bothered to move us into another room.
After me complaining on trip advisor a member of staff moved us for the last night to a better room.
My advice is there are better hotel la to stay at for your money.

I expected a small room, but this was rough. The mattress slides off, 1 small pillow and 1 towel, and the bedding had an odd smell. Water drips from the ceiling when you shower (the shower is one you would find in an RV.
The staff was friendly and sweet, it was in a great location. The buffet breakfast was not great- skip it for sure. Better options next to you.

The Red Lion is extremely centra to all the City attractions of Amsterdam. The bathroom is \"snug\" but adequate.
Staff were helpful and attentive.
Overall, I'd recommend this hotel for your visit to Amsterdam.

Great location and clean quiet room apart from the shower which is impossible to take a shower without flooding part of the bathroom floor. There’s no ledge to keep the water contained and the shower is small with only a curtain. I didn’t enjoy mopping up. The rest of the room was fine, with handy fridge and coffee maker. Bottled water would be a plus, but there’s a convenience store a couple of doors down. I never got to eat in the restaurant but it looked very nice. You can walk to the train station to get to the airport, no problem!

Nice hotel for short stay

The hotel is good condition, suitable for both summer and winter stay. Perfect location for tourists like us. Accessible to all restaurants and stations (train, tram, metro & busses). It would have been perfect apart from 1 incident that we feel belittled by one of hotel staff. Her condescending tone sought to infantilise us when asking for some help and yet she reversed the situation that we are the one who is disrespectful and raising our voice on her. I didn’t raise a complaint to manager as we don’t want to ruin our day.
Another issue that we want to point out are the beds. The beds are single that been put together to make it a double/king size bed, its not a problem if they can put something to keep it tie in together.

I was shocked at how small the shower was. It was so small I kept bumping into the shampoo and soup holder. The shower curtain also blows in which gave me the ick. The bathroom and shower could be cleaner, there was some mold in different corners. But overall, the room was fine and bed was comfortable.

It's in Damrak, a rough neighborhood. Lots of historical buildings around but crowded and dirty. We will not stay in this area again the hotel itself was more modern, clean, and welcoming. Good restaurant, nice rooms but strange bath setup. A separate toilet room, the shower spills out to the bath floor, no curtains. The bathtub was nice. We did take advantage of it.

Great hotel, but description of rooms misleading

The hotel and room was lovely, modern “, spacious and clean. The staff were helpful and the location was perfect.
We had a superior room with “city view”. To call a view of another building, and rooftops with scaffolding a city view is wrong, so I would suggest the description of some rooms are amended.
The photographs of said rooms are misleading as it made me think that I would be at the front of the hotel, with a balcony. We were actually at the side of the hotel, with no balcony.
We weren’t at the hotel much, so it didn’t spoil it, but I did feel slightly disappointed as I was excited for a nice view.
When I called reception, the lady apologised and said there was nothing she could do as the other rooms were fully booked.

Amazing location. Sheets were not clean when we first checked in but staff was quick to replace all the linen. We were given two twin beds that were pushed together, however they came apart very easily when you accidentally turned into the gap. Staff said they would place a pad on top but that didn’t end up happening. Working AC. Construction is still ongoing but did not bother us. Staff was very approachable. Overall was still a good stay. The location made up for all the inconveniences.

Only downside building work inside hotel and the workmen started before 7am, talking loudly and banging and drilling....could have waited till 8am....but thats only downside.

We took this hotel mostly for convenience and good price. But with that comes some sacrifice like a very tiny bathroom and noise from workers and the street. But the location is great for walking from the train station and very accessible to many bars and restaurants. The breakfast was good and the restaurant was very comfortable where they served the breakfast. The staff was pleasant and friendly. The hotel needs a facelift but the prices reflect some of the comments I’ve made.

The room was spacious and very clean—perfect for a solo traveler. The hotel is centrally located, right in the heart of the tourist area, which is convenient if you want to be close to the action (though it may not suit those seeking a quieter atmosphere).

Unfortunately, my stay was quite noisy. Construction outside the window began as early as 7 AM, and the walls seemed quite thin—you could hear neighboring doors opening and closing, phone alarms from adjacent rooms, and other sounds throughout the night.

Hotel mornings was the worst!!!

The hotel itself was very nice, and the staff were helpful throughout our stay. However, I’m giving a lower rating because our experience was significantly impacted by early morning construction noise. Out of the three days we stayed, two were disrupted by loud construction starting as early as 7:00 AM. I raised the issue with the manager, but was told there was nothing they could do. Even starting at 10:00 AM would have allowed us a few extra hours of much-needed rest.

This trip was meant to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, and unfortunately, being woken up so early each morning really took away from the experience. To make matters worse, we had traveled from New York and were already dealing with a six-hour time difference. It just wasn’t the relaxing getaway we had hoped for.

I was paying good money for the smallest room I've ever seen in my entire travel history - NOT a single desk, so I had to work with my laptop on a pillow in bed, the bed was not only too small but uncomfortable, there was only 1plug in the whole room, but thanks to myself I had an extension with me. I must say it was the worst hotel I ever stayed in, never ever again. I would never recommend this fxxking hotel to anyone and I meant it!!!

We checked into our room only to find it extremely hot with no working air conditioning. We were unable to open our window because we faced a courtyard which was an ongoing worksite to with dust and debris everywhere. The staff did not warn us about the broken air conditioning before check in, then told us there was nothing they could do to help us afterwards since we already checked in.

We were not aware when we booked that the property was under construction which meant the facade was covered and the view from the room was blocked. Construction noise started at 7:30 every morning, disrupting our sleep.

Other than that, the stay was great. The room was clean and the staff were very helpful. The bathroom was on the smaller side. The location is great with easy access to several tram lines.

The location of the hotel is phenomenal. It's adjacent to Dam square, McDonald's and Albert hijn right next door. Walking proximity to Amsterdam centraal train station and there are trams right outside the front door to take you to almost anyplace you want to go. The room is super clean. The bed is extremely comfortable BUT... The pillows were terrible, hard as rocks. Room is ridiculously small with a king bed, barely any room to move. The shower had no curtain or doors so entire bathroom gets a bit wet when showering. Shout out to Livvy who was fantastic at check-in and Stephanie was great getting us a cab to schipol airport for $60 euros when Uber was 134 euros. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Unfortunately our single night travel layover was hampered by construction on the building facade. Room smelt like rotten eggs and construction worker staging area was directly outside room window, so no views or ability to keep window open. After reporting the smell/ window issue, front desk staff were sympathetic but no other room could be found so we were offered a reduction in room rate. We left room & stayed out as long as we could. Then hammering started at 0730 next morning, so we left room again, arriving back just in time to check out. Hallways & common areas were in great condition, just our room seemed to be a problem. For $400/nt room, totally unacceptable. Emailed hotel, again some compensation given, paid $250 instead but was in room 4 hrs. Can’t express our disappointment enough. Hoping other guests did not have to endure this as housekeeping & construction firm were to look into issues.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel while visiting Amsterdam. Only issue we had is we asked for a king bed and we received two single beds pushed together. The beds always wanted to separate between us while sleeping.

the main issue was the construction qork going on at the hotel, I would not have booked had I known their were builders in doing work, this should have been made clear when the booking was made we were told on arrival that the work shouldn’t disturb us but it turned out the builders were active from 7am in the corridor right outside our room and were also stating in the rooms above on the 4th floor with shouting and builders boots making a lot of noise from 6am onwards. The room itself wasn’t great as the plug sockets didn’t work

Our double room is ridiculously small. The bathroom door can’t be opened more than 60 degrees, hitting the mattress at that angle. The layout of the bathroom is mysterious. I could sit on the toilet and look down to see the sink basin. In other words, I can wash my face and poo simultaneously. The standing shower space is very restricted. I’m 170 lbs at most and 5’10”. The shower curtain kept sticking to my back. This happened to my wife as well and she’s petite.

We had a shower within a bath which my wife could not access. The shower when I used it flooded the bathroom. The hotel would not change our room we were offered a box to allow my wife to use the shower but it never appeared The hotel said they would inspect the shower had they done so an adjustable spanner was all that was needed to tighten the lower outlet nut or at worse fit a new washer. We were given extra towels to mop the water up!
Expedia should have told us the hotel was a building site at which point I would have chosen another hotel

The hotel is in an excellent position, next to Dam Square and is central to all the major attractions. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the a-la-carte breakfast (as we did not wish to pay for the breakfast buffet on booking) in their lovely restaurant downstairs. The only thing that was disappointing is that we were not told of the renovation works that were ongoing. However we would stay here again (but would just check no works were scheduled before booking!)
