My husband and I stayed at The Craftsman for 3 nights in the Tanner room and had an exceptional stay. It was amazing to look out the windows at the lights reflecting off the canal at night and we didn’t hear our neighbors even once (sometimes a trade off when staying in buildings with so much history). The included breakfast was also fantastic! I am gluten free and they prepared a special little bread basket just for me, so I could enjoy a croissant and bread too, which is not something I’ve ever experienced at a hotel. On our way out, they even gave us a little gift to remember our experience by. All this and a stellar location means it’s the first place I’d look to stay again whenever we make it back to Amsterdam. Highly recommend!

This boutique hotel met or even exceeded my expectations. All members of staff provided high quality customer service and offered solutions when needed. The design led fixtures and fittings are all quality and well thought out. It is important to recognise that this is an old building and therefore we did hear noise from the guests in the room above. The location is excellent and is very quiet overlooking the Singel canal. The architecture of Amsterdam is stunning. The hotel is far enough away from the red light area and most of the awful smell of weed to really enjoy the hundreds of independent shops and restaurants. A very nice hotel which I recommend.

Great experience with a 10/10 for location. You can’t beat it. You are right there in the thick of it with walking to everything. We stayed in the Artists room and I knew ahead of time that, given it has its own door to the street and lots of floor to ceiling windows, it would pick up street and people noise. But that was no big deal as they have ear plugs you can ask for or bring your own. Has a windy small stair case upstairs to the bathroom so just make sure you are fit if you take this room. There is a hand rail I used all the time. I can’t recommend it enough. They also have a cute hang out area where I had a lovely glass of wine when I arrived.

If you are not wanting the usual bland chain style big hotels then the Hotel Craftsmen boutique hotel is a must for your Amsterdam visit. Wonderful hotel built in1652 with different themed rooms. We were in the Cartographer. Due to it being a very old building it has a wonderful steep narrow spiral staircase which adds to the charm. The history timeline is illustrated on the walls of the stairwell which is cool.The rooms and public spaces are wonderfully decorated and the breakfast is simply amazing. The young hip staff…and I mean all of them that we encountered were genuinely friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ensure we were well looked after and we were. The well maintained hotel sits right on the Singel canal with great canal views through the windows with red shutters and is perfectly located to wander aimlessly around to most parts of the city. Stay here for a wonderful experience but as in most of Europe the rooms may be smaller especially head heights however don’t be fazed on this as we would stay here again in a heart beat. You do here a bit of noise from the streets but wouldn’t stop us staying again. Craftsmen thankyou for a charming experience.

Best Stay of our trip!
We stayed in The Brewer room, which had part of an actual original brewery—such a unique and fun touch! The hotel is in an amazing part of Amsterdam, full of charm and character. We had to leave before breakfast, so the staff went above and beyond by packing us a delicious breakfast to-go and delivering it to our room the night before. Their thoughtfulness really made our stay extra special. Out of our entire Amsterdam/Paris vacation, this was by far our favorite place to stay!

Though there was limited space for our luggage in the room, we were having a short stay so it was manageable. The location was great and I liked that it was central but it was still safe and quiet when inside. Just fyi, this property IS in a red lights district. Not the famous downtown red lights district, but the red lights district for locals. Right on the same street, there are windows with women sitting in them and red lights.
Also, some rooms do not have air conditioning. The last concern was that we had a door that went straight to the outside street, and housekeeping left it open after cleaning, leaving our room and stuff open to the public. Luckily, nothing was taken.

Wonderful stay. We had early flight so we were given a to go bag for breakfast. I was accidently given a gluten free breakfast so my bag was changed out for another one. I was very disappointed to find that this bag had no yogurt and the bananas were green Bummer! That's what I would have liked to eaten at 6am. That is my only complaint. That and nights were noisy due to old building noises

I stayed at The Craftsmen for 3 nights during a solo visit to Amsterdam. The Bookbinder room was the perfect space for a solo traveler: compact but with everything I needed, under a traditional beamed ceiling, with windows opening out onto the canal. I felt well cared-for, with little goodies and even a small bottle of complimentary bubbly in the room’s wine fridge. The bathroom had Moulton Brown products.
Breakfast was amazing: coffee, fresh oj, yogurt, fruit, granola, delicious bread selection, warm Dutch poffertjes, and egg (this is normally presented as a boiled egg but after the first day I asked for mine scrambled, and after that they made me incredible scrambled eggs with cheese and tomato each morning). You can have the breakfast either brought to your room or eat in the Gallery room downstairs.
The Craftsmen is in a great location in the Western Canal Ring area, about 10 min. walk to train station, walkable to Anne Frank House and Jordaan, about 5 min. walk to Royal Palace, and 10 mins. to Begijnhof and Red Light District. It’s a 3 min. walk to the Nieuwezijds Kolk tram stop, where the #2 or #12 tram will take you in 10 mins. to the Vondelpark Museums (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk, MoCo). I did that pleasant ride each morning.

Must stay! Clean, good water pressure and comfy beds. You are near all of major sites. The ferry is 10 minute walk to get to the hop on and off buses for kuekenhof. Book ahead of time! It will take you 15 mins to get to this is holland. The breakfast was spectacular and specifically made for you! Short cab ride from the airport or Amsterdam Centraal. Enjoy!

The hotel was immaculate and the staff were so friendly. The amenities were top notch and the room was really comfortable, it had everything I needed and more. The location was central and ideal for a tourist wanting to explore. I came down to breakfast and was met by an array of bread and pastries which I thought looked lovely, I didn’t realise until I was shown to my table that they had laid out a wonderful assortment of treats for me including fresh mini pancakes, fresh fruit, yoghurt, boiled egg, cheese and meat- the coffee was great and I was blown away by the service and attention to detail from the staff. I will be recommending the hotel to anyone visiting and I hope to be back myself in the near future. I wouldn’t want to spoil any surprises for future guests of the hotel but the extra touches went a long way, thank you.

All of the employees were very nice and helpful with any questions I may have had. It was also fantastic having the cafe that I could pop into before hitting the city and grab a latte and bill it to my room, which I did most days! The breakfast was more than I could eat, which was also included in my room rate. I made it into breakfast and lunch a couple of the days I was there. I was a solo female traveler and felt safe at all times, day and night.

So often I have to stay in large hotel chains and coming to The Craftsman is anything but that kind of experience. Firstly, the warm staff are so generous with their time and expertise. We arrived early and they made us comfortable with coffees and a seat in the dining room. The breakfast was ample but simple and was a great start to the day's activities. The hotel is located convenient to nearly everything a first-time visitor could want. As second-time visitors, we also really enjoyed the how convenient things still were. The rooms was unique and comfortable -- designed with such care and attention to detail. Can't wait to come back soon!

Absolutely fantastic from the second I stepped in the door. Staff was next level welcoming, friendly and helpful. Really can't say enough good things about them. They went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. The sumptuous daily breakfast was a highlight of every morning. The water pressure in the shower was the best I've ever experienced in a hotel like this. The hot water was instant and appreciated on chilly February mornings. The room was adorable and quirky in all the best ways. I stayed in the bookbinder (advertised as a single traveler, \"tiny\" room), and while it was definitely a smaller space, it was set up in such a way that I never felt cramped or confined. Absolutely would (and will) stay here again.

This is such a unique property and I ended up just really loving it. I originally booked a two night stay but extended it to four, after discovering that luckily my room was available for the next nights. (Each room is unique. I was in the Cartographer Room, with its map theme and decorations. To be sure, there are things to be aware of: I am 6 ft 1, probably the maximum height for my room, as the beams from the 17th century ceiling are low (there were two places I needed to duck under). The ancient stairway is super narrow and a bit claustrophic. There is an elevator, but it is coffin-sized. I put my luggage in it, but there was no way I was getting in it myself. All that said, the opportunity to stay in such a historic building with amazing canal views and unique style and decor just made it a joy to stay here. My room had a bear claw tub in a small elevated area -- very relaxing. The breakfast they serve (included with room price) is ample and tasty. You can enjoy it in room or in a little eating area overlooking the canal. I really loved staying at the Craftsman. It is truly a unique and cozy experience.
