Excellent location - metro/trams 2 min walk away but really not needed if you like walking. Reception opentil 12 midnight and staff very friendly and helpful. Shower lovely and hot. Beds comfy and rooms cleaned daily with clean towels. Hairdryer good. Kettke in room butno tea/coffee supplied so take your own.

I stayed here for a last-minute, budget-friendly holiday, and it was a great choice! I had some doubts after reading mixed reviews, but everything turned out better than expected.

The location is excellent – just a short walk to shops and tourist spots. I highly recommend using the metro to and from Central Station; it’s super easy and much cheaper. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable. The only minor issues were the thin walls (I could hear the neighbours, but they were fine) and the water taking a bit longer to heat up late at night – but no big deal. Stairs are a given with Amsterdam too so I didn't mind walking up the stairs.

One of the highlights of my experience was meeting Jasmine, a staff member I spoke with towards the end of my stay. I didn’t interact much with anyone throughout my solo trip but our brief conversation left a lasting impression. She shared her experiences of living and studying in Amsterdam, and it was such an insightful chat. It truly made my get away complete. Wishing Jasmine all the best in her future endeavors – she’s truly a gem!

For the price, it’s an excellent place to stay, and I’d recommend it for anyone looking for a budget-friendly option in a prime location.

Good location in a building with character

It’s a great location. Walking distance to sites and a short walk to a bus tour stop, but the area is quiet and less crowded. It’s an old building and the rooms reflect that but they were clean and upgraded as much as possible. No elevator! And the stairs are old, spiral and narrow. We enjoyed the courtyard garden at the end of the day.

As a family of 4 I booked the 4 single beds. But beware, these beds are more narrow than North American twin beds. My youngest fell off twice and I even fell off one night while sleeping!

Not worth it

If you choose this place, I’m betting you’re like me in that it’s one of the few places in central Amsterdam that goes for under $200 a night. Just take advantage of the excellent public transit and avoid it. The front desk is not manned at night, which had me at the mercy of a loud group surrounding me on the fourth floor that was carrying on well after 2 am the whole time I was there, slamming the doors constantly. Had to pay over 50 Euros in local tax on check-in, which further defeats any delusion this is a “value” choice. Shower was unworkable. And while local building culture is such I understand the lack of an elevator, the extremely narrow stair treads and sharply curved staircases are a warning to anyone over 40 with luggage.

A good location

The hotel is in a good location opposite the Hermitage Museum. You have free access to the gardens and coffee shop in the garden, which was lovely as we had sunny weather. We were able to walk to the flower market and plenty of bars and restaurants. You are just a 5 minute walk away from the metro, 2 stops from Central Station. The tram was a longer walk because renovations were being carried out on the bridge. We, 3 friends had the triple room on the second floor overlooking the canal and Museum. It was just a base for us, to explore the Museums, it was clean and reasonably spacious. The shower room was a bit snug but no problem for us. I would recommend this hotel if you don't have mobility problems, there is no lift and with all 16th century properties in Amsterdam the staircase is steep and quite narrow. All in all, for us it was perfect, we would stay here again.

Very overpriced for what you get. Rooms rather run down, blinds were broken when we arrived. No cups, milk or tea bags in room despite there being a kettle. Mattresses hard and prone to sliding off bed. Pillows lumpy. Often very noisy at night from other guests. The only good thing I can say about this accommodation is the location. A 10 minute walk to the red light district and Rembrandtplein it’s very conveniently located. I wouldn’t stay here again most likely unless no other choice.

The room wasn’t cleaned for our arrival. It was still messy from the previous occupants. We were told to move to another hotel or wait a few hours for it to be cleaned. We were only staying for a few days so we didn’t have the time to waste moving round several hotels so we had to settle for the next one. Because we accepted this dark tiny room In another hotel they are refusing us any compensation which I think is out of order. Don’t recommend and won’t stay here or the ITC Hotel again.

I liked that it was in a classice Dutch canal house. Was close to a metro station and area was safe. What i didnt like was the fact that there were things that needed to be fixed. Cracks in the walls, bathroom toles missing, a window that had a gap at the bottom so small bugs and rain could get in. I believe there also might of been black mold in the shower. On the grout, there were black marks scattered about.

Great location. Room not much bigger than a large walk-in closet. No amenities to speak of. Only one wall outlet and it was on the wall to connect the tv and a small ledge to try and charge electronics. Cramped shower, miniature sink that was difficult to access. No air conditioning and the room was noisy being adjacent to the street.
I stayed for approximately 12 hours out of a 4 day booking. Requested a refund for at least one day but front desk refused. Would not recommend unless it’s a dire necessity to have quick room for a short nap and a quick shower.

A ways away from the train station, but close to nearby transport. Close enough to walk to numerous things like the National Theater, Anne Frank House, Cheese Museum, etc. Narrow hall and steep stairs as expected of Amsterdam hotels, no elevator. Room was clean but had tiny flaws which don't really matter. Our room was next to the stairs and we did hear some footsteps at times. We happened to be here on the last portion of our Europe trip during the COVID-19 shutdown of all sit down restaurants and a number of stores in Amsterdam. Hotel was more than willing to help us make sure we were able to find things to do that were still open and make sure we could find food as well. Great hotel breakfast similar to hostel style, lots of options, best breakfast of our four hotels. I'd stay here again 100% due to the staff handling everything during the trying times.

Amazing location walking distance to everything, also extremely clean room and fresh sheets and towels every day. Was an awful lot of stairs which we didn’t mind but would take into consideration depending on your stature when booking. Also said we had a private bathroom when booking which we technically did but it was across the hall from our room so we had to fully dress when going to and from the shower or toilet, slightly annoying but wasn’t the worst. Overall great stay would recommend!

Seems to me like this hotel is an undiscovered gem. While staying on the 3rd floor was a bit of a nightmare (3 flights of REALLY steep stairs!) the location was brilliant and very convenient for us, and the room was modern and in good condition. The communal area was a nice handy touch, and we enjoyed many hot drinks in there. Hotel seemed quiet as we didn't really see anyone else around. The hotel isn't in the heart of all Amsterdam nightlife, but personally we always enjoyed the tranquil nighttime walks back and the ability to escape the hustle and bustle if needed. Overall a very good stay, and would love to come back (if we were on a lower floor!)

GREAT PLACE TO STOP FOR KINGS WEEKEND - RECCOMEND

Stayed for Kings Day Weekend - Great location. 10 Minute walk to red light district and about the same to Dam Square. Really busy canal right outside the hotel and lots of places to eat and drink within a 5 minute walk. A Spar shop just around the corner which was convenient. The only thing we would criticize about the hotel is how thin the walls are. We could hear people in the room next door every morning and night when they were getting showered and sorted etc.

Bad bathroom in a single

Had a small single room for a few days. The room itself was fine. It could've used better access to power as the only plug was on the wall, next to the tv, but I asked for an extension cord and that helped. But most notably the bathroom was especially cramped and badly designed--I've been in many small hotel bathrooms in my life, but this one was the worst with little space to maneuver. While sitting on the toilet, my knees touched the shower doors (when they were closed) and the toilet was basically where you'd stand to normally use the sink. I'd be more forgiving about the discomfort if the room rate was better, but at the price I paid, I expected much better...

My only real complaint was the difficulty of climbing the stairs all the way to my room on the 5th floor. I know having no elevator is common in old buildings but it became a little bit of a pain.

Great location with easy access to the city center but not too busy and crazy! Dining area was neat and accessible to guests. Rooms are very big but it’s Amsterdam so I wasn’t expecting much bigger. Floors were a bit dirty and dusty, especially under the beds. The staff at the front desk were really friendly and helpful, especially the Dutch/Moroccan lady (sorry I can’t remmeber your name!:)

Takes advantage of travelers

I made a reservation at this hotel through Travelocity. The Hotel Hermitage then contacted me directly to tell me that my credit card could not be used because it would expire before our stay. I gave them another card and they told me that the charge would not go through. I called the hotel and the person I spoke to said that they would not hold my room because the credit card wouldn't go through. So I stayed at the Marriott, and had no trouble holding a room on my card there. The day I left Amsterdam the hotel Hermitage charged my card for the stay. After endless emails and calls they would never refund the money, all because Travelocity never sent me a cancellation confirmation. Basically this hotel stole $500.00 from my family. Travelers beware!

The hotel shuttle service to the airport offered was actually more than what they list. I would advice finding a different means of transport. As well the walls were paper thin and you could hear every conversation within your floor. The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions we had regarding the city.

We had informed the staff that we might reach around 12 noon days in advance I was travelling with my parents to amsterdam . Upon arrival they said they need an hour to get the room ready so we went out for lunch, after hour and half once we got back to the hotel we found out the room was still not ready, waited another hour. Staff ( especially the Asian couple on the reception) was one of the most rudest people I have come across didn’t even bother to give us an answer. Room are dirty the mattress kept falling off the bed, wallpaper are stingy and stained and don’t even get me started on the tiny washroom and stairs

Staff was great and so the location the only downside is that they do not have an elevator. My room was on the 5th floor and the stars have very narrow steps, nevertheless the staff was kind enough to bring our luggage up to our room. But if you have any type of disability, back problems etc. I will not recommend it. I have back problems and my daughter have hypermobility so it was kind of harsh to get to our room.

Felt that for the price we paid it should have been nicer. It was hot and cramped, but clean and the staff were polite and helpful nonetheless. More of a hostel than a hotel really. Didn’t get much sleep as the walls were thin and the people in the room were up all night banging doors, and there was no air conditioning. Breakfast was in a tiny room so if you arrived at the same time as another guest you couldn’t help yourself until they had finished. Close enough to all amenities. All in all clean, does the job, but if you want any kind of luxury give this one a miss.

Great location, rooms itself is marginal. Hotel staff is not rude but not overly friendly. There are no laundry services (despite the listing indicating it does), no air conditioning and limited privacy. Bed is very uncomfortable, but aesthetically the room is pleasing. Breakfast is about 7 euro each and consists of warm meat, cheese, and breads, I would advise skipping it.

Hotel room was very small for the price paid. Literally had to have legs hanging out into main bedroom to use the toilet.
Staff appeared very disinterested and more task focused at checkin checkout. Some of the carpet in the main hall way was missing or looked tatty.
Overall though, we needed a room and a bed for the night. Served its purpose but not to a standard worth £180

Sleeping on the Heater Control

Though the rooms were small, they were clean and decorated nicely. HOWEVER, the room my group was given (3 twin beds) had two beds pushed up against a wall heater. To top that, my bed had a pillow sitting directly on top of the heater knob! To sleep, my head would be on top of the dial controlling the wall heater! Does this sound safe, appropriate, or a good idea? NO! When brought up to management, they said no one has complained before, and they did not change our room for two nights. This room, specifically, should be taken off the market or completely rearranged to address the safety issue! No outreach or refund was given!!!

The location of the hotel was quite good but that was about it. The room was the tiniest room I’ve ever stayed in. There was no trim for us to put our bags we had to put them in the wardrobe. The bed sheets didn’t fit the bed, the wall paper was dirty and stained. I’m only 5ft 7 and I couldn’t sit on the toilet my knees were touching the wall. I had to sit sideways on the toilet and my bf who is 6ft had to use the toilet while we were out it was ridiculous. The breakfast was not worth €7.50. I wouldn’t stay here if you plan to be in the room for any amount of time other than sleeping

Pretty good unless you don't do stairs.

If you're not used to stairs, try not to get a room on an upper floor. I'm told a lot of buildings in Amsterdam have narrow, winding stairs. However, some of the steps were quite poor and very difficult to get up (especially the first two flights of stairs). The washroom was tiny, but manageable. The bed was good, but the pillows were inadequate. Be sure to ask for extra pillows!

Overall, the area was great. Metro and trams were within a 5 minute walk, great food within a 10 minute walk. The worst part was really the stairs and the condition of the staircases to accommodate a normal person (we heard lots of guests through our door complaining about the stairs).

Walls as thin as paper

Walls are paper thin, so if you're wanting to sleep - I wouldn't recommend booking here. No smoking hotel, but halls stick of smoke, clearly it's a policy that is not enforced.
Shower is tiny and toilet more or less touches the wall. At least it was a bed... shocking price for what they offer.

Dated hotel. Dingy and desperately needs updating. We were in a twin room at the very top of hotel. No lift and narrow staircase. Room tiny. Would not stay there again

Good hotel for Amsterdam standards

Great Little hotel like you would expect for Amsterdam. Very friendly and helpful reception. Location is very close to center of Amsterdam but still away from all the noice. Small issue with WIFI in the room.

Good for the price

4 friends and myself stayed there in a family room for 2 nights, it was surprisingly spacious. The room was clean and had free wifi. The bathroom was generous size and clean. Only downside was that in the whole room there was only 1 power socket. The staff were really helpful and had plenty of suggestions for what to do and where to eat. For the price that we paid we really enjoyed this hotel.

Hotel is very good location

I read previous reviews about steep stairs. I telephoned to say due to a foot operation and bad hips I would not be able to climb the stairs. He said ok he put me lower floor! When I arrived My room was on the 5th floor. I complained but they said they had no record and did not move me! I was very upset and at the end of stay in pain !

Very far from coffeeshops

Small rooms and toilet isn't on suite so you have to walk around past other people's rooms to use toilet. The stairs are a hazard themselves and so long to walk up , wouldn't recommend if you have heavy luggage they have no lift your just going to break your back. You can't smoke in room ( your in Amsterdam where weed is legal ) I don't get it? Get high forget these bump hotels find yourself a nice one.

Traditional Amsterdam

Traditional narrow building with small room and bathroom. The canal-front view was cute. Great staff, friendly and helpful, no lift, but the young woman at the desk carried my heaviest bag up 2 floors which was very much appreciated. Just don't stay Saturday night if you want sleep - it's comfortable but there was a lot of noise from both inside and outside the hotel.

Nice area, tucked away along a quiet canal

I booked the room for 2 people and we ended up in a room that was barely big enough for one, although our window did face a smaller canal and had a nice view. Be sure and read the story about the story of that canal. There is a sign about it near one end. Interesting.
Hotel is in a nice location near the Amstel canal and very quiet. You can pretty much walk to all the major sights and museums.
