The room was tiny. The mattress was the size of a full mattress but that was split in the middle. The bed was broken and when you laid in it you rolled into the center where the mattress was split. I called and it was never address. No room service was provided either

The worst experience we’ve ever had with a hotel. We had a death in the family and were unable to make our stay. We asked the hotel if we can reschedule into end of 2026 and they refused to reschedule and/or provide us with our money or credit. Horrible customer service. Would not recommend.

Firstly it wasn’t disclosed that the hotel was under construction. Ordered 2 twin beds, had to physically separate the beds ourselves, very tight space in room. Bathroom was tiny and shower very small and dark fan didn’t work, beds small , more like college dorm beds.The worse part was on our last night we saw cockroaches in room, killed one waking up wall, gross, it was latte after midnight when we returned to room , cockroaches, not a comfortable night.Did mention at check out, they were sorry. We were given a room where the shower would not drain, so essentially the water would overflow within 3 minutes. We asked the reception to give us another room, at first he rudely said he couldn't and that they were sold booked solid. I asked him to come see the issue, he refused 3 times and said there was nothing he could do even if he looked at it. Finally, he came up to see the issue, when he entered the room, again, he very rudely asked what can he do about it, he is not a plumber. We asked him to find a maintenance or plumber to come fix it, he said that's not possible. He was very agitated the entire time, almost looked like he wanted to start a fight with us when both of us were calmly just trying to find a solution. He offered to give us more towels to put on the floor if it overflows, at which point we said sure, but if the downstairs unit starts to leak water, it won't be our problem, and again, he rudely replied saying \"of course it is your problem, because you know that it will overflow\". My coworker and I were seriously shocked. That's when we asked to speak with a manager, and he refused and started to walk away. I followed him to the lobby constantly asking to speak with a manager and he denied me saying he is not going to call his manager. After 5 minutes of back and forth, I went outside and started to contact Hotels.com, which was proven to be useless as well at those hours. Horrible experience, still waiting for Hotels.com to offer a credit for this stay.

I know European hotel rooms are small, but the restroom was soooo tiny. The toilet was right next to the sink. I’m 5’5 and I know anyone taller than that would’ve hated it. Lol the walls are fairly thin, I could hear the family in the room next to me. They weren’t too loud so that wasn’t a big problem. They’re strict with their 3pm check in time and you could only leave your bags there if you happen to get there earlier than check in. The hotel itself looks a little outdated. There was a mix of young people and elderly in the hotel room so that was nice.

I checked in here for a weeks holiday.

Upon my arrival I was allocated my room which was similar to the one advertised on Expedia.

Once I entered I found that my curtains didn’t close properly, and in the evening I was treated to the noise of their industrial washing machines which kept me awake all night.

In the morning I phoned reception to complain, and was told that they have another room available for me and I would need to leave my current room, leave my luggage with reception and return in an hour.

Once I get back after more than an hour’s wait, I’m told the room still isn’t ready, and I’ll need to wait another hour… I can safely say this ruined my holiday plans for that day.

I wait, and once I’m given my new room key, I find it doesn’t work, so return to reception yet again for a replacement key.

The new room was a massive downgrade on what I was led to believe I would be getting on Expedia.

The walls were marked, and the carpets were covered in black stains.

The air conditioning was broken, and a stand alone fan was left for me instead, however all this done was circulate hot hair around the small room.

The bathroom was much smaller and the sink blocked, it took forever to drain.

I don’t think the bed sheets were changed, just made tidy each day upon request.

I made complaints to Expedia who passed these on to the management of the hotel.

Management denied all of my claims despite me providing detailed video evidence of everything wrong in the room.

Very nice place. We were there during a heat wave and there is no air conditioning in the rooms. It was just too hot. However, it’s a good budget option within an easy walk to the downtown area and the tram is right out front.

We found the hotel room was overpriced for the quality and style of room. The hotel and room showed signs of wear and tear and our bed base was ripped. We requested a room for two auldets and one child and ended up with two double bed that didn't fit in the room and were touching ends and we couldn't walk around the bed to get to the windows or the handing rails. we had to craw over the beds. No aircondiditon so we had to seep with the wines open and we could hear the venting pitch along the life shaft running all day and night and the bathroom made noise all night after use. the tolitioest provided was a hand

We stayed for 4 nights, with breakfast included.
Hotel area of town is excellent, 25 walking minutes from the core center, and this address is part of central Amsterdam anyway. Tram/street car near by- arrives in Amsterdam Centre within 5 minutes.
Hotel was smelling great and it looked neat, clean and well kept.
Our room was horribly small. Indescribably small - suffocating for two people. Also the hangers and shelves were ridiculously arranged- one could not decide what to put where.
Bathroom sink was good if you are a small bird and not a human.
Shower was good with plenty of hot water.
Needless to say that the bathroom was miniature.
There was an issue with a leaking toilet - once we complained it was fixed very fast.
There are no air conditioners in this hotel, to our knowledge. Due to mild air temps in Amsterdam, there was no need for one, but be aware!
Breakfast area was beautiful. Food was totally ok and choices were good- not too much, not too little. Also vegan options too.

The staff were friendly and smiling and the entrance and reception area were lovely. WiFi worked great no issues. Everything was within walking distance (30 mins max) which was helpful. Our TV was broken and the hairdryer fell apart when I picked it up. The room itself was smaller than expected for the price we paid, bathroom tiny and smelt damp (no window or extractor in there, toilet was practically under the sink). The sheets weren’t cleaned on the one occasion the room was cleaned (they clean every 3 days here unless asked other wise for the environment?) and also didn’t change our towels. I’m honestly not really sure what was actually done when they ‘cleaned’ other than making the bed. Overall the stay was fine but the room and facilities were disappointing.

While the property itself wasn’t bad. There was one employee who seemed flat out disinterested in working.

In all my life I have not written a bad review but when an employee in hospitality consistently makes rude comments and rolls her eyes at you when you ask for water or towels, I have to say something.

It’s unfortunate that one individual being inhospitable can really impact my view of a hotel.

We had everything we needed. The bed was a king and very comfortable. They cleaned the room daily which they don’t do in the states anymore. They were incredibly friendly and helpful at check-in. The buffet breakfast offered was reasonably priced, had a huge selection of food and everything was incredibly tasty. My only comments would be that the bathroom needs more light and the towels could be of higher quality. But that’s really small stuff! All in all, loved it. And the location was perfect. Out of the crazy but near a tram and easy to get anywhere we wanted to go.

Lovely place. Staff are very friendly and eager to help. The room is small ans so is the bathroom but this is an authentic European house, older than us! It has been remodeled to hotel rooms. There's no a/c but there is a fan. I puposefully selected this hotel to experience the preple, the culture and how they live. There is so much to see and do. The tram is very close and takes you to places to shop or eat or to see attractions. There is a park next door where you can hear the birds. I highly recommend this hotel.

The double room is no bigger than a closet. Everything is so small, and no place to put out a roller bag suitcase, the shower curtain hits you, and if your 5’ tall, you can’t see the bathroom mirrors.

I would recommend paying the $25 extra per night for a Superior King room, which is a normal good sized room. I stayed in the superior room with a friend the night before our husbands arrived. Thinking the $25/less room would also be nice, I said we could take it, I was sorely mistaken and disappointed.

Also there were a few of the staff that were so rude, were not helpful and never smiled.

If you’re thinking of renting a bike at the hotel, make sure to do it early, as they only have 10! The other closest places are at least a 10 minute walk away.

The area is great, and if you stay in the Superior King room you’ll be great.

Our check-in was fantastic - we hadn't realised there wasn't step-free access to the hotel and the man on the Reception Desk on the morning of Monday 5 May 2025 was so helpful and carried all our luggage into the hotel for us, which we really appreciated.
Our room was a good size - only two hangers in the wardrobe though, and very little storage available so we lived out of our suitcase for the three days we were at the hotel.
The room could have done with better lighting.
The hotel runs a 'green' system - only cleaning every three days, unless you specifically ask. For the amount we were charged, it should have been cleaned every day without having to ask!
Great location for visiting The Holocaust Museum, Hollandsche Schouwburg and easy access to the Holocaust Memorial of Names, Jewish Museum and Portuguese Synagogue and walking to the centre of Amsterdam. The tram stop is right by the hotel too.

Just got back from a 3 night stay at this hotel, and had a lovely time! The staff were great, nothing was too much trouble and they were really friendly and helpful. They have a small shopping essentials area in the lobby where you can buy toiletries and snacks which was very helpful! Few things to note - there was a bit of mould on the windowsills, curtains and showers, so the room could do with updating, however the rest of the room was clean and well equipped. On our last night our shower drain blocked and our shower leaked out into the room and soaked the carpet, the door to the shower also did not shut which I think didn’t help. However, we notified the staff and they were very helpful and even offered to put us in another room for the night. We had breakfast one morning out of 3 and it was ok, a lot of choice for cereals and pastries but not much variety for hot food. However, the facilities and decor were very modern. The location is perfect. Not far from the centre which is easily accessed by the number 14 tram and is directly opposite the zoo which was fantastic. Overall was a pleasant stay, great value for money and would stay here again. Thank you!

Hotel is pretty modern, reception staff on checking, polite. Room was ready early but not sure if it was a superior king, we booked, room was small, with a unnecessary tatty floor lamp, that took up valuable space. Room and bathroom were dusty and a bit grubby, bathroom smelt of sewerage the whole time we were there, on our last day we came back to an unmade bed and the water or coffee had nit been replenished. Apart from the size of the room the worst part was the bed, was very uncomfortable, it was just what seemed like 2 foam mattress sofa beds put together, with a 2\" topper, there was nothing to keep the beds together so they kept moving apart. The aircon didnt seem to work or be very strong, during our whole stay we had to have the window open, whereby there was only an inch gap. We would not stay againe or recommend this hotel.

Nice hotel in a great location. 10/15 min walk in to the main areas or only 2 mins to a tram stop on which you can get all the way back to Central Station. The rooms were clean and had a comfortable bed and good shower. Only downside was the lack of a bar in the hotel. They are attached to a restaurant however it is definitely more of a restaurant than a bar and we felt in the way while just having a drink - maybe it was just a busy time/evening? You can buy drinks and snacks in the reception but they’re very expensive.

The hotel staff were lovely and accommodating, even letting us check in early. The room whilst only for two of us was very small. You could not sit on the toilet without having to lean a significant amount to not be blocked by the sink next to you. Additionally, the toilet had a leaking problem where the floor became soaked no matter how much we tried to dry it out. Most of all, the slanting mattress was the biggest issue. The double bed we had was in fact two singles pushed together with a double mattress topper. The single mattresses constantly, regardless of effort to keep together, constantly came apart making sleeping very uncomfortable and back aching. Other than these inconveniences the stay was lovely and we had a great time.

Weekend break in Amsterdam

Booked a single room for a two-night weekend stay. The room is small but perfectly comfortable for a solo traveller, and there are plenty of clever little shelves and storage, plus everything you'd expect from a decent hotel (TV, Nespresso machine, even a complimentary bottle of water). I actually really liked it.

Bathroom was also small and perhaps just a little too much so, with not much space to dry after shower etc. But again it did the job; walk-in shower with curtain, hairdryer, couple of shelves and two hooks on the door.

Staff were very friendly on check-in and check-out. I didn't have breakfast so can't comment (only because I was meeting friends elsewhere for breakfast). Apparently they do bike hire too but again I didn't use it.

Location was about 20 mins walk from the centre, Centraal station etc, and a pleasant enough walk day and night.

I would definitely recommend the Lancaster and would stay there again.

Although the hotel had a pretty nice and modern check-in/out system, and staff was friendly, I found it a bit disappointing for a four star.

There were gummies on the floor of the room, and the pillows were dirty inside. The bathroom was terribly small and crowded and the room was so so cold. Even though I was showed how to increase the heating in the room on the second day, it was still so cold over night.

On a brighter side, you can do the check-in online before you arrive, and it’s next to the tram and the zoo. There was a mini-fridge, safe, kettle, hairdryer, etc.

This is a friendly place in a university part of town. Good eateries locally and a really positive feel in the area and close to metro and tram. You can walk into town in 20-30 mins. I stayed for a week for work and found it a friendly place.
