The hotel is located in a traditional tall building overlooking a stretch of water. On the other side one could see various modern buildings. The area around the hotel is quite pleasant with a cycle track running in front of the hotel as well as a road. The \"nieuwmarkt\" area is within walking distance and here one can find many restaurants and cafes. The condition of the hotel is good but the stairs are steep which is to be expected in such an old building. Breakfast was available for an extra 17.5 EUR.

I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The entire property feels rundown and poorly maintained, giving the impression that it hasn’t been cared for in a long time. The layout of the building is confusing and impractical — more like a badly designed rabbit warren than a comfortable hotel.

This place is definitely not suitable for families or elderly guests, as the stairs are extremely steep and narrow, making it difficult to move around safely or carry luggage.

The room itself was also underwhelming. The bed was made up of two single mattresses pushed together instead of a proper double, and they constantly shifted apart during the night, leaving an uncomfortable gap in the middle. The mattresses felt like cheap foam, similar to budget IKEA beds, and provided very little support or comfort.

The bathroom was in particularly poor condition — water-stained, damaged, and generally unappealing. It clearly needed a thorough renovation, as the fixtures and tiles were old and worn, giving the whole space an unhygienic feel.

The only positive aspect of the stay was the hotel’s location. It’s conveniently close to the train station and within walking distance of the city center, which makes getting around quite easy.

Overall, while the location is great, the hotel itself is in dire need of renovation, better maintenance, and more attention to guest comfort. I would not recommend staying here unless major improvements are made.

We had a great stay at Hotel Library in Amsterdam. They let us check in early, which was amazing after an overnight flight from Boston. The room was spotless, and the reception staff were super friendly. It’s also in a really central location, which made it easy to get around. Honestly can’t fault anything. Only small suggestion would be to have a glass in the bathroom for brushing teeth, otherwise, everything was perfect!

A convenient location not far from the train station and close to the city centre. The concept of the library is charming. Once you stay and walk around you'll see how they were inspired for the theme of the hotel.
Everything was good with the room (clean, nice toiletries for your stay, you can feel safe with luggage storage, etc.) Staff are helpful and pleasant. A quick stay for us.

Ghost room, bad attitude, no refund... Just awful

Turned up having booked shortly before to be told it was impossible I made a booking for that night. When I showed the reservation, they then realised it was POSSIBLE! Maybe, they should have asked to see the reservation first before telling me I was wrong (when I clearly wasn't).
Anyway, they were sold out... So, took my money, told me I was wrong (when I wasn't), failed to apologise at all (for the lack of room or for telling me I didn't make a reservation), couldn't provide a room, and I had to request a refund. Absolutely pathetic.

First, the hotel facilities, entrance, and reception are very run-down and very small. Second, the elevator is also very small. It’s common during the summer season to have air conditioning. We didn’t see any air conditioning in the rooms, nor was it specified. There is a small fan, but there's nowhere to plug it in. Then, the rooms are very small. The reception service is terrible. The reception and entrance are quite deteriorated. Third, when trying to leave today, I had several suitcases. I was on floor minus one and tried to come up with the luggage, but it was almost impossible due to the limited space. And the elevator don't work. This is definitely a hotel I would not recommend again.

The mattresses are extremely old and the mattress pad needs replacing. Iand dirt underneath the mattress on the mattress pads. Absolutely disgusting. There was mold in our bathroom around the shower doors and surrounding walls. Not sanitary whatsoever.

The hotel met all of our needs. This is an urban location and the room with a queen, twin beds, and bathroom was perfect. The bathroom is well constructed but needs a heavier toilet seat and also, to be professionally cleaned after every guest. The fans are great especially on a rainy, moist day. Since there is no air conditioner, it's nice that the windows open; however, security may be an issue since it seems that nearby residents can climb on their roof tops and walk over and gain entry. The lift does not come to the third floors so this hotel may not be ideal for someone with mobility issues. Our room did not smell like smoke but smoking is going on in such proximity to the hotel that it's smoky on the first level.

Everything went well, and was as we expected it to be. Great location, a smallish room, but in hotels of this vintage that’s what to expect. The fact that there was an elevator was important. The breakfast was above average. We had our window open the whole time to keep the room temp down I believe there is no AC which could be an issue for some in the summer months.

For the price range it was perfect! The room was CLEAN! Any reviews that say otherwise don’t understand that in some areas water dries leaving a whitish residue after cleaning. It was close to everything we wanted to see and the breakfast was amazing in a beautiful room. Not easily accessible by wheelchair.

Hotel Library is really lovely, great vibe as soon as you come in and staff were really friendly!
Luggage storage felt totally secure which was great as we needed to make use both on the day we arrived and the day we left!
We had a basement room which was brighter and airier than expected given the addition of the window.
The room was spacious, clean and modern in design with a fabulous bathroom with a powerful shower!
Conveniently located about 10-15 min walk from the main train station and walking distance to everything in Amsterdam this is an awesome hotel especially if like us you only have a short amount of time in the city!

This place is great and very clean! We chose the cheapest option because we were budget travelling and it was very nice for the price. The only issue we had is that the property does not have a grocery store or coffee shop close. However this was supplemented because they offer a free coffee service which was great in the morning.

We stayed for 4 nights and had such a wonderful experience. The staff were very helpful and considerate, and hotel itself was in a brilliant location. It was a short walk from Centraal station, Damrak and the city centre.
I loved the gorgeous bookshelves and mezzanine seating area to relax and read, the coffee machine and the calming ambience after a long day of sightseeing. Our hotel room was very clean with all the amenities we needed, and we had a very comfortable stay.
Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to visit Amsterdam and is looking for a well located spot in a lovely part of town. Thank you Hotel Library for a memorable stay!
