Short walk from central station, this hotel has it all. We loved our stay and I’m sure this was the comfiest bed I had ever stayed in. Perfect location for seeing the sights. You didn’t hear a thing in our room and had the best nights sleep. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. 10/10 for us

We booked this hotel for the spa facilities and were very disappointed.

We weren’t told at any point that the pool was out of order, and nothing was mentioned at check-in. We were later told it would open the next day, but it didn’t. The jacuzzi and steam room were also out of order all weekend. Staff repeatedly said the facilities would open later, but they never did.

We were told we could use another hotel’s pool 10 minutes away, with no real apology or clear information. Communication was poor throughout.

The room was large and the beds were comfortable, but the hotel is overpriced for what it offers, particularly when the spa facilities were out of order all weekend. We wouldn’t stay again. When we returned to collect bags after leaving them in their storage for the day, they couldn't find our bags and told us they had multiple locations they stored them in within the hotel and needed to hunt for them.

Overall, a disappointing stay. Avoid this hotel.

Because of a snow storm in the states we had to extend our holiday by two days unexpectedly and chose this hotel. I wish we booked for the entire holiday as it was an absolute pleasure to stay at. Staff friendly, room clean and spacious and overall great experience. Loved the free minibar in the room that was refilled daily and staff even came around every night to see if we needed anything.

This hotel was amazing!! Old world charm with modern accommodations. Just outside Amsterdam city center by a 10 min walk, also right near the central train station. The staff was excellent and provided superb service. Lots or restaurants nearby and a really nice onsite restaurant and bar. You can book this hotel and have no regrets!

Quite gothic, and definitely not the 'normal' and 'corporate' of interiors adds to the charm.
Staff were well annoying at check in - we got there seven minutes early and they wouldn't check us in then whilst standing waiting they checked in two other rooms... Apart from that that staff were lovely!!

Beautiful grand old hotel.the staff were incredibly helpful and the concierge was always at hand to guide you in the right direction. My room was stunning and had a lovely canal view. Breakfast buffet was very good and had some healthy options, but the best part of the hotel was the wellness spa and the warm pool that made you feel you were under the nights sky. Highly recommend. However, please note the restaurant is closed (although there are bar snacks) and a few elevators weren’t working when I was there.

Cool historic hotel in a good location, but was missing key amenities. First, there was no elevator to the ground floor/basement where my room was. Second, when I called for room service, I was informed they could only provide drinks as the kitchen was being renovated. But when I walked by the restaurant upstairs, it seemed people were being served food. Lastly, loud jackhammer noise was outside my room in the morning starting at 8 AM, which I thought was maybe from the kitchen \"renovations.\"

We had a wonderful stay. Our room was beautiful, featuring grand windows and electric curtains that added a luxurious touch. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower room was excellent, stocked with generous-sized bottles of shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. The only small downside was that the tea bags weren’t great and there was no milk provided in the room.

The staff were polite and welcoming throughout our stay. Breakfast was fantastic, offering a wide variety of options including smoked salmon, avocado, fresh pastries, a full English breakfast, juices, prosecco, and fresh fruits — something for everyone.

The spa facilities were lovely overall. Although we were disappointed that the steam room was out of order and the jacuzzi could have been a bit hotter, the pool was great and the two saunas were excellent.

The location is perfect — just minutes from Central Station and surrounded by lively restaurants and bars. We would certainly stay here again.

A thin veneer of professionalism upon arrival and downhill from there.
This is a 5-star hotel , with a 5-star price so details do matter.
Mini fridge full of capped bottles, no bottle opener.
Staff talking over me when I’m trying to answer their question.
Room layout not great.
Windows have signs on them that say that they open… they don’t.
Can’t reduce the temperature less than 20.5c, windows won’t open, and very hot room.

Positive: restaurant on site very good with excellent service.

Amazing architecture and beautiful hotel.Swimming pool was fabulous and open till 11pm which was great as not many hotels keep the pool open so late. Great location -7 mins walk from the train station and located in the right place for exploring.Ate in the hotel restaurant one evening , again good food and beautiful decor.

Honestly, I will never return to this hotel. Booked this hotel mainly for the enticing photos of their wellness centre. However when I actually went to this wellness centre the steam room was out of order and there was work men using loud tools doing works in the wellness centre. The room service was not at all up to the standards I expected. All they did was came and cleaned the bed to a minimum.. didn’t refill tissue or take the rubbish..
My main issue was that the check in for this hotel was slightly late and I enquired several times before hand if I could check in early at a fee however it was not possible which is something I find disappointing coming from a 5* hotel…. The hotel requires a lot of walking to get to some rooms… not the best atmosphere… I wouldn’t return back to this hotel

The room was clean and nice, however the restaurant food was not good at all. The pool as open but had massive renovations happening the time we were there. It was loud and uncomfortable. Although the room was clean, it was difficult to get timely service and not being able to trust the food was not a good experience.

The outer building of the hotel is impressive, but the rooms are very dated and not up to standard anymore.

Location is good, sauna and pool facilities are small but good.

Unfortunately they were filming something at the hotel which took up the whole lobby area in the morning, then decided to film the first floor where we were staying. We weren’t warned about this in advance and it was very noisy and disturbing.

The staff are great. The hotel is probably lovely…. I say probably because I had the smallest and most uncomfortable room I’ve ever booked. The website said rooms were full so I knew it was a single. But the picture looked fairly good. I didn’t realize that there wasn’t even enough space on the side of the bed to walk. I had to crawl in, things didn’t work - the plug in the bathroom (which was small as well and would be hard to navigate if you were a bit on the larger size), there wasn’t a robe (although the website said to expect one) and the closet was close to nonexistent. I had no place to put my backpack and if I’d had luggage I don’t think it would have fit. Yet, this room with taxes cost 260 USA. They shouldn’t let it out. I feel quite ripped off. I would have left if it hadn’t been late and I was tired from having all my flights canceled for the second day in a row (hence the no luggage). Get a clue people and use this space for storage.

The room was spacious and clean, housekeeping did a great job, and all staff we talked with were spectacular - knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful.

The pool and saunas were wonderful. Unfortunately, the hot tub wasn’t working, but that was only a minor disappointment.

The hotel’s location is excellent, within walking distance of Amsterdam Centraal, and allows for easy navigation through the city.

Love the hotel. Only thing is the room service…. I called up at 10.04pm only to be told room service from the menu stops at 10pm, when it’s advertised at 11m. Very disappointed as has to order pizzas which wasn’t what we wanted and weren’t all that.

The Grand Hotel Amrath Amsterdam was the coolest place! Very old & just what we were hoping for in Amsterdam. Old, charming & fun. Very high ceilings in rooms. Staff was great. We could walk all over the city. If we ever return to Amsterdam, we would definitely stay here again.

Had a problem with the safe, entire safe was replaced in 20 minutes, however little inconvenient as we needed to go out.

Chose the green option to not have room cleaned so had complimentary drink, drink limited to small beer or house wine, not a great incentive and the service from the 2 male staff in the bar/restaurant not too friendly

We chose this hotel as it has a pool, jacuzzi and steam room but the jacuzzi and steam room out of order, only the saunas working, so a bit disappointing as lots of other hotels nearby and possibly cheaper

Other than that great location, friendly front of house staff and technicians. Lovely mini break

What a grand hotel this is! The staff were very nice and accommodating. There was a mixup with our reservation, which they remedied by giving us a better room with a view.
In the 1800s, this was the place where people came to buy tickets for sea travel and merchants dealt with shipping cargo, etc. Many of the guest rooms were once ticket or business offices, retaining much of its old world charm. It is worth the time to walk around the inside and outside of the hotel. Outside there are many stone carvings, which probably represented the different shipping companies inside.

Some of the tour guides say that the hotel is haunted, but we did not run into any ghosts.
It is within a few blocks of Central Station, the Nieuw Markt and several restaurants. Directly across the canal is a nice-sized grocery store.
It should be noted that there are several steps from the street to the lobby and that although there is no handrail, you can grasp onto the stone wall and carvings. Once inside, there is a lift and rooms come with both a bathtub and walk-in shower.
