For the price this was crazy. Very old hotel bed extremely uncomfortable. Tired and just not nice. The guy at reception was adamant that I was going to smoke in my room for some reason. No idea why I have no intention doing so. Neither do I smoke

The Hotel France is in a convenient location, very walkable and close to the train station. Staff are very nice. Here goes my first bad review ever….for quite a high price, it is more average (at best) hostel in vibes than luxury hotel. It is very old, but there is no excuse for the very dirty carpeting in the entry way and mouldy shower curtain and shower as well as the sporadic room service. The laminate flooring in the room was also very worn and lifting up. The beds were not uncomfortable and clean, however. As Amsterdam is very expensive, I would pay more for a nicer hotel next time, or better yet spend much less at a beautiful airport hotel and take the train in daily if that is not too inconvenient.

Tiny room, no air-conditioning

Two good features: convenient to Centraal Station and staff kind and friendly. Not so good: room and bathroom tiny. Not very clean. Bed hard, pillows lumpy. Minimal amenities; no free coffee. Most important, the listing online promised air-conditioning but it was just weak air-circulation without cooling. With 32 C / 90 F temps outside, the room was so hot and stuffy I hardly slept at all.

I am currently staying in the France Hotel in Amsterdam and during check in we were told that the AC was broken. I am staying with two other adults in the small room and it is currently 2am and the three of us are unable to sleep due to how hot it is. The fact that the Hotel said it had AC and could room three adults is the reason why I chose this Hotel. Not being able to sleep on the airplane from JFK to AMS and now not being able to sleep tonight due to how hot it is in this small room makes me extremely unhappy. I am glad we are leaving in the morning.

Great location in the heart of the oldest districts. Easy acess/walkable from train station and close to Viking's port. Clean, well appointed room. We found a jazz bar around the corner after dinner in the neighborhood.

The hotel is very well located although the front desk clears was a bit unwelcoming. The room we choose was a the cheapest one since we were just staying 1 night, no windows, felt dirty and it smelled a lot of cigarettes and weed. Although it is not allowed to smoked, it felt like they did inside this room , considering the no window part.

The check in was rough, gave us no information so we didn’t know if they served breakfast or not.

Great location and clean hotel.

The location was lovely, and not particularly noisy despite being very central. The room was clean and reasonably comfortable, the air conditioning and the internet worked fine. The staff at the reception were friendly and helpful.

The main drawbacks: the water pressure in the shower was quite weak. Also: couldn't guarantee a twin bed until we actually arrived there.

Good value to be in Amsterdam centre

Clean room. Friendly reception. Breakfast served in the bar next door was reasonable. Great location for exploring Amsterdam - and close to the Central Station. For the price - was very pleased with the hotel.

Even that this was a single room the area felt extremely small. You could barely walk within the room. The place was clean but everything felt a little ware down, not a cozy room where you want to spend some hours to rest during the day. It works if you are only looking for a well located place to sleep.

Definition of Tourist Trap - Do Not Book

Don't let the nice lobby fool you, avoid booking this hotel.

1) You can't pay for this hotel in advance, and as a result, they increased the rate by about $60 from what they listed on booking

2) The staff was nice, but the guy checking us in (just shortly after 3) barely knew anything about the property. Not about the breakfast, luggage storage or even where the room was.

3) Turns out our floor (floor #8 mind you) was the basement. There was no elevator, just an extremely steep flight of stairs. This meant that our floor had no windows

4) The walls were incredibly thin. You could hear every noise in the hallway, and because most of the hotel's laundry and worker sections were also downstairs, you could hear a litany of random noises, from laundry machines to pipes, throughout the night.

5) How this is even a thing, I don't know. But any time someone opened our door, or one of the doors adjacent to our room, an alarm went off in the door.

6) Breakfast is in the pub next door and wasn't staffed by anyone it seemed. While the food quality was admittedly decent, it was an overall weird experience.

7) Their luggage storage room isn't locked and is located at the very front of the hotel. It isn't even in full view of the reception desk, meaning anyone could go in at will.

To be fair, the hotel is well located.

Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere. We stayed at another hotel in Amsterdam, for less money, one night due to plan changes and it was worlds better.

Pricey but expected for red light district. No view from window but lobby sees old church and on a canal. Easy walk from centraal station. Largish room for Europe and all features worked...shower had nice hot water and AC- heat fine. Can walk to lots of attractions. Good breakfast and dinner ribs at next door Molly Malones.

Hotel was clean, nice, but minimal. The breakfast was good but nothing special, and shutdown immediately at 10:00. Staff was nice, friendly, and helpful with POIs and directions. Things did backup at the desk when multiple guests arrived simultaneously since the desk has a limited number of staff.

Real let down (don't be fooled by pics and reviews), I've been going to Amsterdam 2-4 times a year for the last 20 years
and can honestly say its the worst hotel I've stayed in.
room like a prison cell, one high up window, dusty, got bites on me from fleas I think, really noisy,
aircon on permanently no way of turning it off or adjusting (never been in a hotel where its like that)
there a few more bits but id rather forget about it now.......
there are so many better hotels in Amsterdam to stay for the same price.
Location is the only positive
will not stay here again or recommend

I stayed one night and it cost me £225. Great location but way too expensive. Facilities in the room were very basic for the price. Breakfast was in a pub next door which was small, dark and packed with people. I had to walk out.

Central location, clean hotel

I,m very familiar with Amsterdam and this hotel was in a good central location only about a 5 minute walk from Central Station.The positives were the convenience and that the hotel was spotlessly clean, however i had booked and paid more for a room with window but the said window was small and located at the very top of the room so i still don,t know if there was a view or of what because unless i was about 7 feet tall or provided with a step ladder then there was no way i or anyone was going to reach to find out, in fact the curtain was closed when i entered the room and remained closed which left the room quite dim. There were no tea making facilities in the room which i found very odd and quite annoying. There was a vending machine in the foyer which dispensed drinks in terrible plastic cups with powdered milk!! for the pricey sum of 2 euro, not good. Finally the staff were pleasant although not much contact except for the room cleaning ladies who were very pleasant, friendly and very good at their job. Breakfast was served in the bar next door which was fine and filling.

I wasn’t impressed with the property for two reasons: the walls are paper thin - a guest next to our room was so drunk one night, yelling and throwing herself against the walls and doors. This went on for two hours at 3-5 am. Also, My husband and I came home from our stay with bed bug bites!

We had 2 rooms. They were nothing alike. Once was fairly nice, clean, bright, coffee station, shampoo. The other was small, dark, slanted ceilings making it hard to walk around the bed, no coffee, no shampoo, no house keeping service.... basically an old, dirty closet. Same price. When i told the reception he really was rude and abrupt.

Tourist hotel convenient for station and walking

Hotel is very close to station so we were able to enjoy walking round Amsterdam and taking a trip south by train.
The hotel staff would do a better job if they remembered to smile or interact a little with their guests. Our experience was rather unwelcoming because of the reception.
Breakfast, served in the Irish bar next door, was adequate, but not memorable.

Great spot to enjoy Amsterdam

Great place to stay - close to the train station and all that Amsterdam has to offer. The room and bathroom were clean and the bed was comfortable. Even though the red light district is close by the room was quiet. The included breakfast was served at the Irish Pub next door and it was delicious, with lots of options on offer. The staff were courteous and very helpful. We would stay again

The best thing about France hotel is the location, it is close to the central station and you can walk to most tourist attractions or take the tram or train or bus. And breakfast was complimentary and it was decent. Be careful when you book with booking.com , they booked me a room with NO windows on the basement and i didn't see that until i got to the hotel. I paid 20Euros extra for another room. I wont be booking through them anymore in future and will book directly with the hotel, i was very angry.

The France Hotel is a 2 minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station, really good location. The free breakfast in the pub next door was fun, and the staff is excellent. The room was tight and a little warm, the AC ran but didn’t help much. Overall a good stay.

Hotel was fine, staff generally helpful, some more friendly than others. Cleaners were very helpful. Room over looking the old church was lovely, well lit at night. Great to find a hotel where you can open the windows to cool the room down. Breakfast at Molly's was an experience - hugely over crowded one day with no welcome or assistance to understand what went on. The second day there were welcoming staff and lots of assistance! Generally a great breakfast, lots of choice. Location was central which meant the streets were crowded most of the time and a bit noisy at night.
