Hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Amsterdam.

Room is cosy but we were out and about the whole time so it suited us.

Standard continental breakfast is offered, includes everything you could need.

Our departing flight was late in the day and the hotel were happy to store our bags while we explored.

I picked this hotel because of its proximity to Central Station, and to the area where tour guides and buses meet to pick up travellers. Since I like to walk, I found the distance to places like the Rijksmuseum and the Anne Frank House very doable. Front desk personnel was very helpful and attentive, especially Ario. Breakfast was plentiful, and the coffee machine offered several choices. My only worry about the room was the shower. It is a huge bathtub with only half a glass door, which means bathroom floor gets wet, creating the potential for a bad fall. One needs to be very cautious stepping out.

City Hotel is super convenient to Amsterdam Centraal and the city’s main tourist areas. Big plus: outstanding free breakfast, which in an area where restaurants are not cheap, puts you ahead on the day. Food is fresh, tasty, and nutritious.

I stayed with my 3 boys. We got the suite. It was spacious and exactly like shown in the pictures with a canal view. Had a small kitchen and also a dining table which gave us lots of space. The hotel was family friendly. Included breakfast was a plus. The staff was very cooperative and helpful. It was a perfect location. You could catch a bus right from the front of the hotel. Central station was less than a 10 mins walk. Loved the location. The housekeeping was very efficient as well.

Location is great and we had a good breakfast. The room is quite small but it’s okay for a couple.What we don’t like is the absence of ventilation in the restroom/toilet including the connecting 3 steps stairs to the room. Its really hard for older couple like us to transfer our heavy luggage. But overall, our stay with the hotel was really good.

this is my first solo travel and I had a very comfortable and good 3 night stay in the hotel. I have stayed in a few budget hotels and this is one of the nicest one. It is very close to everything, especially the central station. my room was serviced everyday and the breakfast included was a plus. staff are all nice, will definitely stay again

Comfy if you mind your head

Issues I had with the room, firstly as very old building, stairs very steep and spiralling, and as lift only goes to floor 2 and was on 3rd floor, was difficult with luggage. Was in single room and quite small, biggest issues were sloping ceilings as banged head a number of times because of this. Poor water pressure also in shower.

However, apart from this was comfortable and staff very friendly, and if not for the ceilings would have stayed again, but can’t overlook this as still have throbbing head.

During my recent stay at City Hotel Amsterdam, we encountered several issues that significantly impacted our comfort and overall experience.
Firstly, the hotel's policy of not allowing the use of air conditioning before July during the summer, despite sweltering outdoor temperatures, was highly inconvenient. The AC units were disconnected, preventing guests from using them.
Additionally, the shower facilities were inadequate; the shower area was extremely small, lacked a door or a curtain, resulting in water spilling into the rest of the bathroom.
Lastly, navigating from the lobby to the room with luggage was a complex ordeal due to the layout of the hotel.
These factors contributed to a less than satisfactory stay, and I hope the hotel addresses these concerns for the comfort of future guests.
On the positive side, the front desk staff was very kind and friendly, and the hotel's location was a plus.

Great location. But wish the site would have informed better on the room set up and location. The A/C did not work which apparently they know that none worked. We were set on the 3rd floor , in the attic which was warm since the power does not stay on when you leave. The stairs were out of a Harry Potter movie and extremely difficult to navigate with suitcase. Great fun for very light travelers, but unfortunately I was traveling a group that pack heavy. If I was aware of the set up, I wouldn’t have stayed at this hotel..
Price is definitely not reflecting the room set up, but the location only.
Some of the staff, while friendly were not very helpful for service.

This hotel did not work for me personally

I feel like it was too far away from anything restaurants, stores, grocery stores, souvenirs, etc. The building is older. The room was nice and clean, but it was very damp. I was there when the weather was rainy and windy and therefore, I could never get warm.
It is located close to the train station. Therefore, if you are planning on using the train a lot, it might work for you.
I personally would not book a reservation here again. It did not work for me.

Tiny, cramped room even by European standards. Hallways and stairways were very outdated, ancient dirty carpet.
Positives: good location, nice shower, good breakfast included unlike most Amsterdam hotels that want to charge 30 euros for breakfast.
Very average hotel, not bad but rating of > 8 seems exaggerated.

This was my first time in Amsterdam and I’m glad I booked this hotel. Very centrally located about 7 min walking from Amsterdam Central (their main train station) and walkable to many of the city’s attractions.
Their reception and customer service was OUTSTANDING. So thankful for their help. I left super early and they made sure they prepared a few breakfast items to go.Top Notch service!!

This is a small hotel, family owned and the rooms are not huge but very clean and comfortable and quiet. Their breakfast which was included was plentiful and very good.

Highly recommend this hotel.Next time I’m back in Amsterdam will make sure to stay here again.

Perfect experience at this small, unpretentious hotel. Yes the rooms are small - it is clearly disclosed and advertised ; shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. The rooms and hotels areas are spotlessly clean and modern. The hotel is nice and quiet. Staff was courteous and friendly throughout my stay.
Location is perfect . Right downtown to the side, and close to the train station.

A very pleasant 2-night stay

i think size (or lack thereof) may just be an Amsterdam thing, but I was \"upgraded\" to a superior twin room after initially booking a basement room. The superior room was probably the size of two double beds in total. But then again, all I did was sleep in the room so not a massive deal. The location was great and breakfast was included. It was a very simple breakfast but very well presented and consisted of reasonably good quality products. the staff were very friendly and all in all a very pleasant 2-night stay

Alright. You won't get what you pay for.

The photos of the rooms in the hotel are totally different than the rooms when you get there.
We paid for a superior room for 3 nights, photos looked good, room looked big however the room we were in was very small. Aparently there is only one superior room in the hotel. Maybe they should update their photos to show the truth because that was not what we paid for!

Breakfast was okay, however there was a few flies flying around the fruit which really should have been covered up!
We also had a nice view out the window right into a few other houses. Could see everything!

The staff were friendly enough. As we checked out early they made us a sandwich to take witu us.

All in all the hotel really needs updating, also the wobbly slabs when you go out to some of the rooms. Does for a couple of days, but wouldn't reccomend for longer

One night in a \"Standard Room, Double Bed\", as listed on Hotels.com.
Pros: Excellent location, extremely helpful, friendly staff, luggage storage, 2PM check in/12 PM check out is generous compared to other options. Was able to book in the summer for under $200, which can be a challenge in the city center. The Wifi in our room was very fast, and very reliable. Bed was very clean.
But oh...the cons: LOW CEILINGS in some rooms. My partner is just over 6 ft. tall, and he could not stand up straight in some places. We both had to duck to step up into the bathroom, and there was an uncomfortably low-hanging beam right above the toilet. So just a \"heads up\", if you are on the taller side, and not cautious, you WILL hit your head on concrete. We aren't picky travelers and have stayed in many older hotels around the world, but we did consider eating the cost to book a different room for fear of injury-no exaggeration. This section of rooms is also not serviced by the lift, so be mindful when selecting your room type if you have a good amount of luggage-there aren't many stairs, but they are narrow and steep.

No aircon(didn't expect it per listing), but does come with a decent fan. The room was still quite warm during our June stay, so don't expect any reprieve from the hot, humid weather during the summer.

All in all, however, if you're doing nothing but sleeping here, it is an acceptable option in an otherwise expensive city. Just choose your room type carefully if you're tall.

Nice hotel, within 10 minute walk from the main train station and easy walking to sights in Amsterdam. Helpful front desk; they were able to arrange a canal ride. Rooms are small, which is normal for Amsterdam. There was no fridge, which was disappointing. No air conditioning, which was not a problem for early May, but could be in July/August. Overall, a pleasant stay, and would return; reasonably priced.

Let me say the staff is wonderful. I’m a single traveler and everyone was so nice. I could walk up to the bar downstairs anytime and have a drink , converse with the staff and the breakfast buffet was delicious. The only drawback was the room layout. My room had a pillar in the middle separating the main area frame the desk and chair. Very strange. Maybe not all the rooms are like that.
