Great location. Clean comfortable room. I wish they had avoided the disappointment of not being able to shower with an honest conversation at check in that the hotel had no hot water. It wasn’t that the issue was not solve able but we had traveled all day wanted a nice room a hot shower before going out to dinner. Unfortunately we had no shower and dinner in stinky travel clothes. Eventually they called to tell us it had been repaired but it was Luke warm at very best. Just be honest with people at check in. Overt the whole situation with not being sneaky.

Unfortunately, my experience at Hotel Mai was disappointing, beginning with check-in. Upon arriving early, the front desk staff member we encountered was rude from the beginning, before even asking our name, we were told check-in was at 3pm. We fully understood and had no issue waiting, but when we asked how we would be notified if a room became available earlier, we were simply told to keep coming back. She said we could not call or email, and would have to keep physically coming back every hour to check if something became available.

Each time we returned to the desk, we were not acknowledged despite the staff member chatting with coworkers. No greeting, no eye contact, no updates. Only after we sat quietly in the lobby for some time did a room become available, again without any apology or explanation.

During our stay, service remained inconsistent. When we requested our room to be cleaned, very little appeared to be done beyond making the bed. Trash was not emptied, toilet paper was not refilled, and the shower soap was completely empty. We had to ask twice for these basic items to be addressed.

We also mentioned our experience with the front desk staff member to other employees, who responded that they knew exactly who we were referring to and that she “has good days and bad days.” This response was surprising and concerning, as it suggests the behavior is known and accepted rather than addressed.

The hotel is a bid oddly configured involving two adjacent buildings. This meant I had to go up one floor, walk down a long hall and then find the next elevator up to my one of the 6 rooms on that second floor. I got confused first few times. The hotel is also very hard to find, even with your phone and walking directions.
The location is great and the rooms are relatively bigger and newly done, so, once you are there, it’s great. The lobby is nicely decorated and a good spot to wait out the rain. All the staff I interacted with with great- open, honest, helpful. I don’t choose to get breakfast cause I’m a vegetarian, but I looked in on the room, food and vibe and it looked great.

The room was perfectly laid out for the 3 of us. My son had his own little space and there was lots of room for our luggage. We arrived early in the day and were very jet lagged and they were able to get us checked in early to our room which was a huge bonus. Hotel is located in perfect area for restaurants and exploration. Will definitely stay here again!

We visited the Mai for our wedding anniversary and had a fantastic time! The staff were incredible and always greeted us with a smile. Our room was always spotless. Given the location, i was worried there could be too much noise but i was so wrong - best nights sleep we'd had in years! 100% recommend and would definitely go back!

Stunning view of the canal, with daily room refreshes that make staying in a hotel my favorite choice. Very friendly staff. Overall, super happy and would stay again.

2 things I want to mention though. 1. They don't offer very many amenities. None in the room, so I'm not sure what was offered if you ask at the desk. However, my TOTM started early (wasn't supposed to happen until after my trip) and I asked for a feminine product at the front desk to get me through the morning/until I could buy some while I was out. The response was \"there's a drug store a 10 minute walk away\" which was bascially a 20 minute free-bleed walk round-trip. If that's hard for you to read, imagine living through it. There are many hotel amenities I could go without, but that should really be considered part of the medical kit supply. 2. I understand that the doors being locked after a certain hour is supposed to be a \"safety measure,\" but as a single woman traveling alone, I was left waiting outside too long for my taste on a few occasions. The proximity to the Red Light district means I was followed and cat called while walking through a few times (the hotel itself is on a quiet, beautiful canal just one street over). If you've ever been followed by a man, you don't want to be locked out of your safe place for a second longer than you have to. Hanging out outside also gives people the opportunity to know whe I'd prefer if the doors were card-key or code-locked for faster and more reliable entry.

The triple room (2 beds) was fairly spacious. But either too bright or too dark (i.e. all the lights were on, or none were on). The shower was so dark I needed a flashlight to figure out the fixtures the first time. And I had to get our phone flashlight out to see down the hallway leading to the room. but the beds were comfortable. The room was quiet (looked over courtyard).

500 dollars a night, no fridge in unit, glitchy AC

The A/C heating in the unit for the executive suite was problematic to use. The console often does not react to changes, whether heating and cooling and downstairs vs upstairs have a big temperature difference by several degrees. You can also clearly hear your hotel neighbors whether conversations or phone alerts.

My biggest issue was I was expecting a basic necessity in the hotel, whether it’s even a 3 star hotel at 500 dollars a night is highly debatable since there is no fringe inside the unit or any units. In order to cool your items you need to go to concierge and they give you a ticket to store which is highly inconvenient. Also downstairs is not practical with no entertainment or tv but a simple table and oddly placed cabinet. The stairs are problematic at night when lights are off to navigate to the bathroom.

Hotel Mai checked all the boxes for me: great location near Amsterdam Centraal on the canal, large elevator, no steps too navigate, quiet street, great AC, comfy beds, black out drapes, excellent and substantial breakfast available, self serve happy hour drinks and snacks, no smoking, friendly & helpful staff.
My only complaint is the halls and rooms were very dark. The light system in the room was so hard to figure out we had to take the key out of its setting to get all the lights out at night. Luckily, that didn’t turn off the AC. We had lots of windows for lighting during the day though, and a great view. I highly recommend it.

My triple room was fantastic! The only hotel I found where my friend and I had 2 beds that were slightly separated by a small wall, giving us a little bit of noise protection and privacy.

I made a special request for bath robes, which were provided. The location is convenient for access on foot to the train station and to Dam Square.

Just outside this hotel, Canal View was dirty with garbage and wine bottles, where homeless people gathered at night. It was not good lighting outside our entrance and including the above mentioned we felt unsafe walking in this area at night. Hemce, we tried to be back tobthe hotel before dark. We paid extra money for a Canal View and we were very disappointed width this. Inside our room the daily housekeeping did not chance our sheets daily. I know thus because there were still crumbs on our bedsheets after eating in bed tge night beforel

About 2 blocks from the Red Light District and it was so very quiet and peaceful. I couldn't believe it. So close to everything, restaurants, shops, and train station. The room was lovely. Big for European standards and the shower was large with nice HOT water with great water pressure. It was in May so weather was hot and cold but AC worked lovely, the room was always at a perfect temperature. Front desk were accomadating and very kind all the time, didn't matter who was there, they were all very friendly and willing to help and guide. Loved our stay!

So the Hotel was nice and everything but the lighting in the room was very dark. They also charge me for an extra bed for my girls even tho I have one of the big rooms. They said it is a not a double bed room but it is one of the big rooms and it was but they still charge me for an extra bed. Staff was nice and friendly but I would really like them to have extra lighting in the room. My wife is a make up artist and she said the lighting is very minimal.

A fantastic boutique hotel in a quiet location with lovely canal views yet so close to all the hotspots in the central area.

Executive Double Canal view room was spacious, clean and comfortable with big windows overlooking the canal
The only things the room lacked was wardrobe / storage space - this wasn't an issue for me as a solo traveler for 2 nights but may not be ideal for a couple on a longer stay - and towel hooks in the bathroom. Loved everything else - comfortable bed, good lighting, good coffee machine.

Very friendly and helpful staff with efficient check-in and check-out. The Honesty Bar next to the lobby is a nice touch, good selection and reasonable prices for a quiet drink at the end of a busy day

We stayed one night and unfortunately, the guest in the room above us was very loud. Playing music, talking and walking around. We selected this hotel for several reasons, one of which is that they advertised soundproof rooms. These rooms are not at all soundproofed. I do feel the staff did their best to manage the situation, but it was a problem in the early evening and then again in the middle of the night - around 3 o’clock in the morning.
For this reason, I would not stay at this hotel again.
