This is a lovely quirky place. The food is excellent and the room clean. Staff is ecclectic, but everyone is super friendly and all ages were represented. A little out of the way, but at 1am I appreciate that I am next to a dog park and not a coffee shop or bar, and the walk to city center is maybe 15 minutes. If you live with a morning coke drinker be advised no soda's are served on site but the coffee is excellent. Can't wait to come back

Clean, kitchy 60s style previous naval officers quarters, with individually painted murals in all the rooms, plus other art works on display. Bed was very comfortable, food good.

The vibe is great. Artsy place. There was a jazz band playing in the bar when I returned from exploring the city. It’s off the beaten path a bit. I was a bit sketched out walking through the park to the entrance the first day but realized it’s a pretty good area overall to be. Wanted to stay an extra night but the place was all booked up.

This was a horrible room. The end table were stools.. not old or classy stools. The lights beside the bed were plastic boxes with Christmas tree white bulbs Everything was mismatched and worn. It should not be listed on Travelocity. The sheets were clean and the bathroom appeared newly done. We were next to barb wire fences and it appeared the hotel was also being used as university or other housing. This was not a cheap room and I should receive a refund. It was a mess!

There is a hilarious sarcastic morning host at the front desk. This place has a funky retro vibe and the bar plays great music. Rooms are clean and comfortable and lots of windows. The family room is nice in that the parent’s bed is separated somewhat by a wall and closet for privacy. Outside are the public swimming lanes of Amsterdam harbour and garden tables which are lovely to sit at and have a drink. All the serving staff are very friendly. This is a little gem just outside of city centre where there are nice lawns and it is away from traffic in general. It is very picturesque. Much more affordable than rooms downtown though probably not for travellers seeking a luxury experience. I definitely want to come back and see some live music next time and would use this as my home base again. While the property is great for the budget as an accommodation the food and drink is not inexpensive, but it is of better value in quality than you will find at tourist spots in the city centre.

A quirky hotel with a clean room, friendly front desk staff (Larissa was awesome!), and a cat! Loved the story of how she got her name, Amy Winehouse. Food in the restaurant was tasty. Little further from city center than we expected, but easily reached by public transport or Uber. Elevator a little slow, but the let you know that when you check in 😉. Loved looking out on the harbor and watching the sunsets.

not at all a 4 or 5 star hotel- Was very disappointed in the place, thought it had AC, no coffee makers in room.Service in the restaurant was basically non -existent. They don't acknowledge you when you enter or bring you a menu.I could not get hot water in the shower on my night of arrival. When I reported it the next day, the desk clerk told me not taking a shower after traveling all day was not necessary.

Beautifully situated between a park and a canal, the hotel is still within walking distance from the central train station. The restaurant and bar were both great, and the staff was helpful and friendly. My single room was small but well equipped, and the bathroom was modern. I am hoping for a chance to stay there again.

This hotel was lovely , first thoughts when arriving , outer area isn't what one would expect. Atmosphere is older Amsterdam feel. The receptionist was so very kind and helpful with arriving early , she arranged a sooner checkin . The room is good size and beds so comfy ! Added touch on our floor was a nice little kitchenet where we could make our own coffee , kettle supplied and filled water decanters . A laundry tub to wash items if needed . There is a restaurant within as well as an outdoor patio . Great location !!

Pension Homeland is a fabulous hotel with lots of local and artistic charm. There's so many cute details like the model ships on top of the elevator, the unique wall paintings, the animal display in the host stand, the twinkling lights on the building that look like the Eiffel Tower, and of course, the feline hostess Queen. I just really enjoyed the vibe of the place overall. I felt like I was on a summer euro trip in the 60's there.
The Restaurant was also really good. I would highly recommend getting breakfast there or even just a drink and a snack. They play great music and the servers are all really cool. I didn't get a chance to try the brewery but I did get to swim off the dock during the heat wave. Also a new experience for me! Btw, there wasn't AC in the building as with most of Europe so be weary of the hotter days as the rooms get very stuffy. I happen to go the week they were having temps over 30 degrees celsius.

We opted to stay here because of the proximity to the cruise ship dock. We thought we'd be able to walk to the ship, however, the cobblestone streets made that challenging with our luggage, so we opted to take a taxi.
The hotel was quite a distance from the museums in the heart of Amsterdam that we wanted to visit, making for expensive cab rides. In hindsight, I'm not sure this was the best choice for our needs.

It's a cool place in an interesting part of Amsterdam, very convenient to the Central train station with good walking and restaurants along canals for a typical Amsterdam neighborhood experience. Looking out from the room, you can see people swimming and boating and beautiful views of some modern and older buildings. It's not what most Americans would consider a typical hotel - the rooms are a bit like a college dorm or conference center (as expected). No air conditioning if that matters to you but the window opens and there was a fan and even on a hot day I was comfortable. The staff is notably friendly and helpful. I did not have a chance to eat any meals there but you can basically eat and drink all day. Definitely recommend and I will stay here again when I'm in Amsterdam.

We had a great 2 nights traveling with my husband and two daughters. This hotel is so funky and cool- off the beaten path but close enough to walk everywhere in Amsterdam. You can also sit and watch the sunset from the back deck over the water- it felt like a beautiful refuge from downtown but only a 10 minute walk. The family room was also great- really spacious, bathroom was excellent- best family room we stayed in across 4 cities on our trip. And the staff was all kind and responsive. We felt like we were really staying in an authentic place.

This is a really cool place. We had an interesting arrival, not sure if we came in the back door. It is a little strange at first, you walk into a military base that looks nothing like where a hotel will be. Once you enter and see the decor, restaurant and most of all...location to the harbor with fun activities, walks on the water, food and entertainment. We were very sorry to miss many of these activities since we only were able to stay one night. I would definitely go back and stay longer.

Our room, although dated as expected seemed pretty clean. However in the queen bed someone had slept underneath the sheets directly on the mattress cover and it had clearly not been washed. There were fresh spots of blood, hair, etc. Luckily we had booked the family room so we slept in the two single beds instead (it was just one night and we had no spare time left in our day to manage). I'm actually shocked room cleaning pulled dropped fresh sheets on this, it was clearly dirty.
So we'll give it three stars.

Gem of a hotel!
We stayed 1 night prior to boarding a river cruise. I wish we had booked for the week after the cruise as well! It seems \"out of the way\" on first impression (we walked from Central Station with luggage) but after getting oriented we realized it was in a perfect place for walking into the centre of the old town. The route felt safe, and was free of road traffic and lead directly to the Oosterdoc. The room had a very comfortable and clean queen bed and very new and easy to use shower with great water pressure. Lots of space for clothing. Good blinds kept the light out for sleeping post a transatlantic flight. There was a lovely clean sitting area where you could make tea or coffee, sit in a comfy couch and read on every floor. The hotel's decor was vibrant, artsy and nautical, and the cafe/bar had a lovely vibrant and colourful atmosphere. The hotel is situated in a park right beside the Maritime Museum which adds to its charm. They accommodated our need for luggage storage for a few hours after our stay which is always a bonus when travelling. Would stay there again at any time!

I absolutely loved this place! It has such a unique and charming atmosphere that made my stay truly special. The staff were the best—so kind, helpful, and welcoming throughout the entire day. The location is incredibly convenient, just a short walk to both buses and trains, making it easy to get around. I also loved the charming view of the canal, which added to the overall experience. The only minor downside is that the rooms are a bit older, but that didn’t take away from how lovely the stay was. Would definitely return!

We loved the location of this place. Walking distance to everything and easy to get to public transit when not. There is great park/lawn area to sit out and enjoy. The restaurant and bar got a bit loud on the Friday/Saturday night but we did not hear any of it from our room. The room was comfortable but the temperature was a bit hard to control. I can definitely see staying here next time I'm in Amsterdam. The staff was so friendly, and the room was comfortable and clean. And if you want a cozy meal, I recommend their restaurants downstairs. It was a bit of a walk from Centraal station and some of the sites but you could easily get an Uber/tram ride, but it was nice being in a more peaceful part of the city.
