Great location but not value for money

Great location with the museums close by and city centre less than 30mins walk away. However the room was cold and heating weak - not great if you're travelling in the winter like me. They did give an extra duvet on request though. Also there was damp on the wall and the bed cover had dirt on it (on the sides). Didn't get value for money and you can find better quality for similar or less elsewhere (and probably nearer to the centre)

The property was reasonable benefitcal visiting Amsterdam if you are for small business enterprises and for thise to sleep for a couple of nights. There is free wifi, television (if you want to keep with the news) and drinking facilities from 8am to 11pm, though you will need to ask the staff about it when you register within the hotel and Hotel De Muck does a fairly continental breakfast.

The location was good, close to public transport, the hotel was clean, the breakfast was great.
The only detriment was that the stairs going up to the rooms were steep. but that is to be expected of most hotels - even most tourist attractions in the area, so that can't be held against the hotel, it's the general architecture of the old city.

We were given a room covered in mould, then told to come back the next day “IF” we still wanted to swap rooms. Then we asked to change the next day and the staff (named ocean) made a big deal saying it was really inconvenient for them to swap us. We had to make a big deal and were made to feel as if we were creating a problem. It was stated breakfast would be available until 11:00, it was not. On the day of checking out someone came and tried to hurry us into checking out. Finally a friend of a member of staff came by one morning and had an inappropriate attitude and I quote “I don’t work here, I can be a little more promiscuous with the customers” all in all it was a pretty disappointing experience here and do not rate it highly for places to stay in Amsterdam. I have photo evidence of the mould on the walls and one bed in the room.

This was the cheapest hotel I could find in central Amsterdam with okay reviews. It was well located, quiet and came with free breakfast. The breakfast was largely cold with no cooked eggs, but okay. Staff were friendly.

Our room was clean and easily big enough for two people. This was because it doubled as a room for four people. Two of the four matresses in the room were broken and needed to be moved so we could sleep together.

The common areas were not clean and in a bad state of repair.

Overall, it was acceptable given the price and free breakfast, even if the price was only good comparative to elsewhere in Amsterdam (i.e. not cheap),

Stairs are dilapidated with no elevator. I couldn'tgo up them wirh my backpack on because they were so narrow and steep. The, room isn't big enough to have your luggage open AND walk by. Management accused us of having a third occupant because we had a guest stay late and charged €150. We only got one key, and when my friend was upstairs and I tried to use the buzzer (the door is locked 24/7) to get in the management literally yelled at me- even though we only got one key. Shower smelled like sewage consistently. \"Breakfast\" was cold cereal.

Great location, walking distance from Rembrandt square and tram station.
Nice staff, decent breakfastwe traveled with 3 kids, so the large room with 5 beds was very convenient.
The room condition was disappointing though, especially the reading lamps on the bed, located in an awkward place such that either your head or feet bumps into it when you lay down...

Our room was in the building adjacent to the one that housed the breakfast room. As with most hotels in Amsterdam, this one has no elevator and about a million narrow tiny stairs. We had one suitcase that was very large and heavy, and we decided to pay a hotel employee 2 euro to bring it up for us. He had to put it on his shoulders to fit it in the staircase. The outside stairs were especially treacherous, so a person with mobility issues would have a very difficult time. The room was just OK. Seemed clean, but definitely nno frills. TV was very old and not working very well.

The room promised in the main building was changed to another in a one story two roomed hut across the courtyard.
The bed had no headrest and an undersized pillow. I used my baggage to prop up the pillow.
For two out of three evenings I had noisy and unfriendly people partying outside the window.

Grandparent's treat for 17 yr old granddaughter.

The hotel probably needs a little tlc in the decorating department but the hospitality of the staff and the lovely big room outweighed the appearance. Wouldn't put me off staying here again. When on a sightseeing holiday amount of time spent at the hotel is very minimal.Due to the position of this hotel it was in the middle of all the attractions hence it was very easy to explore one area on each of our days. We stayed 3 nights but 4 full days. No problem leaving your cases as we arrived early and left late.

Great, friendly staff. Building is typical Dutch style, you can spend time at the back of the building for breakfast etc which is enjoyable. Typical Dutch staircase. I stayed in the single room with shared bathroom and it was fine, nice clean amenities. My room was big enough.

Adequate for Purposes

The best aspects of this hotel was the location and the staff. The room rate was high versus similar accommodations in places like Paris and London, but I suppose this is simply a matter of supply and demand. Staying at this hotel has physical demands on the guest, but that's what you're going to experience in a 250+ year property. There were no surprises. If I had to be in Amsterdam again, I would have no problem staying here on a return trip.

Ideal hotel in a perfect location!

Recently stayed at the Hotel over the may bank holiday, was rather dubious when looking at the outside photos as well as he distance from the centre. I went with a group of 5 boys and after a few walks we found the centre. With Maps saying it was 30 minutes we thought we would walk it, we was rather happy to discover that it was only at most 20 minutes and if you go a certain way you past all the shops and Rememberence square. Hotel room was very generous with size as well as the bathroom. Would 10/10 recommend to a friend.

The host are super feiendly!! the hotel itself is a bit old. We stayed in the quad room, the bathroom has been furnished a bit. But door knob is broken. For the peice we paid, and the service we received, it is excellent!! Supermarket literally 30 seconds walk. 2 minutes to tram. Excellent staff!!

The hotel was great for sightseeing. We were close to the taxi stop and the trolley line. The staff was very helpful with getting us directions to anywhere we wanted/needed to go. We only had the breakfast one day but it seemed OK. The room was nothing special. It could have definitely been a little cleaner. There were stains on the chair cover in the room which looked a little fresh and suspect. We just didn't sit in the chair. We only received 2 towels (no hand towels or washcloths) which for two women for 3 nights wasn't nearly enough. We did ask for and receive more.

Overall, it was a good hotel for a girls weekend where you don't plan on spending much time in the room. There is a little shop a few doors down where you can get water, snacks, wine, etc. There is a fridge in the room but no microwave.

Be warned! There are around 40+ stairs to get to the rooms on the top floors. There is no elevator and the stairs are narrow and steep. Any luggage you bring will have to be carried all the way up...and then back down when you leave.

We had a great stay here. The hotel is at a very good location, close to the main canals and De Pijp neighborhood. We walked everywhere! The breakfast was good, and the room as well (although a bit small). A supermarket is next door, which is convenient. We heard about the massive staircase, but we were on the 1st floor and it was ok.

we stayed for 4 nights for the new year events. The stay was nice and plesent, but the price was a bit high, probably because of the holiday. normaly we wouldn't pay this amount for this kind of the hotel. there was no lift. nevertheless the hotel was nice in a good and silent neighbourhood.

Reccomend, Good value for money and great location

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel, it was perfect for what we were looking for and the price we paid. Friendly staff with a very laid back atmosphere. The room was clean and warm. Breakfast severed until late morning, Supermarket pretty much next door, Free Wifi which works okay. The beds were comfortable and the location was brilliant. Very central, walking distance from almost everything, we didn't use any transport the whole trip. i would recommend this hotel as a very basic
hotel and we will certainly be staying here again

Greeted by the owner,Ryan, really helpful and friendly. Our room was up a very old staircase so if you have any impairments ask for a bottom floor room. Room was cozy, clean with a nice fireplace and cool ceiling. The bathroom was tiny, but clean, not enough towels. Breakfast was simple with okay choices. Only issue was there is a lot of noise at night, you can hear everything. Best part is location, great places to eat and close to transportation. We would go back if we want to stick to that price range.

Worst Hotel Ever!!!!!

The worst hotel I've EVER been to! You gad to got to another place to use the toilet, which was so small and congested that even a 2 year old couldn't fit in it! The bedroom was very cold, and the wasn't any heat. This was by far the worst hotel that I've ever been to.

Best customer service in AMS (comparing 4 hotels))

Convenient location to the city tram. Located in quiet residential neighborhood of Fredericksplein. Really great breakfast for EU standards. Stayed here with 70+ year old parents in 3-person room. Our receptionist was a highlight of our stay. He stored our luggage and carried it up to our 3rd story room when the room was ready to use. When he saw the steep stairs were difficult for my mother, he offered a lower level room for us when it became available the 2nd night (for the rest of our stay). He had our luggage brought there also. When we asked about anything in the city, he knew answers or would Google it for us. So helpful! 2 weeks after this stay, I came back to AMS, and this hotel wasn't available. I actually found myself missing this great service and the bright, open, airy rooms. Great place, great employees.

Comfortable and clean

This hotel is situated about a mile from Dam square and takes about 20 minutes to walk to, so it's far enough out to be cheaper than a room closer to the centre but not too far to walk to. It's right on one of the outer canal rings, and there's a regular tram service that goes through the middle of the city and to Centraal Station if you don't fancy the walk.

It's a 2 star hotel so you know what to expect, and I was very happy with my stay. The staff were very friendly on check in and gave us a map with the hotel circled on it, as we had a fair bit of trouble trying to use map apps on phones to locate it! The room was simple, clean and warm with a lovely view of canal from the window. It's very typical of buildings in Amsterdam in that it has very steep stairs, and we were on the third floor which was a bit of a struggle after a few Heinekens!

We used this room simply as a place to sleep and spent 95% of our time roaming the city until the early hours, and for that it served its purpose perfectly. The only reason I marked it down slightly on condition is that the was a fairly sizeable crack in the window, which had been sort of repaired but our host pointed it out as soon as we entered the room and it wasn't a problem during our stay.

All in all, a great place to stay if you're just looking for a basecamp on the cheap and don't fancy staying in a hostel.

Great Little Amsterdam Hotel

Great little hotel, one step up from a hostel. The location is brilliant, clean safe, quiet yet lots of bars n restaurants within 2 minutes walk; 100 metres from Tram Route 4, about 7 stops / 10 mins from Central Station. Would i stay here again - most definately.10 11 14.

Great location, hotel not so much

We stayed at Hotel de Munck for two days during the Labor Day weekend. The location is great, the beds were very comfortable but the cleanliness of the hotel was not so good. The bathrooms had mold spots all over the walls and ceilings due to lack of ventilation in the bathrooms. The house keepers that cleaned the bathrooms left hair from their towels on the walls (it was not our hair, I’m assuming it was hair from the residence next to us) Overall the hotel was ok due to location and the neighborhood that it is located in, but I will never stay there again.

My friends and I were hesitant at first because of the 2 star review, but we were in a desperate situation in terms of time so we booked anyway. I am so glad we did!! The location is superb! Just a 15 minute walk to Dam Square and the surrounding neighborhood is such a nice, quaint little place. The rooms were very clean, and cleaned every day. The beds were so comfortable and worth the price we paid. All in all, GO!

Basic hotel

This is basically a step up from a hostel, so no frills but a nice place nonetheless. The neighborhood is quite quiet and within 5 minutes walk of a street with lots of restos and bars. 15 minutes or so by foot to the city center. The breakfast is nice, basic buffet style of rolls and toast, cheeses and meats, coffee, tea, juice. The staff are friendly.

Avoid at all costs

We were charged 251 euros for a double room at this small family-run hotel, which we feel was outrageous. The place is barely above the level of quality and service of a backpacker hostel. It's shabby with mismatched carpets, grubby walls and furniture that is cheap, shoddy and possibly secondhand. Bathrooms are old with cheap fittings. All of which would be acceptable if the room cost 40 or 50 euros per night but de Munck charges over twice that amount. We had just stayed in two hotels charging the same rates (approx 120 euros per night) in Berlin that were smart, modern, aircon, with minibars, wifi, thick mattresses, thick quilts etc... everything you'd expect for that sort of money. We should have known there was something not right when the Munck management insist we pay at check-in – had we seen teh room first we would have walked and looked for somewhere else to stay.

The quality of this hotel is very poor. The value for money as well (the worse I have ever seen indeed).
1 you re asked to pay for the whole stay at arrival
2 I was in room where the smell of cooking was very strong each evening as the hotel staff was preparing his dinner near the reception.
3 the room was not heated enough. Impossible to stay in pyjamas
4 worst of all, the heating pipes were making a strong noise, preventing a good night sleep.
This hotel definitely needs to be renovated.

Friendly, thorough, relaxed check-in. Helpful staff. I got a room with its own street entrance. When I had Internet problems, a staff member brought-in his own laptop for me to use. Just a very nice place.

By the way, I highly recommend the cafe a few doors down.

Ligger utmärkt mitt i centrala Amsterdam. Rummet och badrummet var helt ok. Ta inte med någon stor resväska. Trapporna är smala och ganska branta. Det finns ingen hiss.
Allt beror på vad du önskar av ditt boende under din vistelse. Jag fick ett eget rum, en skön säng och eget badrum.

Petit déjeuner convenable avec du choix (pain, céréales, jus de fruits, oeufs, jambon, boissons chaudes ).
Chambre spacieuse.

La calefaccion del baño no funciona, es super frio, no nos cambiaron las toallas, y como hacia tanto frio seguian mojadas y frias del dia anterior, el hotel es super desordenado, habia materiales de construccion, bolsas con ropa etc por los pasillos lo que hacia dificil desplazarse por el hotel, la señal de internet mala e inestable y el desayuno con opciones muy limitadas! En general el hotel es de muy baja calidad

Sono stata ad Amsterdam dal 20 al 23 di settembre con una mia amica. L’hotel si trova a 20 minuti a piedi dal centro e ci si può benissimo muovere a piedi per tutta la città data la vita notturna ad Amsterdam. La nostra stanza era pulita e aveva il bagno privato, accogliente. Entrando nell’hotel può sembrare che non sia uno dei migliori; ma la gentilezza e il servizio fanno la loro parte. Ottimo per chi vuole soggiornare un weekend ad Amsterdam.

Vi fick ett rum i vad vi tror är personalens korridor till sin bostad. Det var väldigt väldigt lyhört och man kunde höra de gå in och ut ofta.
Personalen var väldigt trevliga och hjälpsamma. Rummet var rent och fint. Skulle rekommendera om man vill ha ett billigare boende.

Compte tenu du prix (190 €/nuit), j'étais loin d'imaginer séjourner dans un hôtel aussi médiocre.
Situé à 20mn de marche de la gare centrale dans une quartier calme.
Seul l'accueil était correct bien que très très long pour s’enregistrer et obtenir ses clés.
Au 4ème étage avec des escaliers raides et étroits, obliger de baisser sa tête au risque de ce cogner.
Découverte d'une chambre dont la moquette n'a sans doute pas été nettoyée depuis quelques années, condensation sur les trois fenêtres, salle de bain vétuste, couleur des murs plus que douteuse, serviettes sentant le mal séché....
Certaines salle de bain sont à partager.
Le petit déjeuner simple qui a juste le mérite d'exister même s'il faut souvent patienter et faire la \"queue\" dans cette salle étroite et allongée où une brocante semble s'y être logée.
Mauvaise expérience pour notre part, prix exorbitant pour la qualité/ propreté (près de 600 € pour 3 nuits)

Het is een prima slaapplek omdat het tegenovergestelde Carré ligt waar we een concert hadden. De tuin was wel erg onverzorgd. Ontbijt was prima maar niet uitgebreid. Ik miste de yoghurt bijv.

Hotellin sijainti ihan mielettömän hyvä! Kävellen pääsi nopeasti joka paikkaan ja pyörienkin vuokraaminen hotellilta sujui helposti. Maksettiin jaetusta kylpyhuoneesta, mutta saatiin sittenkin oma, mikä oli mukava yllätys! Siisteydessä olisi ehkä parannettavaa esim. Suihkuverho oli todella likainen. Muista huoneista ja ulkoa kuului paljon meteliä, mutta meitä se ei ainakaan häirinnyt. Henkilökunta kuitenkin mukavaa ja avuliasta, aamiaisen ei pitänyt kuulua hintaan, mutta kuului nyt :) Tämäkin kiva yllätys ja aamiainen oli ihan perus ok!

Très bon emplacement

Hotel très bien situé, à 2 pas du canal Amstel et des plus beaux canaux d'Amsterdam. Endroit très calme. Malheureusement, chambre miniscule et très spartiate et qui donnait sur la cour intérieure. La fenêtre laissait passer tous les bruits et j'entendais les conversations des personnes discutant dans la cour. Prix de la chambre totalement abusif pour ce que c'était.

Hotellet ligger väldigt bra till ca:10min till Rembrandt Torg. Hotellet är ok om du bara vill sova där, bra sängar, väldigt branta och smala trappor, saknar delvis ledstång. Frukost OK.

Locationg is great, a walk distance from Dam Square.

Lite hotell, med bratte, trange trapper, men romslige rom. Gode og rene senger, rent bad, men noe dårlig renhold ellers. God frokost og god service. Rolige omgivelser, med mange restauranter i nærheten. Gangavstand til alle serverdigheter.

Bra läge med kommunikationer i närheten

Gulligt hus med trevliga rum, hade kunnat vara en riktig 5-poängare om det inte var för att skicket var eftersatt. Mögelpåväxt i badrummet drog ner luftkvaliteten och helhetskänslan mycket. Men läget var bra. Frukosten ok. Bättre än 3-stjärniga hotell jag bott på i London.

hotellet var slitet, men rent. Sängen var väldigt mjuk och kudden så stor att jag inte kunde använda den. Rummet var också rätt varmt. Trevlig och hjälpsam personal. ok frukost med yoghurt, flingor, några sorters bröd, skinka och ost.

Mauvaise expérience !

Nous avons pris une chambre familiale pour deux ados et deux adultes. Le premier soir notre petit fils (17ans) s'est entaillé les pieds avec de fins morceaux de verre sur le sol de la salle de bain. Il a beaucoup saigné. J'ai été cherché la personne de garde qui m'a donné du sparadrap et des ciseaux. Mais comme il y avait du sang partout (les pieds ça saigne beaucoup) je suis retourné la voir et elle est montée passer l'aspirateur dans la salle de bain. Mais après j'ai retrouvé des bouts de verre sur la moquette dans la chambre. Le lendemain soir nous avons pu voir que le ménage n'avait pas été fait puisqu'il restait du sang sur le carrelage de la salle de bain. Au moment de partir nous avons vu le gérant et nous lui avons montré les photos et les bouts de verre. Nous avons réclamé un petit dédommagement pour le principe et pour les frais engagés pour les soins et même si le montant était ridicule le gérant ne nous a donné que la moitié du montant réclamé. Mais le plus ennuyeux c'est surtout l'indifférence pour tout ce qui s'est passé. Personne n'est venu nous voir pour s'excuser du problème. Voilà pourquoi nous n'attribuons pas de bonne note à cet hôtel.

Det var ett väldigt fint hotell överlag. Bra personal, trevlig frukost och mysig inredning. Lite gammalmodigt på sina ställen med olika variant av sängar och lite trångt i matsalen men eftersom hotellet bara har 16 (eller så) rum så blir känslan ändå mer genuin. Det var 1 minut till närmsta affär, och kanske 5-10 minuter till centrum. Det var fina restauranger i närheten och bra klubbar. Vi hade 10 minuters promenad till riksmuseet där även fler museum ligger belägna. 2 minuter till rälsbuss/spårvagn om det skulle vara ett alternativ, dock så gick vi överallt på grund av närheten. Det tog ca 20 minuter till centralen via promenad. Trevlig personal, dock ny städpersonal som inte riktigt hade koll på rutinerna. I övrigt en bra upplevelse. Depositionen man betalar får man tillbaka efter en prickfri vistelse.
