Excellent location, beautiful room with canal view. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Free drinks for 2 hours a day was amazing! Some areas of the hotel look like they could use a lick of paint, mainly the stairs, but didnt affect our stay negatively at all

We had a wonderful stay. Pilar was excellent—very kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit. The hotel is perfectly located, making it very convenient to explore the area. They also offer a fabulous complimentary cocktail hour, which was a lovely touch, and the room was very comfortable.

My only complaint was that the room was quite warm. The air conditioning was not working, although they did provide two fans that we had to use during our stay.

Other than that, everything was excellent and we truly enjoyed our time there.

The duvet had a cover that kept slipping off at night and it was covered in stains. Coffee stains, period or some random blood stains, and some yellowish ones. On the second night when the duvet cover slipped off we asked for a new one and just used that one but it was pretty gross. Other than that everyone was wonderful the staff was great and there was a cute orange cat. The view and location was also wonderful just the stains and the cleanliness was not good.

A little bit further out from the centre, so it is less hectic. 3 min walk from tram4 stop and 10 min walk to Rijksmuseum.
No getting away from the stairs so no use if you struggle as these are typical canal house - very steep & narrow.
Room clean & large.
If you book 1 of the suites , ask for canal side

The room was very cozy, clean and the staff so friendly and helpful. Stunning view to the canal and the bathroom was very spacious and enjoyable. It was a little challenging to go all the way up using the stairs. The steps were very narrow and the room was on a third floor, there is no elevator. It was manageable. I had a pleasant experience.

This hotel is on the major road! I was given #1room in the bst nice and spacious but close to the building kitchen, and noise from ppl. walking by the window and Tram on the street was too much for me, I was unable to sleep. I complained I was given another room #22 very tiny and ugly floor. That place needs to be renovated.

Hotel was clean and tidy and in a good position in the city. Breakfast was very nice. The staff were very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Overall, very pleased with the stay at the hotel. One small issue was a broken toilet seat which was reported on Sunday but not fixed before we left on Wednesday.

I was fortunate enough to spend my 60th birthday in Amsterdam.. the staff were sweet in helping me celebrate with a bottle of delicious kava and very nice birthday card.
The room was clean, breakfast amazing and so nice to taste what good coffee is like, coming from the US I have forgotten! Staff are friendly and very helpful. Will definitely be staying there again if we get back to Amsterdam.

Room not very nice at all. Very narrow with no bedside tables so can’t put anything next to you. Have to get out of bed by the bottom of the bed! Not very clean down by the side of the bed. Canal view - small porthole type windows. Pictures are over advertising the canal aspect. Room needs a good redecoration. Bathroom slightly better. Shut the bathroom door and the whole shower rail fell off. Water everywhere after a shower as shower curtain not waterproof! The only saving grace is the staff. They are lovely and very friendly and a nice touch we had a note with a gift left on the bed after a day out, clearly listened to what we had said we were doing as a trip. Also the free open bar daily was a bonus. Sadly disappointed in this hotel!

It would have been worth upgrading to a canal view room as my room faced the Main Street which was very noisy. There is no lift and very narrow stairs make heavy suitcases difficult. There is no aircon so my room was very hot.

We enjoyed a beautiful view of the canal. Our room was spacious for 3 people and the bathroom was quite large. We didn't mind walking up the stairs. The staff were amazing and always available to help us. The lounge offered drinks and snacks from 4-6 that made our stay enjoyable. I would highly recommend staying here.

The Wi-Fi in the room we were in did not work very well at all to the point it was not usable that was in room 110.
The price point we thought was quite exorbent for the hotel room and the breakfast option.
It should be noted about the stairs if anybody has a mobility problem it would be an issue for them to get up to the floors they could be worded better in the description of the hotel of how steep they are.

It's in a traditional Amsterdam building, so it's tall and thin with steep stairs. The staff were able to get us the ground floor room we needed and were kind throughout.
There is a nice view of the canal from the terrace at the back.
Staff were helpful.
Area is really good for trams and walkable to the Van Gogh museum

Very cute tiny hotel with super welcoming and kind staff.

I will say that there are a few big downsides - the main one being that the toilet in our room had a clear glass door, which was uncomfortable. The fixtures in our room were a bit worn out and some parts of the room felt like they could’ve been a bit cleaner.

That being said, the hospitality at this hotel is amazing. The staff were so kind and welcoming, and there is a free happy hour and a cute little terrace outside that is open all hours. The staff let us stay on the terrace even after we had checked out, and they let us check out late for free because my friend had been sick the night before and wasn’t able to get much sleep.

Really the main thing that stopped this from being a four star review is that the price is the bathroom door situation - we basically ended up using the downstairs bathroom the entire time, which can only be accessed by going outside and was kind of inconvenient. In the grand scheme of things it’s not a huge deal, but it feels like such an easy thing to fix by adding a privacy screen or something. I don’t take points off for things outside of the hotel’s control (ie, outside noise etc) but this is something that is definitely within the hotel’s control and I think having some more privacy would’ve made our stay more comfortable.

Very friendly staff in a good location. Staff were attentive and fixed problems quickly. Nice view of the canals.

The free bar and snacks each afternoon was very handy!

However, the air conditioning did not work properly, so they provided us with a portable air conditioning unit. This didn’t work very well which meant we needed to sleep with windows open, therefore letting noise and mosquitoes in to room.

The bathroom is also not very private, as the partition is made up of privacy glass.

We stayed with our older teenage children. We all stayed in the same room which had 2 double beds. The smaller double was squeezed into a very small room which meant the second person had to climb over the first to get in and out of bed. Just not very convenient. This room would probably work for three people, but not 4.

We were welcomed four hours early and told our room was ready before time, which we found delightful after a long journey from London. The area around the hotel was very quiet, interjected by noise from neighbouring students who were welcoming in the new term!!l Breakfast was tasty but minimal hot food available. A lovely hotel, recommended for good local transport links and a supermarket within 5 minute walk.

Lovely hotel, let down by broken air conditioning. With substitute noisy portable unit that was inadequate for the room size and so noisy it affected sleep. When we asked when it was to be fixed the response was “we have been waiting six months”. No opportunity to move. Great location walking distance to centre. Room was nice but not serviced unless asked. Outside of AC would have been great but very pricey for what is offered.

The hotel is full of contradictions . The staff is very helpful ,great customer focus and nice, the building is not in good shape, the hallways look old and a the carpet is dirty. The bathrooms are fairly new and in good shape but the beds are like a cot with a top mattress the pillows extremely high and uncomfortable, we had a bad night. Also I was surprised that one day before we checked in I got an email informing me that the hotel did not have elevator nor air conditioner. We had to carry large heavy bags in a tight staircase to our rooms and in the summer Amsterdam is hot, which is expected but learning about these two things a day before check in instead of when booking was dissapointed. I think Expedia should have the information when booking and not afterwards.

Room 15 was a great room for myself enjoyed the happy hour with complimentary drinks and snacks. Great access to filtered still and sparkling water, teas and coffee. The nights from Tuesday to Wednesday were wonderfully quiet and peaceful, making for a restful stay. However, things changed dramatically on Thursday. The surrounding neighbours were quite loud, and their music could be heard clearly past 10 PM. This made for a less relaxing evening.

Overall, the hotel itself is good, but potential guests should be aware that noise levels can vary significantly depending on the day of the week. Good location away from the tourist hotspots.

Staff were great and got us into our room early so we could rest before heading out. The hotel is old and a true Amsterdam row house so if you can’t do stairs then request a room on main floor. Rooms were cute, comfy beds. Bathrooms are small but expected that. Air conditioning recently installed so that was a plus! The happy hour was a great way to unwind after a busy day exploring the city. Breakfast was very good with lots of options. Really enjoyed our stay!

Great Location, needs improvements

The location of this hotel is great, and the back patio is right on the canal and pairs very well with the daily open bar. However, the place was falling apart in several ways. I was in a room on the top floor (canal view) which was technically true but the position and sizes of the windows didn't really afford a good view. One of the shower heads was in disrepair (the handheld still worked), an electrical outlet was literally falling apart, the air conditioning didn't work for a time, and the front door key entry didn't work one night, though the attendant was there to let me in. I brought up these issues and asked to change rooms which wasn't possible due to capacity and I was offered a free breakfast. In return I asked for free breakfast every day and I think they said yes but I wasn't eating breakfast there anyway, I was going to a neighborhood bakery and a place called \"locals\" which was good. I thought the cleanliness of the room could have been improved too. I wasn't overly bothered by the condition and I'm not too picky, I still had a great time, and, like mentioned earlier, the canal-side patio, open bar, and location made it worthwhile. But the place WAS falling apart, or at least my room was.

My friend and I stayed here the first night of a three-night reservation, and we had to leave early because the room was just so hot. The window could barely open to get airflow. I called the receptionist to ask for a fan or something to increase airflow and ventilation, but they said that they don’t and they encouraged me to open the window as much as possible because the room gets hot. The fact they knew how hot the room gets and they continue to rent it out without describing that upfront is inhumane. I attached a picture of how little the window opens. If you care about your health, do not stay here.

Air conditioning was not working 2 nights of my 3 night stay. Some electric outlets not working. No lift when staying on third floor is rough. Multiple television channels not coming through. Young staff that seem to be trying but not up to the task. Location was good. Not a terrible place but would not recommend. Free happy hour was nice. Lesson: you get what you pay for.

This is a typically quaint traditional Amsterdam hotel, with steep stairs (no lift) and canal views (from some rooms).
It's currently under renovation and needs some updating but rooms are having air conditioning fitted and the lobby has had an update which looks much more professional.
The staff are all really lovely and helpful and any issues quickly and efficiently dealt with.
So for any prospective visitors bear in mind that it is a project under way, but at the end of the day, it's a place to sleep when visiting and the rooms are comfortable.
A major plus is the daily FREE 'Happy Hour' (16.00 - 18.00) with beer, wines, coffee and snacks provided.
Would we go back, most certainly!

Charming hotel but not for everyone

The Amsterdam Canal Hotel boasts a fantastic location and beautiful historical charm. The staff were genuinely nice, which was a definite plus. However, our stay was significantly impacted by a broken air conditioning unit, leaving the room uncomfortably hot with no effective solution offered beyond opening windows. The bed also wasn't the most comfortable. While the building's historical aspect is lovely, the overall decor felt quite outdated.

Do not stay here. There were bed bugs in the room and we had to leave in the middle of the night. We were bit and our bags were effected. They would not refund us for it. The room had a broken ac unit that was leaking onto the floor and the open window left the room noisy and let more bugs in. We lasted roughly 3 hours in the hotel before leaving. Do not stay here

Great location, easy to access all areas of the city either on foot or using the public transport system.

Room was clean and tidy, however it was located in the basement which fronted the main road. Access to the room was right next to the breakfast area. It was called a deluxe room. Unfortunately that was not an accurate description at all. Two single b ds pushed together with a mattress topper finishing off the ensemble. Evertime we left the room we would literally bump into someone grabbing food. Not ideal at all.

The best of the hotel is its location. The subway is in walking distance; it is close to the museums. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and gave good advice about the city. There is a happy hour in the hotel with free drinks between 4pm and 6pm every day. The stairs to the rooms are steep; you need to be able to navigate them.

We stayed here for only 2 nights and if we were to stay longer we would have cancelled. The air conditioner did not work and we were on the top floor. It was way too hot to sleep. They provided a fan which did not do much. We had to keep the window open to make it bearable but the area is so loud at night we did not sleep a wink the entire time. The afternoon bar with wine and snacks was nice. However I would not stay here again if the A/C is not working. They should not be booking the rooms with no A/C. Very disappointing.

We had a wonderful view of the canal from our window. The breakfast in the morning was very handy and the eggs cooked to order were good. There was a rare heat wave (high of 87 F) and the air conditioning was fantastic. The room was cramped for 2 people ( sit on bed to use laptop) and the bed a bit lumpy and hard. Overall very pleasant.

Used the dehumidifier it put out hot air but more cool then hot and opened window but loud outside. We would stay here again but ask to stay on first floor. Honest review is that hotel needs renovation. The property is very run down.
Not the cleanest and the cherry on top is the paper thin walls. Unless you like listening to other guests walking around, talk and others, sure. Unfortunately this hotel is not for me.

Charming well-priced property located in two townhouses that back directly on a canal, in an exceptionally lovely neighborhood close to the metro and Rjiksmuseum. Rooms on the back facing the canal feel as though they could be in the country (others feel much more urban). Look for the wonderful two room suites. Happy Hour is a great touch and is free. However continental breakfast, which isn’t, is rather skimpy. This feels more like a guest house than a fancy hotel. There are no elevators. And some bathrooms have frosted glass walls which might not work for everybody.

Interesting property and we did enjoy our stay for the most part. The thing I didnt like is that we were given a room in the basement next to the breakfast area. It faced the street and was very noisy at night. I also didn't love the whole glassed in shower and toilet area, no privacy st all in there.

The room is so tiny. The air conditioner is not strong enough to cool the room down. The electric fan that was provided was so dusty. The bathroom counter is dirty upon arrival and stained. Also, it was not stated on the website that the stairs are so steep and unfortunately, we were put on the third floor which makes it very difficult for us to go up and down each day. I requested to be transfered to the first floor and we were told they were going to follow with us the next day, but there was no follow up.

Two days before our checkin the hotel notified me that there was no elevator. It was too late for me to find other accommodations as I was already away. The stairs are narrow and steep, with very small risers. They were hard to negotiate with a suitcase. The hallway and stairs in the hotel needed a good vacuuming.
Upon entering the room, the curtains were partially torn from the window and hanging down.
The bathroom is about 30 inches from one side of the bed. The wall and door of the bathroom are glass, the door slides. The glass is only partially opaque. Any noise/odors emanating from the bathroom are heard/smelled in the bedroom. The bathroom door came off its runner and my husband fixed it. There is a full length mirror only in the shower. The sink basin is chipped. The opaque part of the walls do not cover the entire shower area.
Although it was cold outside the room was sweltering. We had the fan on the entire time we were there. I could not tell if the heat was on or not, we turned the system off. We were told there was no A/C.
There was always grit on the floor, even after I complained.

The location was very good,the bed comfortable ,the staff were quite nice and the breakfast buffet was very good .
However my room was in poor condition with light fittings hanging off the walls and the table about to collapse when touched. It was looked like it hadn’t had a coat of paint or a ‘deep clean ‘ in many years. As it was the last room available when I booked, perhaps the other rooms were in better condition.
The carpets in the communal areas would also benefit from a thorough clean.

I had an excellent stay here! As a solo traveler I felt safe and welcomed. The area was perfect distance from everything and the staff were very helpful. The patio view of the canal alone is enough reason to book again!

While I enjoyed that hotel is in a very old building, I wish I knew earlier there is no elevator, the steps were very narrow.

Great quiet hotel stay!

We really enjoyed our stay ❤️ we got the canal view room and it was so nice to just have the window open to a pretty quiet canal below. We were allowed to leave bags with the front desk to go explore until our room was ready. Luckily our room was ready early so we got to check in. The downside is this hotel has no elevator so if you brought a big suitcase, that would be quite the exercise up the flights of stairs. The room was clean, the mattress was a little thin for my taste but the pillows made up for it. Walking distance to the Rijksmuseum or the metro station for an easy trip into the city center. Overall i would definitely stay here again.

Nice location

Really comfortable bed & pillows and nice decor. Lovely big bath & nice toiletries and liked the bonus yoga mat hidden in the wardrobe.

We were lower ground floor and the trams start quite early but we still slept OK but one of us uses earplugs.

Nice location with lots of restaurants nearby and not far from a big grocery store.

Staff were really friendly and we could drop our bags off prior to check-in and also on our day of departure which was really handy.

Yes we'd go back again as it was in a location that we liked and we had a lovely stay.
