We did not receive the room we paid for. We booked a Deluxe Suite but after one night were forced to move due to renovations and were downgraded in a much smaller room. The hotel is clearly mid-renovation with construction starting at 7 AM daily and repeated loss of hot water, making the stay very disruptive.

The most frustrating part has been the complete lack of management response. We were told multiple times someone would contact us about compensation, but despite several follow-ups over 5 days no one ever did and the issue remains unresolved.

This hotel should not have been open to guests during such substantial renovation work.

The staff was very friendly in difficult conditions as the hotel was horrendous. The room was super tiny with no wardrobe, cupboards and no kettle, it was impossible to walk around the bed as it was so close to the wall at both ends.
The TV and the heating did not work.
There is also a full on building refurbishment going on which makes it very difficult to get to and from the room, and it’s unsafe.
There is no bar and no breakfast, I left after one night and am expecting a refund, it’s a terrible place to stay.

The room is relatively spacious. However it's not very soundproofed and the mattress kept sliding to one side. What's more disappointing was the staff didn't mention they have a renovation going on. Workmen put their equipment right outside our room, making it very difficult to get in and out of our room.

It was SO loud. All night. From every single direction. Street noise, late night party people coming and going, stairs, adjacent rooms- you name it we could hear it all. There must be zero insulation in the building. We booked bc it looked so cute on line, the room we got looked nothing like those- it was just a room next to the luggage storage. It was clean, and comfortable bed- but disappointed with the lack of character and lack of sleep was brutal.

Good place to stay. Big room, comfy beds, nice bathroom, balcony, modern lighting and clean as a whistle. The building is old and the elevator is tiny and old-school, but it all works and it has a lot of character. The arcade games at reception and the Magic cards in the lift gave it a unique feel.The hotel looks onto a park across a busy road, and the area around it is busy but with not a lot happening right by the hotel, which kept the environment fairly quiet. It's an old building so there were lots of creaks and bumps from other guests, and some nights were noisy as guests came back singing and thumping around, but we got sone good quality sleep. The towels were plentiful and clean, and there was a nice choice of toiletries. We'd stay here again, it's well-located and comfortable, and the rooms were nice.

Hotel staff were lovely, we arrived early and they allowed us to store our luggage and we were able to explore the city right away!

Really loud, really hot, we booked the double room but it didnt look like the pictures at all and was exceptionally small. No hot water one morning, and the room was never cleaned (but clearly the cleaners had access to our room seeing as they left cleaning product in it one day). Was told upon arrival it was transitioning to a boutique hotel, which is as the online information suggested - but was very much not there yet.

Awesome hip spot !

This place was great! Staff was very friendly and the price for the room was spot on for Europe. Coffee and pastries just a few min. walk away. A beautiful park across the street. Several restaurants with in walking distance too. If you are a light sleeper, request an off street room. Noisy allllllll night. Nothing that ear plugs can't cure :)

Very unique hotel in Amsterdam, extremely close to city centre around 3 stops with the metro. Only downside is that there was one specific member of staff named Julien who was extremely rude, when asked if we could retrieve our luggage from the storage room he told us to wait, we was already running on a tight schedule he made us wait 20 minutes whilst he sat with his feet up on his desk having a conversation on his mobile phone with someone, in my opinion this is unacceptable and very rude. Hotel is VERY noisy in the mornings so if you don’t like being woken up with noise in the early hours probably best to pick another hotel.

Very cool & hip property! Rooms were spacious and equipped with fun self-controlled multi-colored LED lights and video game systems. Breakfast deal was well worth the money as was the late checkout option. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Located across from a beautiful park and close to transportation options or pleasant walk to many tourist attractions. Heated towel rack and rain shower head in the bathroom were also pretty awesome.

The coolest hotel in Amsterdam

I've never been someone who wants to remain in my hotel when I travel - but this place is the exception. The room I stayed in (the love shack) was basic but comfortable and had plenty of storage for my bags. The place was a bit noisy but earplugs were provided free of charge.

The location is perfect for navigating the city: you can walk to the centre of the city in half an hour. Plenty of public transport options too - or you can rent a bike from the hotel, which is a great idea. There are plenty of great places to eat nearby and the park is beautiful.

The staff at the Arcade Hotel are incredibly friendly and helpful, there is a great selection of video games to play (and comics to read!), and the kitchen served some of the best food I ate during my visit to Amsterdam. There is also a very friendly cat who hangs out too :)

I would definitely return here - if you've seen the sights of the city and want a chilled out but exciting place to stay, this is the place. Don't miss out!

This is a cool spot. It was a little too mature for a 9 year old and a 5 year old. Lobby was smoky and clientele was older with few families around. Staff was very helpful and accommodating, but the 2 video game consoles in our room didn’t work, which was a bummer because it could not be fixed the day of our stay. Breakfast was awesome for 10 Euro. I’d stay again under different circumstances.

I stayed in the superior room- the title is misleading, this was a basic double at best. The console wasn’t working (it seems no one had bothered to check before check in) and the bathroom door was also broken. Both had to be fixed upon our arrival- not a great start. No apology provided. No tea/coffee making facilities or safety deposit box in the room. Bed was comfortable enough.

Avoid the breakfast like the plague- of the extensive list shared via email ads ahead of my stay- only half was actually served. The hot food that was served was cold. When I complained there was no apology or explanation.

Fine if you are looking for essentially something than a hostel with games thrown in (oh, you have to pay to use the games room!). Wouldn’t recommend.

Room was dirty. My socks each day would get a little more disgusting. There were red ants crawling around. My pillows smelled used and when I asked for the pillow cases to be changed they looked at me like I was nuts and didn’t do anything about it.

If you like to ever sleep, don’t stay here. People are up all night and walls are paper thin. You can hear the elevator all night. If you’re in the back of the building, I hope you like listening to screaming children at recess at 10am.

Beds are slabs of rock. We are both having back issues since coming back.

Great location and amazing theme, needs cleaning.

Had a great stay and would definitely recommend to others! That being said, the bedding was sour smelling and the floor was not perfectly cleaned. The game system in room and the free video game rental was awesome and I loved being close to a park with workout gear in it. While the room was cramped, it is on par with what I'd expect from a building that old. Shower was amazing and the location was perfect to walk into town from (might be too far if you're not a frequent walker/bike rider). Overall good but not amazing spot to stay at.

Cool hotel!

Such a cool hotel in a great location. Close to many cafes, bars, restaurants, supermarkets and independent shops. The Metro 52 (Zuid) is 3 minutes from the hotel which you get from Amsterdam Central Station and the tram number 3 stops on Sarphatipark while number 4 tram stops 4 minutes away so lots of choices. The staff were all wonderful and extremely helpful. The breakfast was well worth the fee. The smiling ladies who prepared and served breakfast each day did an amazing job! Our room was very small but it was okay for our stay as we only needed a bed to sleep in at the end of a day. Was disappointed with there not being a full length mirror in our room and the shower cubicle was a bit tight. The Arcade is in a quiet location opposite Sarphatipark which is a gorgeous park to explore along with the many others in Amsterdam. We stayed previously when it was formally the Aalborg Hotel and intend to return to the Arcade on our next trip.

Neat hotel. Good decor. Great vibe to the place. I only wished I could have stayed longer to make the most of it. The surrounding area is lovely. A park just opposite with lots of cafes, restaurants and burger bars used by the locals. Easy tram and train to the rest of the city or a really enjoyable walk.

The hotel is in a lovely location, near to the metro and walking distance to the museum square. It balances being a hotel for retro and current videogames with smart and modern rooms. My room was quite small (but I knew that when I booked), but perfectly fine for me. Reception staff were helpful and friendly and its a great base to explore Amsterdam from, or sit and enjoy the big retro gaming library they have.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. It's in a great part of the city, and it's really easy to get to the trams/buses and trains. Beyond that, there is no good reason to stay here, unless you're out of other options. The amenities are practically non-existent, so don't expect anything beyond some hand soap and body wash, in the bathroom. Plus, the shower had no curtain or door (what kind of \"design\" this is, I do not know), which meant it practically flooded the bathroom, with each use. The hotel was also extremely noisy, with kids running in the halls, yelling, stomping on the floors above, etc. But, since there are no phones in the rooms, there's no concierge or anyone to call about any issues. Similarly, when the TV in the room didn't work (which was daily -- major glitches/issues that prevented it from even being functional), there wasn't really anyone to call for help.

Claustrophobic rooms with no proper bright light in the bathroom. Breakfast buffet very poor and not enough for all the guests that came for a breakfast at the same time. Sad to say, me and my friend we did not like this hotel. It's better to spend some extra money and stay somewhere else.

HOTEL WITH HOSTEL FEEL AND STAFF WITH ATTITUDE

Arrived at the hotel £450 for 3 night stay.
We settled into the hotel room which we discovered had stained bed sheets. We complained to the hotel reception and was met with attitude and a poor apology. maintenance man who clearly was the make shift housekeeper.
The mattress was flipped over and replacement bed sheets applied.
The room was very basic and the whole place had a hostel feel to it with no tea/ coffee/ water, scuffed walls, poor lighting and uncomfortable bed with obviously very little spent on furnishings for the room.
At roughly £150 per night and not even a complimentary bottle of water, very poor from a hotel that isn’t even in the heart of the city.

This hotel was suitable for a quick trip to Amsterdam. It’s not “too” far from the action, and the video game vibe is cool. The rooms are very, very small, and the bathroom isn’t really separate from the living area. It’s a step above a hostel. Also, when doors open they slam close, which can keep you up all night. The first two guys at reception were super chill. I’d consider staying here again.

Our stay at the Arcade Hotel was fine, but extremely overpriced for what it was. The room was comfortable enough but smelled bad, as if they don't properly clean in between guests. Neighborhood was very nice, definitely recommend this location but a different establishment. We had originally booked this hotel at a lower, more reasonable price - then they cancelled our reservation with no warning, saying that the price was actually higher for that weekend. We still rebooked as there were no other hotels available by the time they cancelled our reservation. We asked the receptionist for good restaurants in the neighborhood and she suggested McDonalds. I don't recommend this hotel unless you really don't have any other options.

A really nice & honest hotel

I spent this weekend in the Arcade Hotel and everything was exactly as described and more.

The hotel in general is what you would expect for its star category, the room was clean and with a very very comfortable bed, what made an impression was the staff, really friendly, helpful and happy.

The location is good, next to a park, various cafe/bars & in a walking distance from the centre (15-20 min).

In summary, i would stay there again for holidays and suggest it to friends.

Nice boutique hotel with a fun gaming theme in a lovely quiet area close to a park, restaurants and bars. We stayed three nights over a really hot weekend but the room didn’t have air con so a few uncomfortable sleeps. Room had its own retro games machine and big screen tv although tv reception wasn’t great but loads of other media options and games room downstairs. Could have also done with water/ kettle in room although bar was open 24hrs. Friendly reception team and close to museum area and big street market so perfect for us as we were out most for most of the stay.

Staff were friendly and really welcoming. The lobby had old retro gaming machines as well as a more modern room. this room was particularly impressive.
My room was on the 4th floor and was tiny. bet was super noisy and smelt of smoke despite being a non smoking room. It was very noisy and I could hear people two rooms down due to thin walls. I did not sleep well at all.
A friend had a different room that was huge and very well decorated. I was very jealous.

Great, quirky, cheap hotel.

The Arcade was a real find- friendly, cheap, clean and an easy walk to the city centre. All the staff were very friendly, there was a massive gaming room and bookshelves full of comics: Geek Heaven! The room was clean and quiet, with a great shower. It's not top-end, but it's not top-end prices either. I'll definitely be back whenever I go to Amsterdam.

Quiet hotel in great location

This little hotel is located just across from Sarphatipark in a quiet but super accessible street in De Pijp. Rooms are small but well laid out with big comfy beds and comparatively spacious private bathroom. Location is everything and is walkable to tons of restaurants, shops, bars, museums, and more. Didn't play any videogames but there is a cute, peaceful garden in back as well as a little bar open 24/7.

This was such an amazing place to place to stay at! All of Amsterdam is within walking distance. Also, the unique gaming set up made for a relaxing night after a long day of walking through the city. Would love to stay here again!

A unique hotel experience

My husband and I are big gamers so when we saw the arcade hotel we knew we had to check it out. first off, it’s in a great part of town (de pijp) with easy access from amsterdam centraal. the decor is great, the staff is wonderful, and they’re seeious about their games. old consoles and a computer room with great setups. we were able to play overwatch with our friends back home seamlessly. the room was comfortable and clean and there was an nvidia console we got a lot of use from.

next fime we come to amsterdam, we will def stay here again.

Awesome Arcade

This hotel was awesome! It is neat that there are video game systems in the rooms with free game rentals. We had four people in a room with two bunks and they were very comfortable. The room was nice and spacious with great lighting from the windows and also black out curtains that were very effective for sleeping. The only negative thing would be that there was not air conditioning in the room so I wouldn't recommend the hotel for the high temperature times of the year. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The bar area is open 24 hours as well which was nice.

Unique hotel

The hotel is unique. Very friendly and informal greeting at check-in. The lobby is packed with old school consoles and videogames you bring into your room. The bar is open 24/7. Rooms are really small, as they honestly mention on their website. However if all you need is a bed to sleep and a tv for some recreation it suffice. Very nice area, out of the tourist traps of Amsterdam Centrum.

Friendly staff and delicious breakfast

Arcade Hotel was great! The staff was so friendly and helpful the whole time we were there, the breakfast was delicious and had a lot of good options, and you can play video games with whatever you order from the bar. How can you beat that? The room was small, but really well thought out with the layout. Plus, it's a European city - everything is small there, and it's larger than some other rooms we've stayed in (looking at you, Paris). I would absolutely stay here again.

Very unique hotel.

I went with two other girls which was perfect as they have rooms for 3 which most hotels don’t. It is a perfect distance from everywhere you need to be. Staff were amazing, they even let us check in early as our flight was in the am. Perfect hotel can not fault it.

Fun hotel with friendly staff and a good location

The Arcade Hotel was so fun to stay at - on top of having video consoles in the room, there was also games in the reception area and a specific gaming room that we could use. We had a great stay, and the location was good too.

Amazing staff, great family hotel

I have to admit I was a bit worried I had booked my family (children aged 13 and 10) into a bit of a \"young persons'' pad, especially reading some of the other reviews. Our family room was fairly basic (no kettle, but to be fair I didn't ask reception for one), and clean-ish (but I am ocd about cleaning and a vinyl floor is hard to keep spotless!). We paid for breakfast, which was a help yourself buffet with lots of options and was excellent. The location was great, a 5 minute walk from the tram, which took 10 mins to get into central Amsterdam. However, I have to say the hotel came into its own the following evening when my 10 yr old discovered the vr game!! and the staff couldn't be more helpful!! They set my son up with the headset explaining what he had to do, and in next to no time he was in his element!! The staff (especially Ben) were fantastic, setting up different video games for my children, while we sat with them in the games room chilling with a beer from the bar (which Ben even brought in to us in the games room!). Other adult guests were using the pc's, so I was worried that serious gamers would be annoyed with a 10 yr old in the room, but it was the opposite, they too enjoyed his enthusiasm! It was lovely to have somewhere to relax with a drink in the evenings, while the children enjoyed the vast selection of games and consoles etc. So thank you Arcade Hotel, you really made our stay!

Overall room was clean and was a good place to stay for a couple. However the bathroom door did not shut properly so you needed to be quite comfortable with your partner to use the loo.

short but sweet

Stayed here for 2 nights over NYE, Can’t fault it really it served its purpose of a stop and go hotel with a little extra to it (being the game consol’s).
Clean rooms, strange lift and friendly staff.

Staying for 1-3 nights is enough, would recommend it to friends for sure!
