The lobby is lovely, slightly misleading. Rooms are slightly dated now, dusty, window didn't lock properly so the blind slammed/ be aware if you face the street its noisy at night- asked to move and they couldn't move us. For the price it's not worth it. Be prepared to lug luggage up four flights of stairs/ lift doesn't work and even if it did it fits one person- claustraphobically small. Good location though- that's the only perk.

Had to ask to move rooms as the first one had a leaking radiator. Reception did so in a manner that suggested it was our fault.
The pictures on .com draw you in, but they suggest the hotel is nice than it is. I'd say massively overpriced and the quality of some elemnts - for example, the carpets in the common areas - is more a hostel standard. Lift is tiny and very poor if you have lots of luggage. I'd definitely return to Amsterdam, but not Hotel V.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was basic but as described. The lobby and bar/restaurant area was nicely decorated, if a little rough around the edges. Unfortunately the lift was out of order on arrival, so we had to climb the very steep stairs with our cases. (The lift was repaired the following day.)
Sadly, the rooms really let this hotel down. I've read plenty of negative reviews about the dungeon-like basement rooms but we booked a standard double, so had hoped for better. Our room was small and oddly shaped, the lighting is poor and in particular needs a light near the wardrobe and mirror. The room was clean but unfortunately it was very cold on arrival. This is mainly due to the poor condition of the windows, which are incredibly draughty. We used bathroom towels to block the worst draughts. The bed was reasonably comfortable but there was a dip in the middle which I kept rolling into. The pillows were huge, and plump - which I appreciated. There were two reading lights attached to the head board but neither worked. The safe also didn't work due to a low battery. There was a kettle and capsule coffee maker but unfortunately no cups or mugs provided. The toilet/shower room seems like it has been decorated more recently, so looks fine. However, there is only half a shower screen so it is impossible not to flood the rest of the bathroom when showering. Also, it could do with more shelving for guests to put their toiletries on.

The room was spotless, but you literally can see the people walking and gym across the window, the room is ground level you might hear people walking and talking right outside. However everything else is great. Nearby tram and Albert Cuyp market, and De Pijp! Fun location.

the staff was great and the location was amazing. our room had an odor that came from the bathroom. i hesitated to mention it hoping it would go away but it persisted. i think it’s one of the sewage drains, it smelled like rotting mold or dirty sewage in the bathroom which made it difficult to use it as often as was needed. we made due with what we had and appreciated the customer service. I wish the room was vacuumed. a lot of dust accumulated under the bed.

The room did feel neglected: the blinds didn’t work, the layout was awkward and there were noises coming from the radiator. The staff were friendly and amenable, but for our two nights whilst we were there, the hot water wasn’t working meaning that we had to take cold showers. There wasn’t any prior warning about this, and it was only after enough people mentioned it at the reception that this was then communicated to the guests. After the water had been fixed the first time, the hot water broke a second time. We were promised some compensation for this, but we weren’t able to get cash because we booked via Expedia. The reception said they’d give us compensation through the app, but we haven’t received anything yet.

I’ve stayed at this hotel four times now, and unfortunately each stay has been worse than the last. I’ve tried all room types, and strangely the more expensive the room, the poorer the experience.
Most recently, we stayed in the loft, which clearly hadn’t been cleaned or properly turned over. The room was dusty, poorly maintained, and the kitchenette was dirty. The fridge smelled and hadn’t been cleaned at all. We had to request housekeeping to come back and re-clean several areas. While they did what they could, the room still wasn’t at an acceptable standard.
On our second night, we kept hearing noises and eventually discovered a mouse running through the room. We had to leave at 2 a.m. to switch rooms. When we informed the night receptionist, his response was, “What do you want me to do, its Amsterdam” accompanied by a smirk. He did move us after we insisted on not returning to the loft, but the room we were given was also dusty and poorly maintained.
Sadly, this seems to be the direction the hotel is heading. My stay in August was already showing similar issues, minus the mouse and overall the standards have dropped significantly over the past year. I was a big fan of this hotel and have made several recommendations after this stay I will not be returning.

In conclusion I would recommend you stay in a bigger chain hotel who maintain cleaning standards and don’t use the excuse of mice in the city to excuse mice in your room.

Where do i begin? The moment i came in, i was met with a gracious host behind the desk, who ensured that my room was accessible via elevator since i had 2 large luggage pieces. The next day, the other attendant was full of advice on where to go and how to get there..she even gave me free dutch chocolate! My last two days, i had breakfast in the hotel and boy was I pleasantly surprised! Freshly made scrambled eggs, delicious fruit, warm breads and great coffee!

The room that i got was on the small side because i was a solo traveller, but i really enjoyed the fact that there was a balcony.

Overall, I was truly satisfied!

This hotel benefits from a great location and a pleasant neighborhood, and the lounge area is genuinely inviting. However, the rooms themselves could use significant improvement. They are quite small and feel outdated, with a very compact bathroom and an overly soft, uncomfortable bed. The lighting is dim to the point that it's difficult to see clearly inside the room. Additionally, the lift is extremely small-just enough space for one person and a bag. With some thoughtful updates, this property has the potential to be much more comfortable.

While the location and was good, the “upgrade” room was overall a bit dingy-and, quite frankly-the two twin beds that were pushed together to make a double was completely unsleepable. Add in that I could not get housekeeping to service room for over two days and it just wasn’t worth it. Too many other options out there.

Yes, the basement rooms are small-ish but you can see that from the pics when you book. If you’re doing a long weekend stay eg. Friday-Monday you’ll be fine

Room was clean, cozy, comfy and had a great shower

Only minor complaint was we never had house keeping as the cleaners kept coming to our room around 4pm when we were getting ready and I’d usually expect house keeping to happen in the morning.

Would 100% recommend and stay again :)

This is an older, very basic hotel, but in expensive Amsterdam, a reasonable price for what it is. The room was clean and adequate and the staff were responsive to deal with issues such as the bathroom sink draining sluggishly and problems with the room safe. Good location for restaurants, shopping, near museum quarter, with a trolley line right in front.

The hotel is in a great location close to the trams. Rooms are clean but very small. There is a self service breakfast for an additional fee of 17 Euros. Lots of pastries, fruit, meat, cheeses, and scrambled eggs. Chef who served breakfast was not friendly, maybe because the hotel seems short staffed. One
day I arrived one hour before breakfast ends, they were out of scrambled eggs and was told he wouldn’t make any more. Overall ok.

Wonderful Hotel.

Upon arrival, I was given a room on the third floor without an elevator. I explained that I couldn't go up or down stairs, and they kindly moved me to a room on the second floor with an elevator.

This room is very spacious and bright, with large windows and a balcony. Perfect. I loved it.

All the staff were very kind and friendly, helping me whenever I needed it.

The lobby is very spacious, comfortable and cozy, and one can spend a pleasant time there.

The hotel is very well located and very well connected.

The only thing that wasn't optimal was the room cleanliness. It seemed like they only made the bed and didn't clean anything. In fact, they left the already dirty glasses and wet and used towels without replacing them with clean ones.

Another thing that wasn't right was that the desk lamp, coffee maker, and kettle had any place to plug, so I couldn't use them.

But the bathroom hygiene products, such as shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, shower gel, and body moisturizer, are of excellent quality. Only the toilet paper wasn't up to the same standard.

Despite the inconveniences I mentioned, I plan to return to that hotel with my family because I believe those problems can be resolved by talking to the front desk staff.

They are all lovely, I really liked them and I loved the hotel.

I had a wonderful time there and I felt safe and at home.

This hotel has amazing customer service. Perfect location. The British woman at the desk provided top notch service and went above and beyond. The hotel also has one of the most comfortable lounges we have seen and it invites you to hang out. The basement rooms are more humble than the others, but are clean and have lots of style. We would definitely stay at this Hotel V again.

The first room that had been assigned to us was tiny. We struggled to get both of us and 3 suitcases in the room. The room had window aspects on two sides on ground level with badly fitted curtains. The room smelt nasty. We were offered a better room and then upgraded the next day to a bigger room. It was very dark. Awful lighting. Having explained that I was gluten and dairy free, the staff went out of their way to accommodate me. Could not fault the breakfasts.

I was disappointed with the hotel considering i paid £600 for a standard room.
Room was very small, the bathroom was very small, in the shower the water goes everywhere which is stressful.
We had a kettle and coffee maker which was nice but no fridge which we thhought was odd.
Apart from a rail there was nowhere to hang your clothes. Very little surface space to spread out your belongings, felt cramped and where your there for more then a couple days it does start to get annoying.
There is no lift to the top floor so your carrying your suitaces, but maybe its lile thay everywhere in amsterdam
The plus was that they provided really nice toiletries. They provided water, popcorn and chocolate free of charge. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We used the iron throughout our stay.

Great stay in a brilliant location

Overall an excellent stay, notable particularly for the hotel's fantastic location (direct metro/tram from Centraal station, ten minutes walk to the Rijksmuseum) and wonderful service from a thoughtful, cheerful team for whom nothing seemed too much trouble. Although the rooms and public areas show some signs of age, the hotel is immaculately clean and well-maintained. Hotels.com had incorrectly stated the city tax, the price on my booking confirmation was in fact for one night but my stay was for two nights, so city tax – a huge 12.5%! – was double what I had been given to expect. Only minor criticisms.would be that the hotel still uses quite cumbersome physical keys which need to be handed into and collected from reception each time one left and returned, and that weirdly there are no cups or mugs anywhere in the hotel so I couldn't make a cup of tea or a coffee larger than an espresso in my room,. despite their being the equipment to do so! Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Friendly welcome from receptionist on arrival and offered a glass of fizz. We were given our key to our room and then told it was in the annexe of the hotel. We were on the 1st floor (Ground, First, Second floors in annexe). The stairs were incredibly steep and quite narrow, glad we weren't on the 2nd floor as don't think we could have made it.

The room itself was clean with a fan and kettle available for our use.

There was a hanging rail for clothes that wasn't deep enough to hold the hangers provided which wasn't ideal.

The room, a standard room, was incredibly small, smaller than any room we have ever stayed in. We both had to crawl into bed as there was no room to the side of the bed. One small chair in the room to sit on. I would call this a small (very compact) double room.

The shower room was also very narrow, but the shower itself was good. No body wash in the bottles, but shampoo was in the pump bottle. Towels provided were small bath towels.

Overall it was just about ok for our 3 nights, but wouldn't stay in same room again.

We were booked in for breakfast, but after day one, we decided to go out for breakfast as the service was very poor and the offering just ok.

Hotel was handy for the tram to get into the centre and the receptionists were helpful.

It was a very convenient location. However, that is the only real selling point. The room was small, dingy and stuffy. The bathroom had limited circulation so smelt poor. Also, and whilst not the hotels problem per se, the people upstairs were incredibly loud in the early hours (e.g. 2pm) of the morning - thumping around and what sounded like moving furniture. I complained to the front desk who did not appear to be willing to act upon the issue. I would not stay again unfortunately.

Terrible stay. Tram in front of hotel shakes the whole room every 30 seconds making sleep at night very difficult. They say there is a lift to every room, but it is not true, there are many stairs and no one offers assistance. The hospitality is poor and staff is rude. air conditioner and safe didn't work. I paid 500 euros a night for a loft that should have cost 100. Terrible treatment by staff. There are better options, stay away from this place.

When we arrived we got to store our luggage which was really helpful as we arrived at 11:00am and check in wasn’t until 3pm. However 3pm came and the room wasn’t ready, in fact every guest in the lobby more than 5 groups were waiting to check in and we were all told the rooms were waiting inspection. 15 minutes later we checked in, you’d expect the room to be spotless considering it’s just been inspected however it wasn’t the cleanest - clean enough but you’d expect better for the money you pay. Day 2 came and you kind of expect housekeeping everyday especially when the room service tag only has the options of ‘don’t clean my room’ and ‘not yet to clean my room’ so we didn’t leave one out - we came back and the bed hadn’t been changed / made and we had left the towels on the wet floor (bathroom was a wet room) expecting them to be changed as per the instructions in the bathroom / new towels however nobody had been to service the room so we had to go down and ask. Again day 3 the room was cleaned and bed made / clean towels however no top up of toilet rolls or milk & sugar. We also started to smell a drainage smell in the bathroom on this day we was checking out early the following day so kept the bathroom door closed. Overall it was OK, great location the staff were quick to help when we did complain however for the price you expect much better, the overall cleanliness of the building is outstanding. Wouldn’t really want to stay again.

THE DESK STAFF WERE GOOD AND HELPFUL BUT WE FOUND DURING THE 3 NIGHT STAY THE ROOM WAS NOT GETTING CLEANED UNTIL WE HAD TO COMPLAIN TO THE DESK STAFF AT 4:00PM WHEN WE RETURNED TO THE HOTEL EACH AFTERNOON, THEN HAD TO WAIT SOME TIME BEFORE THE ROOM WAS CLEANED SO WE COULD ENTER.
THE ROOM WE HAD WAS NEXT TO THE ENTRANCE/EXIT DOOR OF THE HOTEL BLOCK AND DOOR SLAMMING WAS DISTURBING LATE AT NIGHT AND VERY EARLY MORNING.

Dirty and outdated rooms

I’ve never stayed in such an outdated and unclean room before. The floors were dirty, everything was covered in dust, and the bathroom had an unpleasant odor. While the bed had clean sheets and was comfortable, the rest of the room felt neglected and in desperate need of an update. The sink in the bathroom was cracked, the toilet was stained, and there was barely any lighting in the room—it was so dim that we practically needed a flashlight at night just to navigate. To make matters worse, our window directly faced a neighboring room, offering little to no privacy. On a positive note, the staff was friendly during check-in and check-out, but unfortunately, the condition of the room overshadowed that experience. An upgrade is definitely needed. The lounge was better than the rooms itself. Plus the windows in the room do not close fully and cannot be locked 😃

This was a nice hotel and reasonable for the price compared to other hotels in the area. A few things which would've made my stay amazing:

1) Rug in the rooms as the slab floor gets pretty cold, even with the heater on
2) Full sized bed instead of two twin beds pushed side by side
3) Easier access to water, i.e. self service refilling station so I don't have to ask reception for more bottles

Ok but unsure if it's worth the cost?

Business day - hotel is very expensive for what you get. Small cold rooms and breakfast ok but too expensive for what it was.
Could do with some paint in places.
Lovely staff though.

Overall a great stay, great location

The hotel was very nice, service was great at reception.
My issue is with housekeeping; on the second day (of 6), the towels were not replaced, although the used towels were taken.
I asked at the front desk, and the gentleman said he would bring them right up...never happened.
Also, there was a coffee pod machine, where housekeeping did not replace.
the other complaint with housekeeping, the glassware used for coffee was never changed, so I had to rinse/clean myself.

Room was not of same standard as advertised, and considerably smaller. Heated only by one small radiator and s very cold, even when on full in November. Breakfast poor with only cereal as no kitchen. Good location, but overall poor compared to the listing

This property is located in a great area, as there is a tram stop right in front of the hotel.

However, there is no elevator in this hotel, and the stairs are quite steep if your room is on the second or third floor. My room was on the third floor and I needed staff assistance for my luggage without an elevator. Also, my room on the third floor had structural beams (I’m assuming from the roof) around the room that took up space and were rather inconveniently located around the room.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you plan on spending more time roaming around Amsterdam than in your hotel room.

So cheap to give two cartons water for free to costumers that stay other days or longer!! Only give two for first day for free !! then charged for more money for next day with out telling the quest !! I been traveling around the world and the water mostly is coming with hospitality!!

New management is terrible, I was showering and they said I had set fire alarms, would not let me get dress and forcefully entered room with me completely naked. I asked if I could get dressed and the staff just pushed door open and exposed me to everyone outside the door. The showers have no exhaust fans so steam sets off fire alarms constantly. No apologies, just rudely said open you window and left me traumatized. My stay last year was ok this year was truly terrible in so many ways. Will not ever return

Good place to stay but can be a little frustrating

Friendly staff, the room was nice, spacious, and airy, which is rare for major European cities, pluse the location is excellent. However, whoever designed those rooms is clueless:
- Despite the nice size of the bathroom, they installed only one minimalist shelf which made it difficult to put anything besides a toothbrush. Yeah, many of us shave and use combs etc.
- The large horizontal mirror might look cool, but shaving is a challenge for anyone over 6'.
- I need an electrical outlet near the desk. You'd think this would be common sense.
- TV didn't work and nothing was done about it for 2 days. Call me oldfashioned, but I like to check out local programs when I travel even if I don't understand the language.
- The chair in the corner of room 313 is the least comfortable, stupidest design ever. Get rid of it.

Querky rooms, friendly staff, good location for tram.
Room facilities could be better, no kettle etc but you can buy coffee from Lobby.
Snack options and food are limited but the continental breakfast was great
