The professional staff was very welcoming & accommodating, especially when one person in our group fell ill. They delivered breakfast to her every morning.

And speaking of breakfast, their morning buffet was the highlight, offering traditional Western & Asian fare that was so delicious !!

My wife and I were extremely happy with this very pretty hotel. It’s small, but laid out in a very economical way. The Thai motif was fantastic. Love the beach and the food was great.

Nothing I had read in negative reviews about this property was true. Said it was noisy, we did not find it so. The beach was great for relaxing and was beautiful. The staff were also fantastic. Friendly and helpful. We will stay here again in Koh Samui for sure.

The staff were wonderful resulting in great service in every aspect. The beach was pretty much non existent at high tide which obviously the hotel has not control over. The bathrooms were a little tired and the pool was not as large as the pictures suggested. With that said we enjoyed our stay very much.

Yes, almost everything was good. Internet was interrupted ever evening. I have to ask staff to fix it. Also some guests washed their dirty sandy shoes in a swimming pool as well as t shirts. It seems hotel staff doesn't care

Few issues with AC, shower plumbing and wifi, musty smell in the room, old mattress. Really nice breakfast buffet and in-room service. Good access to the beach, although you cannot stay very late as the space is used each evening as a beachside restaurant. Courteous and helpful staff.

Excellent staff but the facilities at the hotel are very poor.
Rooms are dated and tired.
Beach non exsistent - the hotel decided to carry out pool maintenence for 2 days. Guests therefore had no beach due to high tide or pool. Poor timing. This is unacceptable and pool maintanence should have been better managed by the hotel.

We were assured of a vegan menu prior to booking - that too non exsistent. Guess they promise you the world during booking!! Please stay away if you work hard for your money and have expectations from your holiday.

Dara Samui is a wonderful small resort with amazing staff. The rooms are super spacious and wonderfully decorated with a thai and modern mix. The downside is that the beach in front of the hotel totally disappears during high water days making it impossible to hang on the beach. This is not the case for the entire beach so you will have to go via the road in front of the hotel to another part of the beach.

Honestly nothing negative to say about the hotel itself, but rather about Chaweng being a very busy place with lots of drunk British people..

Our stay was excellent! The staff were absolutely amazing, so kind and helpful. The hotel was also perfect, we had welcome drinks on our first night, the dinners on the beach were lovely (slightly expensive, but you expect that), you can borrow things like paddle boards for free from the hotel. Breakfast was also very good with a wide selection of food and an egg bar which made pretty much anything you wanted with eggs. Location was also perfect, at the edge of Chaweng, just a small walk on the beach to all the beach clubs and bars. Would recommend and shall definitely come back.

Pros: Amazing staff - polite and professional. Fantastic restaurant and bar snacks. In a great area in terms of shops and restaurants.
Cons: The beach at the rear of the property is not great for swimming - shallow and slimy sand. Very noisy at nightime from the local nightclubs. Room was in need of renovating. Garden view is actually a view over an abandoned area with rubbish. This is one of the hotels in Koh Samui with an old sewage system so you can't put toilet paper in the toilet. Room was a bit stinky. Our room was always one of the last to be cleaned so we had to wait every day for it to be cleaned once we'd finished on the beach.

We loved how beautiful this hotel was, full of character whilst also super clean, comfortable bed, brilliant location (right on the beach). The breakfast was great, they put on an amazing spread every day. Super friendly staff. We had a power cut on our last night and they made sure we had a bright lamp in our room until it came back on. Couldn’t recommend more! The hotel was right off the street but the rooms are so quiet. It was perfect.

It is not an adults only hotel and that was the first disappointment because we booked it precisely for that reason, they should not offer it like that because I saw children every day of my stay. The hotel is very well maintained and the rooms are large and spacious, very nice and clean, the breakfast is very good, the beach is not the best, the water hits your knees if you are lucky, there are better beaches with paid sun loungers, you should wear earplugs because the noise from the clubs is very loud, I did not like that before 5 pm they start collecting all the sun loungers and if you are in the pool they sweep your face to make you leave and the employees change their attitude so you leave because they should be doing their job of setting tables for dinner making guests who are not having dinner and want to enjoy the sunset on the beach and the pool that closes at 7 pm feel like second-class guests. It should be somewhat equitable, half the tables are for dinner and the other half are for those who have just arrived and beach lovers.

The room was so big and nicely decorated with your own balcony. Far from the water. The beach area is quite small and not really swimmable as it is very shallow. You can walk down for bigger beach. It was very loud at night until 4 am but not hotels fault it is the area in which it is located. The food was very good for reasonable prices. Make sure to pay as you go as we had some issues with our drink bills. Not very accessible as there are many stairs and ramps to the restaurant and beach. Breakfast buffet was very good.

First things first: All the staff at this property have been super-friendly and responsive. I saw other reviews that complained about the staff. Not sure why. Maybe older.

Why am I giving this a 1-Star review? Because the hotel simply isn't what's advertised. This is by no means a \"4-Star Resort\".

It's maybe a 3-star hotel, and an old one at that. If you are a backpack tourist, and you get this for $40: OK! But I paid more than I paid for 5-star resorts in places like Phuket or Bangkok.

The beach is horrible. You are not at the open sea, but in a shallow lagoon. You could wade 200m out, climb over a damn, and get to the sea. Yay!

One towel a day max? Not enough beach chairs? That's 4-star?

Breakfast is good, but the regular restaurant is bad. Cold and flavorless food is hard to do with Thai food, but they do it.

Oh, and it is loud, because you are right next to the airport.

Worst part: It is all old and run down. The place needs to be renovated badly. To give you an idea: I slept in my clothes, because the room was so run down. Everything smells bad. No AC in the bath. Internet doesn't work.

When I told the staff I was cutting my losses and was moving, they told me I couldn't change the reservation. Look: I am not getting what I paid for, so I am leaving. In the end, Expedia reimbursed me, because it was so horrible. They should delist this place as 4-star.

Chaweng is also awful, unless you are into smoking cannabis and getting drunk as cheap as possible.

Only thing preventing me from a full 5 stars is the beach was not as nice as Chaweng beach further south. The water was too shallow, as well as rock and weedy in some places. But if you don’t care too much about swimming in the ocean this hotel is awesome.

It’s funny when you are in Samui you don’t want to spent too much time in your room, so why bother with a nice hotel?

You will be happy you decided to stay here, the room is spacious with a massive bathroom (equal size to the bedroom) with a deep bath and large bench space for toiletries and makeup.

Then you venture to the back of the hotel for a relaxed breakfast with a menu that varies daily overlooking the spectacular pool and ocean front. Enhancing the tranquil environment the pool is surrounded by waterfall, frangepani trees and day beds for relaxing and of course the bar.

We were very pleased with our stay at Dara Samui. It is clean, the breakfast is incredible and ample, and the staff is second to none. Chaweng Beach (the street area) wasn’t my taste, but there are a lot of restaurants and bars. It’s great, it’s just not my speed. That said, when you get to the beach at Dara Samui, you can’t hear the noise of the street at all. What made the experience so fantastic was the staff. High praise to them!!

The hotel itself is absolutely fine. The room was clean, the bathroom was large and clean with all the standard amenities. Two complimentary water bottles per day and a mini fridge (with fee for items). The included breakfast buffet is large with good variety. Every staff I encountered was helpful and friendly. Really wonderful people.

However, there isn't really a beach there. Technically speaking, it is waterfront, with a small strip of sand when the tide is low. I wouldn't call that a beach, there are actual beaches on the island. Also, the area on the street surrounding the hotel is peak Chewang, loud, noisy, dirty sidewalks and rude shirtless tourists walking around. If you want to be in the middle of bars, restaurants and massage parlors, then this location would be excellent. If you want beach, peace and tranquility, then this place isn't for you.

Only downside for me was that the pool beach bar area was a bit too congested, too crowded - the tide was often unusually high during my stay so they could not have sunbeds on the beach as I think they usually would, so this restricted the space available.
I would like to think I’ll be able to stay again.

What I liked about the Dara was the location and location. Enjoyed seeing all these different things. The staff included all the services were very excellent!

Hotellet ligger precis vid stranden och är på det stora hela i väldigt gott skick. Incheckningen gick smidigt med ett mycket varmt och professionellt mottagande. Rummen är supermysiga och rymliga i teakfärgat trä. Frukosten är mycket bra med ett stort och fräscht urval. Poolområdet är mysigt och ligger precis vid stranden.
Till följd av en kortare renovering vid pooldäcket vilken skulle omfatta halva delen av vår vistelse, så skiftade vi hotell med hjälp av hotellets mycket vänliga och hjälpsamma personal.
Detta hotell kan sannerligen väl rekommenderas.

Stay here!!! This is an amazing property. My husband and I did not want to leave! The villa is worth the extra cost!
Fantastic dining options- don’t forget to book at Dara Serene beach dinner. The staff is amazing! Mook and Rit were amazing poolside and dining servers and were so friendly. Zay assisted with a seemless check in experience. We were treated like we were the only guests on property.
Great breakfast buffet with a made to order section.
They have a great beach area that has a break so it is calmer than the rough waves further down the beach. Walking distance from beach clubs and water activities but this resort offers so much you really do not have to leave.
If we go back to Koh Samui, we will not consider staying anywhere else.

This hotel is on a nice part of the beach and walkable to many restaurants, shopping and nightlife.

My only complaint is poor water, pressure in the shower (I have long thick hair), and the water temperature fluctuating from hot to cold. Not sure there’s a whole lot the resort can do about this, we did make a complaint about the water pressure which got slightly better, but no changes in the fluctuating water temperatures from hot to cold.

The staff were kind, and attentive.

Make sure to get a coconut shake! I think our family had them every day. The other fruit shakes were also delicious, but the coconut one is special served right in the coconut!

Dinner on the beach the way they set up. The tables is truly a unique experience.

The seafood is excellent, as others have also said.

Hotel made it easy to arrange pick up and drop off at the airport.

I e been tying many different resorts in similar price range with similar ratings and this was pretty high up on all areas - except for two items. Parking is almost impossible- the local taxi service parks multiple cars right in front and even cones off available spots to save for other drivers. You have to argue and wrestle with them - sometimes they back fown and others not - the hotel can’t do anything because they pay the police so they won’t make them move! It’s prime party spot for Chaweng - so good luck.
2nd is that there’s the biggest club not too far away and if snd when the wind is blowing from the wrong direction- you hear and feel the noise and beat until 5am. Many guests complained - but nothing the resort can do- 2 nights no problem. 2 night- ear plugs didn’t even help.
Breakfast was one of the better ones in the area. Very convenient location for dinner, activities
If you don’t have a car and are a heavy sleeper- this is great place!

Great location. Lovely old Thai Style accommodation. Shame as a 5 star hotel they charge for a bucket of ice and they need to do something about the seating at pool and beach area. Not suffer by a long shot. We couldn’t get a seat anyway we were there.

This place seems to have mixed reviews, but after learning about the covid policy on the island, and hotels on the island being completely shut down for years, they have alot of catch up to do to get back to pre covid states. This includes maintenance, updates etc.
Our stay was great, nice spacious rooms, very polite staff, always willing to accommodate requests.
Only complaint was the bed and pillows.

Fabulous time in Koh Samui- Dara Samui

Great stay with the Dara Samui team. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, poolside and breakfast staff made a point to know us and worked hard to make our stay very memorable. Excellent team. Location is excellent and accessible to any activities that would interest you. Supper on the beach is a very romantic setting as the waves wash up right next to you and food was excellent.

The pictures looked good on Expedia but when we arrived the condition of the property was horrible. The beach was dirty, sand bags by the pool, no iron , stuff were unhelpful. We actually spend one night instead of two, checked out early and left to another resort: I would not recommend to stay here!

Needed extra towels!

We requested extra pillows and towels, as it is extraordinarily hot and humid on this island. They would only give us a couple extra towels. Other than this issue that we had every day of our stay, everyone else was very nice and accommodating.

Cockroach infested room, staff sprayed insecticide and insisted we stayed because \"the insecticide is safe\", and refused to move us to a new room. Horrible attitude and service.

We took a picture of the cockroach as it was crawling and called the hotel IMMEDIATELY. One guy came in, looked around, searched on the floor and was shocked by something he saw underneath the TV cabinet.

He leaves and returns within 5 minutes and starts to spray INSECTICIDE in our ENTIRE room. He tells us everything is ok and expects us to sleep there. A front desk lady comes in and translates that the insecticide is safe and not to worry.

The cockroach was not even the problem because we understand we are staying in a tropical island where cockroaches are normal. The problem is when you spray a room of \"SAFE\" insecticide and tell us to stay.

We obviously refuse to sleep there for the night.

1.) Front desk lady tells us to GO TO THE BEACH at 10PM and walk around a bit and come back.

We refuse.

2.) Front desk lady tells us to sleep in the room because other rooms are fully.

We refuse. A quick google on a few websites tell us some rooms, yes more expensive rooms, are available.

After 1-2 hours of arguing and going back and forth we were moved to a room with an extremely dirty bathroom, broken TV, and broken refrigerator.

Next day, we got \"upgraded\" to a new room. Thats great, thanks, but the entire attitude of the staff and carelessness for the well-being of customer is unbearable.

This hotel is right next to a construction site. The noise can be heard all day. Looks like they might be there for another six months. The hotel advertises non smoking rooms. You can not smoke in the rooms but if someone is on the balcony smoking you can smell it in your room. If you are a smoker this is the property for you. Our room was cleaned every day but the toilet still smelt bad every day. The breakfast staff did a great job on keeping our coffee cups full. The selection of fresh food and made to order eggs were great.
This hotel is in a great location to do shopping and finding a restaurant. Be warned the smell of sewage and garbage while walking along the Main Street can be overwhelming.
If you need to do laundry during your stay? The hotel prices are very expensive. There are many place along the Main Street who do a good job and very inexpensive.
I would not recommend this hotel. The price might be right but for a few extra dollars you can have even better time at a different hotel.
