Have stayed here numerous times in the past and have always enjoyed it. This time, no parking available, the pool was out of action, the restaurant and bar was closed until further notice. Not impressed. Will be our last time staying here.

The whole place is in need of maintenance and refurbishment. We booked specifically because there is a pool, only to be told on checking in, that the pool was out of action in mid summer! The description also said parking onsite is available, but we were told none was available and to park on the street!
Toilet seat in the bathroom was totally loose and slipping around - but again we were told that nothing could be done until after the weekend when we had left.
There is no restaurant or coffee shop in the Spencer any more and only take away meals available.

The positive points of this hotel are its low price, its ideal location close to the beach and several restaurants, and the cleanliness of the room and its amenities, including the kitchenette. The negative points are that the pool seems to be constantly closed, the rooms are only cleaned every three days, and the overall appearance is dated.

For the price compared to Other apartment suites it could’ve been better. I think it just needs an overall revamp everything still feels olden day. And that might be okay for some. I would note the lobby smelt, and the rooms were slightly musty however they were clean and it was okay. Maybe consider dropping the price.

To be honest i was disappointed. We stayed here as we needed an accessible room for my wife who had a broken ankle. One of the reasons we chose this place is the advertise breakfast available. It did not appear to be avail at all and while there used to be a restaurant, it was long closed. The hotel is very tired and in need of an upgrade. Our room decor was very much 1980's. The room was also very cold. The aircon would only blow cold air. There was only 2 switches and a thermostat so not hard to figure out how to operate. It just wouldn't blow warm air. To make it worse it was a very stormy night and you could feel the cold draft coming through the joinery. The staff interaction was very limited as we were restricted to our room. They did have a wheelchair which is a bonus. But it was old and falling to bits. The wheels were extremely loose and there were numerous broken spokes. I used it only because i had no choice.
In summary, the hotel is in a good location, but is tired, and an ok place to stay as the cleanliness is absolutely fine, i don't believe it is value for money.

Good location close to the centre of Takapuna, and a short walk to the beach. Our room was pleasant, with views over the lake and ocean, but there were some unwanted curry smells around. The shower went crazy and soaked everything in the bathroom. Public areas need some major upgrades - wooden floors in the foyer were in poor repair and there was a lot of old wooden furniture in the bar that made it feel 1970;s - disappointing that the bar closed at 10pm on a Friday night. Wifi was terrible.

Most annoying was the private apartment had next door had an old can rolling around the balcony very noisily in the wind (it had been used as an alternative to a pipe) I was with my children and not thrilled about the neighbours getting high next door. They offered to move us which was great.
The pool area is also very tired with a lot of broken furniture, there is no restaurant. The rooms weren’t super clean with mould and hair in the bathroom. The reviews on this place were far too generous, if you’re looking at this price point I’d definitely recommend another place (almost any other place would be better)

I had an amazing view of Takapuna Beach from the 16th floor room with balcony. The room was a bit dated with cleaning service offered only every 3rd day. The front desk staff stay in the back office and are not visible. You need to stand at the couter for a while before the attendant notices that you are there and comes out. The front desk staff seems to change quite often as do the duty managers, several times a day, so communication and continuity across staff members can be bad. We tried the hotel restaurant pizza and it was very average. The view from my room and everything outside of the hotel was amazing. Many delicious restaurants, cafes and shopping are steps away and most importantly Takapuna Beach is spectacular. The beach is a short walk. I am glad I stayed in this beach area and not in the city central area in Auckland. We reserved an uber to puck us up in early mornings and out to the city center for out day trips. I loved Takapuna Beach.

Unfortunately this wasn’t a “hotel” experience at all. We made the most of our stay but it was a bit disappointing when it came to staff service. We tried ringing reception on multiple occasions throughout our three days there and the phone was never answered. Our rooms weren’t serviced even though the booking site says serviced once per stay. We booked two rooms so our family could all stay together but they put us 8 floors apart from each other. There was no ice. Terrible smell in the bathroom too and wasn’t aware there were residents amongst our rooms so strong cooking smells coming through the air conditioning was awful. We tried discussing this when checking out but we felt ignored. Great location and a nice pool but that would be all we would recommend about it unfortunately.

The whole floor smelt like over cooked cabage it was disgusting. There was no access to tooth brushes (surely there should be some spares at reception avail on request or to purchase) and the room while clean was in need of a decent upgrade.

We didn’t end up staying we checked out due firstly to the odour that emanated through the hotel from permanent residence living in the hotel. The room itself was unkempt bathroom was grott, toilet seat coming off and cupboards falling apart. dirty floor.
