The room is basic but very clean & tidy property.
Very friendly & helpful staff. We stayed 2 nights.

It’s in a neighborhood with lots of bars and restaurants & was very noisy, tough to sleep with drunk people right outside the window all night long (mid week! ) No complaints other than the noisy neighborhood.

There was a staff at the front desk who worked overnight that apparently refused to open the door for me. I was gonna go out very early in the morning and it was raining and I forgot my jacket. I went back upstairs to the hostel to get a jacket from my room and I kept on knocking the door and ringing the doorbell but for some reasons, he did not open it for me.

Convenient, clean, perfectly located and great staff. Big issue: it is almost impossible to have a good night sleep due to noise from other rooms, people in the street and music from a nearby bar. Can recommend only if you are a pro heavy sleeper.

24-hour reception. Safe to stay. Friendly and welcoming staff. Room is clean. Location is perfect.
But the issue is that the room is not soundproof. Locating right above the bars and restaurants implies it's super noisy esp at night, which the noise goes till 5am. Another issue is that seems the building's pipe would create noise when others are using water, as I often heard the pipe's noise at midnight.

The staff wss so friendly and helpful. There was an assortment of restaurants to chose from and you could walk to so many attractions from the hostel. You are in the very center of everything. The only complaint I had was that the delightful little street turned into a consistent roar of talking and laughing that lasted throughout the night. It was hard to sleep without ear plugs.... You will find them on the nightstand.

It's a very centrally located hostal, the staff is very helpful, and the front desk is manned 24 hours a day. The main downside is the bar below because it can be a tad noisy until the wee hours of the morning. The internet was at times unreliable although they gave me access to another network.

Old, run-down, central location, but noisy

Check in people were not courteous, at least the older woman was not. Then later, when I walked out of my room into a smokey hall, I said I thought it was non-smoking here? She said yes and pointed to a no-fumar sign on the wall. I said I smelled smoke, she said she didn't and again pointed to the wall. Like, \"since there's a sign here, there's just no way there could be a smell of smoke.\" Turns out, she was a smoker, so of course she couldn't smell it. Sigh. The place is old and run-down. No security, the hotel says there's a safe in the room, but it doesn't say it's a safe you have to pay a euro each time you use it. PLUS, it's mounted to a thin wood shelf that is tacked-on with finishing nails that have all come loose, so when you pull open the safe door, the whole shelf slides out. Someone can just grab the shelf or safe and walk off with it all. Silly. And deceptive to advertise an in-room safe as if it's an amenity, then turn around and charge you for it. And it's not \"safe\" as a safe anyway since anyone can just carry the whole safe off with the flimsy shelf it's mounted to. Bed was firm and I liked that. Place is old and noisy, sound from TV's in other rooms, people talking, etc. Not a place I'd ever stay again. I'd opt for a tent in the woods...

If you’re looking for a budget hotel to stay on your own, it’s Hostal Esmeralda. Buzzed entry. Clean hotel, building is old but it has its charm. It has a small bathtub and if you have a city view be prepared to hear music from surrounding bars and clubs.

This place was an absolute dump. There are so many better places for a couple of bucks more. You are not allowed to take your key when you leave. You have to leave it at the front desk. The workers don't speak a word of English. You have to be buzzed up every time you enter. The air conditioning units smelled like old mildew. I will give them credit that it was near the city center. The rooms are the size of a small box. You have to pay 1 euro to use the safe (what is that about?). the key didn't even work. Mind you, this all happened to us in the first 15 minutes of checking in. My wife and I immediately left and found a much better hotel Stay at the the Vincii 66 Grand Via. It was a few bucks more night but it was truly a 4 star hotel. What an absolute disgrace this hostal esmeralda is. Anyone who raves about this place must live like animals at home. We never say at hostels by the way. A friend recommended it so we booked it on location. The place was a filthhole and the walls looked like they were eroding.

I only stayed one night and it was ok, the location is very good if you want to have a base to explore the city center.
I recommend this hotel for people who would like to experience Madrid's night life as well, otherwise it's pretty impossible to sleep (at least during the weekend) due to the background noise of the people who are partying everywhere on that street.

Pictures can be so deceiving. I was terribly disappointed with receptionists rude to my daughter, apparently you better know to say.....\"room 205\"...when you ring to be allowed back in. Oh yeah you have to leave your key each time you leave.
the hot water was turned off and there were shouting in the hall from the guests and the male receptionist.
I do believe in the saying....you get what you pay for........

This hitel is wonderfully located. The ensuite rooms are clean and very well maintained. Staff members are always helpful. Being English in a Spanish speaking famiky hotel did mean we were unable to enjoy the relaxed conversation that is sometimes helpful to a traveller - where to go, what is recommended etc. Our room was relatively small by our standards - little space around the bed - which was very comfy. The bathroom worked! Hot water, flushing toilets - no hassles. Being so close to the Plaza del Sol meant a lot of noise til about 6am. The double glazing helps - kept the windows closed. Two lovely balconies but too noisy to open the windows. Our lack of Spanish meant we were unable to request a quiet room. Overall well located to everything - but ask for a quiet room!

Excellent location to explore Madrid by foot. You can reach most of the attractions from that place just walking for 10 - 30 minutes. It is good value for the money. It is not a quiet street at night if the quietness is your priority.

One block from Puerta del Sol

Location was great, close to many bars, restaurants & shopping, room was overpriced for quality of facilities... tiny room, no room to turn around in bathroom etc. We stayed in a similar but much nicer Hostal nearby on C. Fuencarral for 15% less the previous week. My advice is to look elsewhere.

When I was searching for hotels, I wanted a hotel that was cheap and in central Madrid. With this hotel, I got that. It was a great price and literally at \"kilometer 0\" right in the center of Madrid. What I didn't expect was that the hostal would be rather uncomfortable - small, which I expected - but the towels were bricks. Literally - it was painful to dry my body off and impossible to use as a face towel. Also, beware that you will be required to leave your room key at the front desk when you're not in the room - and it's possible that even though the reception desk is technically open 24/7, its likely nobody will be there. And if they are there, they probably won't be able to speak any English. My husband and I had to even search for a map before going out to the city. On the flipside, if you want to be near clubs and bars, this is it. You could hear street noise most of the night - until about 6am or so. That wasn't so bad, but you could also smell the cigarette smoke coming through the windows - being pregnant, that annoyed me a bit. The city tour bus also drops very very close, which was really convenient and there were plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from very close by. I'd recommend this hostal only if you understand what you're getting yourself into and are prepared with your own towels and pillows (they only provide one for an entire double bed!)

I was surprised to get basically a hotel room for the price of a bed in a hostel dorm: all the basic comforts of a hotel are included, and the personnel is very kind and helpful. The only difference with a hotel is that the reception is at the second floor. A no frills nor flashy place right in the center. Strongly advice.

Great location in Puerta del Sol - easy to walk to most of the city's attractions. The room and bathroom were small but modernized and clean. The policy of having to leave your key behind and then buzz in to get access to the building was inconvenient at times, but never a problem. Overall it was great for our purpose.

The hotel was convenient to just about everything, with restaurants on every corner, as well as bars and pastry shops. The only real problem was the noise. This can partly be due to the surrounding establishments, not so much the hotel itself. However, it wasn't sound proofed, which didn't help. All in all, a decent place to stay, but don't expect much sleep.

O Hostal Esmeralda oferece um ambiente aconchegante com cama confortável e lençóis agradáveis. Destacamos a limpeza impecável do quarto e do banheiro. A localização é um ponto forte: super central e perto de tudo! O quarto é confortável (embora um pouco pequeno) e bem equipado, com ar-condicionado e aquecedor. O banheiro também é pequeno, mas funcional. O único ponto que notamos é a oportunidade de melhorar a proatividade da recepção em termos de boas-vindas e auxílio, como visto em outros hotéis. No geral, uma estadia muito positiva.

É um tipo de hospedagem bastante comum em Madri (Hostal). O custo x benefício é muito bom. A instalação fica localizada bem no centro de Madri, perto de tudo: locais históricos, parques, metrôs, lojas, teatros, mercados... enfim, tudo o que um viajante precisa. O quarto é simples, mas a cama é confortável e o banho é bom. Gostei muito e recomendo para quem quer uma hospedagem turistica sem gastar muito.

Localização extremamente central, não tem como ser melhor, mas se você busca uma região silenciosa, não é uma boa opção. Atendimento impecável do início ao fim. Recepção 24h. Pude acessar o quarto bem antes do horário do check-in - isso foi incrível! Limpeza impecável em todos os ambientes. Pude guardar as bagagens após o check-out. Quarto pequeno, mas ok para um viajante solo. Instalações do quarto ok, com mesa, cadeira, cofre e um pequeno guarda-roupa. Cama confortável e roupa de cama/banho satisfatória. Como recomendação, sugiro colocarem tapete antiderrapante no local do banho (quase sofri uma queda perigosa) e um cesto de lixo no quarto. Em geral, pelo preço, vale a pena!

La ubicación es insuperable. A una cuadra del metro Puerta del Sol. El personal es amable. La habitación privada muy limpia. El baño un poco pequeño, pero no tan pequeño si comparamos con otros baños de Europa. La cama muy cómoda. Se escuchaba gente en los bares de abajo en lunes, pero nada que no permitiera dormir. Hotel econômico simples na Porta do Sol

Hotel econômico no 2o andar do prédio do restaurante Museu del Jamon.
Pontos positivos: ao lado da Porta do Sol e de estação de metrô e da Renfe Cercanias permitindo fácil deslocamento para as muitas atrações na região central (museus, restaurantes, Gran Via, mercados, Palácio Real, Parque del Retiro) que pode ser a pé. Ar condicionado e ducha com bom funcionamento. Blackout da persiana funcionou razoavelmente.
Pontos negativos: hotel bem simples, instalações antigas, quarto pequeno (pode ser ruim se tiver muita bagagem), zona extremamente movimentada a noite (janelas anti-ruído isolam razoavelmente o barulho externo mas tenho sono pesado), banheiro muito pequeno e com algumas peças soltas (suporte do banheiro), acesso a recepção por elevador (a entrada é por uma porta ao lado do restaurante que dá acesso também a outro hostal e hostel), wifi oscilante
Se o preço estiver bom, vale a pena ficar se sua intenção é aproveitar a região e ter um local de fácil acesso. Se sua intenção é mais conforto ou instalações mais novas, melhor buscar outra opção.

Struttura situata in centro , a pochi passi dalla fermata metro di Sol. La zona è molto movimentata , a qualsiasi ora del giorno e della notte, ma l insonorizzazione nel complesso è discreta. Le camere sono molto datate, il bagno molto piccolo e necessiterebbe di un restiling. L accoglienza ottima , personale cordiale. Nel complesso però la struttura non vale il prezzo pagato per il pernottamento ( poco piu di 100 euro a notte)

번화가에 위치한 걸 감안하더라도 방음시설이 너무 좋지 않다. 객실 간 방음은 물론이고, 무엇보다 밖에서 들려오는 소음은 참기 어려웠다. 밤새 술 마시고 떠드는 사람들 때문에 한숨도 못잤다.

Todo ha sido positivo. Muy céntrico, limpio, sencillo pero sufiviente, amabilidad de propietarias, cómoda cama, localizado próximo a multitud de bares y tiendas, en pleno centro, me ha gustado mucho.
No puedes ir buscando lujos, es un establecimiento sencillo, si esto lo llevas claro al hacer la reserva, todo te irá bien.

Prestation inférieure à ce qui est décrit lors de la réservation en ligne : taille de la chambre, linge, vieillot...
Isolation largement insuffisante : bruits continuels 3 nuits consécutives liés à la proximité des bars et établissements nocturnes. Impossible de fermer l’oeil sans boules Quiès !

もう一度泊まりたい！

プエルタデルソルの駅から近く、ショッピング・食事・観光のどれをやるにも便利な場所でした。
部屋は値段相応で寝るには問題なく、フロントの方の対応もとてもよかったです。
Wi-Fiのパスワードはフロントに聞くと教えてくれます。
